"Aurora, that's a lovely name. I am Miliani Aelorothi, and you make a very good point. We can chat and move at the same time, and I'm all for not getting caught." Miliani took one last look around and headed through the one open doorway that seemed to allow her to move away from their former place of imprisonment. As the light faded behind her she still could see very well in the dark. Miliani called back over her shoulder to the other women as she walked,"As for me and how I got here, well my parents didn't like the path I chose, and so sent me here is their idea of some sick test for me. To prove that the brand of magic that I wield is worth a prestigious Aelorothi. I am guaranteed a place back at home if I escape this plane and can return alive but I'm not sure that is somewhere I wish to go any more. How about you Katsumi, or is your sordid past something you wish not to discuss?"

Miliani wasn't usually so talkative and she was surprised at herself that she just kept rambling on. Her kind was very long lived, however forty years was a lot of time to have no living companions. As she reflected on the idea of companions she realized that she had not seen Amon in a few days, and he was probably missing the connection that he got to the outside world through her. He would love a little adventure I am certain of that, Miliani thought to herself.

"I nearly forgot, I need to prepare myself in case something unfortunate befalls us in our travels. Do the two of you have a few minutes to spare so that I may summon some... help?" Miliani didn't really wait for them to respond she simply stepped off to the side and reached into her bag of holding producing a small box and a piece of chalk. As she opened the box she pulled out three small balls that glowed with the brightness of candles, a beautifully ornate dagger in the shape of an S, and an ivory chalice that seemed to have a soft ringing coming from it. She used her foot to clear an area about five feet in diameter then began to draw swiftly with the chalk. As she drew she chose three points and carved small notches for the balls to rest within the pattern. Once finished she took her dagger and made an incision in both of her palms and squeezed the blood into the chalice (+1 damage). Carefully she placed the implements down in front of her and sat on her knees speaking firmly into the air.

"Amon, The Void Before the Altar. Hear me and come forth." Suddenly a burst of black smoke burst from the chalk drawing, spewing forth vile insults at the binder. As the verbal tirade continued the shape of a wolf appeared but on closer inspection it could be noted to have the head of a ram and the tail of a snake. If one is looking close enough to notice these features as well, they also realize that it is merely an image and not material. As the beast speaks fire erupts from his mouth. Miliani stares unblinking at the wolf creature and he falls silent. After a whole minute of what seemed to be nothing more then a staring competition the beast bowed its head and succeeded to her, then vanished as quickly as it had appeared.

As Miliani leaned over to clean and put away her binding implements large rams horns sprouted from the side of her head and curl around once. She then stood and looked at the other two women (assuming they have not moved on with out her)and said, "Alright, I'm ready for the unexpected."

((OOC: Regardless of weather or not she has a successful pact Miliani chooses to keep the vestige sign for the benefit it offers in battle. Using the Implements of Binding also gives her a +2 to her binding check, making her EBL temporarily +14. I don't know if you want to roll or if I should to see if she is influenced by Amon now that they are bound.))

I was wondering, Dragon Mistress, what your character looked like?

Satya had not seen a table set like this since she was a girl at home with her family. It was much like the feasts she remembered. Only much more variety set before her. Her eyes wide with excitement and feeling more like a child now then she had in fifteen years a huge smile grew on her face with each plate that was placed in front of them. As the rest of the party spoke she took small portions of each thing she saw, savoring every new flavor. She watched intently asBailash returned with another book and showed it to Seluumiel. This Tiamat sounded evil and manipulative. Satya wondered who she was and what she looked like. The sight of an evil dragon queen sounded impressive and terrible.

"Well, Satya, it seems your travels and your involvement in the strange house was not an accident. It seems you were destined for greater things. The question is, are you ready to meet your destiny and join these fine adventurers?"

He allows himself a moment of deep thought then looks over the assembled group, "As the book says, Are such adventurers present and ready to undertake this task?”

Satya swallowed the bite she had been rolling around on her tongue and said, "I am an adventurer, and maybe now it is time that I take that even further and test my metal. I will go. I am not sure yet what I will have to offer, but I will extend what skills I have for the sake of the realms. Yes... I believe it is time to see just what it is I am made of. " This last is said half to herself as she reaches for a glass of wine and takes a large swig, then let forth a belch of contentment.

"I will sleep wonderfully tonight." Satya grins as she realizes that for once she feels like she is right where she should be and no one feared or hated her for what she was. Poor Lacy, I could not imagine actually being hunted simply for what I looked like, Satya thought to herself.

“I am Katsumi. I have been unaware of any changes of weather while I have been here.”

Miliani laughs a little and says "I was being just a bit silly. I haven't talked with someone in such a long time that I had no idea just what to talk about. So I simply said the first thing that came to mind. You seem to be a very competent woman. I am so glad to have found myself in the company of someone that can very obviously take of themselves."

Miliani is then distracted by another presence in the room.

"Why, hello there? You must have been our neighbor. Looks like we have all just been asked to move."

Miliani walks over to the other woman and offers her hand as she did the to the first woman.

For the sake of avoiding confusion Miliani tries to change as little as possible about her appearance. So at the point of discovery she looks much like a sun elf only with red skin that has a sheen to it. On closer inspection you will find it looks much like snake skin. Her wings and tail are gone for the sake of convenience of travel. Miliani is worried with all the falling rocks that they might get damaged or hurt. She is particularly fond of these two aspects of her body and takes extra special care of them.

I will do my very best for the sake of role playing to mention when ever there is a change in her appearance. I just figured that a point of reference would be helpful because her shifting can get confusing.

Subject: Oh joy, something new

Miliani was seated in the center of her cell meditating in front of a large design drawn in dust, when the ground began to shake. At first she was excited, she thought perhaps she had succeeded in summoning a new vestige. She had been working on it for months, and a smile lit her face as pieces of debris began to fall around her. When no voice spoke to her, and no image came, she knew the shifting was due to something completely unrelated. The rumbling grew louder as she could hear large stones crumbling and falling in the distance. Their tremors radiated through the ground underneath her. She stayed perfectly still, her dark amber eyes taking it all in with the alertness of a fiend ready to spring out of the way if the ceiling decided to cave in on her. Suddenly a part of the wall pealed away revealing a room lit with candles on the other side of her cell.

After the earthquake ceased she waited. Most quakes of a large magnitude were often followed by smaller tremors, and of course now there were the seriously unstable stone walls lined with cracks in random places to be weary of. As she took several long deep breaths, and waited to see if any more stone would fall, she heard the sound of someone rummaging around beyond the fallen wall. Then the lights slowly dimmed. Her curiosity piqued Miliani slowly stood to her feet, adjusted her appearance so that her wings and tail were not visible, then walked towards the hole in the wall.

She saw a few lockers along the wall and other debris scattered haphazardly around the room. One of the cupboard doors was askew and she saw the gleam of her armor peeking out. With a giggle she stepped delicately over the rocks and took only a single step before realizing there was someone standing on the far side of the room watching her.

"Oh....hello." Miliani spoke in common as she walked over to retrieve her belongings. She took a moment to look over the woman. She was human and taller then herself. Her hair black and her eyes not unlike her own. She was pretty enough, for a human. "So, what were you in for?" She said trying to make small talk as she made sure that all her belongings were in tact and secured. She hadn't actually spoken to another living thing in over 40 years and the potential for conversation was nice, even if it was in common and with a human. Her mother would be disgusted. The thought brought a smile to her lips. "Strange weather we're having in here isn't," she giggled, then walked over to the human and offered her, her hand. She had read as a child this was custom in human greetings and said "I am called Miliani. And you..."

As the group walked into the house, and to the governors dinning room, Bailash kept looking at her with a silly grin on his face. It was the sort of thing that would be cute on a toddler, but on an aging man of easily 40 it was just, silly. Satya realized that her presence was often treated in such a fashion, and mostly by men. It made her a little uncomfortable, not knowing just what those looks entailed.

"I am from the Bedine tribe of Laasya, we make our home in the desert of Anauroch. I have chosen to leave my family and see the world as my parents did. After ten years of adventure and wanderings I found myself here in the south. I happened to find a courier ravaged by a forest beast and the only thing on him was this." She holds out the letter. "I felt that I should return it to the sender so that he would be made aware that his message was not received. It led me to your city gates were I heard tell of a young child that had mysteriously gone missing in the woods. With my skill in tracking and my experience in the wild I chose to set out for him right away. I managed to get trapped inside the house on the boy's trail, and that is where these adventures found me." Satya set the letter down on the dinning room table, next to where the man was standing. "The boy now found and the letter now returned, I feel my task here is done. Unless there be some other greater purpose for me having been drawn here?" The young woman looked around at all of them standing there in the dinning room, and wondered just why the forces of nature had guided her steps on to their path.

"I am not sure exactly what else you are expected to do here in town, but I have another mission that I believe to be of some importance now that we are here. Perhaps one of you may assist me as you wait."

Satya reached for her pack and produced a wax sealed letter. It is identical to the ones that both of the elven lady's received when first summoned to the town of Leaphaven. "I found a courier dead in the woods on my wanderings and this on his person, in tact. I know that these things when sealed like this can carry important tidings and I wished to return it to the sender so that he or she was aware that someone did not receive their message." She holds the seal out to them questioningly. "Do you know to whom this symbol belongs?"

Feel free to grill me in here for better understanding of the house layout. I am not advanced in the ways of technology so I am not able at this time to load an image link for you all to look at. It really is a simple building lay out though so it shouldn't be too difficult to work around. Unless I screw it all up royally in my explanation.

Aaron leaned over the desk and pulled the sketch of the Mingan family home out of the envelope. He unfolded it and left it on the table for all to see. It was simply drawn showing two entry points to the whole building. It was a two story rectangular building with one main entrance to the north and one private entrance to the south east. The north entrance faced the road into the heart of the city and the south east entrance was closest to the stables and the large neighboring vineyard. There were three X's marked on the map indicating were there were stairs to the second level and a circle in the middle of the building indicating the courtyard like set up where Banyan's father used to hold wrestling tournaments.

"There is unfortunately a lack of talented map makers in this town and this is the best that we can give you on such short notice. I am confidant however that the household layout is simple enough and will prove to be easy for you to navigate. The only thing not marked on this map is the location of the children's rooms. We do not know exactly where they are kept, however I believe that they are now living in one of the rooms of Bayan's brothers even Bayan's old room as well. They will be found on the Eastern side of the upstairs portion of the house." Aaron takes a piece of charcoal and marks on the map the location of the boys childhood rooms. "There are balconies that line the inside over looking the arena in the middle. So there is more then one entry and exit point possible. If anything is unclear please ask and I will fill in the holes as much as I am able. Also, as Banyan said before, if there is anything that you believe will aid you in this endeavor please ask and I will do what I can to accommodate you. I will be sure to send my men for three brats of about the same age, gender and size of the ones you are to abduct as your replacements. If that is the path that you so choose to take."

Aaron stands back from the table and allows the three men to gather around and discuss their plan of action.

Ardulace listens silently to the woman's story, then replies "I am sorry for thy troubles. Would that I could ease thy burdens. I apologize if I seem churlish, but this day has wearied me like no other has in many a year. I am normally a joyful person, but Chiron Po brings out all the worst in me. Still, I am grateful that thou dost not seek to murder me."

Satya was surprised at first at Lacy's kind words but as she spoke she began to understand the woman's strain and frustration. Satya knew to some degree what it was like to be on the receiving end of racism. As she walked in silence the conversation continued behind her. She was lost in thought, when finally the words turned foreign to her ears. She glanced back at the paladin and the boy as an idea crossed her mind.

The ranger maneuvered around next to the tall armored man. "I realize that you must have started off on the wrong foot, but consider this, the goddess Eilistraee could not exist if she did not have followers. She is a testimony that not all of her race can be bad. Do not be blinded, seek the truth, and it will be revealed to you."

Subject: How did I get mixed in?

As the six of them walked back towards the town Lacy continued on the way to chastise them. Satya is baffled as to how she managed to get pulled into the obviously deep wound that Lacy was nursing but finally something is said that touches a cord in Satya's heart.

Or you Satya, is there no shadow that haunts thy past?"

Once there is even the briefest pause in Lacy's tirade Satya says plainly "When I was young I killed one of my peers for calling me an outsider, my mother a whore and my neck better off snapped as an infant. I did not realize how much rage flowed in my blood then. Now I live with that mistake every day, and fear the uncontrollable beast that sleeps dormant in my heart. I was not asked to seek this boy I merely sought redemption for my past. I was not aware that you have all been traveling together for only a matter of hours. I am sorry for acting on misinformation. I was led to believe that they were your friends and comrades. What you say of your actions rings true and you need not fear to be yourself in my presence."

Satya did not expect the woman to truly care what she thought or even choose to acknowledge what she had said. She had been treated from the start with indifference at the very least by the half-elf, and she truly did not care what Lacy thought of her at this moment. The very thing that helped Satya contain the beast inside was to speak her mind and keep her feelings open to all that traveled with her. Communication was the key for their safety as well as her own. She did not have a connection with these people other then the life of the boy, which Lacy did play a key role in bringing home, and from the sounds of it Satya would be better off on her own once again after the boy was returned home safely. As they all continued to speak with each other Satya will slowly pick up her pace and walk out in front as a scout keeping an eye out for any potential trouble. She continues to listen to the conversations behind her until they turn into a language she doesn't understand.

Satya stayed on her knees as the boy awoke.

The boy's eyes fluttered and he stirred. He then opened his eyes wide at the beauty of Seluumiel and asked, "Are you an angel, pretty lady?" Satya smiled, it warmed her heart to see this young boy connect with the moon elf. He would make a great ally to the elven people knowing that one of them cared so much to find him and return him to his family.

Suddenly Seluumiel addressed her "Satya will you watch the boy for a moment? There are things that need attending." Satya slowly stood and took the boy's hand as the moon elf walked over to Lacy and they began to speak in another language. She could not tell if Seluumiel was angry but she did not seem at all friendly with the half elf. As they brought their conversation to an end Chiron stepped in, and he seemed even less friendly. "What in the world is going on?" Satya whispered to herself as she watched trying to gain a better understanding of the drama being played out before her eyes.

"Woman, drop your disguise. It is useless now. We know your true identity and you can no longer fool us. Whatever scheme you had brewing is foiled, you can stop your tails of dragons and other creatures. The only monster here is you..." He was all but fuming. What disguise? What scheme was he referring to? As Chiron continued to rage at the woman the pieces fell into place for Satya. Lacy was the same black elf that had appeared from behind the other door with the child in her arms. She had heard of this race of dark elves but had never seen one. If she had been given more time to examine the woman when she had stumbled through the door Satya might have thought her to be a shade and no good can ever come of them. Their whole race was made up of those willing to give up their humanity to become one with the shadow realm.

Lacy says with venom in her voice. "Thou art truly brave Sir Knight, a shining example to us all."

At this Satya can stay quite no longer. "Why do you insist on tormenting each other with these games!" Looking at the half elf she asks calmly, "You have hidden your identity all this time from your companions, given no explanation as to why, and then you expect him of all people to take your word when you have been so deceptive. An elf once told me that the life that you live bares the truth of who you are, not the color of your skin, nor the air of your fading words." Then turning to the knight, "Sir, she is goading you with her words and you are giving in to it. Keep a level head or you will risk injuring someone, and one day you will deeply regret it." This last is said with sorrow and knowing in her voice.

Satya then leans down to the boy "Would you like to go home and see your mother? I am sure that she is missing you very much." Satya looked at the others then said, "This can wait." She then proceeds to walk back towards the town picking her way carefully and making sure not to tire the boy out with her usually quick pace.

Subject: In the clear

Once out in the open Satya took a deep breath of the free air and felt the tension go out of her muscles as she made a point of putting some distance between herself and the house. Satya laid the unconscious child gently down on the ground at the edge of the clearing and tried to make sure that there were no life-threatening injuries.

Seluumiel knelt at her side and said "We are not out of the woods yet," the elf spoke softly as she looked up at Satya, "I have some ability in healing, I will do for him what I can."

Satya watched as the delicate woman gazed down at the boy with sorrow and uncertainty and quietly began to pray. The ranger had seldom seen things like this. It was so unusual to her that she stared at Seluumiel with rapt attention. She must be truly blessed in the eyes of her deity to be entrusted with the power to heal, the young woman thought to herself.

"Ten years I have been wondering, and every day I learn that there is so little that I truly know or understand about this world." Satya said this quietly so that the elf at her side only just heard the note of awe in her voice.

(Xavier)"So, we have the baby... Satya, I guess we should inform you, but Seluumiel and I... along with the other two in there... were commissioned to rescue that child. So, now that we have the opportunity before us, I believe we should take the chance to return them. Chiron and Lacey are strong.... I believe that we should make haste to return to the town. The governor will be wishing to see this child again. Those two will be able to handle themselves." Holding out his arms, he asks, "Shall we?"

At Xavier's words Satya reaches for her pack as she states,"I will go with you. It was in the town of Leaphaven that I was last, and I still have unfinished business to do there. It just was not as pressing as making sure that this child was found and returned home safely. Now I will be able to return this home safely as well." She then produces a scroll of paper with a wax seal on it. It looks very much like the ones that the adventures had received when summoned to Leaphaven in the first place. "Maybe you can help me return it to its sender. I am not from this part of the world and find I have difficulties when dealing with...written words."

There is a loud thumping sound from behind her and Satya turned her head as...

Not wasting a moment the paladin addressed them all, "Did every one else make it out safely? Is the child alright?"

Satya looked to Seluumiel for the answer to Chiron's question, when the sound of nimble feet approaching could be heard. She looked back to see their friend Lacy. She appeared to have been expelled from the magical beast just as it vanished from sight.

"Then, we'll use the third one to threaten him and get whatever joyful whatnot you want out of this. But must we really bring all three back in one piece?"

Banyan studies the young man, then says "You will learn that physical pain is only one form of torture. Learn to master them all and then you will truly honor your lady. Remember, death is a form of escape. To keep your victims alive for as long as absolutely possible is truly a feat and a tribute to the lady of pain. I know my brother well, and wish to torture him for a very... long... time. I have given you freedom to do what you like with those you cross, so long as you don't get caught, but the children are mine. I am paying you to insure that I have the perfect tool for torturing my brother, don't expect me to allow someone else to make my weapon their own. You of all in this room should understand that." Banyan says this with growing intensity and command that makes the guards in the room tense and alert.

"I'll agree with the mystery man over there. The job does seem a bit simple. But I must say, we seem a bit... stretched. Is it to be two against a fortress? I am no stranger to stealth, but I might appreciate a large ally. Preferably one who will stand before me in a fight, and is handy with a sword."

Banyan stands and faces the half-orc. "I mean no disrespect to your skill by offering you a job that seems menial. I simply knew that to secure my tools I needed a group with particularly unique skills."
