for future reference.

Kernan is a participating officer, and expects all able-body members of the squad to contribute. If it came right down to it he'd dig the latrines provided it made sense and his other skills weren't needed elsewhere (yes, I did refer to latrines digging as a skill). I'll likely have Kernan ammend the watch schedule to give the wounded more downtime.

Actually Brom

Speaking as a former Staff Sergeant that would be the wrong thing to do unless it was absolutely necessary which it is not per Olan’s last health update.
Doing so would show everyone in the company two things right off the bat.

1st you do not have faith in your senior NCO to follow your orders and make the right call. This in turn makes the NCOs job just that much harder as the men will not respect him because of it. This in turn may cause them not to follow his orders when given. I speak as an NCO who has encountered such newly minted 2nd Lt’s and the problems they can cause.

2nd and most important it shows that your one to change his mind at any moment may order one thing then do something else. That you don’t trust the NCOs and soldiers below you to carry out orders as they are trained to do.That you have to be in control all the time for example it could basically be best decribed that you were like the Lt from the movie Aliens.

To be honest, and I hope I am not giving anything away, this game is a lot like that, you’re the Lt, Blake is Ripley and I am senior Sergeant Apone.
The rest of the players are the team that died for the most part in the movie. Sorry guys but Apone died too

In the end it’s your call Brom and as Kane I will follow any order you give just wanted to give you a heads up from this former NCO.

Since we're discussing it

When I asked for an update on health, it was so that I'd know how much better MY character felt, so I can play accordingly, and how I would perceive the state of any other obviously injured players.

In my opinion, cold damage would be not be apparent to us non-medics unless it was severe (like hypothermia) so unless Johannsen says anything, I'm not certain the characters would realize the medic is sufffering at all.
Inga's been a stand up, by the book military type so far, and her player has posted that Inga is determined to not disgrace her Norwegian ancestors, so I can easily see Inga marching on without a complaint until she froze solid, with none of us the wiser We all carry a little fatigue from cold damage, but wouldn't guess that Inga feels worse than the rest of us, unless we're really perceptive

Anyway, did not mean to start a big debate...was just surprised that Kane would put his own rest before that of one of his wounded men.

valid points, all

Tann was using the info available to him - which, Vanadia correctly points out (and I had not thought of, myself!) that no one would have a real idea of the extent of the cold damage.

We can discuss this in circles, but I will back Tann up on this - while there certainly is more than one way to look at this situation, Kane by no means handled it wrong. I can't say for any certainty that he did NOT handle it 100% correct. The only thing that really should have possibly influenced Kane's decision was the fact that only two rangers had recognizable combat damage... and again, even I hadn'r realized I was metagaming the cold damage knowledge.

After medical care, Hatherford is nowhere close to being unable to stand a watch; can't say the sarge did wrong.

glad we're keeping this in the Q&A, not in game!

Fair enough

There's a little bit within my post about Charlie's own thoughts on the matter...but I will edit if you think inappropriate.

Never meant to imply that Tann was wrong...was just surprised and wanted to understand the protocol around the sitch.

inappropriate?

Not at all. I think that we all know Charlie is nonconformist... and even if she wasn't, I can't see the harm in her having her own opinion about the issue (real people would).

Right there with you Grugg

OK, since Kernan didn't express his preference while giving Kane the orders I'll allow that Kane acted as best prescribed by military protocol. However, Kernan is a participating officer as described before, so he'll likely calmly and kindly address this issue with Kane in private and instruct him to include all officers and NCOs, etc. in these decisions.

No Problem

You let Kane know that then he will assign watches with the officers included.
I could not do that before without your ok as commanding officer, sorry if that caused a hic up .

Also in answer to Van as to my placing myself on last watch again that was due to Inga's health status.
As our only Medic Kane felt he could not take the chance of her being worse off then was realized so he stood watch with her to make sure she was able to function without help.

Also I guess no one noticed how I set up the watch pairs, I set them up by rank with the senior of the pair in charge. I just wanted to try to clarify my madness

Watch order.

Chain of command is clear, military to the core.

You think military, you act military, do you smell military too. Always liked the nice clean smell of burning suphur in gunpower.

I had a nice, long post all ready.

I'd created it on my iPhone while away from my computer as I had some down time. I went to check something in the QA Thread and the phone erased everything I'd written. Half hour worth of one-finger typing down the drain. I'll have to try and recreate it tomorrow. Sorry.

That bites!

One finger typing? Two thumb texting is the way to go, m'dear!

With my previous pregnancy, I developed carpal tunnel syndrome because I was doing a lot of software testing at the time. With this one, I actually injured my thumb from the motion of unholstering the crackberry and simultaneously spinning the scroll wheel to answer a call. I had picked a password that could be "thumbed" one handed, but towards the end of my travelling, had to use both hands

So, CTS now stands for crackberry tendonitis syndrome

Would that it were that easy.

The iPhone has a touch pad keyboard that is very difficult to thumb. I'm relegated to one finger and though I can go fairly fast, am more prone to errors. Not to mention I never did like the Safari browser and that's what you're forced to use with the thing. Oh well. Still a cool little gizmo.

Anyway, I am two pages from being finished with this comic book (art at least) and then I just have to plug in the text and barring any revisions, I'm done! Then it is life as usual again.

Crew Roster for the ARF?

I'm thinking that the brief Charlie downloaded on the ARF would have included the names of the techs and soldiers posted here? If there's any detail about the brief glimpse she saw of the two men that would let her match names to them, she'd inform the Sarge and Looey.

Mimicks Olan's voice...

Yes... you have recognized the soldiers as Frankie Avalon, PFC and George Clooney, PFC. They look as though they've eaten a whole package of Keebler Soft Chew Chocolate Chip Cookies and are now feeling guilty. One even yells out, "Do these fatigues make me look fat?"
