I guess we have a leadership issue? No matter what we do we are out numbered 5 to 1. If the Paladin and cleric and turn some maybe be dust some and then retreat north toward the water. I can use the mist spell to give us time. Then maybe they will find some area where we can make a better defense.

I think all of you have great idea's. T.O. so far has a good plan. I can use ILLUSIONARY HOUNDS to distract OBSCURING MIST if we need to fall back. I would like to hold COLOR SPRAY because not sure it will work on them. If all else fails we could put the eye patches on and see if works.

Areldor listened as the Elyra started to sing out as she drew her swords and backed up to a nearby wall. Fear started to creep into his being as he watched a listened as ideas started to be formulated. “Tavern stories are a far cry from the real thing.” He said to himself then trying hard to remember anything about this type of monster. Areldor had seen fights, been in fights and have escaped fights in his life time, but they we all LIVING beings not the undead.

He started to finally settle himself like Garlin taught him. “Fear kills focus and you need that to cast and fight.” Areldor got his focus back, moved closer to Elyra. Then spoke to her; “You have an open invitation to sing at the Winged Ox. I think you would enjoy the place.” He said with a sly smile. “And be prepared “he spoke to whoever could hear him, “When they show I am calling some friends.”

I was hoping for an open spot for a stand. But it sounds like we have none. Thought maybe to use my mist spell to help with a retreat but if they are south, east and west retreat is impossible. Maybe we need to head to the water, even though I think it is worse than what we are going to face.

I know we are in a city but is the street littered with stuff or more open to setup some type of stand and fight defense.

Subject: Jim, I'm an illusionist not a cleric

Areldor got back into his position in line after it was decided to investigate the “happy water sound” The illusionist did not mind too much that nothing was found. If the water was drinkable, maybe it could help extend their search for items. Areldor was relaxed and enjoying the small bantering with Elyra and believing that there was really nothing here to fear. He noticed that Bard was still wearing the eye patch that was handed out, So to entertain her Areldor proceeded to take out the patch and strap it to his head. He centered the patch on his forehead then said to Elyra " You have one eye now I have three" and laughed at himself and continued with the group.

It was not long after that when Jaufre gave out the alarm behind Areldor. “Skelton Pirates” he called out. That snapped the illusionist from relaxed to alert with a tad of fear. The training from Uncle Garlin was almost as instinctive as breathing. Areldor grabbed his staff with both hands, started to quickly look around and think of what spell would do the most good.

Had to have some closure to the conversation with Elyra on the "Love Boat." Dead city I think, But I still have a high holy day coming and wonder what the goddess is going to think when I don't show. Could it be lions tigers and bears, OH MY. Oh I do like the team assignments boss!

Subject: well this is fun

As the team moved thru the city Areldor reminisced about the morning of the third day of the voyage. Where Elyra and himself had a pleasant conversation with a little music played by himself and the bard at the end. It was a wonderful thought, a diversion too as they went looking for something, anything that was of value or could explain what happened.

For almost an hour nothing was found. No people, animals only some birds and insects but that was about the only things living in the city beside them. Even all of the metal and anything of value that would at least be visible was stripped. "If you wanted stone here is the place to get it" he said out loud as the group tried decide what to do next. "But I don't think Mad Dog is interested in this type of stone. May be the other city on would be more profitable"

The illusionist slowly glance around the boat thinking of a good response to the bard's question. If I say yes then I am a child to her and maybe hinder any type relationship, but if I lie that would be far more destructive. he turned his gaze back to her lovely face and replied "Yes that was me. the cute kid. I was 10 at the time and just started to live with Uncle Garlin. That was 20 years ago I'm far from that child you saw in Haverden." then he proceeded to take his hair put it in a ponytail.

Areldor studied Elyra face. Her tone, her expression conveyed that she was being sincere. Areldor moved his gaze from the elf and looked out upon the water. Years working in the Winged Ox gave the half elf many hard lessons on judging the comments of others. From “I will be back to take care of the tab, to the Oh yes I like you a lot.” Areldor had heard many from the patrons and the like, some from his own community when he was going up. Many of the full blooded elves would say “He is a nice…boy or is he staying with you.” or something similar. Elyra comment made that connection to the past again and it was not pleasant. His body shutter, like a reflex to break the connection, then he stretched, reseated himself and looked back at the bard. “No offence taken, my friend, he said with a small smile “I am very grateful that the goddess led my father to meet my uncle so that I could live with him. Looking more human than elf allowed me to blend in, so I did not stand out in Waltersham.” Areldor smiled bigger and motioned his hands as he spoke. “Living with Uncle Garlin, I have learn many lessons that have gotten me here today, on this adventure and meeting you..again.” He glanced left, and then asked Elyra “So how long have you been out on your own?”

Areldor looked at the bard for a moment and thought about her comments as she leaned back, allowing her face soak up the sun which was in short supply. "Well it was Garlin's performance she saw and me when I 10!" he said to himself and continued. "She must be a least 70 years old!" then he remembered his own parents and there age and how they still looked very young by human standards. The idea started to depress Areldor due to the fact there is a big difference between him and Elyra which he had forgotten in all the time living at the Winged Ox. There were mostly humans in Waltershem with a smattering of other races, but mostly human. He knew he was half elf that was quite plain when visiting his family, now thinking of the difference between the two gave him a pause. Knowing there was a longer than usual pause Areldor thought quickly and said" So you thought the kid was cute."

Areldor perked up at her comment. “Yes,” he replyed quickly “it could have been me. If it has been within the last 10 years, I did not think I was good enough for shows outside the tavern until I was pushed by some of the patrons.” Then he paused. “Do you remember what the illusionist was wearing and what type of performance it was?” Areldor was thinking that she could have seen his uncle if it was 40 years ago. He knew he had only two tunics and the blue one is the one for entertaining. It has most of the hidden pockets that are needed with some of the non magical tricks. His uncle wore a red tunic when he performed. With that thought Areldor look up at the bard with a small smile.

"Hmm that would explain why I might have seen you but not in this attire. but I know I have hear your voice before it is very good some bards can carry a tune but not sing it" Areldor said with a smile as moved to a seated position and thought to himself "how old is this women?" followed by "I was 10 at the time she had been at my uncle's tavern; maybe I just didn't notice her." he noticed her now as the gesture made his heart skip a little, but pushed that aside with some effort to ask "20 years in the city, well then you must have also played at the small park in the east part of the city called Haverden. Where they celebrated the late fall harvest. This was the only outside work I would do besides doing the work at the tavern." He said with a little pride waiting to hear what she would say.

Areldor made sure he had stowed his equipment near the female bard so that they might . continue the conversation they started at the Toothless Dragon the night before. It wasn't until the third day that the bard restarted the conversation. “I don’t believe we had a chance to finish our conversation. Are you indeed from Waltershem? I seem to detect a bit of accent and you do look familiar.” The illusionist raised his left eye brow and thought to himself as he stared at the tarp listening to the rain, " They must not let the bard students out much. If she didn't know about the Winged Ox" then spoke "Yes my Uncle Garlin is part owner of the Winged Ox on the north of Waltershem. I would think you might have hear about the place, But then again there are many tavern in and around the city." Since he was laying on his back he rolled over and leaned on his arm to look at the her. "Maybe we crossed paths in the city somewhere? What places did you like to frequent?" he said looking into her emerald eye's.

"Areldor, Areldor Glanolwath nice to me you Amur." spoken with smile, from a young, clean face, gray eyed man. Areldor with staff in his left hand extended his right hand toward the short stature elf. Then he spoke "blessing and greeting my brother." in elven.

Amur looked at the hand and he frowned when Areldor spoke in elvish; instead of shaking his hand he reached up with a hand and adjusted his neck length red hair so that it covered the protruding point of his ears.

Areldor slowly drew back his hand with a look of dismay. This was not the first time he had received a cold reception from his race. Some from his home town treated him with cold indifference due to being more human than elf. “Maybe his opinion will change over time." the illusionist thought to himself. With that he looked at the rest of the seekers and wondered if the elves in the group would be the same.

Areldor took a quick glanced around at the other seeker that had arrived before him, some caught his eye, especially Elyra whom he had a nice but very short conversation last night in the tavern. After his quick look Areldor noticed that Mad Dog had made his present known and was going to make introduction so the illusionist was going to wait and hear who was in this makeshift group.

Something was puzzling him thought as he glanced at the ship and its crew, like the female bard they too were very familiar. Then as he boarded the ship and saw the eye patches it hit him like a lighting bolt, so much that his eyes got wide at the memories that came back to him. He then gained his composer as the Mad Dog introduced him to the crew and they recognized him.

The recognition made Areldor proud and embarrassed. It was great compliment that the men remembered his uncle’s tavern and the little show that he would do for the patrons. His talent was not highest quality , well at least to his thinking but it help him to be confident, practice his spells, some music and most important help his uncle.
The embarrass feeling was what is the group thinking. It is one thing make yourself known it is another thing if have it force on you uncontrolled. This was one of those times. After the crew’s response, Areldor gave a humble smile and a slight bow in acknowledgement.

After Mad Dog finished the introductions, handed out the eye patches (which Areldor placed in his side bag) he left the ship to return to his tavern. Then the voyage began.

Day Six
Dawn
On Monday
Marrero 13, 101awd (After Winter Dark)

We have arrived. I must remember to tell my uncle that the ginger worked very well. Received 10 gold coins and some of the crew with Dagger will stay a certain distance so that incase we need to retreat we might get out alive. The crew is very well trained and I believe they will not leave without us.

Areldor giving the instructions and gold proceeded with the group as the ventured toward the ruined city . The city was hit by some great force, no building was left intact. I was a strange site to the illusionist. There was a great sense of loss he felt for the inhabitants.

"Who lived there, what type of people were they and what happened to them." Were his thoughts as the others asked if we should go back to the ship to travel to the other side of the island or investigate the city at present? Areldor pulled his hair into a ponytail and checking his backpack and side bag then with turned and spoke " I agree with Elyra, since we are here why not take a look."
