East of Sodgrove
The Sixteenth Day of Elmonth - afternoon

Almost as if on cue, as Tellanth makes his remarks about the weather, the drizzling rain worsens into a downpour. Its as if the sky were dumping out. The sky is a deep dark grey that is featureless except for the brightening halo on the upper side of the moon Dosojin... but it is little more than a faint fuzzy arc in the sky. The birds all went to sleep, so it is eerily quiet except for the rain and the voices of the unlikely companions.

Ixion creeps up and positions himself directly behind Manuhol. Manuhol does not see the human creep up nor does he realize his own cover has been compromised. He does, however, seem preoccupied.

The rest of the group continues the discussion, Ixion barely aware that he is missed.

Subject: Sorry I haven't replied

sooner than this. For some reason, I wasn't subscribed to this thread. That has been remedied.

I would first like to say that this realm, as all realms I run, but especially a custom realm like this, is shaped by the players within it. That is not to say that you tell the story, but the story, and most importantly, the world around the characters, is formed by the ideas of the players. This means that your opinions and ideas take permanent root in the game world.

The material for this game world that already exists is from the previous games run in this world. There are obviously empty spaces that can easily be filled as necessary with a little attention.

The skin issue.
Doesn't matter. Almost every living soul in the Black Fey region is in some small manner related to the black dragons that infest the area. This does not translate into "the population of the Black Fey region is evil." However, many traits, both psychological and cultural, will show through in their general manner. Each region is similar based on the traditional color / metal of the region.

Black Fey Marshes, Black Fey Lake
As said, these people are related to the black dragons who ultimately descend from an ancient wyrm named Sulphisextantus. He is the sire of over 20 full-blooded dragons, 500 half dragon / dwarves, /elves, and /humans. Each of them, over the last few hundred years, we given whatever they desired, including public office, land, riches, and yes, wives, husbands and consorts. The infamous Thur-Eckt-Null, his third halfbreed son, a half orc, was rumored to have had sixty wives, three harems in three towns, and a dungeon under Six Towers that was allegedly used for violent orgies involving captured enemies. The main point of all this, is in the last two thousand years, almost every village around the lake has black dragon blood. There are black skinned halflings in the foothills of the mountains that separate Devil's Spire from Black Fey Marsh.

I got off track...

Black Fey folk are generally thought to be equivalent to poor baijou folk. They are generally unwashed, speak about a hundred dialects of common, and other people tend to watch their possessions around them. Not to say they are given to theft. They are opportunists. Black Dragons are selfish, cruel and enjoy being alone. Their humanoid descendants are possessive, envious and do not like outsiders... or as Torigad shows us, have difficulty with strangers.

East Rose and Sodgrove
This area is strong with the blood of blue dragons. There are also some green and a few silver or bronze. There are more nondraconic people in this region than Black Fey. However, Antagony is the mother of fifteen full blooded blue dragons, aged in a range between 12 and 750 years old. She has a brood of over sixty-five halfbreeds, and eight of her full blooded children have similar broods. Blue dragons are vain, sexual, childish and sometimes emotional. They are meticulous record-keepers, and enjoy the tedium of financial management. This makes them excellent vassal rulers, which is why Hosteratix initially gave this region to Antagony so many years ago.
Descendants of blue dragons are typically vain, tempermental and led by their emotions. Very much like Virgos in common modern astrology.

Bizzux
This region is filled with metallic dragons. The city of Bizzux itself was once a city of light and reflection, the spires of the Metropolis covered in mirrors and glass architecture: the Holy Temple Academy's roof is made of mirrored shingle tiles.
Metallic dragons in general are compassionate, empathic and generally interested in conversation and good times. Philosophy, the arts, sciences and magic are all held in high regard. There were at least fifty silver dragon family names before the Metallic Purge. This is not to be confused with the "peasant human" purge in East Rose. When the Shade Lord tricked the king of all dragons and turned him onto a shadow dragon, he immediately and very quickly ambushed each of his 75 full blooded children, starting with his oldest, the 2600 year old Ioetaxicux, and turning them into shadow dragons too. Then he went on a purge, attacking the forum and the silver dragon council, killing many of them. The rest fled, some managed to escape with their hoards, but most did not. Hosteratix commanded his children to collect all the abandoned hoards and now sits on the greatest hoard of treasure ever seen. Rumors say it is a mountain of gold fifty feet high.
Anyway, the Silvers escaped into the surrounding countryside, separated and on the run. In the Empire of Hosteratix the Eternal, to be a silver dragon is to be a heretic. Other countries do not necessarily subscribe to this, but who knows what a person will do for a bounty of gold these days?

The Frozen North
The white dragons in this area descend from the ancient frozen nightmare, the white dragon Hibberak. Hibberak is not like other draconic progenitors... this one does not speak. In fact, Hibberak is literally a beast. He is a beast who lives on his desires, his impulses, and is very much a primal creature. When he sees something he likes, he is able to shapechange into that creature's race. The barbarous Snow Elves and the primitive White Dwarves all share the region with the pale humans.
White breeds are more in tune with their more bestial side, embracing their baser desires. They are typically more prone to violence and less prone to concern themselves with issues of learning or refinement. They are by virtue of their environment survivalists and excellent at making do with few resources. Most are uncomfortable when its hot.

Norcross
The mystic forest valley that separates East Rose from the Frozen North was once home to the green dragon Seifu. He was a Buddha of sorts, teaching enlightenment and balance. He was a stern master, but many and various kinds of people were attracted to this way of life. Until the Shade Lord came. Seifu rejected the Shade Lord's overtures and banished him from his kingdom. The Shade Lord reacted by attacking the home dojo with his already substantial might, having already conquered Bizzux, East Rose and Black Fey. Seifu and half of his pureblood children were killed in the attack, and the rest of his brood loyal to him were scattered. Green dragons are naturally self saving, though, and many of his line turned on their master's teachings to save themselves.

Subject: On the trail

End of Prologue

Chapter One: Legacy of the Wyrm

Without hesitation the motley cadre of companions chased after the livelihood of the village of Sodgrove. For if the brave adventurers did not perform this heroic deed, the village would surely perish to the last man woman and child before the summer Stillness.

Despite the various and diverse motives that the adventurers shared (or did not share) they understood one thing. For any of them to ever achieve that which they most sorely desired or right that wrong that so desperately needed righting, this muddy hoof-beaten trail was the only way to it.

T'puuli is right... the trail is easy to follow, and the party is right on their heels. Every now and then, a cow can be heard, mooing its displeasure at being herded in such a rushed manner.

Subject: Closer Inspection [sort of a flashback]

The party pauses for a moment to inspect the corpses of the thieves. ((The information here is a combination of several characters' rolls, which were all very successful, and is assumed to be revealed in a short discussion with a handful of locals right before T'puuli trudges after the trail.))

They are kobolds. Small squat draconic creatures... typically forming "hives" of 100-1000, organized under the largest in a mockery of divine right. Under more peaceful times, these scavengers would only be able to survive due to their tremendous breeding rate. They are curious, malevolent, and while dim witted, are very cunning and given to sudden moments of enlightenment. They are expert miners and compulsive builders.

Interestingly, their scales are a bright blue. They have one large horn on the top of their muzzle and their lower jaws extend in a vicious underbite. The subject comes up during the discussion of the possible effects on their breeding habits if draconic heritage were involved... no one cared to comment, but it was certainly not a pleasant thought.

They are armed with small spears. Two have rusty daggers and one has a tarnished silver letter opener, seems to have been using it to pry things. Their clothes are mostly ragged pieces stolen from this village. One is wearing a girl's bonnet.

The locals all have stories about how these little hybrids have been bleeding the town dry over the months due to inaction from East Rose, the provincial goverment's seat.

It is obvious that the burning barn was a diversion.

Subject: The corral

Ixion chases after the little implike creatures, but he soon loses track of them... they move through the underbrush quickly and soon all he can detect of them is the chittering laughter and jeers from somewhere in the woods. The darkness and rain make for poor tracking.

Tellanth, T'puuli, Torigad and Snowlily (and Manuhol, I will assume he is with the majority of the group until he says otherwise) arrive. The scene is within an empty corral. The gate is wide open, and two men stand in the open gateway, one man consoling the other. Both men have bloody swords, and one of them is injured. Ixion soon returns and rejoins the group, very disappointed that he didn't get to kill anything.

There are perhaps four or five small humaoid bodies lying in the dirt of the corral. Closer inspection may be in order. Meanwhile, the one man collapses into a sitting position, moaning.

"My cows, my cows! The bastards took off with my cows!"

T'puuli carries the girl to safety, shouting at the others to get out while they can. She drops off the girl to her mother, who shouts and hugs and fusses over the little one.

Torigad gets his bearings and manages to open a couple of stall doors, rescuing three horses and two sheep. Snowlily roots around in a few panicked moments and finds something very shiny on the floor, but her eyes are too blurred to see anything. She picks it up and pockets it. A timber falls from the ceiling and they hastily exit...about the same time Tellanth rushes inside.

~

Tellanth, about to race into the burning barn, stops short as T'puuli pulls the girl outside.

~

Ixion rushes to the east side of the village, where he chances upon a pair of humans trading blows with a pair of squat humanoids... they carry spears and are difficult to make out... but he could swear that those little squeaky voices were chittering the language of the Dragons.

Ixion interrupts Tellanth's questions to an old man, and the old man shakes his head. Manuhol arrives in the slowly gathering crowd, and takes note of the other two people out here who are very obviously not from around here.

"Actually, m'lord, it were..." his comment is suddenly cut off as the sound of men shouting and clashing weapons arises from the east of town.

((the other three can't hear it from inside the barn))

Inside the burning barn, Sodgrove
The sixteenth day of Elmonth; noon eclipse

The barn is fully ablaze. As T'puuli enters, she is beset on all sides by flame and smoke. Prepared for the smoke, she hastily searches the contents of the barn and finds a young girl, mayhap 15 summers old, bound to a post behind the hay as Torigad bursts in.

Unprepared for the entire inside of the barn to be filled with fire, Torigad gasps at the heat and inhales a lungful of noxious smoke. The foul breath of Gagazet (smoke from fire) causes Torigad to choke and cough violently.

Snowlily cautiously enters the barn and is as surprised as Torigad at the sudden heat and smoke. She coughs and chokes in a most feminine and delicate manner.

For all you folk who like to give their 2 cents. I am wondering a couple of things.

1) How do you normally keep track of characters in your games?

2) What kind of limit do you normally give on posting, or do you?

3) What tricks do you use to keep track of game info?

4) Do you use karma at all?

Pairing of two gruggs? A grouple.

Three? You guessed, a griple.

I can only assume feeding them makes them multiply... no one will give me a straight answer.
