The war room was not terribly well lit. There were no windows for it was a room built under the fortress that Banyan called his home. The walls were decorated in tapestries woven in muted earth tones and displays of old battered weapons, dulled and dented from past conquests. The wood in the room was a darkly stained oak that helped to suck up any extra light that might stray past the edges of the focal point of the room. There were 6 slight corners in the seemingly round room. A single large table in the middle of the room with a chandler suspended from one of the beams that crossed over head was the only thing of real note.

There was a single envelope on the table and Banyan sat at the only chair in the room. He had two guards positioned on either side of him and two at the door. The ones at the door had their faces covered but the two on either side of him were familiar faces to all in the room, Aaron and Iago. Bayan's closest friends and comrades in arms. Iago was the weapons master and Aaron the commander of the City guard. They where with Banyan the day he took the city and they shared in the destruction of the family that once lived in their new base of operations. Iago was a disarmingly slender man with pale skin. He kept his head shaved and his facial hair trimmed short. Aaron on the other hand had dark skin and shoulder length dreadlocks. His skin marked him as coming from the desert lands of Calimshan. He stood over six foot tall and looked like he weighed about the same as three Iago's.

There were two other men in the room one a half orc, larger than most humans. His tusks were subtle, and extend about one inch from his lower lip. His skin the usual mottle gray of his race, and his hair an ebony matted mess. His skin was painted with inks and dyes in the tradition of tribal of voodoo priests, and bones, teeth and other knick-knacks hung from his body. Centered on his forehead, etched in black and red ink was an image of a third eye.

The other man also had black hair, with small horns protruding from the top of his head and his face completely obscured by a leather mask. Only the pink shade of his albino eyes could be seen. He wore gloves that covered his hands and studded leather armor that left no hint as to the actual shade of his skin.

Banyan was very handsome and built like a warrior, with hard steely blue eyes and dark curly hair. Women loved the chance to be with him, and men liked to try and kill him. "I know you are wondering why I have asked you here. You have each impressed me with your skills. Possibly even served me before in some fashion or another. Either way I feel that you are the perfect ones for the job I have planned." Banyan leaned over the table and picked up the envelope then tossed it to the opposite side of the table. "You all know about my brother and our... differences. I have spent the better part of a year trying to find ways to punish him for what he has done to me. I have had a revelation on how to reclaim what is rightfully mine, or rather Aaron has." He nods in the direction of his captain and lets him take the floor for only a moment.

"Korbin is a weak minded man. He has hung up his sword for the life of a diplomat. His children distract and poison his life. They..."

"are the key to his down fall." Banyan interrupts. "It is no secret that I dislike children. I feel that humans earn the right to be heard as they become adults and my brother gives his children freedoms that make them spoiled and fat. I want to infiltrate my dead father's home and retrieve his three mewling brats. The reason for which I have hired you must not leave this room. For my plan to work he must not know who has stolen them. Not yet, at least. You will find I have given you every detail that I know about my father's fortress. I do not care how many you kill to get to them but the children must come to me alive and in one piece." He says this last with a smirk and a knowing look at one of the men in the room. "As for the others you may encounter I do not care what happens to them so long as no one lives to identify you or connect you to me. You will each be richly rewarded in the fashion that you wish, money, weapons, women...men." With his last word he gives a knowing look at Iago who stares at the others with a dark hunger in his eyes, a lust hidden deep within that would make any secure man squirm under his gaze. For the briefest moment the men in the room all felt as though they had been just standing there in the nude while being appraised like a horse at auction. "I will leave the planning to you. Aaron will assist you with anything that you might need for the abduction. Good hunting." Banyan said as waited for the first of the men to speak.

As the other three people in the room reacted to the door knob Satya was still lost in her pacing, but when the woman screamed from the other room she snapped out of her trance. This was something that she understood. Danger, the fight, survival at all costs. She may have only just met those in the room but instantly she felt the beginnings of a bond form. Protect them, and herself so that they may find their friend and save the child. Her blood was pounding in her ears and she felt herself walking that jagged edge that seemed to split her in two.

"To arms! Something wicked this way comes!"

Hooking her heal behind the door, she attempts to slam it shut. Then rushes forward to lay the child on the table.
"Guard the door and ask me no questions! A dragon, its soul as black as its skin lurks beyond!"

Satya did not recognize the woman walking into the room, but there was a child in her arms, and from the sound of it a dragon behind her. The sight of the child broke Satya from the battle at hand. She put her Scimitar away and ran over to the woman to see if she or the child were injured. Then proceeded to help get the child out of the house and on to the grass in the clear and away from this wretched building.

"That you are quizzical to me, is intriguing. Where I am from humans that look like you do not exist. I mean no disrespect towards your appearance it is merely different from what I am used to. Many things in this part of the world are new to me. " Satya gave him a little smile then turned to see what Chiron was doing with the door parts. He seemed intent on making sure that they were disabled in every way possible. Satya shook her head at his attempts. If the house truly was magic then it would find a way of trapping them again if it wished to.

Satya took a long slow breath in then slowly exhaled. She was starting to get twitchy in this small confined space, with no sky over head, and surrounded by magic. She slowly began to pace.

((OOC As the time drags on she slowly picks up the pace unless there is something to distract her from her current situation.))

"All others have failed and I was the last. My spirit is bound here for my time is past. Unspeakable evil lies behind each door. Take care you don’t end up like others before. Five colors, five heads is all I know of your fate. If you must know more, ask the guardian of the gate. To what I have written you must take heed and I will record your actions, your words and your deeds. For in you must go. There’s no way to turn back. Defeat your greatest foe before he attacks. Are such adventurers present and ready to undertake this task?" Seluumiel read aloud from the book.

Satya listened intently to the words as Seluumiel read them allowed.

"That last part, is it meant for us?" Satya asked. She was not sure exactly what books normally sounded like but she was sure that last part seemed to have been spoken at those in the room.

"That seems to be a strange way for a book to talk. Does it know we are here?"

"Hmm... interesting. Good job propping the doors open. But... um, shouldn't we be moving a bit? I mean, Lacey could be in danger right now. And sitting around isn't going to save her. Isn't the whole thing about being a knightly order about helping those in need? Well, we have the child, and the Lacey right now."

"Satya, don't you agree with me?"

Satya stopped puzzling over the words spoken from the book and looked at Xavier as he directed his attention at her. She paused for a few moments thinking about what he had said then spoke, "I believe that it is important to know everything we can about this area before moving forward. Helping those in need is a priority, however taking care that we do not also end up in need of rescuing will insure that those in need of our help have a better chance at survival."

She hadn't gotten a very good look at the young man until now. His features were very different then any that she had seen before. He seemed so young to have such white hair. Satya tilted her head to one side and asked, "Do you not see the sun much or does your skin stay that tone no matter your exposure?" Even though she was no longer in the desert, most of her days were spent outdoors. It was rare that she ever crossed someone so pale that wasn't a scholar, or some fat rich diplomat, that tended to travel in a covered litter rather than the adventuring type like this man before her. "I find your coloring and manner most quizzical, it is... intriguing."

So just be sure to read over the character creation and back story parameters. They are listed on here and the related link "Sibling Rivalry" and give me a call or just post if you have any questions.

P.S. I didn't know Gwen thought of Idi as her best friend. I'm so happy!

"I am sorry but she seems very confidant in her path and I do not wish to put my own life at risk without knowing what we are up against. My only interest is to save the missing child and I do not think that risking my life will do that poor boy any good. I say we take the time to find out what we can from that map and book before we proceed. Unless you all feel that following your friend into the unknown to be a priority, then please do not let me keep you from her."

Satya stood dumbfounded at Lacy's aggressive nature. "She must wield great power or have little regard for her own life," Satya said in wonder after the half-elf disappeared beyond the doorway without a word or looking back. "I do not pretend to know any of you or what you are capable of, but I believe your friend to be in danger if left to explore the supernatural nature of these doors alone. I have learned never to trust the inconsistency of magic and even more those who wield it with no regard to the lives it destroys. I know that I am useless to the child dead, so I will await your choice before proceeding with my own investigation."

But I can't remember if I mentioned that he's wearing a mask that obscures his face... all except the eyes, with two slits for nostrils. His face is completely hidden.

And thank you for the name mentioning. I will research Loviatar.

So I have never been to Chicago personally but if I were in your shoes then I would be visiting Second City. Its a theater improv place. Kinda like Saturday Night Live only they pull people from the audience and stuff to get involved. I have heard and read that its an amazing experience. Very fun and funny.

I am not counting the applicants. If you want in bad enough and can get me the application needed, my approval to make a character, and the character info to me in time I will let you be in the start. So far I have only 2 people that have actually made it that far and 2 that are working on getting me their character info, and another that is working on creating a class that I am still negotiating with on how and if it will work for my game.

I limited it at first to 4 because of the nature of the first mission. Depending on who lives through it and how successful they all are in completing it there could be room for one or two more. However I can not promise just yet.

Best of luck to you and anyone else that is interested in this game.

I am a little confused as to how to post next. The very thing that Lacy seems to hear Satya say before she heads through the door was said only to Chiron and Xavier at the very discovery of her in the room, before Sluumiel and Lacy even attempt to enter, and Satya is made aware of their existence. After their entrance no further mention of the puddle or trail to one of the doors is made.

Just wondering if maybe I missed something in the story line progression.

Why don't you PM me your info on it so I can see if it will work. This game is set in the heart of Faerun so I would like to keep continuity with that. I'd like to see how much thought and research has been put into it before I can agree. Also you might want to check the related Q&A thread on this game. There is a lot of info on character creation already up.

It was brought up in the opening post.

...the sister of the missing boy, saw a black dragon.

The mother of the missing boy was hysterical.

"But my son is missing! This constable is treating our children like criminals and trying to hush them up like this is some fantasy that they concocted to get attention.
I believe there is a real danger outside the city gates and my son could be lost in it! Please, give these children the benefit of the doubt and do SOMETHING to find my son!"

and

While looking for the sender, she found out a child, a young boy of around 10, was missing from the murmurs and gossip whispered and clandestine talk about town.
