Why does the Miss Goody-Two Shoes think Destiny is a Firefly? Grace is having a sudden urge to leave her room to correct her.

That isn't the only place she put them. She put them where she figured people trying to board would be/go. But that is a minor detail...

A more accurate response from Grace would more likely to be something along the lines of "Okay, sure, who's paying for the cologne and the spare air scrubbers?"

I agree with not letting Seth having any plans. He may be there for security but Grace would really not want the bodyguard to know where all her hidden path ways are.

Do we even have the plans for Destiny or is it assumed that Grace has made some and keeps them in her room?

Subject: Back posting

Grace tried to keep her breathing normal so she wouldn’t appear so anxious. The New girl was rather perceptive and Grace was not giving her any clues about what was going to be said. Call her stupid but Grace hated talking about her past. Partially due to the stings of the betrayals but a larger part was the anxiety of things changing. Mention that you are the daughter of a very rich man and people treated you differently. Some act like you’re a delicate flower, others act like you are an ignorant idiot. Sure the Captain and Quing Ting already knew her story but that never eases the fear. Part of her worried that there was some line, like if they knew just enough, that things would change and she wouldn’t be ‘Twitchy Grace’ to them anymore. She would be back to being ‘Grace Lin.’

So it was only after she was positive that she had their attention, and that everyone else was out of hearing range that she finally said “There is something else, I need to tell you. I actually know Templeton Steele personally.”

Grace crossed her arms and hunched her shoulders as she explained “He was a family friend and sort of like an uncle. The only reason why I am bringing it up is because I have reasons to believe he earned a black mark with the companion guild.”

(OOC: Assuming a ‘why is that important?’ or something similar)

“It could be important, maybe not. I just figured it was better if I shared it then kept it to myself.” explained Grace

(OOC: Assuming: ‘Why didn’t you share this with everyone?’)

Grace frowned before commenting “I don’t trust Catie, therefore I am not going talk about my past in front of her. Simple as that. Not to mention she is a little too good of an actress to earn my trust”

(OOC: Grace will ignore any comments about her being too twitchy. I am leaving this open for any further interaction.)

Subject: Quiet thoughts

“Ok, I don’t need to do all the talk’n, Tess, Grace, J.C. what you all find out today?”

For once, Grace wasn’t the first to spill all the information she had learned. She had researched Lilianna Fairchild as planned and found out some other names and figured out some things. These people were the sort of people that Grace had been once surrounded by and really she didn’t believe that the girl was a threat. The Father stank of trouble but Lilianna was just some empty airhead listening to her daddy’s orders. It was the bridegroom that was making Grace hesitate to talk.

That Templeton Steele…was…her Uncle Steel. He had once worked with her father and the only person who had ever encouraged her interest in machines. Even now, she had memories of going to those parties she hated and the only good part was that Uncle Steel would always talk to her. He had found her gift fascinating and half of her engineering books had been presents from him. She had loved getting his attention and loved how he spoke to her as if she was an adult rather than some shiny doll to show off then tossed aside when the topic had moved on.

Now that Grace thought about it, she also remembered how he would always have these beautiful women come with him to her Father’s party. She mostly remembered them only because Uncle Steel would always politely excuse himself to go speak to her father, but always suggest that Grace tried talking to these women. Grace didn’t mind because these ladies had always been smart and even if they didn’t understand engines, Grace found she could easily talk to them about her studies or learn something interesting from them. Now as a child, Grace had thought these ladies were Uncle Steel’s girlfriends, but thinking about it now, Grace realized they must have been companions.

Then, abruptly, it changed. She remembered after one party, her father remarking that ‘Templeton had better change his ways.’ After that party, Uncle Steel would make their conversations shorter and shorter and his female friends had also changed. They were still as beautiful as before but that’s all they had, Grace couldn’t talk to them about anything. When Grace mentioned it to her mother, she had laughed and told Grace that not everyone enjoyed studying as much as she did (Mother refused to acknowledge the fact that Grace was good with engines so Grace knew better to complain about the shorter talks with Uncle Steel) After Uncle Steel starting ignoring her completely, Grace started faking illness to avoid the parties and the airheads.

Uncle…er…Templeton must have done something to earn a black mark with the Companion Guild. That’s why they changed. He has changed- wait no, he must have always been like that. It’s easy to hide things from a child. Don’t try and soften the truth, Grace, that makes you blind to it. You were the daughter of one of his business partners; he had to play nice around you. Now stop being a child and grow up. Does it matter that you knew him as a child? Does it help the situation? Would this info help the Captain?

Grace stared off into space as she thought it through. Maybe, he is getting married to this girl. If he’s earned a black mark, he might not the sort of person we want to be marrying anyone, let alone the daughter of a wealthy Baron. The captain would want to know. It could be important. But I am not mentioning my past with Catie in the room. I haven’t even told Angela or J.C yet, and I have more reasons to trust them then this new girl. I will need to talk to Tess and Jon in private…

“What did you find out Gracie?” asked Tess, startling Grace out of her thoughts. Grace suddenly turned her head back to the group and realized they were looking at her rather expectantly. She looked back in confusion before realizing that they were waiting for her to speak up.

“Oh…um…not much really. Lilianna is a goody-two shoes who has a lot of wealth and, because she happens to give bits of it away, everyone calls her a princess. But, the only reason why she gives it away is thanks to her mother and she probably likes being a media darling. I ain’t getting a good impression of her father; he’s a wealthy man who figures he can get an heir out of his daughter and figures that easier than raising his own.” Grace’s explained, pretending she wasn’t aware of the fact that her face was imitating her hair right now.

“The Groom’s name is Templeton Steele. Steel is a businessman who sold weapons to both sides of the war. It made him pretty wealthy but neither side likes him. The only reason why he hasn’t been assassinated or ‘died due to an unfortunate accident’ is because he’s got enough money to pay for people’s love and creating weapons that the
military wants.” she finished.

Grace remained quiet after that and waited for the meeting to come to an end. As everyone finished up and started to leave, Grace approached Tess and Jon and asked

“Can I have a word with you?”

“Which is why I make the tea,” Tess emphasized. She pulled out her chipped tea set and a tin of jasmine. The exquisite tea that Uncle Benny had given her just before her stay on Rocinante had long run out, but the blue patterned cups and teapot he gifted had managed to survive.

"Blue. Definitely a good choice." Catie observed as she sat down by the counter. Grace flopped into one of the other chairs, not particularly worrying about proper behavior in front of a guest.

“Look,” Tess said as she filled a pot with water and set it on the stove, “like I said before, the meetin’ were a bit hairy. Ang managed to smooth the rough bits over, but Jon did have his tongued tied six ways from Sunday with that huen dahn. The jist of it is that we’re pickin’ up a girl in the middle of the night, in the middle of gorram nowhere, with her weddin’ planner and body guard. Takin’ her to a fancy ship to git married as fast as we can git her there. Come back an’ git paid.”

“Why is a crime lord interested in a wedding? What are we supposed to do after delivering her, rob from the guests? Who are they anyway?” asked Grace in confusion.

“That reminds me.” Tess leaned forward on the counter, “We’re takin’ on two of our employer’s boys. He were pretty hush hush about the whole manner. Summit’ about doing a job fer him on that cruise we’re headin’ to. Can’t say I’m complainin’. They’re purty nice eye candy.”

Catie chuckled, "Guessing they're more than eye candy though, especially if the whole thing is supposed to be quiet." She considered it a moment, "The more people involved, the less quiet it probably will be, and that's four instead of two." She paused, her eyes spotting something, and turned around. Grace glanced behind her to see Jon.

“ After ya’ll finish put Catie’s things up in room eight. Tess, check the stores and be sure we have enough for the trip, I don’t plan to feed the folk fancy but we need something more than paste. If you need, head out and resupply. You can take Catie along to help. Grace, check the systems….. get the port fee paid, we should lift off around 1:30 to be there waiting by 2……. and refuel as best we can. If you need some more credits let me know, I’ll see what I can find….. Be sure Angela and JC get fed. I’ll have JC check the rooms and get room ten ready for Badger's men. We’ll put temporary partition up in a room so Ms. Fairchild’s bodyguard can share it. When everything’s secure get yourselves some rest.”

“Ummm…Captain I already paid-” started Grace but the captain walked away before she could finish her sentence. Huh, guess the talk with Stephanie didn’t go so well. She thought to herself

"Well, if we're to figure out if we need groceries, we should probably figure out a menu and meal plan. He wasn't exactly clear on the budget either, but that usually means 'minimal expense'." said Catie as she rubbed the back of her head.

Catie brought her hands together as she leaned on the counter, muttering something before asking: "Well, to start with, does anyone have any particular allergies or likes and dislikes that I should be aware of?" Catie asked. Grace glanced at Angela, have expecting her to voice her love for caffeine when she suddenly noticed that the woman looked about ready to cry or throw up or find a way to do both. She was immediately concerned and asked, “Angela, you ok? Do you…uh” Grace tried to think of the right phrase, “need to debrief?"

Angela turned wide eyes to the mechanic but just looked to Catie and then back at Grace, the hesitation written on her face. At first Grace didn’t understand, then she realized that Angela was making sure it was okay to speak in front of Catie. She gave her a sympathetic look and said

"Yeah, I get it, but I got a feeling Catie's along for the ride. Stephanie's dug in her heels and Jon didn't look like he won the argument. She' s gonna need to know if she's got a chance at helping you, I mean, us. "

Angela's shoulders slumped and she cradled Tess' teacup in her two hands like it was the most fragile thing in the world, and when she looked back up at Tess and then Grace, her eyes were brimming with unshed tears.

“I disobeyed, Grace," Angela practically whispered as she spoke, “You told me to relax and not draw attention to myself. I didn't do that so well. I couldn't help it...the deal was going south and we need this job, right?" Angela pitch was starting to raise in her panic and Grace was wondering what could have possibly have gone wrong, "And I guess that was part of keeping everybody safe 'cause I just found myself speaking up and Badger seemed to like it...and then Jon agreed to everything and it's a bad deal, Grace! We're in deep kimchee and it's all my fault."

“Yer darn tootin’ right it’s a bad deal,” Tess said flatly, “but it ain’t yer fault, jei-jei, no way. Had we known beforehand he’d take so kindly to yah, things might’n have gone down a bit different like. In a good way,” she paused and cocked her eyebrow at Angela.

“Point is,” the pilot moved to sit down at the table, “Capt’n’s had his knickers in a twist fer a while now, and that ain’t nobody’s fault but his own. I’m thinkin’ it might’n be time fer me to knock a little sense into that thick skull of his. In the meanwhile, we honor our word and do the job. Better to be shovelin’ frozen manure fer pennies on the dollar than going back on an oath.”

Grace look back and forth between Tess and Angela in complete confusion. She was getting two different stories from people. She kneaded her forehead mentally wondering how her life got so strange before commenting: “Okay, I’m confused. Did you kill someone again?”

“N-no,” Angela stammered, ”What do you mean, again?”

“We have the job so…What’s the problem?” Grace responded, waving away Angela’s question.

“You told me to stay in the background, and not only did I not do that, I took over negotiations…and now we’ve got a bad deal,” Angela countered, but already, she was sounding calmer.

“Angel, no one’s dead and we got the job. You didn’t ‘disobey’ my orders; you just… took creative license with them. Everything is okay…and as for the deal? ” Grace snorted before continuing “When do we NOT have a terrible deal? We’ll figure something out.”

Angela set her cup down carefully and placed her hands flat on the table, pressing down on the table in a way that almost seemed meditative. She was clearly considering Grace’s words, and finally looked back up, tilting her head.

“So…you don’t think the Captain’s angry with me? I’m afraid I made him look bad, but I was trying to stop us from losing face.”

“Oh if Jon was angry at you, he would have told you. Trust me, I have seen him angry, that was the face he makes when everything keeps blowing up in his face. He is so not angry,” Grace paused before adding, “And neither am I, fyi. You did a good job.”

“Now Ang, if ya’ll want to come into resupply with Catie and I, yer more than welcome. Though it might’n be a good idea to do a little journalin’? If Catie could be so kind as to be fixin’ breakfast for the both of us early, I’ll be waiting outside yer door with a tray after yer mornin’ rituals. Give us a chance to debrief before we see to our new passengers. No orders, just girl talk. Sound good?” offered Tess

“Why don’t you go with Quing Ting? I am going to go research this ‘Ms. Fairchild’ that the Captain mentioned. See if I can figure out why someone like Badger would be interested in playing courier for her. That will keep you busy.” said Grace.

(Leaving room for further interaction, otherwise, Grace will conclude with: )

“If you need me, I will be in my room. Call me if you need me,” she said as she walked off

Subject: Mom and Dad are fighting!

"I don't see why it can't be both." She replies, "When you don't have a home, you're not tied to just one place, and traveling lets you experience more. But the reason for me not having a home," She raises a finger to her lips, "That's... a secret."

Pure confusion ran through Grace and only thanks to 16 years of etiquette training, Grace did not express her confusion with the always intelligent sounding “huh?” The whole point about having a secret is you don’t admit you have a secret, unless you want to share said secret, in which case, it isn’t a secret, it’s gossip. And she didn’t ask for gossip! Normally that sort of question would get her an outraged response (or as she called it: a good actor), a confused reaction (a better actor) or a stuttering denial (a poor actor).

Catie paused before she laughed, "Well, not entirely." Catie looked over at Grace, "I guess I grew up. I'd consider it like after when parents and teenagers sometimes fight. I just left, and haven't found a new home yet." She added honestly.

This confused Grace even more. Was that a denial of a secret or was that the actually secret? In which case, this girl was not a thre…wait a minute. Suddenly a through struck Grace and the confusion vanished and the urge to laugh hit her. It had been a long time since anyone had played the game with her. Grace smiled in impish delight.

“Well, if you consider leaving home because of a fight to be a secret, you and I share something in common. It’s a da chung wu dahn secret, but a common one.”
Grace paused and did a pretend pose of someone thinking.

“Of course, everyone has their secrets. The da chung wu dahn secrets and the ones we never want to see the sun. Some people hide them by pretending they don’t exsist. Others,” Grace met Catie eye’s with a challenge colouring her tone, “hide them with other yong chwen mien secrets and pretend that the big one.”

(OOC: Assuming Catie was confused or just changed subjects)

"You know, Stephanie mentioned that it's as though you are mentally linked to this vessel." Catie brought up, "I've heard of that sort of thing before, but never really met someone who could. What I would like to know is, do you think they have feelings? Even if it's not really like ours."

This time, Grace ignored the 16 years of etiquette training and laughed at the idea. Sounds like Tess and Catie would get along.

“Machines don’t have feelings. They are pieces of metal that worked together to get a job done. They don’t have a mind to them” she explained in between giggles.

(OOC: assuming Catie want to argue against that comment)

“Look, Catie, machines don’t have feelings. The closes thing I have to a ‘mental connection’ to the engine is that I happen to be a good listener and Destiny is a good talker.” Grace explained

(OOC: Assuming Catie being confused)

“All engines have a sound to them. When they are running the way they are supposed to, they make a particular sound. A good mechanic knows the sound an engine makes when it needs help. Same way a doctor can listen to a heartbeat and know whether or not it healthy or sick. I can hear Destiny ‘heartbeat’ in the engine so I can usually tell when it need some help.”

Just then, Grace could hear footsteps heading there way and remembered Tess saying they would be back soon. She glanced their way and gave a half wave when they entered. She also shot Jon a look of ‘See? I behaved while you were gone! Now what’s with not telling me about the new girl?’

“Everyone. This is Catie Yueshi. Catie, this is Jon, Angela, Tess and JC. Catie is a colleague of mine that is well versed with prosthetics and genetics. I thought she might be able to help us so I invited her to join us.”

Jon snaps a concerned looked at Stephanie, “You’ve invited her to….. join us? You never said anything about needing help.”

Crossing her arms and leveling an icy look at Jon, “She needs a place to stay Jon.......Much like many on this ship already, she needs a place where she can stay off the grid and out of the watchful eye. Of course, if this is a problem, I am sure that there are other ships that could find room for two well trained medical personnel.”

Jon didn’t know that Catie was joining the crew? Part of Grace felt bad for blaming Jon and another part of her was surprised at Stephanie’s behaviour. Not that Grace had any right to judge, she did things behind Jon’s back as well…of course, she had never added new crew members without permission… oh wait, Angela was here because of Grace…yeah, no reason to judge at all….

“As Stephanie mentioned, I have a background in medical science, but I wouldn't say I'm too specialized. I have had numerous part time jobs, including being a waitress, chef, tech support aide, and nurse." Catie began, before Jon interrupted.

“Miss I don’t mean to be rude but you and the rest of crew need to leave Stephanie and me for a bit.” Jon who ushered them out before closed the door behind them.

“Well looks like Mommy and Daddy are fighting,” commented Grace sarcastically, “We better give the love bird’s room to breathe.”

Catie didn’t react and seemed to be muttering under her breath and J.C was heading to his room.

"So, has this happened before or is this a first?" Catie asked, "If they might be a while, perhaps we should move someplace more comfortable." She suggested, "This vessel does have a galley, right?"

“Yeah, we have a kitchen. Maybe Quing Ting could come with us and explain exactly what happened and what our new job. I also suspect Angela might be hungry.” offered Grace. Then to her own surprise and maybe some others, Grace looped her arm through Caties’ and began to pull her to the gallery.
“Besides you did offer to make tea and who knows? Maybe you will be the first to actually teach me how to make tea. Cause for some reason, I can rebuild entire ship engines, but somehow always manage to burn the tea.”

Subject: Stranger Danger! Stranger Danger!

It was during these dull moments that Grace would really start to wish she was more capable of doing more than fix Destiny. She had already checked the rooms, re-stocked her hidden pantry and had a quick look over the engines. Now she was lying on her bed, wishing everyone would hurry up and come back. She was bored silly and not knowing what was going on with her friends was making her twitchy. Well…more so than usual. She started to debate between having a cat nap or reading when suddenly the speakers sprung to life and Stephanie’ voice called

"Grace! Could you come to the Infirmary? I have someone you should meet. She is a friend of mine."

Grace scowled. She had learned from experience that usually when Stephanie wanted Grace to meet a friend of hers, it was usually a special kind of doctor… Knowing better than to ignore the call and make Stephanie look silly, Grace got up and started heading to the infirmary. However Grace was going to give Stephanie a talking to. She used the lift as a short cut and began talking even before entering.

“Look Stephanie, I appreciate you care and this is your way of showing it but could you please stop bringing shrinks to speak to me. I’m not paranoid, I’m just…” Grace cut herself off when she saw Stephanie’s ‘friend.’ Either shrinks were getting younger or this was not who she thought it was… The woman was only a little older then Grace, and she didn’t waver even when Grace was looking at her in suspicion.

"Grace, this is Catie Yueshi. She is a colleague of mine who is an expert on genetics and prosthetic implants. I asked her to join us in order to get more help with JC and Angela. She is a good friend and I trust her Grace, so you can as well." explained Stephanie, the subtly message of ‘she isn’t a shrink, now be nice’ could be heard in her tone.

Catie bowed her head in greeting as Grace entered, before looking up and giving a smile, "Other previous occupations include waitress, chef, nurse, janitor, programmer, and tech support aide. All part time, and not all at once of course." She chuckled, "Although tuition certainly tried to get me to at one point." She motioned towards another chair, beckoning Grace to sit if it made her more comfortable. Grace looked at Catie, then to the offered chair before glancing at Stephanie.

“By join do you mean for a short period of time or as part of the crew?” asked Grace stiffly. Normally if new members were joining, Jon would give her heads up. If Jon thought that the sink or swim technique would work on Grace’s ability to make friends, he was in for a world of surprise…

(OOC: Assuming someone is going to confirm that Catie is part of the crew now.)

Grace’s face soured before an incredibly forced smile replaced it. She would like it if the universe stopped dumping strangers into her life. First Angela, then J.C and now Catie? She was not good with strangers; she would like less people to adjust to! Wait a minute, why was an expert brain doctor here? Didn’t they all live with the Alliance? And why so many part time jobs?

"Do you happen to have a kettle? Perhaps we could have some tea." Catie suggested, looking around in such a way that made Grace suspected she was nervous. Well if she was a new crew member and no one was going to warn Grace to be on her toes, Grace wasn’t going to hold back on the para-err cautiousness.

“Tea sounds like a great idea, but before we do that, I want to get to know you, Catie.” said Grace sitting down beside the new girl. A little smirk was on her face as she looked at Catie.

(OOC: Assuming Catie not going to run away)

“If you don’t mind me asking, are you a travelling type of gal or are you just running away?”

After everyone left the common area, Grace signaled to Angela that she wanted to talk to her. Angela smiled and naturally went up to Grace, perfectly cheerfully. A sudden anxious feeling hit Grace which she squashed down. Jon told everyone what to do and he never sweated bullets or doubted himself so Grace tried to imitate him as she spoke to Angela.

“Okay, Angela, I have a job for you.” started Grace

(OOC: assuming an okay or some sign of acknowledgement)

“You are going with the Captain to talk to this Badger guy. Your job is to make sure everyone comes home safe.” continued Grace trying to ignore the fact that it looked rather silly for her to be giving the taller woman instruction.

(OOC: again assuming a nod)

“However, don’t do what you did those Tong members, okay? These guys are going to pay us and you can’t kill the wallet. You do know how to knock people out, right?” asked Grace

Angela seemed to think about it before nodding confidently

“Okay, good. So if the deal goes sour and they draw guns and Jon tells you to act, knock ‘em out. Jon doesn’t like killing and my friend won’t be happy with me. Meanwhile, just relax and don’t draw attention to yourself, okay?” explained Grace

(OOC: Assuming an okay)

“Alright, go get what you need and good luck” finished Grace, hoping that her nervousness wasn’t too obvious. Hopefully she was warning Angela for no reason.

Persephone, Eavesdown Docks, On Board Destiny, 6:00 pm ST

Grace had a feeling that this job would be a go, and since it involved passengers, she decided to check all the passenger rooms – just to make sure there were no surprises. Not that there were any reasons to expect surprises, but to Grace’s way of thinking, that was the best time to check for them. It was also a way to keep herself busy while she waited. Grace never liked to nap during the times her crewmembers were gone and she slept better when the engines were going. Once she felt assured that everything was on order (well… at least in this amount of time. Technically she could strip the rooms down to make sure nothing was hidden in the walls or floor boards but there was no way she could do all that and then get all the room back to normal in time. Captain would not be pleased with her if she did that), she also checked the now spare rooms on the main floor.

Finally done, Grace passed Angela rather small room and mentally wondered if she should offer to build her friend a little food pantry, much like Grace had in her own room. Angela was often hungry and it might help in the mornings if she had a source of food to eat in her own room. Grace had her quirks and Angela had her own so Grace wasn’t one to judge. Considering she would be hiding until the passengers were on board. Then Grace wondered if her own supply of food (hidden in her room) would last the job.

There was no way; Grace would be leaving her room. So with a new task in mind, Grace headed towards the kitchen, planning to raid the pantry to re-fill her emergency food supply.

Problem with transition years, so many thing to do...

About the whole Angela thing, I can write a port of Grace giving Angela some instructions and make sure Ody and Van approve before posting. Mostly telling her to keep everyone safe but no killing unless Jon says it okay.

Out of curiosity, what typical is in a crewmen's room? I assume a bed and any personal stuff but I was wondering if there is a place for Grace to hide some food. Strangers are on Destiny so Grace will be hiding for a while

Subject: Hello everyone!

Grace wasn’t the mourning type. During her life; Grace had seen many people get hurt and die. So she wasn’t going to be seen crying into her pillow or looking around the room with sad eyes. Grace considered tears to be like a red flag to a bull, tears told others you had been hurt and with all of that Grace had been through, you can bet that she wasn’t going to let anyone know she was hurting.

She would never admit that while fixing Destiny, she had felt lonely and missed the sounds of her fellow crew members. Nor would she talk about how she had bad days back then, days where the grief would be so hard on her stomach, Grace wouldn’t get out of bed. She would never say how she had tip toed around Ken and Jason’s room, because she was almost scared to make too much noise. She would die first before telling anyone how much she had been happy to have Angela around before she contacted the rest of the crew, despite her first mistrust of the girl.

Ken’s death had hit her the hardest. Ken’s personality and behavior had been very similar to another friend of Graces’, one that had died long ago. Without thinking about it, Grace had started caring for Ken much like she had cared for that past friend, and with his death, a new and old wound had opened. It had stung so much, that Grace had even grabbed one of the handguns Ken left behind as a reminder of him, because holding it made the pain ease just a little.

Jason’s death hurt too. While Grace and Jason hadn’t always agreed about how one should treat strangers, (Grace: Keep them away, Jason: Let’s welcome them!), Grace had respected him. She knew he was a good man and the universe needed good men in it. Yet the only fault that the good always seems to have is, that it is taken away far too quickly.

Grace just kept moving forwards, finding jobs for the crew and doing her job. She had still had a life to live and she would shed her tears when ten minutes had passed after her final breath.

Persephone, Eavesdown Docks, Destiny Common room, 1:00pm ST

They were all gathered in the Common area, when Grace said her good news

“I got us a job and with the way this guy works, we won’t have to worry about the smell scaring him off. I had a line on a local underworld boss by the name of Badger who is looking for a fast ship to ferry five passengers to a cruise ship for a big event. People have to be there on time, no delays. Badger is a criminal thug with delusions of grandeur but he has connects and a lot of jobs. A good run could make our reputation. The meeting is set up for 6 pm to discuss the job and payment, at the Badger’s office.” she explained

“What do you know of this “Badger’?” Tess asked Grace.

“I don’t know him well. He’s a crime lord who thinks he got a throne instead of a stool. He’d sell his own mother for enough coin but he’s well connected. We impress him and we are set. Besides you know me. I trust people less than I can throw them” replied Grace

“Underworld Bosses aren’t the most trustworthy and besides his name doesn’t really instill a lot of trust,” Tess finished with a faint chuckle.

Jon listened to various comments and then said,” We need the work and this doesn’t sound too risky. I’ll have to do the negotiating myself, but I’ll need back up… that’s not the nicest area. JC… you been around here so I hope you’ll know what and who to watch out for. Maybe they’ll see you all spiffed up and folks’ll think twice before crossing us……… Tess it’ll be easier to get the particulars of how to get where were going if you can ask um yourself. Second hand info ain’t always clear…….Angela” Jon sighed as he remember her action in the alley “I want you to come too, Grace will get you any special instruction if they are needed”

Grace smirked a little before saying “Don’t worry Captain; I’ll stay on the ship and away from trouble. Assuming it stays away from me.”

What will you do?

Hey, little boy
What's up with you?
Are you wondering,
why the words are so cruel?
Why can't they understand?
They look at you
with some fear.
You are tall and strong
and they are small and weak
They say what they want
They think it okay
Because you can't be hurt.

Hey, little boy
What will you do?
When the rumors turn to someone else?
Will you be sad for her?
Or glad for you?
When she falls,
Will you walk away?
Or will you extend your hand?

Hey, little girl
What's up with you?
Are you wondering,
why the words are so cruel?
Why can't they understand?
They look at you
with some pity
You can't hear
but they can speak
What right do they have?
Words don't have to be heard
to be understood

Hey, little girl
What will you do?
When you fall
because you are tired of it all
Will you cry of your pain?
or of their ignorance?
When he offers his hand
Will you slap away, to stay cold?
Or will you grasp it for strength?

Hey, bullies
What's up with you?
Are you wondering
why I called you that?
Why can't you understand?
Bullying isn't just a fight
Words can hurt
just like a slap
I hope you know
even if you are just one
or even if you are many
It just takes two to take you down.

What will you do?
When your victims grow strong
and you don't matter
Will you look for another?
Or will you finally realize?
No matter how many you hurt
They will grow strong
and they will leave you behind.

(Hope people like. This one I am posting for a friend. She going through a hard time so I hope this cheers her up.)

Hey guys.

Today my friend, Divine, was telling me that she has been introduced to D&D. She had been playing with her brothers and cousain and told me how much she loved it. Naturally I was overjoyed to have someone to talk to about D&D. So we were talking about different editions, class and so on.

Then while we were telling funny stories, my friends, Peach and Crown came along. They overhear our conversation and got curious. Divine and I explained the idea of D&D to them so they could understand. Immeditaly both said they wanted to try it.

Divine and I were delighted. While we were talking all three asked that I be the DM. I agreed because I was the one with the most experience. However I am not sure of how to do this. Divine has played 3.5 additon and I play 2.0 edition. Peach and Crown are completely new. How do I do the charatcher sheets and explanation for them? What edition should I use? What modulale?

Any adivce would be appericated

(Note: My friends names are not Divine, Peach and Crown. I made that up.)

Grace had barely gotten into the engine room when the comm. blared out "Brace yourself!" Grace had time to blink before the everything went crazy. The ground lurched under her feet and Grace fell onto her back. Then to her annoyance (but she was expecting it) the lights went off and the engines went dead. Great, a explosion and an EMP blast.

Grace got up as soon as the ground was not moving but already she could hear Ken and Jon yelling.
“We’re under attack!” Ken’s shout came “Ready to repel boarders! Where the hell are the emergency lights?”

Jon shouted, “Tess, it’s an EMP, we’re open to boarding. Find any hand lights you can and listen for something trying to latch on. There was something more than just that Arrowhead out there. The earn boy didn’t succeed so that’s the price of failure. This was too High Tech for the Tong, more likely we got a Marauder out there. This trap ain’t closed yet.”

More than wishing that she had infrared goggles, Grace felt around for the door, as soon as she found it, she leaned out and called "The back-up is okay! The emergency lights and power will be on in five minutes!"

"I’m headed to the main airlock, someone watch the Hover Bay in case they latch on there,” echoed Ken’s voice .

“Good idea. Jason can you grab a weapon and cover the Hover Bay? Tess can you stay here and be ready for when power comes back on, you need to hold the bridge. Maybe our Lady will add her blessing to us, if anyone can see in the dark it’ll be her.” came Jon voice

Not knowing if they heard her or not, Grace looked for her workbench knowing that there was stuff there that she needed. She found it easily. She grabbed her small snap-light and the butterfly knife. She slipped the knife into her pocket and clicked on her snap-light. The light was dim but it was better than nothing. Grace knew that a gun would have been better but that was in her room and emergency power or not, she need to fix the engine. As she started, Grace remember how everyone had thought she was being paranoid when she was wrapping the essential systems in electrical tape.

"It is not being paranoid, it is being prepared. Always expect the unexpected."

(OOC. If Stephanie comes in, Grace will wave her away and say something like "You should go hide" or "Ken, Jason and Captain are on guard duty in the cargo bay.")

If my theory is correct, Howard is working for the Tong. Which would explain why Norm was so terrified when he spotted Howard and tried to hide his deal making for 'trying his luck with the ladies.' I bet he made Norm talk, then sent a note to his buddies hoping for a reward. The fact that Norm isn't answering our call doesn't help with disproving my theory.

The Tong is still a type of mafia. They may speak highly of honour but I am pretty sure they don't do nice/hounourable things. I think we should tell them that we are on a tight scheduale and don't have time to dock or talk. Yes they can give us jobs but we might get trapped in one of thier contracts. Not to metion bad things happen to thoose who work for/against the tong.

Grace quietly packed up the X-Ray machine and wheeled it to the doctor's room. Her thoughts were bouncing back and forth but the one that was constantly repeating was This is why we shouldn't trust rich folks. One Refuses to pay us, the second turns out to having personal problems and the final one dumps diamonds in our lap.
Once the machines were pack in place and she had placed the lead blanket back where they belonged. That's when her stomach grumbled and Grace realized she was starving. Quietly Grace went to the gallery. She was feeling too hungry to make herself a complete meal so she just grabbed one of the packages of instant oatmeal. She put some water in the pot to boil it. Grace was ripping open the package when she accidently gave herself a paper cut.
"Ouch!" yelped Grace dropping the package and looking at the small cut. It was starting to bleed. Grace put her finger into her mouth while looking around for something to wrap it with. The memory popped in her head.

"Grace! Pay attention!" snapped Sensei. Grace looked up from her doodles, feeling bored. Sensei immediately pulled the paper off the desk and gave her a rather annoyed look.
"History is important , Grace. If you don't know it, you will repeat it." he gruffly stated. "Now, back On-The-Earth-That -Was, there were many wars in poor countries. Do you remember what these countries used to fund these wars?"
"Money?" guessed Grace. She knew this was the wrong answer but sometimes she liked watching Sensei rant.
"NO! Blood diamonds! This is why you should be paying attention! Blood Diamonds are-" Yelled Sensei before Grace interrupted with-
"Diamonds that have been minded in poverty strike countries to buy weapons to use in wars. They got the name due to the fact these diamonds caused a lot of deaths." Sensei gave her a sharp look while looking slightly embarrassed. "Sensei, I doubt I really need to know this. There aren't any wars in this time period." She continued
Sensei looked at her calmly before stating "There are always wars Grace, however with some neither side has won yet."

Norm backs away from the table, as if ready to bolt.

"Norm Sellers? Is that you?" the man at the bar says as if surprised.

"Norm stops and smiles a nervous smile, "Howard! What you doing here?"

"I was going to ask you the same thing Norm." Howard replies.

"Right! I'm ...right. Red-heads!" He says and points towards Grace, "Can't resist them right? But she brushes me off right? Never had the luck with the ladies like you do right?'

"Ahh yes. Are you going back to the vineyard?"

"Huh? Oh! Right! Yeah! back to the vinyard, got work to do right and wine to make right."

"My MX is outside, I'll give you a lift."

Norm nods, "Yeah right. Sure. If you are going that way."

Howard gets up and puts his arm around Norm, "No problem for a good friend and business partner." and the two head out the door to leave you with a bottle and a half of wine and a new cargo for which to make plans.

Howard Lim was also a wine merchant but new to the game, without the credentials of norm but with a lot of cash to invest in land and different techniques of harvest. Sounds like Tong money laundering to Grace.

What would the Tong do with diamonds?

Grace suddenly didn't feel hungry and felt almost a little sick. She glanced up to see Jon and Ken heading to the bridge. Trying to get her mind off the her paranoid idea, she followed them up and caught the ending of thier conversation.

“Arrowhead class?” Ken snorted, “they are fast and probably equal in speed to us in normal but at a hard burn we got them on speed and we would be more maneuverable.” Ken didn’t bother to explain how he would know such things but went on.

“Besides,” Ken smirked at Tess again, “they aren’t good enough to out fly Tess here.”

“Now as for guns,” Ken shrugged, “they wouldn’t have any armament on that thing, not with the way the Feds are about such things. We got guns onboard, but only need to worry about that if they catch us. Also that is a small ship, 2 man crew and 2 passengers normally, and not able to carry many people aboard for any length of time with life support constraints. But I would still think you want to avoid a firefight onboard if possible.”

“I say we tell them to buzz off,” Ken finished up, “then haul ass out of here.” Ken shook his head as he didn’t seem to believe he was saying it himself, “I know; I wish I could figure out a way to give up the goods for that kind of scratch and not be hounded by the guys that hired us but frankly I can’t!”

Graced covered a small grin with her hand. You might have your rough edges but you are a lot better then you give yourself credit, Ken thought Grace

“Ain’t ones to go back on our word, Ken,” Tess agreed, still working on the console, “Cap’n, I ain’t worried about getting there, I’m worried what’ll happen when we git there. Might’n be a good idea to have Jason phone ahead. Let ‘em know what happened. May even git a little ground support, If he asked real nice. I’m trying to get a location on the Arrowhead, at least have some idea as to where they’re holed up.”

"I agree with Ken. I got a bad feeling about these guys. They know more than we do about this situation. I can see if I can get Destiny to give us a good push. We may be go faster but some race are won through stamina, not speed." Stated Grace.

“Language, mei mei,” Tess said as she set her mug of tea on the nearest wine cask and leaned on it, “What’er you all fussed up about?”

“What’s going on?” Ken asked as he took in the x-ray equipment next to the wine casks; he raised an eyebrow in wonder.

After Captain and Stephanie showed up, Grace explained "I x-rayed the casket as planned as found this," she pointed at the hour glass image, "I zoomed in to get a closer look and found all the hollowed area around the hourglass, filled with dirt and roots. Figured it was drugs so I called Stephanie and Tess."

Grace zoomed in on this point showing them a closer view of the plants. "I notice these weird packages so I zoomed in again..." Grace zoomed in on the diamonds and let them finish her statement.

(OOC: Assuming gasp of surprises and some choice phrases)

A grimace crossed Grace face as she stated "Our Client is smuggling diamonds. Which means instead of a safe legal job, we have an illegal one. Not to mentioned the Feds are in on it. Their leader was the one who pointed me towards the idea. It's only a matter of time before they get clearance to come on Destiny and prove it. Then there is no stopping them from tossing us in jail. No one would believe us if we said that we had no clue."

Grace sighed and said calmly "At this point in time, I have no clue what to do."

(OOC: I'm guessing something along the lines of someone suggesting we steal the diamonds or remove them. If nothing said ignore bottom comment)

"We can't take them out. Yes there is a secret door, but I don't know how to open it or if there is any nasty surprise waiting for us. We could open it and spill dirt everywhere which lets people know we opened them or maybe there is a trap that could be lethal. We have no clue at this point." commented Grace

"Anyone got any ideas?"

(OOC: Did see the need to post a lot. This is more of a let's see people reaction and we all saw Grace shout of surprise. That and I have no idea what to do next.)

The doctor laughed, "My dear dear Grace, would it matter if I said no? You would just borrow it anyway if I know you and I do, so go ahead but please don't "enhance it" like last time. I almost neutered poor Ken unknowingly."

Grace face went a little red at the comment and she said in a defensive tone. "The thing kept making funny noises. In my area of expertise, things don't make funny noise unless they're broken."

"However, I think that the Doc is the best choice to accompany me into the party. No offense Tess, Grace,” Jason nodded to the pair, “but you two ladies wouldn’t blend in very well,”

Grace nodded in agreement. She had no interest in going to that party. Her Father was always invited to that party. She had very bad memories of that place...

"Thank you very much for the invitation Jason, it has been a long time since I had a reason to dress formally, but I would decline. I no longer have the heart or patience to deal with the aristocracy and I would be more dangerous there with my tongue than Ken would be with all his iron." The doctor said shaking her head.

Stephanie stood up and picked up the key that was found in the guest quarters. "I looked up the serial number of this key in the Ariel Hospital cortex database. I couldn't find much, even with my credentials which didn't surprise me, patient confidentiality and all that. But I did find one thing that is important. The key is not for organs, the serial is actually for maternity. Now when I examined her for TOX, tests showed she took Neurojenvuium, which made sense as she obviously worked the "young" side of her market."

Grace blinked at the word 'maternity.' That was the last thing she expected to be in the same sentence as companion. Tess frowned and asked " “Neuro-juvie? What the devil is that, Stephanie?”

"It a youth drug. Keep the body from maturing. You can't take it long but you can look like a teenager for 20, maybe 25 years. Companions working that market usually charge a lot and get out fast so they take it for a short time. Thing is, you can't take the normal contraception drugs with NJM. You have to take the more modified versions which are hard to get outside core. Higgin's Moon as Grace mentioned, is about as far from the core as you can get."

“Get out fast?” Ken laughed, “sounds like a personal problem.”

“One you’re intimately familiar with, Ken,” Tess flung at him. Grace shifted slightly so she wasn't sitting between the two yellers. Grace was good at ignoring Ken's loud comments but she didn't like it any more than anyone else in the room. In fact, Ken sometimes reminded her of her old comrade Roger. They both could be a little crude.

Stephanie plowed on, "I have a feeling that our passenger was once pregnant, and someone wanted her to abort the child. She instead, had the baby removed and put in cyro-stasis until she was ready to have the child."

Grace felt something twist in her chest. Poor thing, it didn't even draw its first breath and people already are after it.

“Mei Yong Ma Duh Tse Gu Yong!” Tess swore

“Oh yes. It can be done” Stephanie continued, “and is done in the core hospitals, but you have to be very rich or very influential. But most important for us, with this key and a sample of Priscilla's DNA, someone could get that child and do whatever they wish. So I don't think we can send it to her by post. We could be figuratively speaking, carrying someone's baby here. If whomever was willing to kill a companion for this..."

“Well that is a pickle for the whore,” Ken said immediately, “but do we give a Goushí? I mean what is in it for us?”

Grace eyes went wide and she looked at Ken in pure disbelief and shock. "It's a baby, Ken. Why wouldn't we care? It's barely even began its life and its now in the care of people who just look at it like it's a source of money!"

Jon dropped his spoon with a clatter “ First of all Priscilla is not a whore,…. she’s following a trained profession and not the usual doxy you sniff after. Would you think it fair if she told folks you’re just my hired murderer? You’re member of this boat and I hope you don’t act like some gorram berk when we ain’t here to keep an eye on you”……….then raising an eyebrow…. “ or are you just try’n to prove why you ain’t goin to the party?...........Laughing Jon cracks a smile and says, “either you’re a Guay Toh Guay Nown, or a Yi Dwei Da Buen Chuo Roh.”

“So anyway, like it or not you’re sort of an Uncle now, so let’s just try to find a good side on this.” the Captain finished

“Don’t count on it,” Ken mumbled as Grace shot him another glare.

“Well we got plenty of time afor we need to worry about the party. But this baby thing adds a whole new angle to this trip. Maybe Priscilla’s sickness had been planned to scuttle whatever plan she had for that baby….someone doesn’t want an heir and you can bet there’s some fancy fed or bureaucrat involved. That Marshall could be on anyone’s payroll….. and if he is this won’t be an easy run. I agree that he’s smart and if he wants what’s on this boat then I wouldn’t be surprised to see Marauders to do his dirty work. “ stated Jon

“Agreed,” Tess replied. Grace nodded in agreement

“Tess, I don’t want to seem too twitchy, but don’t trust any boat that comes near….. and if we get buzzed we go on alert. We can out run most so I’d rather not giv’m time to lock on or be boxed in. Also let me know if it seems like we’re be’in followed.” said Jon

“Jon, you ain’t being too twitchy. Something stinks in Chinatown, and it’s starting to leak into Destiny. If it’s alright with you, Capt’n, I’m gonna get a few hours of shut eye so I can be bright eyed when we get into the main drift of the shipping lane.” commented Tess

“Sounds like an idea.” Ken said

"If there is anyone who is being too twitchy on this boat; it is probably me." Stated Grace who didn't have any chores so she was going to head to her room.

By the time she had reached her room. Grace was feeling too hyper to sleep. She had already napped and the whirlwind of feeling in her head; Sleep wasn't in the plans tonight.

" Grace, your hair is a disgrace!" proclaimed Nanny. Grace looked up at nanny with a frown and glanced at her hair. It was no longer in the neat braid it was this morning, now it fell down her back. But more important things were on her mind.

"Nanny! I found a nest!" Grace exclaimed. Nanny gave her a baffled look and repeated "A nest?"

"Yeah a nest! Mommy's birds made a nest and there are baby birds! Come see!" exclaimed Grace as she grabbed Nanny's hand. Grace pulled Nanny into the bird room.

"See! A nest!" pointed Grace who was feeling proud of herself. In the large case was the tree and the two blue jays. Nestled close enough for both Grace and Nanny to see was a small nest where three little baby birds were cheeping. Nanny made a hump sound and then using her phone, sent a message to someone.

"What are you doing?" asked Grace.

"I'm letting your Father know. Baby birds are worth a lot of credits. I'll probably get a bonus." explained Nanny

"You're going to sell them?!" Yelped Grace "But what about the Mommy and Daddy birds? They will be sad if you take away their babies."

"Grace, they're birds. They don't care about their babies." Said Nanny Calmly "Now we have to get you to your lessons."

"Can't I stay and watch the birds? Sensei won't care that I miss one lesson!" Begged Grace who was starting to cry. She felt awful about showing Nanny the nest. She didn't mean to take the baby birds away!

"He's paid to care for you. Now come on." stated Nanny as if she didn't notice Grace's tears. Grace looked at her Nanny looking for some hint that she didn't mean it.

"Nanny, do you care for me?" Asked Grace hoping to explain why she should stay with the birds.

Nanny looked down at Grace and said calmly "Of course I care about you Grace. I am paid to care. Now come on, it's time for lessons."

Grace sighed and flopped on her bed. Her plan was simple: read one or her many mechanical books, possible sleep, then get up and check out those barrels. Only she end up reading all of her books and then drink one of her secret stash of caffeinated soda to stay awake. It was some time after four that she fell asleep and then woke up at eight thirty. Grace got up and went to go get the X-ray. If she bumped into anyone she made her usual greeting when she had a rough night. A mixture of a grunt, Chinese and English greetings. She pulled out the machine and one of the lead blankets. She had no desire to get radiation poison or start glowing in the dark.

She took several pictures at different angles and resisted the temptation to fix the rumbling machine. Didn't stop her from giving it some suspicious looks. Finally she had her image. Grace looked at the 3D image in confusion. It looked like an hour-glass with the narrow spot filled with dirt, wine and roots.

"Must be Drugs." Commented Grace and she reached over to the channel and called into it "Quing Ting and Stephanie? Can you come into the Cargo bay? I need you guys to come see this." Tess knew plants well and Stephanie knew drugs. Maybe either one of them would recognised the roots. She pulled up a closer image of the roots. That when she notice that in the roosts were packets of crystal like object. She zoomed in closer and....

"WUO DUH TIAN AH!" She yelped in surprise. They were diamonds! She hit the channel again and said "Um, Captain? you might want to come to the cargo bay. We are in Ma Fuhn!"

(OOC: Quing ting means Dragonfly. That Grace's nick name for Tess. I should have metioned that)
