Kavtan reels from the blow as a spasm of pain shoots through his body. He immediately steeled himself, however, and the heroic, adventurous trait of his race took hold of him. He set his phaser to the lethal setting and began fighting defensively, using the wall obscuring the alley from the street for cover. The human thug fires once again, but Kavtan narrowly avoids the attack. His defensive fighting has it's price, however. When he fires next, his shot is so poorly aimed that it's unclear to all around who he was even shooting it - it comes close to hitting Ninkanna.

Ninkanna on the other hand, has moved to attack the ringleader, the scarred Arcona. She turns from her attack on his human henchman to strike at him. Aiming for the criminal's legs, Ninkanna slices horiztonally. The disoriented foe is not in any position to defend himself.

The blow is stronger than perhaps Anna herself had planned - she slices both of his legs clean off, bringing the Arcona to the ground. Despite the fact that he is stunned, the Arcona lets out a cry of agony and curls into a ball on the ground, howling in pain. The thug to the Arcona's left fires at Ninkanna once more, but his shot is easily deflected once more. The two criminals seem even more determined to kill their two attackers now, however, and the human who had previously been firing on Kavtan has turned his blaster towards Ninkanna...

(OOC: Good job, once again; Ninkanna not only hit the thug's legs, but also scored a critical hit, taking his legs clean off. Your main opponent is incapacitated. Now you have the two remaining thugs to deal with...)

Sure, custom modifications to your hold-out blaster are possible; we'll discuss the specifics once your character has some down time. Meanwhile, I'll check and see what the manual has to say, if anything.

In answer to your question, Reralae:

Nope, to quote the manual, "using a ranged weapon that requires two hands to operate can provoke an attack of opportunity if all other criteria are met."

...and by the way, it's your turn to post.

Si-Di removes the Arcona's belt and binds his hands. He is dressed in standard spacer garb, and he doesn't seem to have anything useful on him at all, aside from his comlink, into which he was speaking earlier. The blaster he had previously used was now in Si-Di's hands, and other than this, he has no possessions (aside from the clothes on him, of course).

He lets out an "Urrrpp..." as Si-Di ties his hands, but remains relatively immobile; he doesn't seem to be completely unconscious, but he's certainly not what one would call 'awake'.

If Si-Di tries the comlink, she finds that it is dead on the other end, getting nothing but static - a sure sign that it's corresponding comlink has either been turned off or destroyed. Si-Di takes a step back from the dazed Arcona.

"Did you notice anything unusual about this one and his companion?" she asked.

Before she gets a response from Rok, however, the Arcona starts to stir.

"Urrghh...what the..." The Arcona's yellow eyes to start to open. Salt is a highly addictive substance to Arcona - it causes them to hallucinate pleasurably but quickly leads to dependency. A salt-addicted Arcona is easy to spot, since their eyes turn from their natural green to a goldish yellow. Arcona addicted to salt, like this one, were prone to abandon the relatively peaceful ways of their race and turn to crime to pay for their salt habit. As he comes to, the alien starts to struggle against his bindings, then notices the blaster pistol aimed at him.

"Lemme go," he says to the Jedi. He looks back and forth between her and her companion. "Listen...if you let me go, I'll make it worth your while. In credits, see? I didn't do anything anyway, this is all just a big misunderstanding. So just let me go before any Guild security shows up, and I'll make you both richer for it."

Ninkanna lets out a primal scream and moves to attack her assailants. She advances to her left, moving to attack the human on the Arcona thug's left flank. A hint of fear can be seen in the eyes of the criminals as they see the unleashed power of a Jedi Knight, albeit even still an apprentice. Ninkanna, twirling her as she moves, strikes quickly at the human to the Arcona's left.

She slashes outward, her saber striking the human horizontally across his chest. The human makes to dodge the attack, but is not nearly fast enough; there are few simple thugs in the galaxy who would be prepared to dodge such an attack. In a flash of blue light, the human is knocked backwards by the force of the attack, the saber slicing into his chest and searing his flesh. He nearly falls to the ground, but stumbles and regains his balance. He lifts the blaster as if to fire...

Meanwhile, Kavtan catches up with Ninkanna. Readying his blaster as he ran, he is more than prepared when he turns the corner - the enemy thugs didn't even notice the sound of his footsteps over the sound of their own blaster fire. Kavtan steps out from the behind the corner and fires his blaster on stun at the ringleader - the scarred Arcona. The blast hits the Arcona squarely in the chest, and the stunned alien stumbles, disoriented momentarily. It seems as though the Arcona had mustered some kind of inner strength to withstand the full force of the attack and wasn't stunned completely...

Meanwhile, the human that Ninkanna attacked raises his blaster and fires, though she's more than ready for the attack now, and easily bats the bolt away with her saber.

The human to the Arcona's right has stopped paying attention to the Jedi and immediately looks to Kavtan as soon as he fires on the Arcona - the thug turns and fires his blaster pistol at Kavtan. It is an excellent shot, striking Kavtan directly in the chest. Kavtan is nearly knocked off his feet from the force of the blast - unlike Kavtan, this criminal is willing to set his blaster on lethal. Pain shoots through Kavtan's body, but he can feel that the blast, miraculously, was not life-threatening.

It seems as though these crooks are fighting for their lives and willing to shoot to kill...

(OOC: Alrighty then - good work, Ninkanna - you've hit that human (HARD) and easily deflected a second attack, even at point-blank range.

Good job stunning the Arcona, Kavtan - he has saved, however as was only stunned for one round. Unfortunately, the human who fired on you scored a 20 (a perfect hit) + his bonus, but failed to get a critical hit. You've taken 8 damage, knocking out your vitality points and taking your wound points down to 9.

Your moves, and good luck.)

Subject: In the spirit of the chase...

(OOC: We'll keep this fast-paced...)

Ninkanna, closely followed by Kavtan, dash after the Arcona, who quickly turns the corner, heading down the road. On the street, land-speeders and speeder-bikes wizz back and forth; on them are miners, Guild and Union members wearing their respective colors and local merchants. The sidewalks are densely populated with more of the same; aliens from hundreds of worlds are walking to and from their various destinations.

As Ninkanna and Kavtan reach the street, which is perpendicular to the landing pad, they spot the Arcona, who has turned left, and it now heading towards the main street, which runs all the way through Dom-Rhett spaceport; the Arcona is heading towards what is easily the most populous area in the city.

Ninkanna concentrates on running, and she can still easily see the crook, though he is quickly being obscured. Steam billows up from the vents all over the city, pedestrians are all over the place, and the noise of speeder traffic is dulling the senses. As she runs, she bumps into a quarren in full mining gear, who shouts in a gruff, accented voice as she passes, "Oy! Yeh ahmost kilt meh wit dat ting!" He shakes his fist, gesturing at her lightsaber.

Kavtan has similiar problems, narrowly avoiding crashing into a protocol droid walking by. The motion of the two is impeded by having to weave through the crowd of miners and other pedestrians. However, as Kavtan and Ninkanna press the chase, they can see the Arcona duck into an alley just ahead. As Anna reaches the narrow street, she's met with the sight of the Arcona thug...standing with two friends, both human.

And all three of them have blasters drawn.

(OOC: Ninkanna got a 10 on initiative, the enemy party got a 16. Kavtan is just behind Ninkanna, but he's not in view of the baddies in the alley just yet - it's unclear if they know that he's not far behind Ninkanna - therefore, he hasn't enterred combat just yet. No one is surprised, since everyone is in clear view).

Ninkanna's lightsaber is already drawn, and she intuitively deflects one of the blaster bolts fired off by the human to her Arcona target's right. However, the Arcona and his friend both fire almost simultaneously just after Ninkanna's swing, and both blaster bolts strikes her. Pain hits her like a ton of bricks with the sudden attack.

Kavtan's footsteps aren't far behind, and Kavtan himself can hear the sound of blaster fire...

(Should Kavtan choose to enter combat at this point, he will make an initiative roll as soon as he turns that corner.

Ninkanna has taken 6 damage from one blast, and 7 from another, knocking out your vitality points and taking you down to 12 Wound Points. However, it is your turn, Reralae. Use it well.

Grugg and YeOlde may continue at their own pace; but as my only NPC there is stunned, I have no action to take at the cantina.)

Don't worry - I have been reading your posts here, StGeorge, and I've opted to simply check dexterity to see how fast each character can run relative to one another, rather than calculate distance. The chase, as you'll see in my next post, however, it coming to an end...

Ninkanna gives chase to the Arcona, bolting to the opposite end of the bar, with Kavtan in tow, activating his stun baton. Ninkanna's lightsaber hums to life as she starts to chase the two suspicious characters, and with her other hand she speaks into her comlink.

"Master, if you're still outside, there's two Arcona that seem to be in a hurry; I not sure that I can catch them in time," she says, but is met with something unnerving - static on the other end, and no answer. However, in the heat of the chase, her focus seems to be on the Arcona.

Meanwhile, as the two in front of him, bound across the cantina, Lysander takes aim at the nearest Arcona, the one holding the blaster, and fires his heavy blaster with the setting on stun. He fires, and a burst of blue light issues from the blaster, striking the Arcona and knocking him off his feet. He twitches, trying to get up, but slips into paralysis, dropping his blaster as his hand goes limp.

The second Arcona manages to make the leap out of the window, but the Jedi and Kavtan are so close on his tail that not long after he hits the pavement with a thud, the two are closely behind him. He glances behind him, the scar running down his face making him an unsightly, intimidating figure indeed as he snarls, then turns to run. Si-Di has ducked out of the door of the cantina, but isn't nearly as fast as Ninkanna or Kavtan and is just now catching up...

(OOC: Lysander is inside the cantina. Ninkanna, Kavtan and Si-Di now have the option to give chase to the scarred Arcona as he runs, split up, or do whathaveyou. I assumed that since the group wanted to give chase that they would all continue the chase until both Arcona were caught, which is why I had you jump out the window after the second one - if I interpreted your posts wrong, feel free to correct me).

Meanwhile, Ninkanna is still getting static on her end of the comlink, and still no answer. The Arcona they're chasing is fast and and as he begins to run again towards the street, it's clear that catching him may not be as easy as catching his companion. Si-Di can see Kavtan and Ninkanna in front of her, and the duo can hear Si-Di running behind them...

The reality dawns on the group - once the chase is taken to the streets, it may be harder to catch the elusive figure...

Si-Di runs outside to try and cut off any attempt to flee.
Grugg is aiming at the Arcona - is he firing?
Kavtan is moving to intercept the Arcona with his stun baton? (I'm not exactly clear on this)
Ninkanna draws and ignites her saber for the purpose of defense, but she is staying put, correct?

"Wuh?"

The first Arcona, who had been speaking into him comlink, turns and looks, prompting his companion to look as well. "Another Jedi?!" the second, scarred Arcona said, betraying his fear. The pair quickly realized the deception, however, and turn back around. This time, the scarred Arcona draws his blaster...only to be met with a kick in the crotch.

Fortunately for Lysander, it seemed that this species kept their gentials in at least approximately the same region as his. The alien keeled over, letting out an "Oof!" and nearly loosing his balance.

As Lysander jumps up and dives for the door, the two Jedi and Kavtan witness the situation.

"Jedi!" the first Arcona shouts, snatching the blaster away from his 'incapacitated' partner.

He looks like he's about to take aim at one of the Jedi, when the scarred Arcona knocks his hand down. "You idiot!" he says audibly. Soon all eyes in the cantina are on the two aliens; the lead Arcona aims his blaster at the ceiling and fires two times, then blasts out the window.

The two make a mad dash for the window...

Master Arkana studies the Duros, then looks to the two padawan learners.

"Yes, this local may be of help to you in investigating that incident. But if the culprits are in the cantina, they will attempt to flee; you must be quick. Meanwhile, I'm going to see if I can secure lodging for us - it's clear to me that we'll need a base of operations that has living space for all three of us. I'll contact you, Anna, when I find something suitable."

Master Arkana waves goodbye to the trio and turns to go, heading towards the main street that runs through Dom-Rhett. She walks into a patch of steam billowing up from a vent on the ground, and disappears on her way off the landing pad.

Ninkanna turns to Si-Di. Testing the waters, she concentrates, causing the ocean to ripple at her hand, until she is holding a small wave at it. She carefully reaches forward, seeing the ripples that mark where Si-Di is, and touches her shoulder. The wave is released, washing through Si-Di's form. Ninkanna opens her eyes and takes back her hand, seeing if that did it.

Unfortunately, Si-Di doesn't feel much of anything, except the good intentions of Anna. "Thank you," she says, regardless, thankful for the attempt.

(OOC: Sorry, healing another requires the alter feat; however, Si-Di isn't hurt very badly so it shouldn't be too much of a problem).

The three enter the cantina, glancing about for any sign of suspicious activity. The hustle and bustle of the cantina is in full-force. Several people have been lifted onto the bar so that they can lie down as their injuries are treated. The bartender is running back and forth with wet rags and water for the injured. Klebb is speaking to one of the pilots, a Sullustan, who is holding a steak to his forehead. It is utter confusion. Several of the patrons, who were initially interested by the commotion, are now annoyed and beginning to filter out of the bar.

Si-Di, Ninkanna and Kavtan all study the place, then Si-Di finally says,

“I am Si-Di. I would like to ask you all some questions if I may regarding the explosion that took place just a little while ago which claimed the life of a Jedi Master.”

She is met with grumbles by some, total indifference by others. Some are too busy to bother, others are irritated at being told they're going to be questioned after just being knocked off their feet by an explosion.

The Sullustan bartender, who is nearby, sighs. "Probably not the best time, gal," he mutters, on his way to bring water to some of the injured. "You may have to wait awhile."

The group continues to scan the bar.

Meanwhile, nearer to the far wall, near the window, Lysander Orda is engaged in a tense confrontation with two Arcona...

(OCC: Grugg said he'd have his sheet in and post by today, so no further posting until then. I'd like to resolve his situation before we move on.)

"I sustained some minor burns from the flames," she stated calmly, "I will seek aid after the other passengers are tended to."

Master Janis Arkana bows slightly to Si-Di.

"I knew Master Allum, but I didn't know he was coming to this world. I didn't expect to him standing in the threshold of this shuttle...and I didn't expect that to be the last time I saw him. I feel for your loss. But I sense that the force in strong you, Si-Di. Use the force, use it to make yourself at peace." She places her hand on Si-Di's shoulder. "Just as Master Zen Allum is now at peace, a part of the Force."

Master Arkana then listens to Kavtan's introduction, then introduces herself and her padawan to him. "I thank you for your bravery, Kavtan. Without your aid, the fire may have engulfed the engines and resulted in many more deaths."

Master Janis Arkana turns to Si-Di, detected her using the force to search the feelings of those in the cantina. "Do you sense anything, young apprentice?"

Si-Di stretches out with her feelings, but the feelings of others in the cantina, namely the survivors of the blast, are very powerful. Fear and confusion are the main emotions hit Si-Di and she's unable to sift out one emotion from another. Master Arkana looks pensive, then also looks in the direction of the cantina, stretching out with her feelings. "I doubt we'll be able to sense anything with all the commotion in there," she says. She looks about, as if trying to gather herself. It seems as though she's coming up with a plan.

Master Arkana then turns to Kavtan. "You've been of great help so far. This world is unknown to us, and your knowledge could be of help. Since you're coming to Rhetti Hall tonight to meet with Mr. Namor, could we consider you our ally?"

(I'm assuming Kavtan will say yes, but I don't want to answer for him).

Master Arkana turns back to Si-Di and Ninkanna. "I understand some kind of peace talks are going to occur here, Si-Di. If that is your mission, my padawan is now your partner in this. You shouldn't have to bear this burden alone, and I think you may need the help, considering how dangerous your mission has been thus far. In any case, Si-Di, you've exerted yourself enough already.

"Anna, I suggest you go to the cantina and see if you can find anything or anyone suspicious. Meanwhile, I will try to find lodging for Si-Di and ourselves, so that we might have a base of operations here."

Before Ninkanna leaves, Master Arkana pulls her aside. "Si-Di must have help in her mission, and the one we're looking for is far too dangerous for you to take him on alone. Therefore, from now on, you and Si-Di are working together. We'll try to remain together, but it's imperative that you and Si-Di complete her mission; I will complete ours."

As Si-Di lowers the two unconscious pilots to the ground, she is suddenly aided by two employee's of Klebbs, who have rushed out to the burning ship to aid in the rescue attempt.

Using a high-pressure hose and several more extinguishers, the workers quickly move to contain the fire, warning everyone back, as the fuel tanks still ran the risk of exploding at any moment.

"Finally," Cern Namor exclaims, stroking his beard. "The cavalry."

Klebb himself dashes outside from the cantina, heading towards the survivors of the accident, shouting for his workers to get everyone injured inside as soon as possible and to contain the fire. "Take all the injured to the back room and start first aid!" he shouts. He then turns to Kavtan, who has moved away from the fire at the request of the other employees.

"This is the last thing we need, Kavtan!"

"They might be impressed by our hospitality. By the way, you don't expect me to tune that thing up anymore, do you? It'd be an easy fix if not for the giant hole in it."

Klebb merely shakes his head. "Looks like scrap metal to me, Kav. I have to attend to these survivors and make sure everyone has food and drink. I trust that Mr. Namor will attend to the ambassadors?"

Namor simply nodded, and Klebb and his employees led the injured into the cantina. Meanwhile, the fire had all but died. Kavtan, the three Jedi and Cern Namor began walking down the landing area to the opposite side of where the explosion occurred.

"A disaster," Namor grumbles. "I came here to greet you, but it seems I must offer my condolences as well. I'm sorry for the loss of your master, madame Jedi. However, I must ask, why have you two Jedi come? Has the chancellor doubled the number of ambassadors he was sending?"

"No," Master Arkana responds. She gestures towards Ninkanna. "My apprentice and I are here on a secret mission; we had no idea negotiations were about to occur, but given the chain of events, I'm glad we were here."

"There's much to talk about, but here is not the time or the place," Cern Namor responds. "Come to Rhetti Hall tonight. You are all invited - including you," (he points at Kavtan). "Your heroics helped avert that crisis. In any case, the negotiations are scheduled to begin tomorrow. We will dine tonight at Rhetti Hall and discuss the situation. Good day to you all..."

And with that, the noble walks off.

---

Meanwhile, inside Klebb's, Lysander edges closer to the two Arcona, trying to hear their conversation. Confident in his ability to spot two scoundrels, he listens in to the two Arcona, who are speaking basic. Upon closer inspection, it seems that one of them is speaking into a communicator of some kind.

"No!" the first one says, frustrated. "The bomb went off but..." (he glances around, but misses Lysander) "Only one Jedi ate it...and there's two more."

Someone on the other end speaks in an unidentified language - it's hard to hear over the commotion, as several injured are now being ushered into the cantina. The two Arcona, oblivious, make way from the foot traffic and walk closer to Lysander, allowing him to hear more easily.

"I don't know!" the Arcona speaking into the transmitter says, irritated. "How am I supposed to know that?"

The second Arcona is more frightening, bearing a disfiguring scar that mars his face from below his right eye to his chin; he suddenly tugs the sleeve of his companion, who ignores him.

"I'm not crazy," he says. "Do you think I've got a death wish..."

Suddenly, his companion with the scar tugs on his sleeve again, gesturing towards Lysander. The two of them glance at each other, then the first Arcona shuts off his communicator, and they both walk towards Lysander.

"You lookin' at something, warm-blood?" the scarred Arcona spat.

(Good job to all our firefighters. I'll put up a status report on the Q&A thread with info about remaining vitality points, etc. in a bit)

I don't want to put a cap on something that you could realistically do - but keep in mind two factors.

1). Would Kavtan do this? This is a tantamount to stealing, and is it in his character to do so. Or if so, how often would he do it?

2). If you get caught, prepare to suffer in-game consequences.

I trust you'll use common sense, but I don't like to say, "Don't do this" if it's something you could legally do.

Also, it's cool that you have three days of downtime a week, we'll manage. It might help if, say on Tuesdays, you PMed me the things Kavtan might do in certain situations. So, for example, if the characters were imprisoned somewhere, you might just PM me and say, "Kavtan will aid in any escape attempt and follow the other PCs." or something. But we'll work out the details on a case by case basis.

A second extinguisher is not anywhere near, at least not that Ninkanna can spot. Master Arkana, however, senses Ninkana's motive and tosses her the extinguisher she was holding.

"I need to go and help get the survivors away from this spacecraft - the ones that just got out are dangerously close. I don't think they understand the danger. Stay here and keep fighting the fire."

Master Arkana runs to the survivors, ushering them away from the blaze, and as Ninkanna and Kavtan continue to spray the engulfed areas with the extinguishers, the fire miraculously begins to die down.

---

Meanwhile, inside the vessel, the passengers have been evacuated and Si-Di has reached the cockpit. She ignites her shoto at the locking mechanism, and the door easily opens. She had not caught on fire, per se, but had been burned by her mad dash through the flames.

Inside, as expected, the two pilots are unconscious. The entrance, where the explosion occurred was dangerously close to the cockpit - if there hadn't been a wall between the cabin and the cockpit, it is likely that they would have been killed. However, it's unclear whether they were knocked out on impact, or if they passed out from the smoke in such a tight space.

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be an emergency exit - and while the Duros and Cathar outside are successfully fighting the fire, it's likely the flames could ignite the engine at any moment, and trying to get the pilots out through the passenger exit could be time consuming. However, the cockpit window is made of glass...though it's a good 5 foot drop from the screen to the ground.

(OOC: An update - Ninkanna has lost one vitality point for using Move Object and Si-Di has lost two from minor burns.)

Master Arkana and Ninkanna Sori head towards the fire, accompanied by Kavtan Cleentor. All three have gathered fire extuinguishers - shaped like oversized blasters, the devices fire a chemical agent rather than a blaster bolt. When sprayed, this agent puts out flames. The three approach the burning ship, spraying the inferno and managing to relatively contain the flame. But it quickly seems as though there probably isn't enough firepower (no pun intended) in your extinguishers to put out the flames. However, they are not spreading as rapidly.

Meanwhile, the few passengers who made it out of the ship are making their way clear of the landing pad.

(OOC: Ninkanna succeeds in her Move Object check and proceeds directly to the flames; Kavtan successfully Spots and grabs an extinguisher and aids in controlling the flames).

Meanwhile, inside the ship, Si-Di finds the hull to be well-enforced. This is a Corellian-built ship, chartered from Coruscent, and it is well-constructed. She has to push herself to at cut a hole in a timely fashion. Remarkably, the Jedi Consular seems to draw upon some kind of inner strength, and manages to put all her might into slicing through the hull. She succeeds, and kicks out a hole through which the passengers begin to exit.

(OOC: I did a strength check - Si-Di isn't very strong, but you rolled a 19 - a spectacular success, she slices through the hull is very little time).

Si-Di then turns, scanning the space between her and the cockpit door. There are flames in the way, but not so much that getting there would be impossible. She stretched out with her feelings, and senses very strongly that there are two living beings inside, but unconscious.

(OOC: Another 19! and with your WIS modifier, it's a 23, you get a pretty clear sensation of two lifesigns, and can even sense their unconsciousness).

Meanwhile, inside Klebb's cantina, Lysander witnesses the events through the cantina window...the shock of the explosion resonated into the bar, and several patrons have gotten up to look. However, the two Arcona who just walked in are strangely unshaken, merely whispering to each other. Except for the two of them, all the other patrons have walked over the window, or have gone out onto the landing pad to see closer. The two Arcona merely lazily walk over to the window and study the unfolding scene.

Both of them whisper back and forth, seeming very concerned. One of them seems to have some kind of electronic device in his hand, and the other seems to be gesturing wildly at him. Their backs are turned to Lysander, however, and he can't make out what they're saying...

The normal exit is blocked, but only by flames. There is possibly an exit through the cockpit, but your character has not been in the cockpit, and thus, would not know.

Seven passengers are trapped inside the cabin, aside from Si-Di: a Rodian mother and her child, two Duros, a middle-aged Human male and two Trandoshans who look to be miners. In addition to this, the fate of the two pilots in the cockpit is unknown.

Subject: Master Arkana

Master Arkana shakes her head.

"We cannot bother with that, my padawan. As important as our mission is, if saving a single life costs us our secrecy, I am satisfied." Master Arkana closes her eyes, then uses the Force to summon a fire extinguisher from a tool kit lying next to one of the ships docked at the station. As it flies into her hand, she opens her eyes again and addresses her apprentice. "We cannot be sure of anyone's involvement. I wasn't aware that Master Allum was coming...but we have no choice now, but to save his padawan and the other passengers trapped inside."
