In retaliation, let me tell everyone right now that Darth Falafel (Eol, for the uninitiated of you) looks just like an Aragorn of modern times.

My eyes are blue. A friend of mine has described them as "insanely blue," though I'm not so sure. Either way, I like it.

I was guessing the situation would be pretty much the same. Like I said, it's no big deal. If I ever get the urge to join in on the space western fun, I'll simply start my own Firefly campaign to be the envy of all others!

Topic: Voyages of the Rocinante - Firefly RPG QnA
Subject: Hey!

Hey there, Browncoats! How's everything going?

Me, I just recently watched the final episode of Firefly and read through Those Left Behind, the comic book that takes place between the TV series and the movie. I also just bought Finding Serenity, the collection of essays on the topic of Firefly that was published after the show got cancelled, so I guess you could say I'm pretty pumped up for space westerns and everything that goes with them.

I'll have to be honest and admit that I haven't followed your campaign's storyline. I have noticed, however, that you've put together an awful lot of elaborate backstory and written equally ambitious posts to go along with it. What I'm really wondering about, though, is your current status: How's the game coming along?

From what I can tell, you're dealing with roughly one post per day at the moment (with lots more going on in the Q&A thread, not surprisingly) and the crew currently consists of five people. Would there be room for one more character, and would the pace be looking to speed up in the near future? I reckon you know that I've asked about joining before and passed up the opportunity because I seem unable to stay focused on a game unless it has a payoff associated with pressing the Refresh button every other minute—but there's no harm in asking, after all, and I don't think I'm likely to find a more promising Firefly campaign this side of the Internet anytime soon. If I can't join, then that's that—no big deal. Either way, I'm wishing you all the best of luck out there in the frontier, Browncoats!

Hmm... Like I said, I don't really like slow-moving, long-lasting campaigns that much. No offense to you, of course—I bet yours will be great when and if you've gathered some players—but I think I'll remain a lurker unless you manage to put together a group of "click-the-Reload-button-twice-a-second" type of guys... much like myself.

I wish you the best of luck with your campaign, and one more thing, Al: Aim to misbehave!

One more thing: What will be the estimated posting rate?

I love to play in high-speed games (with one post per day or more) but slower games tend to bore me, really. Anything decided on this point yet, Al?

Topic: Firefly/Serenity RPG - Looking for Browncoats
Subject: Sci-fi at its best!

I "discovered" Firefly merely a couple of months ago, but I already consider it one of the best works of sci-fi ever created! I bought the series on DVD three weeks ago and have decided to watch only one episode every weekend (so as to not "ruin" anything by watching all of it too quickly), but when you decide to start this game up, I'll definitely be into the Firefly universe, so to speak.

I'm very interested in joining this game, Al. Before I sign on to anything, though, I'd like to know: Roughly how long do you think the campaign will take?

I know it's tricky to specify in detail, but are we talking weeks, months or years here?

As for specifics, I'd be interested in playing the group's captain, although I'm certainly not averse to playing any other kind of character on the ship.

Being able to choose time zone for your profile would be awesome, seeing as how I live in Sweden and get confused whenever I look at the dates and times shown on the forum.

Oh, and the smiley buttons don't work in Firefox—you have to type them all in manually.

O great webmaster, please add the font Georgia to the chat interface! It would greatly enhance the entire chat experience... at least for a typography nerd like me!

Topic: Creating Links and Formatting Text: A Tutorial
Subject: Creating Links and Formatting Text: A Tutorial

In my quest to promote good formatting and organized layouts, I have decided to write a short guide to creating links and formatting text when posting on the Red Dragon Inn forums.

First, a small note: Formatting text—for example making it bold or italic—and creating links on these forums is done by using so-called HTML, the type of code that determines what a website looks like. While HTML can be complex, the aspects of it that I will describe in this tutorial are relatively easy to learn and memorize.

Italic Text
Italic text is created by typing like this:
<i>An elegant font, for a more civilized age.</i>
Which will look like this:
An elegant font, for a more civilized age.
Bold Text
Bold text is created by typing like this:
<b>Darth Vader! Only you could be so bold.</b>
Which will look like this:
Darth Vader! Only you could be so bold.
Links
Links are created by typing like this:
Now she is my only <a href="http://www.secretbase.com/howtofindit.html">link</a> to finding their secret base.
Which will look like this:
Now she is my only link to finding their secret base.
Different Text Color
Text with different color than the standard red hue is created by typing like this:
<font color="green">Green Group</font>, stick close to holding sector MV-7.
Which will look like this:
Green Group, stick close to holding sector MV-7.
Available colors include most common ones such as "red," "green," "blue," and "yellow," and more uncommon ones such as "cyan" and "magenta." If you are looking for a very specific color, you will have to write down a so-called "hex code." To find this code, do a web search for "HTML color picker" or something similar, and you should find an application for doing that.

A hex code looks something like this: #ff7f00. (This particular hex code is that of a type of orange.)

Different Font
Fonts that are available on many computers include Times New Roman—the default font—Arial, Georgia, Trebuchet MS and Courier New. Text with a different font than Times New Roman is created by typing like this:
<font face="Courier New">Beep! Whirr! Whistle! My name is R2-D2!</font>
Which will look like this:
Beep! Whirr! Whistle! My name is R2-D2!
Block Quotes
Block quotes are indents on both sides of the text. They are created by typing like this:
<blockquote>Prisoner transfer from
cellblock 1138.</blockquote>
Which will look like this:
Prisoner transfer from cellblock 1138.
Numbered Lists
Numbered lists are created by typing like this:
<ol>
<li>The Phantom Menace</li>
<li>Attack of the Clones</li>
<li>Revenge of the Sith</li>
<li>A New Hope</li>
<li>The Empire Strikes Back</li>
<li>Return of the Jedi</li>
</ol>
Which will look like this:
  1. The Phantom Menace
  2. Attack of the Clones
  3. Revenge of the Sith
  4. A New Hope
  5. The Empire Strikes Back
  6. Return of the Jedi
Bulleted Lists
Bulleted lists are created by typing like this:
<ul>
<li>Luke Skywalker</li>
<li>Obi-Wan Kenobi</li>
<li>Yoda</li>
</ul>
Which will look like this:
  • Luke Skywalker
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Yoda
Those are the most commonly used formatting options for message boards, but there are of course many more. If you want to learn more, check out W3Schools or do a web search for HTML tutorials.

With that, my tutorial is finished. Or, as a famous man in a black suit and with a well-known voice once put it: "The circle is now complete!" I hope you have enjoyed the tutorial and the many Star Wars references in it!

Have fun posting on the Red Dragon Inn forums!
