Thanks for letting me know that you’re both still interested.

To be honest, I’m a bit bogged down with other things at the moment. But restarting the game on the boards could definitely work. We’d just need to make a few changes to open up the storyline to new players, and to allow for the slower rate of play. I’ll certainly let you both know if I do decide to start things up again.

I just turned 21 this morning. One short train journey later, and I'm ready to celebrate.

Don't expect many posts from me this weekend.

Glad you liked it. I had originally hoped to run the game here, but there doesn’t really seem to be enough interest (you’re the second person to respond over the last week).

I posted on plothook yesterday, and four other players expressed an interest overnight, so it seems only fair to run there instead.

Here’s a link to the thread:

http://plothook.net/RPG/showthread.php?t=14031

Hopefully we should be able to start the game up next week, I’ll have finished the setting description tomorrow. If you need a hand creating your character, then just let me know.

The game will be set in the modern UK. Beyond that, any character concept will be fine (student, doctor, psychic, private investigator… anything really ).

I’ll finish writing up the town description over the weekend. And since there doesn’t seem to be all that much interest here, I’ve just posted a feeler on another site as well.

Depending on how things pan out I might run the game there instead.

$4.50 a gallon here. this is what we get when the Bible Belts vote in a Prez from an old oil family, wanna talk conflect of intrests?

It’s about £1.13-1.14 per litre over here. (Which works out at over $10/ gallon). More than two thirds of that is tax.

Enjoy your “oil family” president while you can. You can bet that petrol prices are going to rocket sky high once the left-liberals/ socialists get in and the green lobby get their foot in the door.

Interested to see how this one turns out...

With any luck it might even bring Bryson back in line with the rest of the group.

Topic: Feeding The Undead
Subject: Is he finally losing it?

Striding evenly through the doors and back into the old church building, every footfall measured evenly in turn, Father John Bryson ascended the stairs and stepped neatly back inside. The night air seemed warm and oddly sticky on his skin, the priest’s carefully laundered white shirt already sodden with a rising tide of perspiration, and he was tired, perhaps more tired than he knew. The scene outside had rankled with Bryson, it was not in the least what he had expected and it wounded the minister deeply to see an orderly and God-fearing town descend so quickly into such manifest lawlessness. The ceaseless wailing of police sirens up and down the town’s streets did little to assuage his nerves.

Bryson stepped back inside, acutely aware of his congregation’s stares as their attention was drawn to the sound of the closing doors behind him. The moment seemed pregnant, acutely awkward somehow and Bryson fumbled for the words to speak. The air seemed heavy, catching dry and claustrophobic in his throat, they were waiting but for the life of him the priest could not think of a message to impart.

“This is HCOB announcement for the Herkimer, Mohawk Valley. The Herkimer, Mohawk Valley has been placed under Severe Environmental Hazard Watch for the evening of September the fourteenth. All business are instructed to be closed by 10:30 PM, and an 11:00 curfew is being implemented on the residents of the Herkimer, Mohawk, Ilion, and Frankfort villages. Residents are asked to avoid contact with any and all unfamiliar animals, and to keep pets inside. Residents are also asked to avoid contact with strangers. If you have been bitten by an animal, or attacked by a person in the past 24 hours, seek medical attention immediately at the Faxton, Healthcare Facility on 201, East State Street. All emergency services will be fully functioning throughout the night.”

Jay McConnor’s radio crackled to life on the table behind him, and Bryson’s brow furrowed slightly at the unexpected news.

Perhaps something in the words struck a chord with him, or perhaps the minister was merely beginning to crack under the past months’ accumulated stress, but like a bolt from the blue, he was struck by an immediate flash of revelation. His own experience with the military, near two decades distant now, had been sufficient to curry distrust at the ordered efficiency of the broadcast’s tone. Some kind of horrible disaster was befalling the town, and he had a duty to warn these people as best he could and get them out before anything worse happened.

Raising his voice slightly to begin a speech, determined to inject a measured and orderly tone into the words that he could scarcely feel, Bryson glanced across what remained of his gathered congregation, trying to gauge their response to his words.

“Ladies, gentlemen, could I have your attention for a moment please? From the sound of that broadcast, and the police cars running up and down the street outside, I’d say that something quite significant has happened- or might be about to happen- somewhere across town.”
“Now, while we can’t say for certain what’s going on out there yet- it could be a bomb alert, it might just be a major waste spill- I’d suggest that none of us are going to want to be there when it goes off. According to that radio we’ve still got an hour, I’d suggest that we all just gather up our things and reconvene somewhere on the edge of town. The Walmart there might be a good spot. If any of you have friends or family that you’ll need to call or bring along then this might be a good time.”

“I know that some of you will have work tomorrow, but if the town’s being closed down tonight, then things won’t be up and running again for at least another day. If I’m wrong, and I most sincerely hope that I am, the worst that can happen is that we’ll all lose a couple of hours’ sleep and take a couple more tins of food home with us tomorrow. If I am right, then who knows? Whatever’s going on here,, it sounds serious, and they wouldn’t be shutting the town without good reason.”

His piece spoken, Bryson’s shoulders slumped slightly, whether from relief or sheer exhaustion. For better or worse, it was in God’s hands now.

Subject: Shadows over Olemorton [Recruitment]

A sharp breeze was blowing through the old churchyard, whistling and howling as it swept through the dry, skeletal branches of the overgrown trees. Far below, the distant lights of the town flickered and ebbed along the river estuary, weak and distant in the cold light of dawn as the first tendrils of light crawled softly across the hill-line overhead. Beneath the harsh cacophony of the wind brushing through the trees above, one could make out the mournful dirge of police sirens echoing along the river bank, the drunken laughter of partygoers returning late from one of the town’s many nightclubs, brash and incoherent in the morning’s still air.

Reflexively, almost without thinking, the man glanced down to check his watch. 4:35 AM. Within a few meagre hours the town would be rousing itself to life once more: shrill, screeching alarms startling bleary-eyed office workers from sleep’s oblivion and into the rigours of the ascendant week, newspapers would be delivered, shops and businesses would fling their doors open across town once more in anticipation of another morning’s brisk business and the minutiae of daily life would go on. Time enough once he was gone. The figure chuckled softly- or perhaps it was a sob- and scurried off into the alley below, the ragged tails of his tattered coat dancing lightly in the breeze.

Behind him, suspended loosely from the twisted bough of one of the cemetery’s tallest trees a body was hanging, crook-necked, its fall arrested by the rough coil of hemp suspended around its neck and looped several times around the branch above. Spun by a sudden caprice of the wind, a bruised, purple face was revealed beneath the tangled mass of auburn hair, eyes bulging vacantly into the night’s cold air. The corpse’s left foot twitched erratically, stirring against the breeze; something had been cut into her exposed midriff, barely legible beneath the sticky mess of congealing blood which coated the wound.

The night would soon be over, the worst of the deep darkness long since past, and the killer fled into the pale light of dawn. The wind overhead babbled and howled with the vigour of a thousand insatiable voices, twisting and splintering the trees’ dry bones with its passage. A storm was brewing in the hills overhead, and there would be a heavy rain to fall before its fury was spent.

It’s been a while since I last ran a game of my own on the boards, and I’ve been kicking around a few ideas for a while… so here goes.

I’m looking for 4-6 players who can commit to posting at least once a week for a game of supernatural horror. If everyone involved in a scene has posted before the end of the week then I’ll update more often.

We’ll be using the new World of Darkness rule set, but no previous experience with the Storyteller system is required. If anyone’s unfamiliar with the rules then I can easily guide you through character generation (it’s really a lot simpler than D&D). Alternatively, if you’d prefer, I could just stat up your character for you.

Descriptive posts are strongly preferred, but I’m not expecting anything novel length (though if you want to, then that’s great ). Please try to avoid one liners.

More information to follow once I have some idea of interest.

I’ve just handed in my last essay at university yesterday (finished my degree). Ideally, I’d like to spend a bit more time unwinding this afternoon and evening.

Feel free to update without me if you want, there doesn’t seem to be a lot that Vyarp can do at the moment anyway. If you can hold off until tomorrow then I’ll have the time to write something up.

Real life’s more important by far and I understand fully that people’s work schedules change.

At the same time, though, we’ve only managed to run one full game over the last month. There doesn’t seem much point in writing adventures if we’re never going to be able to run through them, and it doesn’t seem particularly fair to the few players who are turning up each week either.

I’ve decided to put the game on hold for the moment. Hope you all had as much fun playing as I did DMing. If people are still interested, then we might be able to start things back up again later on, failing that I might try to run a couple more one-shots at some point over the summer.

Do Fridays still work for everyone? If not then that’s fine, I’d just like to know up front so that we can decide whether to keep running.

Either way, just give me a heads up whether you’d like to keep the game going or not.

Topic: Now this could be interesting… [4th ed.]
Subject: ...

Well, I’ve pretty much ignored the last two editions so why break the habit now? If WotC want me to give up my AD&D books then they’ll need to pry them from my cold, dead hands.

Seriously, though, I posted this because it looks like a neat idea to help get new people into the hobby. I know plenty of people who play games like World of Warcraft and Neverwinter Nights online but would probably never join a tabletop RPG, simply because they don’t know anyone else who plays and due to the hassle involved. It seems a nice touch from that sort of convenience factor.

Once I leave university I’m unlikely to play another tabletop game for years, for pretty much the same reason: most of the people I used to game with at school have moved on, and the only other tabletop gamers I know will be 200 miles away. I’m not going to be willing to travel half way across London and back just to find a group. On the other hand, if it’s as easy as switching my computer on and hooking up with a group anywhere in my time zone then its far more likely that I’ll be able to find the time. Here's guessing I'm not the only one in that sort of situation.

It looks as though 4th edition will be geared for online play.

The graphics aren’t fantastic, and to be honest I probably won’t make the upgrade anyway, but this could be an absolute godsend for online groups. It might also make things a lot easier for new players to get into the hobby if they can just do a quick google search rather than needing to hunt down a group in their local area.

To create wizard scrolls you need to be at least a 9th level Mage.

To create priest scrolls you need to be at least a 7th level Cleric.

There isn't any experience cost, but you'd need to either gather or buy various magical components to create them first. Basically, when the time comes then just let me know what kind of scroll you're making and I'll give you a shopping list.

We’ll be running again at 9 PM GMT (conversion to other time zones listed in the first post of this thread).

When we wrapped up the last session you were in battle with four werewolves (two of which were injured already). Thalgrim was down and bleeding. And from the noise down the corridor to your left, reinforcements are probably on the way.

According to my notes, this is your current party status. May the dice gods have mercy on your souls.

It’s probably going to be easiest to just pick everything up again next Friday.

Same question as before, though: what the heck are you all doing next? Sticking around in the mountains or heading back south with the caravan?

The sooner you let me know, the sooner I can start writing up the next adventure.
