"Buddy, you know where I stand. I'm with you 100%."

Jackson thought for a moment back to their Army days. Nothing like this...nothing like this...

He shook it off, though, shouldn't let everything hinge on creepy feelings. He'd seen too much. Done too much to let something like this bother him. Still, he did have a bad case of the creeps about this one. Maybe it was the pictures, maybe it was the scene in the apartment, but something...oh well, might as well go into it guns blazing like always.

"She's not answering? That is weird. Too weird. I'm telling you guys, something about this just doesn't seem kosher. We might as well just head to Moscow, though, try to get ahold of her along the way. And if we don't..."

He stopped. He didn't want to think of the alternative.

Petraak removes his sword from the corpse of a hobgoblin and breathes steam again in the cold of the night. He backhands a worg away before dispatching it as well.

Steam and smoke from the gnome's device cloud the air, but Petraak's eyes see perfectly in the dark. It's nice to have the upper hand, he thought. Another one of the worgs rushed toward him, and, remembering a tome he studied once, recited an incantation and raised his hand toward the worg.

*FLASH* (OOC: like my special effects?

The worg, blinded, screeches and falls back, now an easy opponent for the dragonborn. He looked around through the smoke. The battle was almost over.

Jackson put down the shotgun and his standard issue Beretta. He checked the chambers in his revolver. Yep, still loaded, and I'm damn sure not leaving it here, he thought. He tucked it into his waistband and the three started walking out of the building. Once outside, he flipped up the collar of his jacket against the cold. He lit a cigarette and thought long and hard about the "right thing."

"The right thing, buddy? Have we ever done the right thing? I mean, is it worth all this, just some paycheck?"

He paused, staring out into the night as if waiting for something.

"We all asked ourselves that a long time ago, and it's worth it for us, but this mess with Agnes...This is all new to me. Base hasn't ever cut it this close before, so there's obviously something wrong. Maybe a mole, maybe just dumb luck, but I tell you one thing, it's not safe here anymore. And if there is a mole...well, I say our best bet is getting to the Moscow safehouse and go from there. Maybe at least we can learn something about this whole mess. I just know there's something the powers-that-be aren't telling us, and it could probably get us real dead, real fast."

He took another long drag and flipped the cigarette away, the last light shining into the shadows.

"That's just my take. What do you guys think?"

The Dragonborn saluted his opponents, as was the custom of his people to salue even the lowliest of opponents. He then lunged toward one of the worgs, his blade flashing in the moonlight filtered through the trees.

The worg lunged back, prepared for the attack, opened its jaws wide, and was ripped apart by Petraak's huge sword. He then hesitated, perhaps a moment too long, hearing a slight noise from behind the group and fearing reinforcements. He turned around and accidentally gave a fatal wound to a hobgoblin.

"My luck is good tonight..." he thought to himself.

The sounds of battle filled the air as the Dragonborn knight took a deep breath and rejoined the fray, breathing steam in the cold night. None of his comrades would fall this night if he had anything to say about it. Certainly not to this riff-raff.

Luke swept the apartment, but to no avail, it was empty. Just more and more weird stuff happening, same old, same old. Man, they didn't PAY him enough for this...

He went ahead and checked the closets, finding more used syringes, rubber tubing, plastic baggies...hello...he picked up a double-barreled shotgun that was tucked away in one of the closets. He flipped the barrels open. Loaded. Oh well, you never know, he thought, deciding to take it with him. She certainly wouldn't be needing it anymore.

"Well boys, the place is clean. Though "clean" is stretching it a little. Nasty place." He looked at the body, "You know, strange, but that kinda fits with the decor." He chuckled at his own tasteless joke. More of the dark humor he'd developed over the years.

"Let's get going, guys. Nothing else here. We might want to call base and have them clean it, though. The last thing we need is the cops poking around and finding the armory we call home."

He looked at Colton, who was showing off his firearm collection, "You too, James Bond."

I would definitely say play by heart. But, like I said earlier, these characters are pretty middle of the road, not horribly overpowered, so unless you're shapechanging into a monster polar bear with three heads, it'll be fine. When in doubt, run it past me. Don't be afraid to ask, I'll probably say it's ok unless it's just something too far out there, but not a lot's too far out there for me.

Any normal person would think Seth had gone nuts. But, Luke and known him for too long. So long he'd come to terms with the fact that neither one of them was a normal person anymore.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!"

Despite knowing this, Jackson still jumped at the sudden outburst. He'd seen something at the window? Funny, he thought he'd seen something out of the corner of his eye too, and then the strange phone call...

Something was clearly more out of the norm than usual. The pictures, now people sneaking around outside, and the threats? Something wasn't right, Jackson said so to his companions, and they should figure out exactly what it was. He grabbed his leather jacket and put his revolver in his shoulder holster. The other two asked him where he was going.

"To see what the hell that was outside. You coming?"

Subject: Synopsis and more

Ok, the main idea is this, it will take place in a new world, called Hamlin. The primary cities are: the human capital of Karnas, a large city of weath and prosperity in the wilderness, Khordalyum, the Dwarven stronghold in the mountains of the North, and Quel'thassil, the Elven city of Gold in the plains of the South.

A group of first time adventurers meet in Hamlin for a meeting of the Adventurer's Guild. For the induction, they must travel to the Kilias Mountains of the West to retrieve an amulet stolen by a goblin raiding party. The group will be made up of the four basic classes, the striker, defender, etc. Up to you, really, just as long as there gets to be a balanced group.

We have our first slot taken by Angel of Nether!

Note: These are the real attributes, but they don't have to be played this way, as it'd be better in a semi-freeform kinda way like was suggested over in the other thread. Don't let it scare you away, if you have any questions, just ask!

He jumped when he heard Colton speak. Man, his nerves were still shot.

"Won't you sit down?" he said, "Me and Dancer go way back. We were in the Army together, and when we got out, we decided we didn't want to get a regular 9 to 5, so we got in with this group. Pay's good, keeps things interesting. I remember, though, I've seen some bad things before, but nothing like this. One time in Uganda, we were send to 'get rid of' some locals who were going cannibal. But at least they had the decency to kill somebody before they tried to eat them. Not like this...not like this at all."

He stopped and lit a cigarette and began dealing cards to himself and Colton. At least he'd have some company.

He remembered Uganda, vividly. And he'd been right, it was nothing at all like this. This, it was almost like the people were animals. If it was a virus, it was one hell of a virus.

Felwood was dark that night. It was dark anyway, and even the sounds of nature there were disquieting in the dark. The wind became banshees flying through the trees, screaming their dirges. Frogs were the croaks of hobgoblins, and the wolves' howls seemed otherworldly.

The companions made their way down the path into the forest, but had yet to noticed that, as they moved forward, the path closed behind them. They also failed to notice that they were being watched, watched by ancient eyes, deep in the darkness. If they listened carefully, they could hear creatures flanking them on both sides as they moved down the path, adding to the tension they already felt from being in Felwood on such a night.

It was said that Felwood was cursed, and any who ventured into it was doomed to an eternity among its trees, never finding a way out. It was said a great evil resided there, but the legend was so old, it was long forgotten, and the tale of the cursed Felwoods was something mothers told their children, and yet, despite that fact, they could feel something in the darkness, something shapeless and yet distinct, with the acrid scent of evil in the air like ozone after a lightning strike.

Suddently, a shape moved from their flanks and jumped in front of them. They barely got a glance at it before it dashed off to the other side. A wolf? A ghost? None of them could tell, but they were all getting at least a bit nervous. It's one thing to know that an attack is coming, but quite another to not to when or where it will occur.

And still the eyes watched from the darkness.

The creature dashed out again, and this time it stayed in front of them. It was soon joined by other creatures, creatures that reeked of evil. Hobgoblins and worgs. Two of the most vile creatures of the wood.

Petraak Dragonborn was the first to draw his sword and attempt to protect the others, but they were clearly surrounded. "It's time for battle...good..."the Dragonborn knight thought to himself. He'd been in the archives for far too long...

The nightmares came, one after another. Brutal killing of people, the strange marking on their arms, coming for him...coming for all of them...

He woke up.

3 in the morning.

He'd never had nightmares like this. Nightmares, after all, were part of the job. Generally, when you're a hired gun, you have bad dreams, but nothing like this. Nothing so brutal, so disturbing.

Sitting up on the bed, he picked up the portfolio of pictures and glanced through them again. He couldn't look at them for long, the images still fresh from his dreams. They indeed looked like something out of a nightmare.

He placed his gun on the nightstand and got up for a drink. He popped open the beer on the edge of the counter. It was warm and unsatisfying. He took another sip and threw it away and went to wash his face. Anything to wash away the nightmares. He sat down at the table and started playing solitaire, the rythmic sound of the cards on the table relaxing him. Jackson decided to just wait on the others to wake up. No sleep tonight.

He worked as a mercenary for some time, but lately has taken to adventuring and plying his trade, both as a warrior and a smith with his hammer. Well tempered in the fires of battle, he's a stalwart companion, faithful to the end, but he inherits the stiff-necked traits of his Dwarven brothers, always believing his way is the only way. He tends to adopt a fatherly way with younger adventurers even in middle age, and he would glady lay his life down for one of his trusted friends. He would, however, much rather lay down the lives of any who stand in his way, or in the way of his companions.

Luke sat up late into the night checking and rechecking his weapons. He'd taken his glock apart and put it back together innumerable times. He was still shaken up by the photographs earlier.

He nodded, the whiskey taking away some of his racing thoughts. Funny thing was, he hadn't even touched the stuff since the last time...but that was long ago, and he didn't like to focus on the past so much. He lit another cigarette and threw the empty pack in the trash can as he began to take the MP5 apart. He needed some variety.

Still, he couldn't shake the nightmarish images. Was this some kind of new bioterrorism thing? Were those people insane? Was he? He didn't know, and franky, he was too drunk to care. He went to sleep with his revolver in his hand and a knife under his pillow. Probably to fight off the nightmares. But they came anyway.
