Subject: At T'Sal's request . . .

. . .Trillian gave little thought to his action. He pulled the arrow fletching to his cheek, took aim, and fired at the trunk of the tree.

It was only when he fired the arrow that he took notice of the tree more closely. The mighty oak was not an oak at all, but something more. He noted the shape of the vines on the tree branches and their strange resemblance to a hangman's noose. No, this was certainly not a pristine oak!

The elf cursed at himself as he pulled another arrow from his quiver and fired again at the tree. Of everyone in the party, Trillian knew that he, as an elf, should have noted the strangeness of the tree. Instead he had been careless and now Rat and T'Sal were in grave danger. He drew another arrow and fired. . .

Trillian will continue to fire arrows at the tree until Anvil directs him otherwise. He will keep his distance from the tree unless a party member is in mortal danger at which point he will change his actions.

Subject: Watching the perimeter. . . .

Trillian watches as T'Sal crumples to the ground and begins to the ground. He re-aligns his arrow at the tree, waiting for an attack, but nothing comes from the tree. The elf almost jumps and lets loose an arrow when a satchel falls from the upper branches.

He hears Anvil address Rat, but is unclear what he says. Whatever it was, Rat is now moving towards the tree, his eyes set upon the satchel. He notices Anvil and the others moving towards T'Sal.

Trillian has a moment of indecisiveness. Should he assist Rat in getting the satchel or should he go with the others to help T'Sal? Noting the two groups and his position, Trillian decided his best option was to work his way closer to Rat and protect the group's flank.

"I have you covered," Trillian says to Rat in an unknown tongue.

In the dwarven tongue, Trillian will say to Anvil, "Careful, I cannot carry all of you."

Trillian will keep a wary eye on both groups as they advance. He has an arrow ready to pull and fly at a moments notice. If anything attacks the group, he will fire an arrow at it.

I'll be brainstorming in the following lines, so just bear with it and pick out any useful information or point out inconsistencies it the conclusions:

Whatever took down T'Sal, I would think is NOT magical because of elven resistances to spells like sleep, charm, etc (though those may not extend to confusion and the like). If it isn't magical, then it is biological/poisonous and would probably fare poorly against someone with a high constitution.

I'm basing all of this on the putrid smell that we are taking in as we near the tree. It may be that we have all succumbed to it already, but T'sal was just the first to go down to it.

In conclusion, if you want someone to get the satchel, I'll do it, or I'll go get T'Sal. Or, point to a spot in the tree and I'll put an arrow through it! I'll wait for the boss's orders before I do anything though.

I have very limited access to the web. I will follow Anvil's lead. Covering the rear is my job, so I will do that with GUSTO!

Subject: Trillian jumps

. . .up from his wagon seat with his short bow still in hand. He eyes the direction the dogs were running, but it is not long before they are out of sight. He can still hear them barking, but not even his infravision can pick them out of the mist in the area. Perhaps they went down into the ravine, he thinks to himself. He does a quick scan of the surroundings and makes sure there is no movement towards the wagons from the forest before finally positioning himself facing the ravine.

In a language known only to a few, he says to Rat, "Watch the side opposite the ravine for any movement." He is sure only Rat will know the meaning of his words.

The elf waits in last cart with his bow out and an arrow ready to fly at the first sign of danger. He looks to Anvil and nods that he is ready for action and any commands the party leader may be ready to give.

Trillian will wait in the last wagon with a watchful eye all around. He has his short bow ready and an arrow nocked and will let it fly at the first sign of danger. He will stay atop the wagon for now to gain the height advantage and for a better vantage point to look around.

I pretty sure almost everyone is up to speed. Just waiting on SD to update and move the story along.

Enjoyable thus far, but hoping we pick up speed as we get accustomed to one another. I think the flow of the game will pick up once we get into the core of the adventure, so I'm looking forward to it.

I posted from the previous information we already had. Just assumed we were going with the marching order already posted. If anything changes, I will make the appropriate chagnes to the post.

Subject: The Adventure Begins.....

Morning had come early, and Trillian had been up before the first light. The life of a wizard was not an easy life. It was wrought with study, study, and then more study. He studied his magical tome until the magical weave was fresh upon his mind. With that complete, he went about the task of packing his belongings. All that he owned fit neatly into his backpack. His bulkiest possession was saved for last. He wrapped his spell book in his thick winter blanket and set it gently into his pack. One could never be too careful. He then went downstairs and to the front steps of the Bellyful Inn.

Trillian was amazed at the generosity of the townsfolk. They were truly behind the small group of adventurers and there gifts showed they all wanted the group to be successful in their endeavor.

Anvil Ironfist had been designated the party leader, and it was just last night they had gone over the marching order. Trillian assumed the order would stand even on the wagons. He stood by the center wagon to assist Rat and T'Sal into their seats before moving along to the third wagon to take his seat alone. He didn't mind being alone, in fact he was accustomed to it.

The elf climbed into the wagon and prepared himself for the short journey. He did not expect any trouble in route, but he knew one did not survive by assuming. He opened his belt pouch to make sure the rose petals were still present and intact for his spell casting should he need them.

With everyone ready to go, Trillian readied his shortbow by stringing it and then pulled an arrow from his quiver. His back pack was at his feet, easily accessible and easily picked up should he need to exit the wagon quickly. The elf gave a nod to Anvil that he was ready to go and then one to the wagon driver.

Trillian has selected Sleep as his spell for today. He will try and find a position where he can look towards the front of the wagons and the rear of the pack. If that is not available to him, he will opt for watching the rear with only occasional glances towards the front.

Subject: spell coordination

It may be a good idea to coordinate what spells we memorize. Since we only get 1, it would probably help to be diverse on that front.

I don't mind picking a defensive one if you want to go offensive. In fact, since I'm covering the rear, I'd prefer it that way, but it is really up to you.

I'll post on the main thread to role play the suggestion.

SD, I think I had asked you previously about my familiar, but never got a response.

I would assume that T'Sal and myself had already summoned familiars by this point, but that is your call.

The creature will stay with you as long as it lives, unless you mistreat it or dismiss it.

It's main benefits are to the caster who gains whatever hit points the creature has as his/her own. The caster can also communicate with the creature.

The drawback is that the creatures are typically small, non-offensive animals that will get easily squashed if they get hit. This doesn't sound too bad to the strong hearted, but the caster suffers when that happens. Most casters are very protective of their familiars.

Degotti, shoot me an email (its in my profile) and I'll send you the spell description.

Topic: Q & A Oaks Heart
Subject: Trillian

Trillian is the son of a Priest of Erevan Ilesere, Elven God of Mischief and his mother is a Wizard. Not wanting to expose Trillian to the chaos of his father's lifestyle (Erevan's clerics never worship him in the same place twice), Trillian's mother decided magical study was his best course.

Not willing to argue with his stern wife, Trillian's father agreed and sent him to train in the Art.

It was while studying under the tutelage of the Elven Mages, his mother among his teachers, that he briefly met T'Sal. They only have a passing acquaintance because T'Sal was a bit more advanced than Trillian when she passed through his homeland.

Trillian does not have the elitist attitude of most high elves, but is loyal to his family and his people as a whole. Due to his mother and father's positions, Trillian is comfortable in social situations and knows much about other cultures and races, even a few of their languages.

Trillian has been sent out by his Wizard magisters to further his training. Trillian is approaching the idea of adventure as a means of scholarly pursuit. He knows a lot about realms, but he also knows that only so much can be gained from reading, you have to experience them too.

ALL--I vote for Nomad to be our party leader.

Not sure how the new rules treat them, but there are good Dark Elves. They are the exception though, and not the rule in most games.

I've heard rumors of surface dwelling good Drow (or at least not evil, Lloth serving) in the realms of Faerun (The Forgotten Realms).

Degotti will have to divulge T'sal to us as he sees fit. Good thing about this party (or bad depending on how you look at it) is there are no humans. We are just a collection of elves dwarves, and a halfling.

Topic: Oaks Heart
Subject: Trillian hears the commotion outside

With his morning study complete, Trillian stood and stretched away the stiffness in his muscles. He was accustomed to long hours of study, but in a setting more in tune with his needs as a wizard. The Bellyfull Inn was a nice place, though not one suited to Trillian's scholarly pursuits and certainly not suited to his many study notes, carefully scribed on sheets of parchment.

He gathered the parchments and placed them in his scroll case. Some mysteries of the magical realm would have to wait until after breakfast. He certainly was hungry and the smell of breakfast was wafting up from the kitchen to his room. It was then he heard the Oaks Heart alarm.

The warning bell was ringing and a look at his window saw townsfolk scrambling for safety. The local militia quickly gathered and made its way to the front gate. Trillian, not one to miss an opportunity for adventure, quickly put on his robe and shoved his belongings into his backpack. If this was the start of an adventure, he would not be caught unprepared. He scooped up his weapon and headed out of the inn.

In his careful preparation, Trillian had missed all of the action. All he could gather from the locals was a few of the town loggers had run afoul of something and were killed while outside of the town gates. The mayor had announced a gathering on the steps of The Bellyfull to soothe the townsfolks fears and give them information on the situation. If there was ever going to be an opportunity for adventure, Trillian was sure he would find it here.

He had come to the town with a trading caravan, one week past now. While he found the town culture interesting, he longed for more up close and personal study of the area. Fortunately, Trillian was wise enough to know that partaking in such a task alone would be foolish. No, if he was going to experience all that Oaks Heart had to offer, he was going to do it in the company of others.

There was no need to go any further than the steps of the Bellyfull if the mayor was coming shortly. So Trillian looked around for a suitable spot to wait. Perhaps other adventurers would be interested in the loggers' plight and he could join them. He noticed a rather large dwarf, if a dwarf could be considered large, waiting on the steps. The dward had the look of an adventurer about him.

Trillian made his way over to a spot beside the dwarf and speaks to him in the Dwarven tongue, "Greetings, my name is Trillian Lightgrove," he says with a bow. "I missed all the morning commotion, any ideas about what has happened to those poor loggers?"

Trillian will move over beside Anvil and introduce himself. He will speak to Anvil only in the Dwarven tongue unless Anvil requests they speak in Common. Trillian will then wait for the mayor to appear and here what has befallen the loggers.

I posted a link on the D2 site for an online PHB. I'm coming up short of actually finding a spell list and even that same book again using Google.

I did find a nice Spell List generator that could probably give you some idea of what you wanted. It has descriptions and such, but I know you are an experienced player and probably already have an idea of what you want.

PM me and lets try to coordinate what spell(s) we have learned. Could be a deadly combo if we mix it up a bit. Of course, SD may make us wait until we actually know each other before we can do that.
