Topic: Oaks Heart
Subject: Oaks Heart

this is the begining of a new fill in game for the Duel II guy's so beware this might get graphic.

The isolated town of Oaks Heart is situated in a small valley next to a large mountain range many miles south east of Tilverton. It was founded many years ago as a logging and mining town and has become a haven for retired adventurers and ex-military types that wanted to have a little more personal freedom than the large cities allow. It is a small town thats population ranges from around 300 to 500 people with a wide range of races and cultures.

Oaks Heart is surrounded by a large wooden pallisade and has the following features:
1.) a large sawmill run by Carus Dorn, a large friendly man that believes in hard work. He was an adventurer in his youth and is allways willing to share a tale or two.

2.) a large central inn called the Bellyfull owned and operated by an ancient Dwarf known lovingly as the Ol' Crook

3.) various stables and stockyards that house the mules used for skidding logs, as well as, sheep, goats, and some few hogs

4.) a full line blacksmith and armourer shop that employees many making saw blades and weapons for the residents

5.) a hide tanner and leatherworks area devoted mainly to suppling the local industry

6.) dry goods and mining supply store

7.) woodworking and wagon making facillity

other places pop up from time to time depending on who is drifting through and once a month a caravan usually stops in bringing a carnival like atmosphere to the town.

the mayor of Oaks Heart is a kindly old man named Finneous Brassile. an odd fellow with a strange twinkle in his eye. very revered by the older generations(especially the retired adventurers) his main confident is a rarely seen dark elf called "Whisper" that oversees the local militia and patrols the areas around Oaks Heart.

Due to the mix of population in Oaks Heart several gods are represented here. first and foremost among these is Silvanus who has a nice temple devoted to him and a strong following in the town. Shrines are also devoted to Mielikki, Tempus, and Tymora. to a lesser extent Beshaba, Ilmater, and Malar.

Oaks Heart is no stranger to strife. many monsters live in the forest and mountains surrounding this town and Oaks Heart is under constant threat.

starting at first lvl is fine with me if that is what all wish. as far as characters go i'm o.k. with most anything 2nd edition has some good optional rules for making up new classes. I don't do level restriction or class restriction due to race, IMO it's a fanatsy world so most anything is possible. i will be using the forgotten realms world since that's the only one i have much info on and don't want to take the 3 months of work to complete a whole new world. if you need any info on gods and such email me at [email protected] and i'll answer what i can or pm me here. i've got to learn how to set this all up on here and open a new thread for us. hope to start that by end of the week. 1 character per person should be fine for now and i'll accept your current character if you wish to run them. 5 or 6 people is enough for me anymore and it can get a little bogged down. just state your desires and give me an idea of what you wish to run and i'll get you your #'s. looks like we will use the same character sheets we've had.

hey guys, i've been working on an adventure for the last week or so and have just about completed it. it was originally for 3rd to 4th lvl characters but i could dumb it down for the group and try to blend it into what has already transpired or maybe Trip could mail me a copy of the module and i could run it. i used to play A LOT in the 80's and early 90's so i might stumble a little at first but should be able to fall back into it if anyones interested. might take me a little while on inital setup if i use what i have due to my plans for playing in the forgotten realms setting and having to change some of the encounters and such. everyone just voice your opinions and let me know.

i agree let's hot foot it to the temple and let them snub us too. i've got a feeling that this towns dirty little secret is going to take some serious detective work.(probably at night)when we get through i think we should head back to the inn and let a few of us sit and watch the locals and a couple go out the windows to watch the comings and goings at the hermit's and the temple.

Severous didn't much care for the situation and could tell his group was on edge. he looked hard up into the trees to see if anything lurked above before devoting his attention to the man.

he will be using his spellcraft prof. while watching the man's lips and hands hoping to notice if any spell is being cast. if any attack comes he will respond with magic missle spell.

I doubt he say's much. from the initial meeting he will probably have to be won over before he talks much. the questions sound good to me but if he won't respond i have a suggestion for our druid, it could be risky but don't you have some kind of animal friendship or charm. if you can win over the weasel you will probably win him over too. as stated i will watch for him casting a spell but i will leave the posting for our leader unless you want me to state my intentions myself.

the weasel might be a familiar or he might just be friendly with animals. i think it best that we kind of fan out. have the druid and ranger out front to ask questions both asking to keep him from focusing on just one. i have spellcraft Prof. so i'll watch to see if he casts any spells and keep my magic missle ready.

let's go with some serious caution though. these people must be under some type of charm or drug. i say we use our powers of observation on all the enthralled people as we exit the inn, try to notice any thing they have in common with each other. type of clothing, jewlery, marks on thier bodies, color of eyes, etc... something that might give us a heads up. also suggest that any full elves in our party be first in the marching order. i think they have some resistance to charm(i could be wrong i'll have to pull out the player's hb when i get home)

Subject: rooms

i concur with the general ideas for action but as for the rooms we need to decide if we want to all stay together in 1 or have private rooms. which ever we do i vote for a room at the end of a hall with a window for a speedy escape if it becomes needed. i can cast alarm on the hallway when we sleep to help give us some warning. also a window would allow the stealthy ones of us to do a little spying from the roof top and see whats going on with the hermit at night.

it does NOT absorb damage it just lasts untill 9 points of damage have been taken? uou still take those nine points. it just gives you a better armor class til then.

it works great for Severous, his AC went from 7 being unarmored to a 3 with his dex. is good for spellcasters and thieves. it's a fire and forget spell it doesn't have to be maintained. so if we hole up in the room for a day or so Severous could study hard and cast it on a couple of people. You don't have to be healed if you don't get hit!!

well the only thing i,ve got that might help is the armor spell. anybody not wearing armor i can cast it on and give them a base AC of 6 plus whatever dexterity bonus. it doesn't absorb damage but lasts till 9 points are taken. i'll have to check with Trip, but i think i can cast it on anyone.

that's going to become a problem. anybody have herbalism as a prof.? if so we should start looking for herbs and such and premake bandages, that will help in a pinch. if the temple is friendly we might want to get some form of holy water as well.

Severous walks toward the new arrivals with as warm a smile as he can muster. "Pardon me gentlemen, can i have a moment of your time?"

if well received he will confim thier names with his list and explain how he came to be here and his intentions of joining the group. he will also offer to by them all breakfast and hope to have a conversation about what they have encountered to this point. he will suggest taking a look around the inn and the adjacent trees.

hey Trip I'm having a blast. i think it will be much better with fewer players anyway. if you want to give a time to meet on here and get in an hour or two of some serious play i'm ready. would really hate to see this disolve into just a hack and slash i'm enjoying the mystery. but i'm for whatever the will of the group is. maybe those that have give up can disappear like the townspeople.

i guess i need to write a little bit about severous meeting the group and something about where i'm from. i agree with the trees, it would be good to look around the inn if this is where we're going to stay. i would like to see what the access to the windows is from the ground and from any overhanging trees. give us an idea of a possible escape route too in case we need it in the middle of the night.

hopefully soon i will be an offical group member. just wanted to suggest something for when we all get back together. how about the Ranger and Druid with a little muscle as support do a perimeter check around the town. their. skills in tracking and woods lore could be put IMO to better use looking for trails and signs of possible "enemy activity" on the outskirts of the town. this could be done while the more charismatic members do more interviews and fact finding.

Severous thinks to himself as he picks up his plate and strolls to the window to eye the new arrivals.he takes pains to stay out of anybodys sight from outside. no point in advertising he's here. he will attempt to listen to any conversation the newcomers have with the woman, hoping to hear a name he is looking for. if noticed he will nod politely and withdraw.

Severous Thane massaged his head to ease the pain. "stange feeling this drunkeness. I shall have to reconsider the next time somebody tries to buy me a drink" he grumbled to himself. the last few days were still a blur in his mind. He could still recall his master tossing him out on his ass from his tower. it had all come crashing down when his master had caught him breking into his personal library. "all in aquest for knowledge" he chuckled to himself. since then he had wandered for sometime before taking up residence in this tiny pisshole of a town. he didn't like it much here. "people always eyeing me funny" he thought as he went about gathering his things together. he would have to move on soon. "well at least nobody stole any of my stuff. now to find out exactly where in the nine hells i am" he whispered to himself as he shouldered his pack and opened the door.

It will take me some time though. I stayed late at work to let everyone know i'm commited but i will not really be able to participate till next week sometime. i'll keep checking in to stay updated on the story and to let you all know my time schedule when it becomes clear. hope to finish out my character later tonight and i'll get back with the details.
