M&M: New Camelot Knights

I'm interested in getting a game going and since my current craze is my own setting for Mutants & Masterminds, that is what I am going for.

However, I'm not entirely sure what story I want to tell, so I'm going to see where the interest lies and go from there. Here's a little bit about the setting:

New Camelot is a sprawling city in the USA, rising in the early 1900s or the late 1800s and booming in the '40s and '50s after Merlin himself summoned the freakin' Excalibur to where now is Excalibur Park. Today, it is one of the largest cities in the States.

It is also the home to the Knights of the Round Table, a team of superheroes who guard the country and the world from threats of various kinds, as well as nearly a dozen solo heroes and smaller teams. The Knights are generally accepted as the greatest team of superheroes in the United States, and are rivalled by few in the entire world.

New Camelot also houses the famous Emrys Academy, school for the gifted and the paranormal. The Academy was founded by Merlin decades ago and teaches kids with superpowers how to control them.

Heroism spawns villainy, or the other way around. Either way, New Camelot has no shortage of villains big and small. From Evil Lord Pineapple to Green Knight to Ragnarök, threat is never too far away. Which is why OZ exists to hold the worst of the superpowered villains.

That is a quick overview. Here's what I had in mind:

City Heroes ( PL10 ): The PCs are heroes in the city of New Camelot, doing heroic things, beating up bad guys and saving the day, that sort of jazz. Crime happens, the heroes must act.

High School High ( PL8 ): The PCs are students at Emrys Academy, doing student stuff, joining clubs, homework and saving the day. More of a fun stuff, until something happens and the Academy stands alone in the way of villainy.

Riot of OZ ( PL12 ): The PCs are heroes who are transferring a villain into OZ, the superpowered penitentiary for superpowered villains, when all hell breaks lose and the prisoners attempt to gain control of the facilities.

Historic Plots: And then there are the historical points of interest in New Camelot.

-Noir Camelot ( PL8; 1937 ): Dark streets and tough vigilantes. A Noir story.

-WWII ( PL10; 1940-45 ): War stories and the first incarnation of the Knights of the Round Table. Nazis and the heroes of Axis oppose the heroes of the Allies.

-Fall of Heroes ( PL10; 1978 ): The Seer has foreseen the fall of the Round Table. Can the heroes prevent it?

-Age of Iron ( PL8-10; 1989 ): Grim heroics against the villains. Rules will be broken. Lines will be crossed.

-The Arcadian Invasion ( PL10-12; 2000 ): Morgana of the Fey commands an invasion of the fomorian army against New Camelot and the world in an attempt to acquire the Excalibur. King Arthur returns!

---

Those are the ideas anyway, and the bits and parts of the setting I would like to develop further. I need at least 3 interested players and preferably no more than 5 or 6.

Posting will be kept at ease; there will be no need for panic if you can't get your post in every week. I will also not require posts to be of the highest quality; if you can get your point across efficiently, that's great and good enough for me, even if it is only 2 lines or less even.

This is not first come, first served kind of recruiting. If you are interested in joining, I'd like to see what sort of character you'd be bringing. You can have more than one idea, that's fine, or change your initial concept if you prefer, but I will not accept a character that is broken, or one that won't play well with others, or one that just doesn't fit the themes of whatever sort of game we decide to go with.

Finally, we'll be using the 3rd edition rules, but I'll be using some 2nd edition books for inspiration. You are free to do the same, but speak with me before you start using something from Hero High or Lockdown.

Now that this has all been said, who's interested?

(In case it needs to be said, this game will be forum posts only.)

Tempting

I do not have the time to devote to restarting my 'Treasure Seekers' nor returning to any of the games I was active in before the demands of my Real Life writing.

Thought the Super Hero adventure that Eol had started long ago was being resurrected, but that is not the case.

I would like to do some Creative Game Writing and maybe your game would be such an outlet, but I am not familiar with the 'Mutants & Masterminds' game.

Grugg playing has my interest piqued and if it is a Noir Setting then I would certainly consider playing.

Also, a Prison Breakout Mayhem has possibilities, but I will wait and see what Setting you are doing and how much interest there is ?????

Tempting ..... Tempting ..... Tempting ...........

You know...

... the Noir Camelot idea is an interesting concept.... one that I could be tempted by, even.

Well...

The Noir Camelot idea has a lot of potential. I believe I would have good time running it

Here's the rough idea:

Paranormal individuals are not understood in societies. They are dangerous, they are freaks, they cannot be trusted. This doesn't cause people to outright attack them, but they have a difficult time getting any work and people don't particularly like to socialize with them. They are not heroes; they are abnormalities.

But when a man disappears and the police doesn't want to do anything about it, a desperate woman seeks out these abnormalities for help. They may not be completely trustworthy, but who else can you turn to when the cops are so obviously corrupted?

Ooo...

I like the Noir Camelot idea as it lends itself to a "watchmen" and "v for vendetta" style adventure.

...

Then I guess we'll be going with the Noir Camelot concept

If you're interested in joining, I'd like you to post your character ideas here so that everyone knows what you'll be playing. I'd hate for some two characters pretty much being identical (like Owlman and Black Raven, both Batman replicas) by accident

No Problem

I am trying to figure out the Point Buying to put to the Character, so if I understand it properly we get to add 120 points to what point base ???

Do we start from '0' in each category or another number base ???

Yes -- 120 points total

Hammer,

Yes, you do have 120 power point total to divide between Attributes, Powers, Skills, Advantages, Defenses, etc.

The Power Level system in M&M works out that you gain 15 power point per power level... so level 1 gains 15 points, level 5 would be 75 points, level 8 would be 120 points.

Enjoy!

Also... yes, Zero

Hammer,
Also, yes, Attributes, Powers, Skills, etc... all start at rank 0.

Defenses are keyed off of Attributes though, so they start at the same rank as their keyed attribute. You can purchase additional defenses to make them higher than their keyed attributes.

Peace,
Ayrn
