Still around...
...just had my own dose of RL rears it's ugly head, lately. :/
And, yeah, I'm not a big "puzzle guy" in play by post games, to be honest, so my characters don't tend to do much when such scenarios are taking center stage (aside from keeping watch and letting the "brains" of the party handle the thinky thinky stuff).
Anyhoo... trying to get my life sorted out but will try to be more diligent about posting.

Nap....
Maybe our clerics would want to each add a Nap spell for future use. They are handy when we need to recharge in a short time frame.
Revisit your spells and see if you need to switch any too.

So.... Do we stay or go then? Do we think we have it all turned to the right placement?

Move out!
If this game is 13 years old, we need to keep it moving!
That means, "move out!" Since we now know what this thing does, and we know it isn't the key to getting back to the future, it seems like the only thing to do is move out. That is what I will be posting anyway. Plus, the beholders seem to be coming, so this might not be a good place to stay and take another nap.

Move Out....
Well we need to place our spells and then move out. I had posted way back on moving out so I'll just update that.
Now we don't know if it is the Beholder, it could be the Cyclopes. I remember that Beholders act as leaders and call others to follow.

Ooops...
I meant that I don't remember Beholders as being leaders.
I seem to remember them a lone creatures.
Also just a precaution I'd say that Sirene and Cor post that they refreshed their cold protection spells on the party members. This gives Ulthok a refreshed protection to lead and the area effect renewed to last longer. If we get into combat in the cold each member should have the individual protection from cold so they can move out the area spell as needed to fight.
I'll see what I can find on Cyclopes and Beholders to help inform you on combat options. If you have a monster manual I suggest looking them up too.

Generic Beholder Stuff......
Here's some basic stuff from the monster manual.
The central eye produces an anti-magic ray with a 140-yard range, which covers a 90 degree arc before the creature. No magic (including the effects of the other eyes) will function within that area. Spells cast in or passing through that zone cease to function.
A beholder may activate the magical powers of its eyes' at will. Generally, a beholder can use 1d4 smaller eyes if attackers are within a 90 degree angle in front, 1d6 if attacked from within a 180 degree angle, 1d8 if attacked from a 270 degree arc, and all 10 eyes if attacked from all sides. The central eye can be used only against attacks from the front. If attacked from above, the beholder can use all of the smaller eyes.
The beholder can withstand the loss of its eyestalks, each eyestalk/smaller eye having 5-12 hit points. This loss of hit points is over and above any damage done to the central body. The body can withstand two thirds of the listed hit points in damage before the creature perishes. The remaining third of the listed hit points are located in the central eye, and destroying it will eliminate the anti-magic ray. A beholder with 45 hit points will have a body that will take 30 points of damage, a central eye that will take 15 points, while one with 75 hit points will have a body that will withstand 50 points of damage, and a central eye that takes 25 hit points to destroy. Both beholders would have smaller eyestalks/eyes that take 5-12 (1d8+4) points of damage to destroy, but such damage would not affect the body or central eye. Slaying the body will kill the beholder and render the eyes powerless.

Beholder
So, as odd as it seems, would attacking a beholder directly from the front make sense, at least for a warrior? It's own eye stalks would be no threat, but the warrior's blade would still hit hard. This, of course, would assume that the thing here is actually like a normal beholder.

Post Delayed
Ok not going to post tonight as I need some questions answered first from the following.
COR: I assume his new spells will be 8 more Endure Cold/Heat?
ALIYA: I assume her spells are staying as is?
RAYNE: Would someone be willing to pick some good 1st lvl spells for her? I have not heard from SirSadaar in some time so is anyone willing to run her in combat
ROAN: We have only had 1 in game post from Elious since he started and his spells are full so if he does not show up anyone want to run him in combat?
TALCA: Ok Eol's been hammered by RL so real good chance his Ranger is gonna be spell less if combat hits, so be aware.
I think that's everything, if I seem like I'm being anal, very good reason for it, so my apologies.

Rayne
I can take on Rayne until Sadaar gets back. Give me a few to come up with a spell list for her. Will do so before Sunday.
Can the rest of you claim another char for the meantime, I think we are going to need it. Especially Talca and Roan...

Characters
I can take on one of the characters. If Eol can't get some spells picked, could one of us do it? Or just run him as a basic fighter for now?

Sure Nomad go for it
I don't see why Eol would mind that, and it would be a bonus for the party.
