Sirene's post

I took a little bit of liberty with the chronology of Tann's last post.

And, since RSA/Kandur was going to communicate the death of Sirene's father, so I thought I'd have him break the news to her before leaving.

I hope that's ok.

Ranger Spells....

Bri, check out Maggot's character sheet, he has some Ranger spells listed. Druids, Priests and Clerics have a "Prayer Book" of the spells they have learned, you have to have knowledge of the spell first. Then they pray for the ones they wish to use and if they are faithful then the diety grants the spell's use when they cast it.

So yes you can have a spell book, but you will need to find a way make it. You may wish to ask Cor, Valene or other clerics and Rangers to copy their spells. You may find some in the temple of Thor in town and copy those.

I found a good source once called "The Great Net Prayer Book" that I used for a Gnome Cleric I run in a table top game.

Rangers are much more limited to the number and type of spells, I think it is more like a Druid.

Send me an email or PM and we can investigate more and check to see what Tann is likely to allow for your character.

Do you have the 2.0 Players Guide for Rangers?

Ranger Spells

Rangers don't have spell books. They are entitled to any 'priest' spells that fall under the 'plant' and 'animal' sphere. So it's quite a limited list.

The 1st level Ranger spells Rayne can memorize are: Animal Friendship, Entangle, Invisibility to Animals, Locate Animals or Plants, Pass Without Trace, Shillelagh.

And the 2nd level spells she can memorize are: Barkskin, Charm Person or Mammal, Goodberry, Messenger, Snake Charm, Speak With Animals, Trip, Warp Wood.

There are other spells that Rayne could hypothetically learn, but they would have to be researched in advance by her and then approved by Tann (the question came up some time ago with clerical spells in Tome of Magic).

Ody

Divine spells are prayed for directly by clerical types, so there is no spell book as such (unless you're playing under some house rule).

Hmmm....

I wish my memory was as good as you kids. I'll have to go check now.

It may be a combo of book and house rules I remember. The spells needs to be "learned" somehow from training. Maybe the house part was to show the DM where and how the spell was aquire and what it would do. I know in my table top I couldn't just do any priest spells beyound the PHB list unless I provide time to be taught and listed in the book of prayers. My character need to find a temple an spend time being taught.

cleric spells

Cleric spells are granted by diety or his underlings and do not need to be "learned" before asking for them. However, it is possible for a god to grant a spell other than what was prayed for esp if a cleric has been very faithful and the diety (or DM) knows a certain spell will be needed.

Yeah

Ody that does make sense. Access to spells beyond the PHB do often need some sort of restriction being put on them by the DM, and that does often mean some sort of research, tutoring etc. in order to gain access to a non-PHB spell. Otherwise it can be difficult to keep up with the sheer number of spells out there.

Your all correct and I'm an Idiot

A Ranger can have a 'spell listing' to help he/she and the DM to know what spells the Ranger has access to along the sphere's mentioned above. However I read somewhere in one of the many supplements that Rangers also get access to the healing sphere, though for the life of me and the last hour I cannot find that reference so I could be wrong. Since I've allowed Trilogy Rangers to use those spells since game start, right or wrong, I'll just call it a house rule and leave it at that .

So Ranger spells would be as such..........

1st level Ranger spells.....
Animal Friendship, Cure Light Wounds, Entangle, Invisibility to Animals, Locate Animals or Plants, Pass Without Trace, Shillelagh.

2nd level Ranger spells.....
Barkskin, Charm Person or Mammal, Goodberry, Messenger, Slow Poison, Snake Charm, Speak With Animals, Trip, Warp Wood.

3rd Level Ranger Spells…..
Cure Moderate Wounds, Hold Animal, Plant Growth, Snare, Spike Growth, Summon Insects, Tree

Also I must apologize to both Kyle and Brianna for my inability to recognize the mistakes in their Ranger spells, but I see now that both have spells memorized that are not allowed.

Weaver/Maggot/ Vaiar Lok‘en Narns?? (Really need a post from you Kyle on your new name) has the spells Sanctuary, Aid, Flame Blade and Prayer.

While Rayne has Fearie Fire.

As for Tome spells if a Cleric finds a tome spell as already stated it will be treated as lost lore and the priest can once he reads the scroll be able to ask for said spell. If the spell falls within the 3 categories for Rangers then the reader of the scroll can share the spell with the Rangers and his/her fellow cleric's also.

Another Head's Up

Ok I have a new person possibly interested in joining Trilogy to replace Red Sector A. His name is Dan Valentine and I know him from gaming with him on the online MMO Dungeon and Dragons online. He has, other then played DDO, never played in a PBP game or even has very much EXP in Table Top he is a total rookie in RPG type games. He has the 4th Edition books but you all know my feelings on later D&D Editions

If he does decide to join he will, as Brundal is, play a straight class fighter w/ possibly a kit and I hope you all will guide him as he will need it to get up to speed. He does have one thing going for him, other then his desire to learn the game. He brings with him, as a sort of mentor, into the world of the Red Dragon Inn a Baylor Professor who may help him write his posts in the beginning. I have talked to the gentleman in question and he seems to be really interested in the world of AD&D, PBP gaming, and how one DM’s such a game, and wants to know more about it. I am going to see about him creating an Avatar to be able to post comments in the Q/A and ask questions of any of us, so be prepared

On another note since Kriea is at the moment MIA I have asked Ginafae to play the character of Valene Temporally until at least the middle of next month. If Kriea has failed to return by then I will decide whether to drop or recruit a new player for the character or intro a altogether new one. Lets hope for her return.

One last thing Ginafae has gotten me her new spellbook spells and memorized spell list and I have posted them on her sheet. I'm still waiting on Odyson and Kyle for theirs, are you guys really gonna allow yourselves to be beaten so badly by a women

Hmm...

Good news on recruiting another player. I hope you've warned him of the likelihood of him dying a horrible and ugly death.

And, as for being beaten by a woman, it's only right that it happen. Because I'm awesome *flexes muscles*

Yes Mistress Gina........

Oh, beaten by a woman sounds so....... oops family Place.

Well I've gotten the spell list created and I'll send it to you Tann. You saw my spell so I started filling in the spells and forgot to send the list.

I'll also get the travels choice too, I was going to do more lookup of the new spells but it seems I won't have time this round.

If I'm not mistaken wouldn't Sirene, Ulthok, and Maggot have the same mage (bard) spells since copying each others and Kandur's spell books? Sirene will have Druid spells and Maggot will have Ranger spells too.

Yes...

Yes, but Sirene didn't copy Animate Dead into her spellbook (since she thinks the spell is abhorrent).

Oh,OK..........

Tann,
Add Animate Dead to my list at Lvl 5, it doesn't bother Ulthok.

I also noticed that some of Kandur's spells seemed to be on the wrong level. Fumble / Imp / Invisibility were on 4th level I believe they are 2nd level, but there might be a 4th level version, was going to look it up.

I hadn't sorted all those out yet and if there was a Glove and / or Globe of Invulnerability?

Typos

I think there were a lot of typos there. So 'Imp / Invisibility' was actually 'Improved Invisibility' etc. Fumble, however, is a 4th level spell (not one of my faves, but it can be useful).

Question

Are halflings physically capable of riding horses? Do they need a special saddle or something if they are?

(I'm not really a horse person you understand...)
