I can't guarantee he won't walk out an airlock if he assaults one of my security officers.

They don't but it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility that you could replicate an older weapon, most of the security staff have the clearance to do that. It would be going against starfleet regs though and I don't think it's necessary, if one of these ambassadors is taking down trained starfleet security personel we have a bigger problem on our hands than a couple stolen phasers.

I think think if we only use 1 escort having a deck 2 security presence is important. Not a person stationed outside each VIP suite but having personnel available when they're out of their quarters is important just in terms of response times. Short of having to repel a boarding action led by Klingons I think we'll be okay dealing with two ambassadors.

Subject: More Ambassador containment

I'm going to veto the old school fire arms, I think if we've got 2 designated escorts per ambassador we're okay, and we don't want to wind up killing one of them, when they're shot by a slug thrower and we don't have good enough medical documentation to save them. If we want them wandering around with them set to heavy stun I think that'll be enough to take one of em down in hurry if things go south.

As for man power issues, I have some thoughts in that regard, folks working in sensitive areas can be armed with type 1 or 2 phasers, since area's like engineering and sickbay are manned 24/7 they've both got ready made security teams. Areas such as deflector control and the torpedo launchers can be secured with forcefields which can only be disabled by a tactical officer, I'm thinking Berk and Reid, maybe Ensign Blackmon, the captain, the XO and 2nd officer, really anyone the captain and first officer thinks should have access. The bridge and security section of deck 5 can be secured using containment fields access codes/scans. Same with other restricted decks. The escorts can function as guards on deck 2 when the ambassadors are in their quarters. I can't see them having access to the rec facilities representing a huge security risk.

Subject: Mathias meets the XO

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine Bridge - 0905

Mathias was discussing schedule and procedural changes in preparation for the arrival of the two ambassadors with Ensign Blackmon when he heard the faint swish of the turbolift doors and a confident voice break the relative silence on the bridge.

"Good morning, again, all."

Mathias looked up from his station to see a reasonably tall man making his way across the bridge, his stride confident but fluid, towards the tactical station, as he got closer Mathias could make out the spots that framed the man's face.

"Ah our Trill first officer and helmsman, Lieutenant Zai. Mathias thought, taking his mind off the task at hand, turning to meet his XO, who he noticed had a much more relaxed air about him compared to the captain, but not too relaxed, still professional.

"Good to meet you, Mathias. Sorry it has to be under such hectic circumstances." Lieutenant Zai spoke while giving Mathias a firm handshake, a degree of warmth in his voice that made Mathias feel welcome. The Lieutenant's eyes shifted to the displays at Tactical.

"We see you're already on top of security preparations for our incoming guests. Outstanding. If there's anything I can do to lend a hand, don't hesitate to let us know."

"We? A joined trill then? Mathias kept his curiosity to himself. It did explain why a man who could only be a few years his senior and only a Lieutenant was acting as XO though, he had a trove of past lives to fall back on.

"Yes sir, we're stretched a little thin on our end but we'll make do, I'll have a full report of the security preparations sent to you before the end of your shift, I don't foresee needing additional man power though."

"Very well, then, Lieutenant," Lieutenant Zai nodded, "I know you're busy, so we'll let you get back to it. We look forward to serving with and getting to know you." The Lieutenant turned and made his way to his own console, and Mathias turned to Blackmon and got back to work.

"Sorry about that Ensign, where were we?"

"Not a problem sir, we were discussing arming personnel in sensitive areas." She responded.

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Perigrine CTO Office Deck 5 - 0840

Mathias sat in his office sipping a cup of coffee, having gotten up early after his first night in his new quarters. They were roughly the same size as his old quarters aboard the Valour, perhaps slightly larger. The ceiling in his old quarters had sloped sharply and as a result he'd hit his head on more than one occasion, so he was pleased to see that this was not the case when he stepped into his new quarters.

He sipped his coffee, looking over security personnel files, duty rosters, and security team assignments, noting that while the crew hadn't seen much in the way of action in a while, most of them had a great deal of starfleet experience, a pool of experience he intended to tap. He'd scheduled meetings with most of the department which would take the better part of the next two days, in addition to shifts on the bridge today and tomorrow. He was finishing up his schedule for the next week when the comms system chimed.

=/= Lt. Berk ~wheeze~"

"Berk here, go ahead."

=/= Sir, ~wheeze~ the Captain will be returning to the ship shortly, he informed me that, ~wheeze~ the Ambassadors of both the Rytain and Kuldar delegations will be joining us aboard the Peregrine. I thought you should know ~wheeze~. =/=

"Right then, I'll put together a security detail for our guests. Berk Out"

This threw a wrench in the weeks plans, but he'd have to deal with that later. He left his office and made his way to the armoury, tapping his commbadge as he walked.

"Lieutenant Berk to security"

=/= "Brooks here, go ahead" =/=

"It looks like we're going to have some visiting dignitaries on board, I want your team at the airlock to escort them to their quarters when they come aboard, I'll have you posted on deck 2 with your team for the duration of their stay, be discrete, we don't want them feeling unwelcome but we can't have them wandering either."

=/= "Aye sir" =/=

Mathias keyed in his security code, and fetched a type 2 phaser from the locker and shoved it in his holster, he wasn't expecting trouble but he felt it best if there was a strong security presence while the ambassadors of two warring parties were aboard. Either of them could be using this as an attempt to gain the upper hand, they barely had the manpower to secure the whole ship against a pair of unauthorized eyes. He returned to his office to fetch his PADD when he noticed a message from Lieutenant Reid. His second had seen fit to put together a short report on the security situation as well suggestions for "containing" the ambassadors.

Tapping his communicator he spoke " Berk to Lieutenant Reid."

(OCC Assuming response)

"I'm putting you in charge of securing sensitive areas of the ship, we're going to be stretched pretty thin but we can't have so much as a power-cell leaving this ship in the hands of either side, do what you can to ensure our people don't burn out, if you need to assign me a security shift do so."

(OCC assuming orders acknowledged, can edit if there are any questions)

"Berk out."

Mathias made for the door again and walked briskly to the Turbolift and stepped through the door.

"Bridge!"

Mathias stepped out onto the Bridge, and made his way to the tactical station, next to Ensign Blackwell, the Captain sitting his chair, preparing to get the ship under way

"Good Morning Captain."

(OCC No response necessary, just being polite)

"Ensign." he nodded to Ensign Blackmon and took the tactical station.

I'm assuming a standard security detachment armed with type 2 phasers would probably be all we need, unless there's a serious security risk that they represent to the ship or from the outside no one's told be about.

USS Peregrine, Captains Quarters 2005
Stardate 2365.02.07

Captain Drake took the PADD and shook Mathias' hand, and then motioned to the chair while turning to return to his own seat .

"Please, Lieutenant - relax. Welcome aboard the Peregrine. Have a seat."

Mathias relaxed a bit, the tension in his shoulders releasing as he took his seat.

"So then, Mister Berk, this will be your first posting as a Chief Tactical Officer? Congratulations." Silas gave a warm smile. "I don't know if you have pulled my own file yet - though something about you suggests that is quite probably the case - but Tactical is my background, as well. With this sort of ship, your skills might be needed sooner rather than later."

Mathias nodded, he'd gone over the service records of both the Perigrine's CO and XO on the trip to Starbase 118. Even if the transfer was unexpected he was excited to be serving under such a talented tactician.

"Aye, sir, I gave you and Lieutenant Zai's record's a once over on the trip to Starbase 118, this is going to be a big departure from running station security and dealing with cabin fever on a nearly ancient science vessel. I think there's a great deal I can learn from you sir."

The Captain leaned back in his seat as he spoke.

"Lieutenant Zai - my XO - and I are scheduled to meet with Captain Jacobs and the diplomats at oh eight hundred tomorrow; we expect to leave port presently thereafter on our escort mission. We have also obtained a new doctor and Operations chief; I believe Lieutenant Tetsuku is not yet aboard, so you may want to seek out Chief Palmer to get your quarters situation handled. Your aTAC is Lieutenant Reid; he's a good man, and well versed on our mission, so you will likely want to speak to him, as well. Now, is there anything else that I can do for you at this time?"

"He doesn't sound terribly excited about the prospect of meeting with this Captain Jacobs nor the diplomats." Mathias didn't envy those in command sometimes.

"No sir, no questions, best of luck with the diplomats though, should I have the transporter room keep a transporter lock on you just in case things go sideways? Maybe a tactical team to provide back up?" He said with a smile.

(OCC: Assuming a response, and then dismissal)

Mathias stood up to leave.

"Again sir, it's a pleasure to meet you."

He made his way to the door and stepped into to the hall, feeling good about his first meeting with the Captain and wondering why he felt nervous in the first place. Now it was time to find his staff, specifically Lt. Reid.

"Computer, locate Lt. Reid."

=/= "Lt. Reid is in the Security Ward Room, Deck 5" =/=

Mathias made his way back to the turbolift, the thought occurred to him, he'd never had his own staff, he'd had subordinates, a security team, the other security officer on the Xhosa but never a full team that was his responsibility, the prospect scared him and thrilled him all the same. The turbolift doors slid open before him and he stepped into the car.

"Deck 5."

It was only a short ride, and moments later the door opened and he stepped into the corridor, and made his way to the Security office and ward room, at least he was pretty sure it was. He entered the ward room, an officer, whom he assumed was Lt. Reid sitting, PADD in hand.

"Lt. Reid I presume." Getting the Lieutenant's attention.

(OCC assuming response from Lt. Reid, will leave it there pending a response. I also hope I got the deck number right for the Ward room.)

2365.02.07
Starbase 128/ USS Perigrine 2000

"Well let's get on with it." Mathias thought tapping his communicator.

"This is Lieutenant Mathias Berk to USS Peregrine, requesting permission to come aboard"

(OOC assuming permission granted and orders to report to CO)

Mathias tapped the panel for the airlock door and it slid open with a faint pneumatic hiss revealing the smaller docking port door of the Peregrine which opened to greet him and he entered his new home, he glanced around the hall was narrower than that of the those of the Valour. He supposed things didn't get as busy during shift changes on a ship this small.

No matter how small gaining your bearings on a new ship took time, Mathias was sure he would he would get lost at least once on the way to the mess hall, or his office. He could navigate the back country, through sights never seen before by him, sometimes anyone, but a new ship always screwed with his head. He found one of the ship's hallway displays in order to orient himself and find a turbo lift.

Several moments later and one wrong turn he found the turbolift, he entered and with door hissing shut behind him.

"Deck two."

He felt the brief sensation of his stomach being pushed into the ground, combined with the butterfly he had thanks to the prospect of meeting his new CO he felt a touch nauseous. That fact made him uneasy, he'd faced armed opponents who actually shot back, broken up bar fights between Nausicaans and been aboard ships in the midst of pitched battle, with only the hull and the shields of the ship between him and hard vacuum, and for some reason this was what was getting to him.

The swish of the door interrupted his thoughts, and he stepped out of the turbolift and walked briskly down the hall to the Captain's quarters, tapping the door chime, he waited.

(OCC assuming permission to enter)

Mathias stepped through the threshold of the door.

"Lieutenant Mathias Berk, reporting for duty sir!" He said with clipped disciplined efficiency.

(OCC assuming ordered at ease)

"Here are my transfer orders, it'll be a pleasure to serve under you." He said as he held out his hand.

(OCC Letting the the Captain take it from here)

Stardate 2365.02.07
USS Staffordshire/ Starbase 118 1945

Mathias sat in his temporary quarters aboard the USS Staffordshire, sipping a cup of coffee reviewing a PADD with the the details of his new assignment. After having been under way for the better part of three days, Mathias had had plenty of time to look over the specs of his new posting but it didn't hurt to be prepared.

"It'll be like moving from a big city to the middle of nowhere" he mused only to have his thoughts interrupted by the comms.

=/= Bridge to Lt. Berk. =/=

"Berk, here, go ahead."

=/= We're approaching Starbase 112, we'll be docking shortly, the captain has requested you meet him at the docking port. =/=

"On my way."

Mathias had been glad when he found out the Staffordshire was the ship he'd be hitching a ride with, it's Captain, Captain Singh was an old friend of his mother's, he couldn't think of anyone better to see him off to his next assignment, as he made his way to the docking port.

He felt the and heard the sound of the ship making contact with the stations docking collar just as he rounded the corner, the captain coming into view.

"Came to see you off." Said the captain, clapping his hand on Mathias' back. "You're mother would be proud."

Mathias smiled, "and my father not so much."

"Well you can't please everyone." Captain Singh grinned back.

"Permission to disembark sir!" Mathias said with feigned seriousness, through a wide grin.

"Permission granted, the transporter chief is already on top of having your things transported out of ‘his cargo bay', good luck Mathias" Singh replied, while shaking his hand firmly.

Mathias shouldered his bag and made his way to the airlock door, looking back at Captain Singh as he turned to leave. As the door glided open in front of him and he stepped through into the sea of people on the other side.

He made his way around the docking level to docking port 4A and looked out the view port to see the Peregrine, with its shovel shaped saucer section, the Saucer section of every other ship he'd ever served on dwarfed the whole ship.

"Yea, this'll be different."
