Subject: Okiiiiiiie what t'do

Altadys was given a map and a prayer for her travel to Ostia then Fynn, not expecting it to all go so smoothly. Those strangers, one being a princess, really did depend on her. So she stopped in Ostia first as a halfway point and got a good meal and room. The next day, heading towards Fynn, Altadys kept recalling the most bizarre dream she has ever had in her sleep. A blue-haired knight it seemed, with black armor and a scimitar, appeared over her and pointed his sword at her. From the start to the end of her dream, the silent man never made a single motion to attack her. His image kept Altadys questioning whether if it was just a weird dream or an omen. He had never seen the person before.

Altadys raised a clawed hand to her brow, looking across the field and to the great city of Fynn. According to the map, she had made it. But, she had realized some well-armed men guarding the obvious front gate. She saw cliffsides side by the city the city, and towering walls surrounding it. Already, the raptoran was a little intimidated. She had to find the father no matter what, even if it meant sneaking in. Second thought, that might've been the only safest option.

Should I wait until nightfall?

Altadys got up from the ground quickly, nodded her head at the princess, then turned to walk out of the tent. She wasn't fully sure of this, but again, it was the only option.

The shock of seeing Altadys as "the Hero" must've been big. While bowing to the princess, even the raptoran felt awkward by the silence, and the stammering of words after that. It was most likely an unexpected sight; but ultimately, the princess placed her trust in Altadys. When she was asked to look for the previous King and to join the war, Altadys took a while to answer. If she said "yes", she was about to expose herself to danger, but at the same time, it seemed like the only option available.

Also, seeing the injured made her feel a little sympathy, "I will help."

Altadys recollected the elder's words upon looking at Pharae. It was like he had said, Nergal's usurp in Fynn had left many in a rough predicament. That one part was true. And it seemed that the raptoran was going to take part in it as well. She felt a little pity.

Entering the tent, Altadis met a woman dressed in elegant clothing, who seemed to be the princess by the sound of her words and precious voice. If that wasn't regal, what was?

Altadys prostrated before the woman, "I...I was sent by Minwu the Priest."

The raptoran was silent. It looked like Altadys didn't have a choice. The Elder's story, and kindness, seemed genuine. Maybe the best way to face the situation was to go with it and meet this princess. Alta got up and would make her way towards the Princess's test.

What will I do now? Altadys sat up on the bed to ponder over everything. Was this a bad dream? After being knocked out, how was she cast off to an unknown place of refugees? Then, the elder by her talked about being an expected hero, and throwing herself into danger to save the strangers of this place. The bird girl slowly shook her head because these thoughts crossed her mind. A hero? The idea repeated itself. It could've been a deceit, it could've bene not true, she might've been in the hands of the enemy, one she probably stood no chance against.

"Elder forgive me. How do I know that you're telling the truth?" Altadys turned her head, staring at the old man with sharp eyes, "How do you I know I'm not in danger?"

Hero? That was quite an amazing story she had heard, like from her days as a little hatchling. But, it was tough to digest after she had just woken up from a bad wound on her head. This was especially about the part about her being a hero. She would've never imagined. Altadys rubbed her head again.

"You see me as a hero? What can I possibly do?"

Pherae? Fynn? Maybe it was from harsh knock on the head, but she had no clue what was being said. Neither places didn't sound like home; and if she was elsewhere, and someone took the liberty to help her, and not bind her like a prisoner, maybe she was in good hands. The young humanoid covered in feathers got up slowly after the elder took off her bandage. She was still in a bit of a daze, bringing up a clawed hand up to her head.

"My name...?" she said. It felt safe to reveal it, "It's...Altadys."

Slowly, regaining consciousness, her eyes parted open and she awoke with an audible groan. The place she was in wasn't very clear at first, the surroundings still a blur. Her head was still dizzy. Looking up, she noticed the shape of someone standing over her and his voice. The voice of an elder?

"Ah...where? Where am I?"

Dragon: That sounds very interesting! I looked up it up on Wiki...but, it's an old book. How dependable is Amazon? Also, something else did intrigue me from one of the Amazon reviews:

>>Rather than being written either as a sort of record of someone's favorite character in a game, or as a publicity/demonstration piece for some gaming system or mechanic, Paksenarrion was born (according to an email exchange I had with the author) from bad roleplaying: Elizabeth Moon, not gaming herself, heard some people playing "Paladins" (Holy warriors in the service of a god) and doing so very poorly. Her reaction was of course that "such a person wouldn't ACT like that"...<<

Lol, how badly are we talking? Anyone with personal examples?

Sibel: That's a nice thought! Fear is only natural. The fear immunity sounds very magical and doesn't make the paladin a complete human. I don't think some fear destroys complete valor.

Okay, be nice. Here we go!

Lots of complicated things provoke thought from me and I try not to be shallow. As for a paladin, things like a person's upbringing (or any char), maintaining honor and loyalty, I know about that.

There's no wrong or right answer...right?

So one day I asked myself: Why do they [ Paladins ] exist in D&D-based worlds? Why are there very few? Is it for the convenience of the setting (as it, because of their abilities, there should be few in number) or something else?

Why would a God create one? To make the hero contiune being a good example for the planet and God itself?

Paladin handbook covers different ways as to how a person becomes a paladin but why choose that person? Aren't there a ton of people who carries exquisite faith in their God?

There isn't a truly pure or perfect person? Thus, a paladin is capable of making mistakes and getting its powers/position revoked.

The greatest heroes in medieval times or myth have long or magnetic stories about their feats. So I thought that maybe that's why paladins are so few -- they reflect these people and earned such honor.

I guess becoming a great hero, like in out time, requires a lot of faith and courage. It's a beautiful thing. With that, it could be said that you truly do have a God on your side. Cept in D&D, it's taken to another level.

But I make it seem that faith/courage just builds up unconsciounesly. A paladin is required to pay tithes, so there's a God attachment that has to be withheld. Religion is not negotiable and they were prettttttttty religious back then. God is above all, and all there is left to think over is justice and good.

What do you think of this?
