Subject: Gunther on the move ...

... okay guys!

The following is a cut and paste from the final 4 paragraphs + the additional italicized paragraph letting Trip know what Gunther is doing in my last post at An Evil in Orlane:

"Norwell does not know why anyone would leave this place with all the great quality of farming this land offers," Gunther states with a grim and determined look on his bearded face, "but I for one aim to find out just what is going on here that has the local people terrified of strangers!"

Gunther looks each of the adventurers in the eye and declares, "There is still plenty of daylight left. I aim to pay a call on the good Mayor Ormond at his big house on the south of the lake so that we can become acquainted and he can answer a few more questions. Anyone who wants to come with me is more than welcome."

The young Paladin reaches for his back pack and puts it in place, then grips his Medium Shield in his left arm/hand and starts to withdraw his Broad Sword, but figures it is best to keep his weapons sheathed for the time being in case some of the people in Orlane are scared enough to shoot an arrow at any strangers walking through town with drawn weapons, instead of asking questions first.

"Just let me know right now which one of the inns to meet you at later," says Gunther as he takes a few steps in the direction of the lake, then stops and turns for both an answer to his question and to see who exactly will go with him to pay a call on mayor Ormond, "and it might be a good idea for some of you to go find DeathStalker before he gets himself in trouble!"

Gunther waits long enough for the group to decide which inn for the young Paladin to rendezvous at before nightfall and for which adventurers will accompany him to go pay a courtesy call on Mayor Ormond before Gunther proceeds in the direction of the lake

***** I sent Darque an Email the other day asking him which inn to rendezvous at but it seems he has fallen off the map!

Must be getting close to time for his wife to be giving birth to their first born!

Anyway it is going to be 10pm over here in a little while and I need to get some sleep!

I will get up early on Friday and post something further at An Evil in Orlane after I check to see if anyone has posted any further information!

Daylight is burning and we need to get to the Mayor's house!

Subject: Hey Floyd

Check what Darque posted at the bottom of page 17 in the Q&A thread which is copied and pasted below:

[According to Darque]I think we should stick to the original plan with a few changes.

Group 1 go to the mayor's home and seek out what he knows.

Group 2 do what was originally posted for group 3 by looking over houses and looking for clues (and in the process try and find Deathstalker-which you would do because he is in your group).

Group 3 will head over to the temple. If Gunther told us they worshipped Merikka in this town, Valerus is the more likely candidate to go than Elkin because she is a nature goddess, unrelated but akin to Beory (my druid's patron goddess).

I will wait for reactions/rejections before I post anything.

***** Floyd, you need to re-post at An Evil in Orlane because you are in Group 2 and are no longer going to the Temple!

Subject: For the Record

I for one am enjoying this gaming format, no matter what the leisurely pace.

Already have a character/background in the works for a different style and driven character somewhere down the road when Trip opens a second game!

I enjoy reading these posts and how the adventure develops, keeping in mind that everything I have the privilege of reading is information that my character Gunther may or may not be aware of at the time!

Just hope the other players realize they have to post what their character is doing over at An Evil in Orlane before Trip has enough info to post the results of setting the stage further and resolving any and all interactions between our characters and the ones only the Dungeon Master knows are lurking in the area!

I am quite content [in relation to waiting 14 or 28 days for the results in a Dueling Arena!]that the movement of this particular game is proceeding toward the inevitable battle vs the evil that threatens the town!

By April or May the result of all this preliminary development will be well worth the time it took to get everyone involved in contributing their posts regarding what their character is doing between each of Trip's posts over at the An Evil in Orlane thread where we are supposed to post how our characters are reacting to the developments!

I for one am enjoying the ride!

... At some point Trip will enter another post because it has been a couple days!

You know you are heading to the Mayor's house with Gunther, Sentinel and Fandil [still identified by Darque as Group #1] so you should be able to post some info for Trip to use in case he decides to post tonight after he gets home!

Should Darque post at An Evil in Orlane and there is something Gunther can add to the descriptions before Trip posts then I will write something further for An Evil in Orlane just to add some more flavor if it fits!

... so all of us can get into the action and flow of the events of the game!

Merikka is the goddess of Agriculture so I agree with Darque that groups 2 and 3 switch objectives! Valerus is more attuned to the nature worshippers!

Note this paragraph from the An Evil in Orlane post from Hammer in Gunther's character:

*** Gunther also informs the group that Norwell said "most of the people here worship the goddess Merikka, the goddess of Agriculture" and that "we are good folk who don't go bothering other people." ***

Also please note what was in the last paragraph of the same post and this needs to be addressed as to which inns the 3 groups are to go to at the end of the day:

*** Gunther waits long enough for the group to decide which inn for the young Paladin to rendezvous at before nightfall and for which adventurers will accompany him to go pay a courtesy call on Mayor Ormond before Gunther proceeds in the direction of the lake. ***

Hopefully there will be enough responses in the next few hours so Darque can post his info on An Evil in Orlane so that Trip can facilitate the movements of the groups and Garrus/DS II and everyone can feel involved in the action and not just sitting on the sidelines doing nothing!

Subject: Clarification on Authority and holding back information

Gunther views authority as a God given position, no matter who or what belief the position holder maintains.

He may not always agree with the person in authority, but does respect that position of authority!

Gunther did not mention the castle sequence because that is something personal he used to get the farmer to open up regarding the need for protection and the disappearances!

The other phrase that Norwell Graven used in passing is something that Gunther did not repeat to the group upon returning to share the obtained information.

His purpose in not sharing the phrase at the moment was in line with not sharing every little detail of each conversation as some of the group may be bored with every minute detail and just want an overview of what transpired.

Gunther believes strongly in each individual exercising his or her own free will for the common good of society.

What is happening here is that small phrase in passing that the farmer used is gnawing at Gunther's memory to the point that he realizes that he must go talk to Mayor Ormond before any more time is wasted and before the sun sets and night falls!

Therefore Gunther will proceed to meet with Mayor Ormond either by himself or with anyone else who chooses to go with him!

It is broad daylight and probably still around midday at the latest. This is a good opportunity for some walking solitude for the young Paladin to do some praying and communing with his God on the way to Mayor Ormond's house if no one else chooses to accompany him.

If it were night time then Gunther would only proceed with the company of other adventurers, but since it is broad daylight, his Charisma is 18 and he has a 10' field of protection surrounding him, the young Paladin will proceed by himself if no one else chooses to accompany him!

Subject: Paladin and authority

It is true that the Paladin would likely seem to gravitate towards other holy shrines, but we know that the goddess of Agriculture is the one worshipped by most of the people in Orlane, which logically to me makes it the Druid [a man tied to the earth and nature!] who would be more inclined to visit such a temple, if indeed such a one exists!

On the other hand, Gunther serves the True and Living God and understands with his beliefs that God is the one who sets men in authority.

The mayor is the one who is in authority over the town of Orlane and thus the logical choice for Gunther to go speak to in regards to what is happening to the people that authority is governing!

Especially since something that Norwell Graven the farmer mentioned in passing conversation [that Gunther purposely did not mention to the rest of the group when relating what transpired with the farmer!] makes it only more logical for the Paladin to enquire of the town authority/mayor for clarification before sharing what was mentioned in passing to the entire party of adventurers!

Subject: Group #1 is Meeting the mayor ...

... so logically Oriel, Sentinel and Fandil accompany Gunther to pay a call on the mayor!

It may also be logical for group #1 to head to The Golden Grain Inn which is a bit more expensive and uppity for the farmer's tastes!

Sentinel the Small may be a bit tight with his own purse, but his abilities may be best suited for hob nobbing with the more affluent culture of The Golden Grain Inn!

Just a small thought [grin!]

Subject: Suggestions

I am making the following suggestions for our party to consider before Gunther leaves the gathered adventurers [minus DeathStalker!] to go to the mayor's house on the South side of the Lake which is building #10 on our maps!

Some should consider going to the local village shop for supplies and possibly get some info from the local storekeeper and any customers.

Perhaps some should bunk down at The Golden Grain Inn and the others at the Slumbering Serpent Inn to possibly gather some info from the proprieters and any helpers or patrons at the inns.

Obviously a couple people need to go check on DeathStalker [see Shrill voice posting!]

My plan is for Gunther to go see Mayor Ormond and get some specific information with my map as to which buildings on the map are where people disappeared or left homes or stores abandoned for no apparent reason!

Mayor Ormond is an elected official and he of all people should know who exactly is missing and where they are missing from!

Also want Mayor Ormond to tell Gunther what the building #21 is over in the NorthEast corner of the map!

I think this information is imperative to learn before nightfall and to get back to one of the inns where we agree to have Gunther go to roundezvous with other members of the party!

Seems to me a night at the inn should develop into something more than just a place to get out of the rain to get some sleep!

A good place for a sneaky attack or a mysterious message to be delivered that gets things going including the inevitable fight against some evil thing(s)!

IMHO if we investigate these areas with groups of everyone in the party then every player gets involved and does not feel left out of the action while waiting on some other group to arrive with a report!

For the record I am perfectly content to continue travelling with Oriel, Sentinel and Fandil, but I am giving them the opportunity to choose to either go with Gunther or to go somewhere else with other characters in the party if they would rather!

Plus allowing for anyone else who wants to go with Gunther to meet Mayor Ormond to do so!

According to the way Trip worded the post when she grabbed her son she yells out, "KILLIAN!!" In a shrill voice, likely to be heard for miles which I figure would carry to wherever we are gathered now!

So I would say Yes we hear the woman scream!

We could put a spin on it and think we hear a woman cry "Killing!" at the end of Gunther's discussion and after he says "and it might be a good idea for some of you to go find DeathStalker before he gets himself in trouble!"

Subject: Providing information is posted in An Evil in Orlane

Fortunately I had some down time this afternoon and was able to get this written and posted before leaving for the hockey league games!

Basically there are 2 inns to choose from for lodging, there is a village store in case a group wants to go there and ask questions and Gunther is on his way to pay a call on the mayor [along with anyone else who chooses to go with him!]

Since the entire group is gathered together [except for DeathStalker!] as Gunther begins to leave he suggests some of the party need to go find DeathStalker before he gets himself in trouble!

I will check back later tonight for any posts, but now I must go!

Subject: Providing information

Gunther approaches Valerus and bows to the Druid as a token of respect for his apparent leadership while the rest of the company gathers around to learn what their four companions have gleaned from the local farmer. He sets his back pack on the donkey cart and places his Medium Shield on top of his back pack before turning to address the group.

The young Paladin also takes note that DeathStalker is obviously absent from the party.

After a quick description of the courtesy they were shown as they were escorted to the farmer’s table and how the children were hidden from view in another room; Gunther explains how he broke the ice by telling the farmer, Norwell Graven, that some of the members of the party were looking for land to purchase to build homes and raise families. The farmer’s immediate response was that plenty of prime land was available and all we have to do is speak with the mayor who would be glad to get everyone started and possibly without having to purchase any land.

Gunther did not bother to mention about his suggestion of building a castle to help provide protection from any unexpected danger in the community. Some things are best left unsaid and in the confidence of Oriel, Sentinal and Fandil.

Then the young Paladin explains how he and his companions had heard about some wild rumors about people disappearing and land being abandoned and how we thought it may just be greedy investors trying to scare other people away from Orlane so they could take the land for themselves. So we came to Orlane anyway to see for ourselves.

"These people are definitely afraid of something," responds Gunther, "and they freely admitted that there has been trouble lately. They don’t know what is going on, but they do know that some awful strange things have been happening that has them and all their neighbors keeping to themselves and their immediate families."

Gunther instinctively felt his fingers from his left hand tracing the design of his holy symbol that hung around his neck as he furrowed his brow before continuing.

"People have left their homes right in the middle of supper and not returned. They left their animals and some people even left their stores. Norwell and his wife Sarah have not even heard of any of those people ever returning to their homes or stores since these problems began a few months ago."

The young Paladin gripped the handle of his Broad Sword upon relating that, "Norwell said he would be 'right happy' if we could figure out what was going on, but he has no clue that could help us solve this mystery."

Gunther then informs the group that there are two inns in town: The Golden Grain Inn which in the farmer's own words is "a bit more expensive and uppity" and the Inn of the Slumbering Serpent which the farmer described as "a fine inn with very nice folks and reasonable in prices."

"There is also a village store east of here at the south corner of the road south of the stables and Norwell says everyone in Orlane can be trusted," says Gunther adding, "He also says no one really runs the town except for the elected mayor named Ormond who lives at the south of the lake in a big house."

Gunther points to the staff Valerus carries and says, "I also asked him about the fishing in the lake and he said 'there are a few fish I reckon' but he was not sure about any lake property being for sale."

Then the young Paladin mentions that Norwell has not heard about any reports of missing or mutilated cattle and that the farmer does not know about any reports of homes being broken into or property being damaged.

Gunther also informs the group that Norwell said "most of the people here worship the goddess Merikka, the goddess of Agriculture" and that "we are good folk who don't go bothering other people."

Also, according to Norwell the fields are so prosperous and crops continue to grow even where the people have disappeared because of the soil having a combination of the wetlands to the south and the dry soil from the Dim to the north to nurture the crops is the farmer's guess.

Gunther waits long enough for the group to decide which inn for the young Paladin to rendezvous at before nightfall and for which adventurers will accompany him to go pay a courtesy call on Mayor Ormond before Gunther proceeds in the direction of the lake.
