damn this one's been rough, but i think i see the light at the end of the tunnel now. going to review everything tonight on all my fronts(Hammer, Darque) and will try to post updated info to all concerned around lunch tommorrow. hope the delay hasn't bummed everyone out to much. anyone heared out of abraxis still waiting on his character if noting soon might change my mind on letting him in. agreed?

Subject: at the wagons

"hail to you Anvil! Welcome back!" says the young woodsman. As the group approaches you notice that all the wagons are whole but there are only five woodsman present. the three drivers and two of the younger lads. all 5 have weapons out and are peering down both forks. 1 young lad speaks up "Carus split us up when we started getting into this smoke. Hard to tell where it's coming from. He took a couple of men and went toward the camp and sent the others down the road toward the bridge. i guess about 10 minutes ago. we've been seein' shapes in the woods and things seem to be moving about but nothings come out yet and no one has come back."

The smoke is everywhere and is getting thicker, common sense tells you that there is a major fire somewhere near. You can see dark shapes moving around what appears to be the wagons but visability is getting worse. there is a lot of movment in the surrounding woods as well although the forms are just dark shapes. Infravision allows you to pick out 4 fiqures in the wagon area but they are ill defined as the heat from the smoke is causing not only interference due to it's heat but also making eyes water and sting. The voice is most certainly human and seems to be afraid, it seems unlikely that anyone has seen you directly more like the voice is calling out to it's surroundings due to the sounds and movements in the area. it's hard to really pinpoint anything in the woods though could be most anything from woodland creatures to something more sinister or just the trees and underbrush moving from the waves of heat and smoke. your infravision does not help in locating the direction of the fire. you guy's are still on the outer edges of the smoke but are quickly getting enveloped as it gets worse.

Subject: forced march

And so our brave adventurers start a quick step after the wagons, the road is easy traveling and they make good time. after they finish the long straight trek the come to the turn and the smell of wood smoke comes on thick as the woods start to cloud with a fog of smoke. it's not long till they come to a fork in the road and can just make out the wagons sitting in the road. the horses are neighing nervously and sight is limited as the smoke thickens and starts to cut down visability. A shaky voice yells out "who goes there!!"

The wagon trail is very obvious it's more of a road now anyway due to the traffic over the last few years. distance to town is a fair walk for stubby legs and might have to spend the night in the woods before you get back you have no idea how far the logging camp could be. I will work Abraxis in when i feel the moment is right so it may take a little while before he's brought in.

Subject: there and back again

Anvil takes a quick look at the spear and notices that it is not great craftsmanship, most likely orcish, but hey a free spear is a free spear. The hurried trip back is uneventfull and as you start the climb up the hill to the top of the ravine you can hear the crack of a whip and the shouts of the wagoneer. As you make it out of the woods and back onto the road you just catch a glimpse of the last wagon as it dissapears into the woods in the distance down the road.

Subject: the satchel

As the group recovers from there adventure Rat noses around the satchel. he examines the latch and the openings for any sign of possible traps and finds none. the case is as it appears. After Anvil gets the rather servicable spear he makes his way to the satchel. upon opening several items are discovered. Several well drawn maps show Oak's Heart in great detail as well as the surrounding lands. a red x is marked on a spot of the western wall with cicles drawn around 2 of the inner buildings. some what crude portraits of Finneous and the Ol' crook are also discovered. A large red scroll case with a wax seal of a black hand(intact) is found along with a small black wooden box that is closed tight with a key hole on one side.

The little halfling puts on a show as he darts, dashes, and dives around and through the hanging vines. The hangman tree is ill equiped to attack such a small and agile target. The tree is not used to having to deal with anything that knows what it is, it gains it's meals more by suprise so it's no shock when Rat flings himself out from under the deadly branches to safety. The group gives a communal gasp as Rat, Anvil, And the cleric go through ther wave of dizziness. The odor dissappears as a vibration rumbles in the ground. As the group looks on the roots of the hangman tree come up out of the ground and the tree starts a slow crawl away from the group. The dogs are content that the threat has passed and take the time for a quick doze.

Hammer's charcter worships the dwarven god of war. this allows him to use a battle axe as his main weapon he also has a heavy crossbow. his spells are 1/magical stone 2/bless 3/command. I understand what you mean on the timing of posts thing it's a bit confusing to me as well i'm just jumping in when i think it's appropriate. was going to wait to see if any other group actions before i finish with Rat's mad dash. trying to have simultanious action by the group and Rat.

Subject: study time

you will have to study to relearn magic missle after it has been cast but with your intelligence your only looking at about 4 to 5 hrs of undisturbed study time so it is possible for you to cast 2 maybe 3 times in a day if the conditions are right. You need to give Anvil a break though he's used to women with facial hair.

Trillian's aim is true as the first arrow leaves his bow, whistles over Rat's head, and sinks solidly into the truck of the Hangman's Tree. Alas it is a small victory as he tries to recover from the effect of the mind altering airborne toxin brings about the dizziness and confusion that befell T'sal his second arrow flies high and wide as he is forced to a knee to steady himself.
Trillian will take 1 rd to recover and return to the battle

Subject: Rat Trap!!!

Rat rushes toward the satchel and the dogs go nuts. Barking and snarling they run toward the tree not heeding any commands. Rat makes it to the satchel and all can see the sudden terror on his face as he grabs the satchel and turns for his return trip. The dogs start jumping in and out from under the tree.
i will consult with Rat be PM on his combat as of this moment only T'sal can actually see what is occuring although the rest of you know the situation. The outside members may consult with each other as far as action is concerned but Rat at the moment will not be able to take part in group conversation.

The group gets no response as the different members offer there greeting. a slight breeze is the only thing that causes any motion in the branches. Nothing is visable in the upperboughs of the trees and nothing seems to be moving about in the surrounding woods. After a few minutes of talking toward the tree T'sal suddenly drops to her knees as her eyes widen in a look of confusion. She seems to be unable to regain her balance and composure.

1.) the footprints are broad but not very wide spaced somewhat deep with longish toes.

2.) the spear appears to be stuck into the ground but does not appear to have been thrown with force. fairly vertical.

3.) all appears normal about the the tree except for the strange odor emmitted.

Subject: after the dogs

Carus gets his men started on the wagon and eyes the woods warily. "Well wait a spell but not long after the wagons fixed. I need to check up on my other workers and they need these supplies. If you make it.....uh I mean when you make it back here if were gone just follow this road it splits in about a mile or so take the right fork and you'll find us. Please get those dogs back I don't want to see my friend grieve." with that he starts yelling out instructions and puts 2 men on watch.
The group heads off into the woods. the dense foliage only allows for single file formation. The fresh trail of the dogs is not to hard to find as you begin your decent into the ravine. the land does get steeper as you go and sharp rocks jut up from the ground like broken teeth. In a matter of minutes the sight and sounds of the wagon train are lost to you as the fetid mist clings to each of you quickly making your clothing damp and rank. you decend a couple of hundred feet into the ravine and finally come to the bottom. a small stream runs a twisted path in front of you. signs of the dogs are readilly visable as well as signs of what they pursue. Footprints of a humanoid are left in the soft ground around the stream. As you follow the trail the sound of the Dogs barking and whining can be heard. Another 20 minutes passes as you struggle with the unforgiving surroundings the sound of the dogs getting closer with every step. Suddenly you come to a small clearing in the brush. and the land gently rises to a small hill. you can see Muffin and Sprinkles running and jumping around the outer edge of a large tree. A strange smell comes to your nostrils as you see the dogs bark and growl but at what you can not tell. The tree appears to be an older oak with large branches full of leaves. a slight movement can be almost seen in the foliage. a spear is stuck head first into the ground underneath the outstretched branches.

The dogs went down the ravine in the evil side of the woods. visability is about 50' normal vision due to the misty fog that is hugging the ground in the ravine your infravision is good and viable in the dim light conditions. From what you can tell of the dark woods the vegataion is mostly dense undergrowth under spaced out broken and twisted trees. kind of like an area that's been clearcut harvested after say 6 to 10 years. bow might be tricky if your going to try for speed as well.
