Subject: A little too happy...

A little too happy from the smell of his breath. New Orleans had its share of substances around Mardi Gras season.

"Nice to meet ya," he said, reajusting his crimson red glasses, "We'll have to show these people how to party I suppose."

He caught up to Dawn and asked, "You know, it does seem a bit...stuffy around here. Anything us new guys should know about the place?"

Hex wandered through the door behind the girl, and Edward grinned at the one with the bloodshot eyes.

"Sorry, she's convinced she's a lady. I'm Edward, and the elegant lady that just passed you is Hex."

Subject: Edward again

Edward followed along in silence, still wondering at all the magic around here. Even in New Orleans, it wasn't like this. He needed to snap out of it, though. Too much time was being lost, and he could use some new friends.

"Mind if I tag along? I'm a newbie here too, it'd be nice to have something of a guided tour."

His cat mewed in agreement.

Subject: Journey, Day 3 - The arrival at the temple

No one slept through that night, not after everything that had happened. Petraak the least, his natural protective instincts keeping him up, forcing him to keep a watchful eye over the companions. Judging by the map, they'd arrive at the temple the next day, and as the sun rose, they set out through the maze-like path that continued to close behind them. They were all aware of this, but unspokenly decided to cross that bridge when they came to it, and deal with it on the way back, perhaps with the dragon's aid.

They made it to the temple shortly after breakfast, and it looked every bit as if it grew out of the forest, and perhaps it had, in a way. A great, stone pyramid covered in brush and vines, with a tree growing through the center of it, rising out of the top of the pyramid triumphantly.

There was a door directly in front of them, hewn out of stone, with no handle or knob. This presented a problem? How to get in? A further look around revealed a pedestal at the top of a much smaller pyramid on the right side of the door, across from what appeared to be a giant lens. At the base of the pedestal read an ancient inscription - Call forth the gods of the heavens/that of ancient yore had riven/this temple out of stone/that we ancients call home

Above the door, there was also an ancient, ominous inscription, which Petraak read from the draconic runes - Only the pure shall pass this ancient door of stone, abandon hope, seekers of evil in this holy place

The crest above it was the same crest of Petraak's ancient order, which surprised him, was something in this temple a key to his peoples' homeland?

Breaking his concentration, creatures that had been following them leapt out of the forest, hissing at them with voices as the whispering wind in the trees. Bodies made of bark, and hair of leaf, these were the dryads the ancient dragon had warned them about, and they looked angry. Very angry. Still hissing, they attacked with whips made of vine and sharpened staffs, seeking to impale the adventurers.

Petraak drew his sword. "Ahh, BATTLE!" He saluted his opponents and lunged toward them, "Prepare to die, honored foes!"

The shot rang out before Luke even realized he'd drawn, and the bullet hit the zombie squarely in the head, taking it down. That was the last of them. He waded first through the sea of gore surrounding them, trying not to step in anything...anyone...whatever.

"Are you ok, Miss...?"

The flash of fire surprised him. He'd never seen anything like that before, not even under the tutelage of his former mistress. He would have power like that one day, Edward thought, admiring and fearing the source at the same time. Breaking through his reverie, his attention was drawn to the fallen.

"Yeah, are you ok? That's quite a hit you took."

Subject: Edward Delacroix

Name: Edward Delacroix
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Element: Fire
Allignment: Chaotic good
Appearance: Short, but lanky, with deep black hair and green eyes, carries a staff that he is able to channel energy with, and his familar, a black cat named Hex, is always by his side.

Backstory: From a young age, Edward knew he was different. Growing up in New Orleans, that was saying something. His best friend early on was a voodoo witch named Heloise that appeared to be anything but a voodoo witch. It was her that turned him on to magic, but he shied away from the darkness of voodoo for the more fun (to him) power of fire. After his graduation from college with a degree in Museum Studies, he decided not to become a curator and instead accepted an invitation to the Academy, which had a reputation for training the best and most promising young practitioners of magic. Even though he would be older than most of the entering students, he readily accepted, wanting to know more, to become a true warlock one day. Who knew, that day might be sooner than he thought.

Light streamed in the car as his travelling companion awoke. She had been sleeping for a while, but he hadn't. In a way, he'd been too tired to sleep, in another way, too excited. The Academy promised to make him even more powerful, better able to harness the volatile power of fire. He stretched out his lanky body as best he could and readjusted his staff, which kept getting in the way as much as he did in the cramped confines of the car. He checked the pocket watch in his vest. Just a little longer and they'd arrive. Just then, his familiar, a black cat named Hex alerted him to her presence by rubbing her head against his wrist. He patted her on the head and looked into her eyes, which seemed to ask, "Are we there yet?" Soon, he hoped. He couldn't take much more of this drive. Still, at least Hex was being patient, she curled up on his lap and promptly went back to sleep. He decided to at least be polite to the witch in the car with him, so he opened up with the same old line, "So...are you a good witch or a bad witch," with a slightly sarcastic smile.

"If we've got a chance, we might as well take it, we might not get any more," Jackson said, checking his gun to make sure it was fully loaded, then checking both barrels of the shotgun. Locked and loaded. The three ran toward the warehouse, weaving in and out of the aisles, taking down another few zombies on the way. Jackson covered the door as Dancer was preparing to enter. "Ready...one...two..."

Jackson looked on as Seth punched a zombie in the chest and removed his hand, covered in gore as it sank to the floor.

"Man, that's just gross. I guess that'll kill the old bastards too. More than one way to skin a cat, and all that."

Jackson led the way through the next few aisles of the mall as the trio started heading toward the exit, toward the mysterious woman in the warehouse. It looked like easy going. Well, as easy as it was going to get, they had to kill another few of the creatures along the way, but they made it to the exit unscathed. Jackson stood covering the entrance to the warehouse.

"You guys ready for this?"

Topic: The Lost Temple of Sunryad - A Freeform D&D Adventure
Subject: Petraak

Petraak was amakened by the scream that reverberated through the night like a banshee loosed upon the world. It was Ula. He saw the skeleton reaching for her, and he heard the bard's instrument playing a deep, resounding chord that shook the skeleton away. Quickly, he traced a rune in the air and threw some dust through the rune, toward the skeleton. As the dust passed through the rune, it erupted into flame that caused the skeleton to burst into flame and combust into a pile of dust.

He helped Ula up and asked about what she had seen. She and Jonathan were both shaken by the encounter, obviously and reasonably so. Waking up to a living nightmare tends to do that to a person, even a fey creature. He gave her his thick knight's cloak, since she was shivering, and she began to recount her story.

He noticed, however, that in his peripheral vision, the skull on the staff seemed to glow slightly in the night with a kind of dark fire. Even though he was slightly schooled in the arcane arts, he had never heard of anything like this. The workings of necromancy were beyond him, and this staff was obviously a necromancer's tool. Whether a goblin toying with the possibilities of raising his fallen comrades, or some great wizard that had lost it to them, he didn't know, but it was obvious it was more powerful than they had thought.

Looking directly at it, he noticed no such glow, and tucked the thought away in the back of his mind, for now. He would have to read about it more in depth later. Perhaps some of the books in the temple would speak of them at length. Still, as comfortable as he was with basic magic, he distrusted the staff and the powers attached to it.

It seemed to smile at them in the night, taunting them. It sent a shiver down his normally unharried spine. What sort of magic is this? Are the fey creature's nightmares and the staff connected in some way?

Time would tell, but a part of him feared they didn't have time enough to spare. The wind whispered through the trees and made it sound like the staff laughed at them.

Jackson lit up too, since no one was around in the store. He looked around the store and finally found the sign he was looking for. Sporting Goods. Hopefully they could pick up a few extra rounds or some extra firepower. Who knew, there might even be a pawn shop between here and the warehouse.

He pointed it out to the other two and they started carefully over to the sporting goods section. They were like kids in a candy store. Rows of rifles, shotguns, knives, even a few handguns. Luke picked up a couple boxes of .38 rounds for his revolver, some speed loaders, a combat knife that he stuck into a holster and attached to his left leg. He found a NATO-style holster that fit his revolver like a glove and attached it to his right leg. He also picked up some fish hooks and some screws that were lying around in case he had to make a pipe bomb later. Shrapnel was always fun to use against the enemy.

After they had raided the stock, they heard a noise behind them. Another group of zombies had follwed them in, and they wanted blood. "Hell, if it's blood they want..." Jackson thought, raising his weapon, "It's blood they'll get...their own!"

He fired off a couple of rounds just as they came within range, and he smelled the gun powder in the air, and he was blinded by the barrel flash in the darkness, but only momentarily. He was ready for them this time...

Jackson pulled his revolver when he saw the creature going for Seth. The blast from the gun occurred just seconds before the creature's head exploded like an overripe melon.

Alert now, he swung around and was faced by two more of the lumbering, disgusting creatures, each with the same hexagonal mark on their arms. He didn't even consider firing a warning shot after he saw what they were capable of in the dossier earlier. Two more shots, and they hit the ground with a nauseating splat. He turned back around to check on his companions who were busy with more of their own. Quickly, he tucked his revolver away and pulled out a sawed-off shotgun.

He emptied both barrels into the storm drain that seemed to be spawning the things. He threw the spent shotgun to the ground and shoved a cement block into the storm drain, blocking it. If only he had a good grenade...he remembered the Dirty Dozen and smirked at the thought.

He pulled his revolver back out and took the break in the fight to reload. "What ARE these things..." he thought as he rejoined the fight.

Well, it's the one I'm most familiar with, since I've just gotten into the whole D&D thing (I'm such a n00b). But, from what I've looked at, it's fairly user-friendly, if a bit too geared toward WoW kinda things. As far as questions, ask away. If I don't know something, I'll look that sucker up. And, no hurry with the char concept. I'm going to work one up for myself too, just to keep things a little more well-rounded.
