I'm here, I need to catch up on the story thus far, but I'm here. For whatever reason, RDI stopped sending me emails when the forum updated, so I didn't know we were back on playing.

Subject: Limited Connectivity

Gentlemen,

The hunt for a job continues and as such I have limited connectivity to the internet. I have access at school, but gaming sites, this one included (as well as RSI and my own DJI site) are blocked for me. I'm at the in-laws at the moment, so I have unfettered access.

Trillian has a bow, longsword, and sleep spell at his disposal. He will not use the spell on the undead, but orcs beware! He will always shoot first and melee second as a general rule.

Sorry to inconvenience any of you. Hopefully I will find a job soon and be back to normal.

MD/Ashe

P.S.--My email addy is rebel nerf herder at yahoo dot com or r gibson at baptist seminary dot edu (there are no spaces in the email names, so squeeze them together for the actual address-I just hate spammers!! )

Subject: Rolls for next round. . .

Just in case I miss a post, here is for next round:

To Hit: 14, 11
Damage: 6, 3
Saves: 12
Ability Check (if needed): 11
Percentile (if needed): 56
6-sided die with color on each face: green

Subject: busy

Trillian will fire with his bow until the zombies are dead or they are close enough for melee, at which time he will draw his longsword.

Sleep is of little use here, so I won't be casting anything (except maybe burning logs if I run out of arrows).

Sorry I'm so quiet, been really busy with school, job-hunting, and sick baby.

I'll be back in the regular swing of things on Monday. I have a class module throughout the week, but should have time to catch up on all things "extra-curricular"!!!! (that would be this game, my game on the DJI site, and TW scoring).

Subject: Had an idea. . .

I had an idea for flaming arrows if someone has oil.

Build a barrier in front of us (by build I mean throw wood in a line before us) 1/2 oil it and light it. Then those of us firing missiles could dip the tips of our arrows in oil and fire through the flames at the on-coming undead.

Subject: I hate undead

Unless they are "special" zombies, I don't think we need any type of special weapons to hit them.

If they are zombies and Anvil gives the word, I'll start firing at them with my bow.

If they are Shambling Mounds, I'm running.

Sleep (and any other enchantment/charm spells) are pretty much useless against undead. I'll just be ranged support on this go round.

No fire so we don't attract the wrong kind of attention. The orc bodies are missing, so someone knows this location and it won't be hard for them to come back if they think someone is here.

Subject: Probably

After reading my character history again, there is a chance that I would know a bit about the Zhenterium, or at the very least Zhentil Keep, there home city.

Common knowledge about them is that they are evil and serve the god Bane, Lord of Fear and Hatred. I asked SD about the era because they have gone through some major shifts in regards to their deity allegiance. They may be worshiping Iyachtu Xvim, depending on the time period. Knowing the time period changes little concerning how evil and diabolical they are, but gives me a reference point.

Not so common knowledge: Pre-Time of Troubles, they worshiped Bane. During the Time of Troubles, when AO stripped all the gods of their powers and cast them down to Faerun, Bane was killed by Torm, god of loyalty and obedience. Zhentil Keep then shifted their devotion from Bane to his son Iyachtu Xvim. After about 10 years, something happened and Iyachtu Xvim was consumed in a green fire, Bane emerged from the flame reborn.

I hate those guys. If I knew exactly what era of FR were in, I'd know who to hate.

SD, are we pre or post Time of Troubles?

I think the fact that they killed the Tree-singer tells us something. What? I'm not sure about that yet.

We need to go ahead and open that scroll. It may have something important for us to consider too.

1. We get them in the cart and bandaged as best we can. 2. We see them back safely to the town gates, warn the town watch/guard to be prepared.
3. Make our way to the camp site.
4. Kill some orcs.
5. Kill some more orcs.
6. And, protect this town and these people as best we can.

Subject: Huh?

Hammer does your vision give you a specific time limit on when you have to find this item in the woods?

Splitting up is a bad idea in the best of circumstances. As you can see from the present situation, this is NOT the best situation. Also letting innocent woodsmen die or a town be attacked because you are itching to move forward isn't very "cleric-esque". Granted you do worship a war deity, but my guess is that you have a "good" alignment and letting people die when you can prevent it is never "good".

You can do what you want to do, but chances are you are going to end up DEAD, or your absence is going to KILL someone else. I don't see that as accomplishing your patron deity's task either way.

Sorry if I sound too blunt or straight-forward, but there is a reason that DMs send "parties" out to adventure and very rarely do people run solo. It is as Nomad said, there is safety in numbers.

I'll go as the majority of the party votes, or as Anvil leads if it comes down to him making the decision.

with binding the wounds once I find my shortbow. Or, I'll stand guard if that is what Anvil wants me to do. I may also see if I can climb a tree and get a better look at the surroundings. I doubt that I will see much with the smoke, but it may not hurt to try.

Also, I'm not a big fan of going back to town, but if the town is the target of the attack, then it will not hurt us to make sure the woodsmen get back safely and kind check the status. I'm with the party on whatever they want to do though, so only take my statements as a point to consider.

I think if we can get the wounded in and stabilized, then turning the carts around and break-necking it back should not be much of a problem because it is not that long of a trip. The wandering orc war bands are obviously going to be a problem, but we'll deal with that when we get to it.

And just as a point of reference, I'm all out of sleep spells until I get time to sit and study it again.

SD--What is my study time to relearn it? What is my limit on how many times I can cast and relearn in any 24 hour period?

Subject: To the injured

I would let me and Hammer bind their wounds as best we can first. If there is someone that is about to die, then we can use a spell or potion if that is our only option.

I have herbalism, but not healing, so all I'm suggesting at the moment is conjecture because I don't know how SD plays it.

I'm guessing big, bad and ugly was talking to me. This means for any future orc encounters I'm likely going to be the first target, especially if he is present.

I got a few more tricks up my sleeve though, but I do need to tread carefully from here on out and watch my back!

With that ruling, I'm casting sleep, centered on the orcs in the wagon with T'Sal.

2d4 = 3 + 3

Subject: Wait

Wait until I get an answer about the Sleep spell. If it functions the way I think it does (against monsters, not friendlies) then I can at the very least knock those out in the cart.

The cast time is only 3 segments too, so it goes off pretty quick.

Subject: Rules clarification

I need a DM rules clarification before I can post my action:

If I cast SLEEP, does it only affect the monsters or will it affect my comrades too?

I ask because the spell description in the PHB says (and I quote):

The spell affects 2d4 Hit Dice of monsters.

I'm not trying to be a rules lawyer, but I don't want to cast it if I'm going to screw the party over. I would assume (yes, dangerous I know) that I would know the effects/limitations of the spell as a wizard, but its a total DM call.

Group initiative and only 1 Init roll at the start of battle would clear up a little confusion. This way everyone know exactly when they are going and could plan accordingly.

Topic: Q & A Oaks Heart
Subject: What to Roll

Initiative: SD has noted that he wants 1d6

To Hit: All attack rolls are made with 1d20, more if you can attack multiple times. Multiple attacks will usually only apply to weapon specialized fighters and bow users. The formula for a hit is THAC0 (to hit armor class zero) - target's AC. So if your THAC0 is 20 and your opponents AC is 7 (20 - 7 = 13), you would need to roll 13 or more on a 1d20 to hit them. THAC0 decreases as you increase in level (different for each style), but at 1st level, everyone starts at 20. You may have other bonuses such as STR, racial adjustments, class bonuses, etc that may decrease this number.

Damage: It is weapon dependent. I posted the most commonly used weapons, but if you need to know something that isn't posted, let me know and I'll look it up for you. If you have exceptionally high STR, there is a damage bonus that applies to weapon damage too, so make sure you know if you have that bonus or not.

Saving Throws: These are made with a 1d20 also. You want to roll higher than your listed Savings Throw.

Thief Abilities: These are rolled on 1d100. If you have 35% in Pick Pockets, you will need to roll a 35 or lower on 1d100 to succeed.

Always remember, the DM can impose bonuses or penalties on rolls depending on the situation. If you get surprised, you may get a negative modifier on your Initiative roll. If the target is asleep, magically held, or otherwise prone, you may get a To Hit bonus.

The above are the "general" rules, but everything is at the DM's discretion in regards to bonuses and negatives based on situation.

If any of you need help, PM or email me, I'm always glad to help out.

Subject: Various Rolls

Here are my rolls for when they are needed (I included all possible scenarios). Rolls are in the order they were rolled.

Personal Init: 1d6 = 4

If attacking with bow: 2d20 = 14, 12

Arrow Damage (if they hit): 2d8 = 6, 6

If I cast sleep (targeting one of the charging orcs, trying my best to get leader in area of effect, but most importantly the 4 charging): 2d4 = 3, 4

Sleep affects 2d4 HD of monsters and there is no savings throw. Monsters with 4+3 HD are unaffected by the spell. The spell affects the lowest HD monsters first and then moves up.
