Subject: Walkies?

Thanks Brom!

I thought we all had hime-made walkies that Fixer made us when we went to that shop just before meeting Charlie for the first time?

Or did I miss something in reading back?

Sorry for my lengthy absence, real life got kinda dark for a bit and I forgot that this game is one of the bright spots.

I don't think Echo has anything quiet to open the window, but she'll shoot thru the glass if you need her to lol

Subject: Climbing? Sure. Secuity systems? Nope!

***As Casino watched the rest of the group below him gather themselves to climb up to join him he smiled as Echo was the first to reach him. The athletic nomad quickly, after a brief smile, continuing past him to gain the lead on Blossom, taking the advanced position. Fixer was next up the line making it, to Casino’s surprise, look easier than any of the others.***

Echo, like Vegas, was also annoyed at the prospect of a clean-up crew on it's way, and she knew they now had to move doubly quick to find the boy, methods be damned. She watched Blossom climb up to the waiting solo, and when she was safely on the the platform, Echo began her own ascent. When she took Casino's offered hand of assistance, she met the eyes of the tall man and gave him a warm smile, then continued up to the designated level, easily passing the pretty netrunner to take the lead to the 8th level. Once there, the nomad peered into the window seeing a typical office building hallway lined with doors and a T intersection at the other end. Not one to know much about methods of disabling security measures that she was sure were in place, Echo took up a guard position to cover those to whom the expertise lies, keeping watch both high and low for any to spoil their entry or call attention to them.

Subject: Keeping watch ...

“Well,” Blossom stifles a yawn with the back of her hand. “That’ll keep me up.”

“I can think of other things much more pleasant to keep you up,” Vegas sweeps in with a roguish smile.

Once again, Echo’s eyes rotate within her head as she listened to the crooner trying to worm his way into Blossom’s rest time.

“So can I,” Blossom quips, tossing her soaked platinum hair over her shoulder with a deft turn of her head as she glides past the solo. “But I think I’ll try my luck with the nightmares for the time being, choomba.”

Echo attempted to stifle a laugh but wasn’t exactly successful, so she turned around and pretended to inspect the pods.

“She don’t know what she’s missing,” the fedora-wearing gunman grins at his partner. “You gonna try to get some shut-eye?”

Turning his head to his friend and partner, a glint of humor filled his eyes. “Yeah well maybe you don’t know WHAT your missing choomba”.

Moving away Casino moved to stand watch. He no longer had the NCD to even rent a coffin so he’d stand semi-watch as the rest of them slept. Once all were rested they’d head back on the trail of young Jace...

Watching as the others besides Charlie and Casino filter into the sleep pods, Echo moved over to stand by Casino.

“Aren’t you going to get some shuteye, Choomba?” she asks quietly, indicating the pods. “I can keep watch over you all, unless you’re not tired,” she said, “Or I can just keep you company so we have two sets of peepers keeping track of the team?”

(OOC - assuming a positive answer)

Echo keeps the conversation light, hoping to give each of them a small respite from the stress of the job, and a chance to discover more about each other as they chat.

The Reflection Fighters are on the radio and the bar is filled with the incessant humming of conversation. Patrons from the blue-collar populace have hedged in on the available tables but Echo’s sharp eyes are able to pick the netrunner out from the crowd and the team joins her in the booth with only minor acrobatics.

As the two women's eyes meet, Echo's face breaks into a rare full grin, happy to see the girl after spending the last hours with so much testosterone.

"Hola, Chika!" She says to Blossom, still grinning. "Thanks for saving space."

“Ha!” the chipper little Asian woman laughs at the sodden sight of the rest of her team. She appears to have either dried off already or somehow avoided the rain altogether. “You’re all wet.”

“We are,” Vegas slides in next to her, appropriating the position before the others can. “I’d weather worse to be by your side mon cherie.”

At that, Echo's eyes practically complete a 360 in her head at the crooner, wondering if she should mention his rudeness to the poor doctor to Blossom, but deciding that the pretty Asian might look fragile but could most likely hold her own against him. Besides, she was no telltale - that would be childish and the team didn't need anything to drive a wedge between them. Plus, she had her own issues to deal with.

Scooting into the booth opposite Bloosom, she removes her balacava and grabs a few napkins, trying to dry at least her face and hands, and focuses on putting what little info they gathered from the doc in the forefront of her mind and dismissing Vegas' shortcomings.

“Maybe the surveillance video will be helpful in determining who this kid hung with,” Blossom grins as though she knows something juicy. Pulling out her agent, the wardriver sets it on the table in front of the group, and as she’s activating the software, Bloodbank activates the wireless ordering system.

“I’ll take a Budweiser,” the medtech orders.

“Make that two,” Vegas adds looking down at the open bottle of Heineken in front of the Asian beauty.

"A Coke for me, please," Echo says, not wanting to dull her senses with alcohol. Plus, she disliked the taste of beer, wine was more to her liking.

Minutes pass as he makes his way down to the street and he finds himself approaching the entrance to the mallplex without any trouble. Finding Ghlahn, Cred Stick Charlie, and the others who had gone into the building already there, Casino joins them.

Echo crumpled the now sodden napkins into a ball and set them on the table, when a few more figures arrived at their table. She looked up to see their new team member 'Cred-Stick' Charlie, Ghlahn, and Casino join the ranks, making their group complete once nore. The petite nomad offered a polite nod to Charlie; a brief smile and nod to Ghlahn; and a broader smile and nod to the solo that made her eyes sparkle just as his met hers. Suddenly realizing her gaze lingered too long on him, she grabbed the damp napkins back off the table and dabbed at her arms, blushing. Saved from anyone asking awkward questions by the arrival of their drinks, Elizabeth 'Echo' Cooper focused on her drink, listening to the ideas from the team and agreeing they were all good next steps, and then offered one of her own.

"Blossom", she asked, turning to the woman, "I'm guessing that vid has a timestamp on it? Could you get into their employee schedules and see which female workers were out there that day, and working in that building? That might save a bit of time by hopefully gaining some names without having to chat with the bosses. I feel the less we talk to regular folk", her eyes dart to Vegas and back before she can stop herself, "The less folk might be alerted to us coming about and asking questions."

Echo was glad they didn't find anything at the Carey's place, he seemed like a genuinely nice guy who just had a hard life dealing with his wife's crazy, and seemed truly concerned for the boy's welfare. She was also glad they could pull Vegas' bad attitude towards the doc away, and began to wonder if the crooner was only kind to those he had an itch for - like Blossom.

"Thank the powers that be it ain't me he's sweet on", she thought to herself, rolling her eyes at him behind his back. "Maybe she's like one of them drugs on the street I've heard of for him - he gets all kinds of cranky when he ain't seen her in a while. I hope meetin' up with her will put him in a better mood."

As they filed out of the tiny apartment, Echo made herself the last out, making sure to let the door close a little before turning to the exhausted man. She offered the teacher her tiny hand to shake, and gave a small but heartfelt apology to the man, using the High City proper language that hadn't crossed her lips in years.

"I am most sorry for interrupting your vacation, Doctor Carey," she begins. "Please forgive the missing manners of some of my companions, they really do have Jace's best interests at heart. They are just unused to dealing with those more, um, cultured than themselves. I hope you won't hold that against them - they are good folk."

(OOC - Provided no large response) She gives the man another warm smile, then turns and leaves, closing the door gently behind her.

OOC - Apologies!! I had thought I posted on this update already - apparently not! My week has been nuts since I got laid off a week ago, and they're being asshats about things. But I've got the Dept. of Labor on my side, so they'll get their just deserts.

”Parental rights?”, thought Echo to herself, “The poor kid! What were his parents doing to him to make him want to be away from them?”

Moving to sit near the seemingly shaken man, trying to keep his attention on her so the others can search, Echo softly asks him, “Sir, have you met Jace’s parents at all? Perhaps at teacher conferences or some such?”

(if an affirmative, she will ask the following) “How did they seem - were they interested in how he was doing at school, or concerned in any way?”

“Also, did you happen to notice any friends his age, anyone at all that he spoke to or seemed to hang around with more often?”

Echo waits patiently for his answers with a small smile, trying to keep eye contact with him.

“How long has Jase been missing?” Phil moves around the couch with a glazed expression, the handgun forgotten in his grip.

“Since yesterday,” Vegas answers while following the thin man’s movements closely with narrowed eyes.

“That’s not good at all,” the professor breathes. “Statistically speaking, the chances of recovering the child alive are reduced dramatically every hour they’re missing.”

“Done your research, Doctor Carey?” Vegas casually accuses.

Phil’s expression turns sharp for the first time since the group entered his apartment. “I teach corporate law, sir. A knowledge of kidnapping insurance and negotiation agency options is required.”

“Of course you would know that, sir”, Echo says gently to the now annoyed man, hoping to calm him back down. “That’s been a well known fact for hundreds of years that anyone with a minimum of intelligence would know”, she says with a glare at the crooner. “Please forgive our gruff ways, we are all genuinely concerned for Jace’s wellfare, and have found very few leads. If there is anything you remember, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, please tell us so we have that better chance of finding him alive.”

Echo finished with what she hoped was a warm smile, and not the anxious terror she felt in her gut from speaking in front of a group, shoving her hands in her pockets to hide how badly they were shaking. She never was one for public speaking, as it usually made her feel nauseous and dizzy, but she couldn’t let Vegas’ accusation stand, it just wasn’t right. She was able to keep eye contact with Dr Carey, trying to give him even more reason to at least trust her, and waited for his answer, if he had one.

Phil Carey hesitates and then nods. "My wife, Toni, she's very sick. If you'll excuse me a moment."

Vegas barely dips his head in acknowledgement and as Dr. Carey leads Dr. Carey back into the only other room in the flat, the altered solo moves quietly across the floor keeping the thin blonde man in view.

As soon as the Dr turns to take his sick wife to the other room, Echo quickly and quietly moves to the computer terminal and carefully lifts the cloth just enough to view it and taps a key, hoping to scan what may be up on the screen. Knowing that it's most likely protected by passcode or some sort of scan, she doesn't expect to really find anything, but doesn't want to give up the little chance laid before them.

(OOC - If she finds anything "interesting", she will alert Fixer that he needs to try get on it, remove her mask, and move towards artwork away from the terminal and attempt to get the Dr's attention and ask about the art to cover. Otherwise, she will put the cloth back, and be nonchalantly looking at the artwork on the nearest wall.)

"Do you see any signs of a child?" Bloodbank whispers.

Vegas shakes his head but keeps his eyes on the activities in the other room. A moment later, he shifts and politely turns his gaze partially away. Phil Carey emerges from the bedroom with the weapon still in hand but hanging limply at his side as he uses his free hand to close the door behind him.

(Assuming she found nothing on the computer, Echo will listen with some compassion to the Dr as he tells his tale, feeling sorry for them both)

"My wife is also a Phd. Computer science," he states in a disparate tone. "Unfortunately, she is unable to work due to her, condition. Ms. White is aware of the situation, but no one else at the school knows and I'd appreciate it staying that way."

"What happened?" Colin can't help but satiate his curiosity.

"She usually isn't as bad as this," Phil glances forlornly towards the door he just shut. "I've had to pretend to be sick for several days to look after her. I can't leave her alone when she's like this or she'll go wandering off and who knows what could happen to her then.

"She used to be brilliant, you know? A hotshot programmer—we met at University. But, she isn't very strong-willed and loves virtual reality fantasy experiences. She'd play them all day, every day, and eventually lost touch with reality. And now, well, now,

"She's usually capable of managing for the most part. She's got a little job in a burger joint down on the second floor flipping tofu-burgers, but that's all she can manage. She used to be so brilliant—so wonderful,"

Phil's eyes swell with tears and his long, skinny nose turns a deep shade of red as he rapidly blinks to keep the liquid at bay.

Echo removes her mask and turns to Dr Carey, "Who is the artist, sir? These are all quite beautiful", she asks with what she hopes is a friendly smile, trying to get him to relax. If he didn't take the kid, which her gut seems to tell her he didn't (OOC - ROLL for hunch/Awareness) since he has to watch over the wife so much, maybe he has some information about the kid since he had him in class.

Subject: Then and now and ... a queen??

As the small nomad smiled warmly up at him, hoping her words gave him some amount of comfort, Casino knew she was right, he was just making it worse between him and Vegas. Not knowing why, the big solo reached over and hugged her.

"Thank you." Releasing her from the hug he still held her on to her shoulders not sure what he was feeling for this young girl. However what ever it was would have to wait. Letting her go he looks down.

Taken by surprise at the tall man's sudden embrace, Elizabeth "Echo" Cooper stiffened but quickly relaxed, returning the unexpected hug, allowing herself one brief moment of comfort after all they've been through since they started this job. When he released her, his big hands were still upon her shoulders, and their eyes met briefly conveying a sense of, what? Something. Something she had no words for at this moment, but a small glimmer of friendship, perhaps more, she didn't know nor did they have time to explore whatever there was between them, if anything. Casino broke his gaze and his contact with the nomad.

"We better get back to meet the rest, this new guy should be with us soon."

Nodding, Echo hears her agent bleep a message and retrieves the device, reading the message then reporting to Casino.

"Looks like we're headed to that joint across the street called Green Gene's for some chow and a bit of plannin'. That new guy Charlie is with the others already. C'mon choomba, let's get some nibbles!" she says with a grin, and heads back into the rain, a slight bounce to her step that wasn't there before.

***** OOC - yes, she will lend her agent to Casino with a small grin*****

*****OOC - Echo will give a bit of a raised eyebrow (in jest) to the "sexist comment" followed with a bit of a grin.*****

Riding public transport always makes Echo's skin crawl, and she's never liked crowds much. Lucky for her, the rather large .44 slung on her back keeps the general public from coming too close. When the guard of the building says not to discharge her weapon in the building, she nods to him in seeming agreement, but mentally promises not to unless fired upon first.

When they arrive on the floor of the supposed ill teacher, Echo takes up a position to the right of the door, just far enough away to not be seen when the door is opened. Nodding her readiness to the crooner, she stands ready and alert to any ambushes, real or imagined. The door opens after a few sharp knocks, and the Frank Sinatra clone announces himself as Victor Hartman. Huh. She wonders if it's his real name, though she assesses that Vegas suits him better. Much better.

This Dr. Carey lets them in and Echo stays near the door, letting the medic pass her, all the better for her to cover the presumably only exit. She looks about the room, noticing the cloths covering everything, the chips, the paintings, the small but effective handgun trained on them, etc. Her eyes stop on what is obviously a computer under one of the cloths - she wishes Blossom was here to hack that piece of hardware. Damn.

All of a sudden, a blonde whirlwind with a plastic crown on her head pops out from the bedroom like a deranged faerie, proclaiming all she sees as her "subjects", and telling them to "kneel before her" - and Fixer complies! You'd think he would fit right in at Camelot with all those knights she read about as a kid.

Yeah, right. Lady, this building's elevators may go to top floor, but yours sure don't.

Subject: A couple new faces ...

After a few stops Casino was unhappy with the selections he had viewed so far. Not being one to really wear masks thanks to all of his mostly old tech he happened to catch a glimpse of a white and black painted skinmask out of the corner of his eye as he was turning away. Moving to it he picked it up and looked it over and trying it on he saw it hide his true features well enough. The big solo could tell the mask design was old and was clearly not in style as he had never seen its look on anyone. Turning to Echo he showed it to her,

"Opinions?"

Echo turned to see what the solo had found, and gave an involuntary gasp - she knew this design! Her father had an antique picture on the wall of his office in their old home, with some choomba dressed all in black with the same design painted on his face, a raven perched on his shoulder. Recovering quickly lest the big man take her reaction negatively, she gave a rare smile and said,

"I think it's perfect! A brilliant design that I've seen before - some sort of entertainment from a long time ago had that face on it."

Deciding to get it, he paid the clerk, and was going to put it on as he walked out the store, but turned to Echo instead.

"He's right you know" At her questioning stare, "Vegas I mean, we have been partners for 14 years but what he did was so stupid." A pause to look down the street and catch a short breath. "That fight in the hospital was bad, really bad" Casino confirmed to Echo for the first time that he was indeed the shooter on the news. "However it's not like I have not screwed up myself a time or too. Am I letting my anger get the best of me?"

Echo empathized with the solo, for she knew what it was like to lose friends over mistakes all too well, no matter who was at fault.

"From what I saw on the news and what you said, it didn't look like you had much of a choice when things went south there. We all make mistakes," she says pointedly, putting a hand tentatively on his forearm trying to convey a bit of comfort to him, "but the idea is to learn from them and try to make things right. My father taught me that. That's why I'm on this job. There was a mistake made, and I need the funds to make it right."

She met the tall blond's eyes and continued, "There was a saying that went with that picture my dad had. It perhaps suits your situation with Vegas, and please forgive me if I'm being too intrusive. It says, ‘It can't rain all the time'. I've held to that every time a way was blocked, or situations blew up. Sometimes somethin' like that can help ya though the bad."

The little nomad smiled warmly up at the solo, hoping her words gave him some amount of comfort or clarity. He seemed a good man who perhaps got caught up in a few bad deals. She knew about that, too.

The pair headed towards where the others had gone for some chow, and met up with this new member of the team, ‘Cred Stick Charlie'. Here was a type of person she hadn't seen in several years, someone who dressed like those that her father used to do business with, all rich fabrics and suave looks, except she was pretty sure this Charlie was NOT in the same type of business. Reverting back to her shyness of newcomers, she gave Charlie a small smile and a nod, then turned to the waitress and ordered a cheeseburger with everything, fries, and a Coke, listening to the plan the others concocted.

Echo listened as the two (former now?) partners spoke about Starlight's condition, the barely disguised undertones of anger apparent. She worried about the boss lady's welfare concerned her greatly, as it was her who contacted Echo for this job in the first place. She hoped all would be well with her, and also the two friends who were at odds with each other over the cause of her injuries. Echo didn't know exactly what happened, but she hoped it wouldn't effect the job. The whole team had already succumbed to too many distractions and needed to be on the job if they were going to save the kid. And this "Cred Stick Charlie" character - who was he? Are they being babysat now since they screwed up? Echo wasn't sure about the new arrangement, but if he was there to help, it couldn't be all bad, right?

Echo was brought back from her thoughts by Casino's statement.

{{{{{"Half an hour is good, I need to find a mask to cover my face seeing as its all over the goddamn news. That's unless any of you have a spare one?"}}}}}

She turned to the solo, "I don't have a spare, but I'm willing to help you search for one, if you want company?" she asked with a small smile.

(OOC - Assuming the answer is yes)

"We'll meet you all there in a few." With that, Casino and Echo headed off to find a mask selling store. Making sure, or at least trying to, not show his face too much, the solo made his way quickly yet relaxed, Echo following his lead.

{{{{{{{{{ Casino is next through the door and his attention is also drawn by the noise. Crowds are not uncommon, especially in the business sectors of the City, but this one is not moving. This crowd is gathered and seem to centralize their attention on whatever or whomever is in the center. Fists shoot into the air and foul language is draped across the mob like Holiday ornaments on a tree, but for the life of him, the rugged solo cannot see what has their attention.

"If we take the Five, we'll go straight past a iQuality Outlet," Fixer almost runs into the solo's back as he follows the pair of gunmen through the door with his eyes glued to his agent. Stepping to Casino's left, he narrowly avoids the collision and looks up a bit irritatedly to find out what all the ruckus is about. Peering through the slivers between his lashes and the dark lenses of his mirrorshades, the techie surveys the crowd and shakes his head in disgust. "Seen this sh*t before," he mutters. "Nothing good comes of it."

"What's going on?" Bloodbank asks innocently while staring at the frothing gathering. }}}}}

Echo follows Bloodbank out of the door, stops and looks at the angry crowd, and gives an involuntary shudder she hopes no one has seen. She doesn't like crowds much, much less angry ones. She adjusts her coat to protect against the stinging rain and hopes they're headed opposite of the crowd. She exhales a sigh of relief when Casino turns to them.

"Whatever it is, its none of our concern, so lets just keep walking....."

Nodding agreement, Echo follows Casino quickly putting as much distance between her and the crowd as possible. She silently hoped this stakeout would give some information as to the whereabouts of the kid. The city may have been her life once, but it is no longer. All she wants is to find the kid, preferably alive, get paid, and clear her name. Everything else was gravy. The less time she spent in the city, the better.

"Chicka, can you pull up activity from the good doc's cash cards? As in, can you see what he's been buyin'? I'm thinkin' about seein' if he's been buying up kid-friendly stuff - food and the like, or even clothes maybe. She looks at them all, knowing she's probably talking more at once than she has the whole time she's been with these folk.

"What Blossom said about the kidnapped is right, the longer we wait, the less chance we have of finding him. He's been gone too long to just have wandered off. If the doc is legit, peachy. If not, we need to find out and nab him quick. That's just my telltale."

Echo leans up against the wall, catching her own breath after her long speech, hoping she didn't sound like a nutcase.

{{{{{"Ok as you can see the place has a s*** load of in's and outs and no way we can cover them all from ground level. I suggest while Fixer, Blossom and Bloodbank are doing their recon we four spilt up and do our own. I'm thinking we need to find two high level spots in buildings, one each, in the north east and south east corners of the plex to watch as many entrances as we can. That way we can provide cover since we have the best long range weapons. Blossom, Echo, Fixer, Hammer and Bloodbank will do the actual snatch and grab if the doc's there and we cover their exfil from a number of exits once they have him, if they get him, depending on what exit is best to use at that time. Ghlahn you and Vegas take the south east corner, Echo and I will take the north east"

Catching a his breath......

"Ok anyone have anything to add or a better idea? And I can see your all banged up might be better for you all to get some rest before we do this?"}}}}

Echo looked to the others, her eyes resting last on Casino. The solo was clever in thinking they needed to cover more, and from up high as well. There's more to this man than just brawn. Good, they'll need it for what's to come next.

"I'm on board with this plan, unless someone has a better one?" she says, moving to stand by the solo, but not too close. "And if we're going to do this, we need to get it going as soon as we can, but I know some of you choombas are hurtin' - do we have any way to fix up and rest up quick so we can go in as close to our best as possible?"

Echo sat listening to everyone describe the happenings, adding details when asked or when she remembered, she tried to be patient waiting for her food. She tried to unobtrusively watch Casino (wasn't that his name?) to commit his face to memory, and smiled at the way he told Blossom not to worry - firm and no-nonsense, yet somewhat kind. She was so wrapped up in her thoughts, she was caught off-guard when the solo caught her eye, pausing in his speech briefly. When she realized she was still smiling, he had already turned and asked a question of everyone.

"So anyone got any idea's where to look next?" he asked the crowd in the tiny back room.

Echo felt her face heat, and quickly looked down into her lap to hide her blush, pretending to fix somthing on her sleeve. She had no idea why that happened - she hardly knew him. He did seem interesting and all, and she was genuinely glad a team member had not been seriously injured, but now was not the time for such things. Plus, she knew the cost of not paying attention, and she would not let that happen again - not by a longshot.

Finally, the food was served and they all fell upon their plates as if they hadn't eaten in months. With all the excitement of the firefights and infiltration of the school, it seemed they had been on this job forever. She listened as Blossom read all the intel she had found, trying to think of a way to use it to their advantage. But the bbq was really, really good, and she was really, really hungry ...

"Doctor Phil Carey," Blossom announces. "He teaches Corporate Law, and, he's been out sick since just after that video."

Hey now, Echo thought - that's just what we needed, another lead. Excellent.

"So I guess he is our next trail we follow?" Casino asked.

"Sounds like it to me", Echo says. "Its way too much of a coincidence that he's conveniently out sick. Blossom, can you pull up an address for him? And maybe any other properties he may own or rent?"

Subject: Apologies!!

I have been totally hit by real life the past two weeks:

I moved into a new apartment (and I didn't break myself this time!!), and it was announced a week ago that the owner of our small franchise sold the business - awesome 😕
Also, I've been having trouble posting over the past 4 days or so - but I think it's ok now. I guess I'll find out if this message stays lol

Luckily, I'm not anywhere near the hurricanes, but we're getting all the smoke from the wildfires west of here.

I will be posting (again) shortly.
