To the group

Ok, folks, what do you want to do?  We seem to all be together so we can make this decision as a group and then all post based on that.  Things to conisder in my mind include:

1.  Destroying the sword.  Magic isn't Lothor's thing so he would defer to the spell casters on this, but it seems to me if all we really had to do was toss the stupid thing into the flames there would have been no reason to wait.  Who cares if the dwarven mages are tired if it is just a toss?

2.   Destroying the sword, part 2.  If, in fact, the only thing left to do with the sword is to toss it into the fire I can come up with only one reason for the delay - the dwarf mages fell under the spell of the sword.  That would perhaps explain the delay and the attack.  But since it appeared that one mage did sucumb and had to be visibly restrained and killed, it seems unlikely.  Besides, Tann wouldn't do that, would he?

3.  Hunt out the forges.  This doesn't have to mean we lob the stick in, it just means we try to find our way there.  Someone might be able to help us find it.  And if the attack is big and successful, we might need to get there sooner rather than later.  But who do we ask?  We are close to the amount of time needed for a rest for the mages.

4.  The attack.  I think we can safely assume that the Dark One has sent his minions.  The questions are - what type of minions?  Where are they?  (Outside or inside?  If inside, where?)  How likely to suceed are they?  Do they have help on the inside?

5.  What is the best way to get information on the attack?

6.  Do we want to help repel the attack?  Not a bad idea, but it might be bringing the sword within reach of the enemies minions and perhaps moving us further away from the forges.

So, I think we need opinions on the following:

1.  The best way to get information.

2.   Go to the forge or go to the fight?  Yes, we want intel, but unless someone has a good answer to #1 I would think we pick a destination and start heading there as a way of gathering info.

As for Lothor, every instinct he has screams 'run to the battle!'  But wisdom would seem to say protect the sword at all costs.

Lets hear from everyone!  (Tann, these don't need your response unless you want to offer up extra information)  Please don't say "I don't have an opinion."  We need a decision.

Decisions...

1 Best way to gather information

Would splitting up be too risky? Would it make us vulnerable? Because this is the only way I can think of that is a good way of gathering information in a subtle manner. Perhaps just a couple of our number could go undercover to the dwarven blacksmiths (I assume those are the ones you need to question because they run the forges) and ask discreet questions so as to not arouse suspicion and be discovered. After gathering information from that forge, we could then regroup, move onto the next and repeat.

2 Do we go to the forge or to the fight?

Personally, I think going to straight to the fight is reckless and unwise. It will be, as Nomad said, putting the sword into enemy hands. Also, we need information and who knows, maybe some of that information will help us to defeat our enemies. I think we should gather the information we require first, then join the battle.

These are my suggestions.

Additional thoughts

Silent One - We have not yet destroyed the sword - that process was only begun and can not be comnpleted anywhere but the forge.  (At least here)

Split up the party - Seems like a very bad idea.  All hands should be on hand to protect the sword.  It is what they are coming for. If we don't go to them, I suspect they will come to us.  Unless Tann is kind enought to allow the dwarves to stop the assault on their own.

Finding the blacksmiths - if this is a true assault on the fortress then nobody is going to be hanging out and blacksmithing.  Life won't be "normal" at the moment.  Which doesn't mean we can't attempt to find them.  Just don't expect them to be at work at the local forges.

Our primary objective is to destroy the sword.  The current attack is at best a coincidental distraction and at worst a ploy to show is down, grant the evil forces more time to find us or worst case take the sword from us.  We need to move to the forge as quickly as possible.  As for splitting up the party, that is a bad idea as it weakens is in the game and is a pain for the DM.

Forge

I agree, we need to go to the forge. Anything else will be a waste of our time or will create unnecessary danger. We need to stay together and focus on the primary goal.

To the Forge we go

Lothor agrees - we should try and find the forge.  But whoever is guiding us needs to keep in mind that we don't know where it is.  We need to ask - and get info on the attack as we go.

Sorry..again...

Sorry so silent. I have just been having a terrible time getting my story on. I used to blame it on my old terrible job, then on my heath due to the pain and discomfort or the drugs.

But it isn't that, I forget. I get distarcted. I loose track.

I will try to do better, but I've told Tann that if someone would want to take over Ulthok I would not object.

This has been great fun so I don't want to ruin the fun for all of you. I will have something up by Sunday night.

@Keeper of Dragons

In your latest post in the roleplay, you put that Cor is adressing the entire group in the hallway to not partake in the battle and to go to the forge. But Arandur is already in the courtyard with the dwarven knights ready to fight. So how will the elf know that Cor has told everyone to go to the forge?

lol... it's called EDIT.  Just back it up a bit and something like he was heading to the court yard but then he saw the group assembling so stopped to go back and find out what's up.

Heck I have to change my posts all the time to match up with others or what Tann writes.

No big deal.

Site acting up

A few times recently this site has acted weird on me.  I just lost a long post with some thoughts on the curent situation.  I'm not going to recreate it, but I do think we all need to be really careful.  As Ody's last post said, something is weird about how things went down with the sword.  A lot of it is not what I would have expected.

And Ody - you are not allowed to leave.  You have been the heart and soul of this group in many ways for as long as I have been running Lothor.

Yep I agree and an answer to Dragon-Soul

What Nomad said, plus I know where you live and I'll kill you in our roll20 game if you do leave.

In your latest post in the roleplay, you put that Cor is adressing the entire group in the hallway to not partake in the battle and to go to the forge. But Arandur is already in the courtyard with the dwarven knights ready to fight. So how will the elf know that Cor has told everyone to go to the forge?

Dragon-Soul the way a play by post normally goes is the player posts his actions, as you did in saying you were headed out to the courtyard to join the Dwarf guards. However that courtyard is a few levels above you and you don't know how to get there. So in my post I just say that the party is all together as a group waiting on Cor and Ulthok to make the call to fight, flee or try to make it to the forges. However not knowing where the forges are I introduced a squad of Dwarf soldiers and Ironclaw to lead the way there. However on the way there your attacked by, at the moment, 20 Derro or Dark Dwarves. Hope this helps you to better understand my posts

Combat.....

Combat...time to shine.

Well it's been a while so I hope we aren't rusty.

A little chat here before we attack there.

My two cents to start. We need to take out the cross bows first if possile. Ulthok and Sirene with area effect on the group in the middle and to the right. Maybe fireball or lighting, sort of like when we took out the goblins. Those poison bolts are trouble. Anyone with bows could hit the indiviuals on the left, fewer cross bows there. We need to get info from Tann on relative distance to the enemy so we don't toast ourselves. Peri may be able to cast Rock to Mud so some sink and are impared on their attack, maybe then turn the mud back to rock and trap them. Melee fighter perpare to handle any that charge and get close. Nimu can figure something for Frag. If the animals are with us they should avoid being good targets for the crossbows.

Ok those are my first thoughts, your turns what do you guys think?

Just checked back and if I read it correctly the room is 300x300 feet. If I can do some copy and paste I might be able to some area effect sizing similar to what we did in the Goblin room to help judge if fireball is a good idea. In the mean would you want a to do something different? In game we can have Cor, Ulthok or someone else shout out attack suggestions as the field general.
