Will get my roll up done and character submitted to you by Friday SD.

What class is everyone running may I ask so I can fill in any gap? We got a thief (Consortium), mage (Degotti), cleric (Hammer), and fighter (Nomad).

Think I will join the fray as a .... still not sure. Need to look over the PHB and manuals to see what gets my interest.

Well, since someone else is playing the cleric, I'm free to choose another class. I'm waiting to hear from SD what is allowed and not allowed before making a selection.

I naturally lean more towards magic classes, so will be looking at my options there. Another druid is not out of the question though, but I have told SD that I will shore up any weakness the group may have once everyone else picks what they want to run.

New characters or old characters...doesn't matter to me. I do like starting at 1st level though, helps you "grow" the character.

Guess I'm the only one that is glad we have had a hiccup in the posting. My CPU crashed last Saturday. I just got around to fixing it today.

These little pauses happen from time to time with this type of game. Hope the lot of you stay interested until Trip gets back up on the DM horse and gets his real life stuff fixed.

Hope all is well Trip, and great job so far!

Subject: Off to the Temple

The group was a bit confused and dazed by the hermit's response. They just looked at one another unsure of how to respond.

"To the temple?" Valerus asked and was greeted with nods from everyone. There original destination was now the only place for them to go before meeting up with the other group to discuss what they had learned from today's excursions.

The hermit's words were cryptic at best and Valerus thought of them as they walked. The young druid moved up beside Kyuss and said, "He speaks in riddles, which is not uncommon for druids as you well know. My old master was quite adept at it. Still, I'm not sure what to make of the old man. Is he one with the land? A wizard? How is he watching us and how can we earn his trust?" It appeared their trip to unravel some quesions had only produced more questions.

The party passed the inn and walked along the north side of the lake. Valerus noted the buildings they passed and wondered what answers, if any, they would find at the temple.

Alright, seems like the Temple is the next logical step. I'll make the post if no one has anything else to do at the hermit's place.

For the avatar, scroll down and click view/edit your profile (blue link at bottom of page). It will take you to your profile information, then click on edit user profile. Find the Avatar box and pick one out. They have halflings on there, but I didn't bother to look and see if any were decent or not.

Subject: Da Weasel

I have a charm animal spell, but it has a 1 round casting time as well as a few other stipulations attached to it that would make it a bad idea. If this man is a wizard, the spell will be useless if this is his familiar. Second, if he is a druid or retired ranger, then we should not have a problem warming up to him. I'm hoping my high charisma will get us a favorable reaction and we can just question him. Unless he is evil, then we will have to break out da clamps!

Subject: Greeting the Hermit

Not wanting to frighten the old hermit, or incite him to action, Valerus waves for the party to halt. Kyuss stands firm as the young druid comes to his side and is soon flanked by the remaining party of Haiden, Severus, and Stings. Valerus hopes to show the old man they have nothing to hide, and he has nothing to fear from the party.

"Greetings, my name is Valerus Cain, servant of Beory, and these are my companions. I wonder if I might have a bit of your time to ask you a few questions?"

Valerus will wait for the old man's reaction before proceeding. If the reaction is favorable, I will post my questions from the Q&A Thread. If I sense the reaction is unfavorable, I will attempt to soften him up with a few questions about the ancient elms and surrounding plant life.

Subject: Hermit

I'm sensing this man is either a wizard or a druid. The weasel as a familiar or friend is my indicator. I will make a post asking him a few questions, but want to get some other ideas from the group. The questions I have in mind are:

1. Do you know of the troubles with the townspeople?
2. Have you noticed a change over the past few months?
3. I see you have a pet, have you noticed a change with
any of the animals lately?

If he opens up a bit and I see a friendly reaction window there, I will probably proceed with further questions.

4. The innkeeper doesn't seem to fond of you, do you two
have a history?
5. Know anything about the mayor of this town?
6. What can you tell me about the temple and the priests?
7. Do you know any of the people that have left town and
returned?

Anything else you guys can think of?

Subject: On over to Elm Street

With lodging now secure for the night, Valerus goes back down the stairwell into the common room of the inn. His party is still sitting at the table and to Valerus's discerning eyes each of them look ready to leave.

A confirming nod from each party member leads the druid to bypass the table and head towards the door. His companions follow suit and get up from the table to leave. Kyuss strides to the front followed by Haiden and Severus. Stings was moving a bit slower than the others, but Valerus knew he was only making sure no one followed the group of adventures to the elm grove.

Once all of the party was outside and half way between the inn and elm grove, Valerus stopped the group. Stings and Haiden tell him of the young boy and the strangeness of a few other patrons. The words "charmed" and "bewitched" are tossed around in the group leading Valerus to make a defensive minded strategy for entering the elm grove and meeting the hermit. "Kyuss, will you be so kind as to lead us? I will follow you with a spell ready to thwart any charms if it will be needed. We know nothing about this hermit, but it is better to be safe than dead. Haiden, you and Severus stay in the middle and look for anything out of the ordinary. Stings, you cover our flank and let us know if we are being followed or watched by anyone."

The young druid then reaches up to his neck and grasps his holy symbol, an earthen disk, that is strung around his neck. The others know he will call for the aid of his goddess should danger present itself to them in the grove. "Alright, lets be careful," a nod to Kyuss lets the ranger know he is ready to enter the grove.

Valerus will go with group 2 to the elm grove in the following order: Kyuss, Valerus, Haiden, Severus, and Stings. He will also prepare to cast Protection from Evil upon Kyuss if he senses an imminent act of hostility as they enter the grove.

Subject: Some of these people

Alright, some of the people in this town are just weirding me out. I say we head out to the old hermit and try to get to the bottom of this. My druid isn't an inn type person, but he is a people person and this is a bit strange to him.

If all are in agreement from my group, we'll pack up and head out. I'll make the post once I get group approval.

Subject: A new party member

Severus explains to the druid that he had been waiting for the party of adventurers to come to town. Glad to have another member in their group, the party sits at breakfast and enjoys the comraderie. Valerus explains to Severus all they have experienced thus far. There was little to tell except of the damp two day journey to Orlane, and the brief meeting at the town entrance.

"We have gotten very little information from the townspeople," Valerus admits to Severus. "I do not believe they are withholding anything, but I'm convinced they know very little about the events unfolding here. Of course, we have not spoken to everyone. Perhaps we just need to find the right person for the lead we need at getting to the bottom of this mystery." Valerus then tells Severus the other group with them has gone to speak with the mayor. "Our group was supposed to travel to the temple," he says rather sheepishly. "As you can see, we have gotten a bit distracted."

The group continues to chat and eat, and Valerus waits until he can get the friendly innkeep's attention. When she approaches he requests 3 rooms for his large party and discreetly slips her 10 gp. "If there is need of more, I or my friends will make up for anything lacking," the druid says with a smile. "I simply love those ancient elms to the east, are there any rooms that overlook them?"

Valerus will request 3 of the the party guest rooms (8 sp per bed rooms). He will also request a room overlooking the grove of elms and rooms with windows.

Subject: I'll wait for Stings

I'll wait for Stings to make a post on the Orlane thread before I make a post about us moving on. I will however make a post about securing lodgings and food for the evening with the innkeeper.

If I'm understanding the group correctly, we will wait for Stings to approach the young man and glean any information he can from him. Then we will head to the grove of elms and look for this mysterious hermit. Then, if time allows, we will head to the temple.

Since we have not heard from the other group, I'm going to make sleeping arrangements for everyone here at this inn. If the other group decides they want to stay at the other inn in town, I'll just take up the monies owed with the innkeep.

I say we wait for Stings to do what he is going to do or not do with the young boy that keeps staring and then head out towards that pack of elms.

Before we do that though, we should probably go ahead and secure rooms for the evening.

At some point, we need to make it over to the temple also

Subject: Friendly Guest

"Pardon me gentlemen, may I have a moment of your time?" the guest asked with a plate in his hand.

Valerus turned to see the inquisitor. It was a welcome change from what they had experienced thus far. They had approached everyone else in town, with the exception of the innkeeper, and now someone was approaching them. The druid looked over the the man non-chalantly. He wondered if this man was a townsperson or simply a visitor. He would have to find out. Perhaps entertaining the man would answer some of Valerus' questions.

The druid slides over on the bench and offers the man a place at the table beside him.

"But of course, my name is Valerus Cain, servant of Beory. Who might you be?"

Valerus offers the Severus a seat beside him, quite confident his companions will be on the look out for anything suspicious.

I have both proficeincies, but I'm also the lone healer of the group. Not sure what the mages have in their little bag of tricks. Once we get settled in the inns after all the exploring is done, we should come up with a few contingency healing plans as Shadowdragon suggested.
