Good question, Hammer!

The outlying areas of Scyon City are much like those of any metropolitan city on the eastern seaboard of the United States. A smattering of smaller city's and towns nearby, rural areas and perhaps some state parks/national forests and the like intermingled between and/or at the fringes, etc.

I figrue Scyon City to be and analog of New York City (or Gotham City) if you prefer to think of it that way. So, imagine driving 50 - 100 miles in any direction from there and you've got a pretty good idea.
