Subject: You fought the law, and the law...

"Where I come from, you don't strike an old woman, coward!"

The two guardsmen came to an abrupt halt as a wild man strode towards them. Their eyebrows disappeared behind their shining helmets as they soaked in his appearance. The dirty, untamed, and just plain uncivilized look of the man seemed to take them aback initially. Indeed, Dain's unencumbered hand gripped the hilt of his sword, the leather of his gauntlet creaking slightly against that of his boarhide handle wrapping.

Their expressions grew decidedly grim as another man stepped beside the first. A much cleaner and less ferocious-looking man with distinct Ebou Dari mustaches and a gold hoop piercing his ear. He seemed confident. A man who was afraid of very little and believed in his abilities to handle that which the Wheel pitted against him.

“And where come from,” he said, fingers drumming absently on the leather twined hilt of his blade, as a wry smile curls the tips of his mustaches upward, “neither does a man drag an unconscious woman toward a destination she wishes not to go.”

Even as he spoke, two others joined the men confronting the guards. Both beautiful women, one slight, with lush red hair and a scandalous, blue dress cut in Domani fashion, the other even smaller with the distinct coppery Domani skin, glossy black hair, and striking violet eyes. Despite their size, the similar but distinctly different presence they emanated gave the impression of towering above the two guardsmen. The gorgeous violet-eyed woman was serene, but her eyes flashed imperiously as she surveyed the towns guard who found they couldn't meet her gaze for longer than a glance. The striking blue-dressed woman, on the other hand, with her dress shaping her form in an almost inappropriate manner, seemed supple and fiery in her beauty, inviting the men's gaze but challenging them to do more than look.

"Excuse me gentlemen," the blue-dressed woman said, walking as close to the guards as they will allow, and leaning slightly to the side, "you as well, Sir Ebou Dari," she straightens, "There seems to have been enough blood spilled today, there need not be more, do you agree?" She continues before they can respond, "These women, they are harmless against your might, are they not? Surely this manner of extraction is more than necessary." She looks at the girl once more, then back up to the men, "What could this young woman have done to warrant such treatment?"

“Yes,” the other sightly woman began in a silvery alto, “What is the meaning of such barbarism? Surely there are better methods than dragging unconscious girls through the town and striking down old women in the streets. Explain yourselves, and we will find a solution.”

"You dare call me a coward!?  You dare stand in the way of the law!? You will pay for your impudence!" the guardsman Dain declared angrily, again dropping the poor unconscious woman and leaving Jandran to support her by himself. Standing in front of the four individuals he half drew his sword, bearing the steel. He hesitated, however, as he eyed the two men, one seemingly perched on the edge of violence, one confidently fingering the hilt of his rapier. As his eyes slide to the women, he smirked appreciatively and sheathed his sword instead.

"It would be a shame to harm such fine girls," he muttered. Replacing the grimace on his face with a greasy smile and ignoring the men, he said, "Perhaps we can work out something else. If you delightful girls would care to accompany me, I'm sure we can work out... something to settle your crimes."

"That is quite enough, Dain!" Jandran spat, gently laying Millae to the ground and striding forward to stand next to the offensive man. "Captain Kerwin will hear of this!" Turning to the group, he crossed his arms and set his jaw. Eyeing each of the strangers in front of him, he sighed.

"Outsiders," he murmured, sounding a little exasperated. "You do not know the full situation, and as such, I cannot fault you for this... confrontation. As all of Maeldon must know by now, an Aes Sedai by the name of Nelelle Mathera was murdered. She was discovered last night, her body still warm on her room floor. Millae is believed to be the culprit."

"No!" scrambling to her feet, and not bothering to wipe the blood trickling from her mouth, Mistress Velalin stumbled towards the gathering. In a shaking voice, still gasping with sobs, she clutched her wrinkled, dirty dress and cried, "Millae would never! She adored Nelelle Sedai!"

Turning his head to look at the distraught women while keeping a wary eye on Dain, Jandran rubbed his chin and said, "Please, Mistress Velalin, please. Go see Mistress Leyna and ask her to see to your hurts and give you something for your nerves. Tell her I'm paying any expenses, you'll feel much better for it."

"No! I won't leave Millae to the gallows!"

"Get lost, you stupid old bit!" Dain roared, taking a threatening step towards the flinching woman but stumbling back as Jandran turned and struck him in short ribs. Even with the mail as protection, Dain's eyes bulged, and his breath left him.

"You are out! Of! Line!" Jandran practically shouted, pushing him back another step with a finger in his chest. "Return to the guardhouse and remain there!"

Still trying to catch his breath, Dain scowled darkly at his compatriot. "You'll pay for that, Jandran." he gasped.

"Get out of my sight, Dain."

With one last murderous glance at Jandran and the six strangers who witnessed his humiliation, Dain turned on his heels and stalked off, almost running over a farmer who was not quick enough to get out of his way.

Jandran watched him go, breathing heavily, before turning to face the others. "This has gone quite far enough. I must take Millae to the jailhouse to face justice. Mistress Velalin, you can do nothing but cause yourself more harm. Go. Please. You four!" Directing his attention to the four outsiders, Jandran crossed his arms again, obviously ready for a fight but hoping it wouldn't come to one. "Understand that Lord Lanara has ordered that Nelelle Sedai receives justice. If you insist on interfering, then you will also face the law."

Turning his back on the group he bent and picked up Millae, cradling the unconscious woman in his arms. As he stood, though, he caught sight of Mistress Velalin. Her tear and blood-stained face wore such an expression of despair, of absolute hopelessness and sorrow that even the hardest of hearts would soften. Jandran's seemed to, as his shoulders slumped slightly and he squeezed his eyes shut with a sigh.

"It's a tragic business," he said gently. "And I must say I find it hard to believe. I've known Millae since she was a child. Since we were both children. She was always so gentle." He firmed up slightly, straightening his shoulders. "But I have a duty, and all evidence points to her. If you truly want to help the girl, come to speak with her in the jailhouse when she wakes up. I'll see that you can get to her. Perhaps you might be able to prove her innocence."

Shaking his head sadly, Jandran turned away carrying an unconscious daughter and turning his back to a defeated mother and six onlookers as he strode down the solemn street.

USS Peregrine, Captain's Mess - 1615

Carefully, Nyle watched the Captains face redden. The idea of a traitor amongst them was understandably infuriating. Nyle himself found the idea repulsive. To go behind the backs of those that served beside you; those that often put their lives in your hand and stoutly defended your own. The Ops Chief knew it didn't show on his face, but inside he felt a ball of... Not exactly anger, but perhaps a solid, righteous indignation. Anger often clouded judgment, and there wasn't room for that growing up on Daa'V.

The Captain addressed Nyle, then, saying in a short precise tone, "It sounds like you have your first major project, then, Lieutenant Nyle - I want complete diagnostics performed on all of Lieutenant Sh'iraolnas' computer gear.  Set up a monitor.  Lieutenant Sh'iraolnas, once the monitor routine is confirmed, I want you to start keying your research again." He then turned back to Nyle.  "When the data is invariably wiped, you can hopefully trace what process did so, and where this process initiated - if not by whom."

"As you say, Captain," Nyle replied, nodding his head in acceptance. Idly, he wondered what would drive someone to do something like this. What in the world could be worth it?

The Captain frowned before addressing the Andorian again.  "Have you entered your research on any equipment that isn't specifically yours?  As in, besides your own personal terminal, PADD or department terminals?  If Nyle cannot find anything, the next step may be to rip out all of your physical equipment and replace it with new gear, on the off chance that it has been physically altered in some way."  His gaze settled on the Chief Engineer.  "Eric, if it comes to that, I want you to personally oversee the new equipment."

Captain Drake gritted his teeth.  "I want this traitor found.  Starfleet Intelligence may want to enjoy a nice chat with them... provided they don't run into an airlock mishap before then."

Nyle blinked at that. The Captain was a lot... Harder than most of the other Starfleet captains he had served under. However, Nyle couldn't say that it wasn't a fate undeserved. Indeed, years ago, Nyle would have thought that method was merciful if not anything else.

"Nyle, I wonder... your computer issue seems rather odd." The Captain stated, drawing Nyle's attention to him. "As does the timing.  You may want to coordinate with Engineering on this, and Lieutenant Tal feels that she has some resources that may be of use to you. I wonder if this might be related in any way to the vanishing report; I am not much of a believer in coincidences."

Internally, Nyle's brow furrowed. That was a possibility that he hadn't considered. Someone who was just a little careless might overlook something in their malicious program that would cause the computer to bug out. However, logically, the issue would have started much earlier. Probably within the first couple of days that Lieutenant Sh'iraolnas had first noticed her reports being deleted.

"With all due respect, Captain," Nyle replied, keeping his tone regulated to what he believed to be properly deferential. "I'm inclined to believe that if the two issues were related then we might have seen evidence of the strange computer bug sooner rather than just today. I will, however, look further into it, Captain.

Captain Drake sat back in his chair.  "Very well.  I have reviewed the refit and resupply reports, as well as the crew transfer orders.  Is there anything else here that needs to be brought to my attention?"

"If I may make a suggestion, sir," Nyle replied. "It seems to me that in the name of security it may be worth keeping this... issue among the senior officers. I feel it is safe to assume that everyone in this room is trustworthy. That being said, if word got out that there was a traitor--" Nyle felt his normally monotone voice heat slightly with the word. "-- in our midst, then it would likely make our attempts to catch and persecute them that much more difficult. Just a suggestion, sir."

The Captain nodded.  "In that case, I won't take up any more of your time.  Dismissed."

Nyle rose at that, and immediately set off to carry out the orders he had recieved.

Subject: Wilhelm here...

Stardate: 2365.03.29
USS George Washington Carver, Deck 1, Conference Room - 0752

Looking at the technical report and retest results of the failed Warp Field Compensator on his PADD, Kurt wandered into the conference room. Well, it was more as a stumble as he accidentally stepped on Bruno's paw, causing the pooch to yelp and dart away. Adjusting his thick glasses back up on his nose, he returned his attention to the PADD. He was oblivious to the spread of snacks and the other officers in the room as he sat down at the table.

He was in the process of signing the reports and approving them for routing up to the XO when the Captain began the meeting.

"Good morning," Captain Rouhani began. "I hope everyone is well rested. Before we get started, a quick announcement: Captain Kerawa says the Ada Lovelace is going to be late. They had an issue on Deck 3 they couldn't resolve without taking the warp core offline. Due to complications, it's going to take them three days to put it all back together. They are planning on arriving on Thursday. Many thanks to you and your team, Lieutenant Wilhelm."

Kurt blinked and bobbed his head in return to the thanks and nods he received.

"As all of you know, our primary mission is to explore Rho Puppis, a previously uninhabitable system rich in dilithium. A terraforming crew is on its way to transform these planets and make them habitable for the colonists who will eventually mine and refine the rich dilithium deposits in the system. This is part of a longer-range plan. Admiral Hanson of Starbase 324 says the terraforming craft is on its way. Traveling at Warp Two, it'll take them six months to get here and we need to have a landing site mapped out for them by the time they arrive. We'll begin by exploring Rho Puppis I and figuring out why we've been unable to pick much of anything up with our scans.

"Lieutenant Siric, what do we know about Rho Puppis I?"

The Vulcan COO sitting between the XO and the CTO states in a flat tone, "Captain, long range sensors indicate that Rho Puppis I is 1.12 earth sized, .98 earth mass, .87 earth solar rotation, and gravity is comparable.  Sensors are only picking up the planet's gravitational pull, and cannot scant the planet itself.  The Paulson Nebula is only 2.27 trillion kilometers away from the solar system, it is 82% dilithium hydroxyls, magnesium, and chromium, also making scanning, as well as warp penetration, nearly impossible.  One oddity is that Rho Puppis I has a lunar wobble as if a satellite would affect the planet's tides.  But there is no lunar satellite."

"Thank you, Lieutenant," Rouhani turned to her left to address the CSO. "Lieutenant McGinty, what else could cause a lunar wobble if not for a lunar satellite?  What's the severity of the wobble?  How could that affect conditions on the planet's surface?"

McGinty replied, "Off the top of my head, a high-density low orbit satellite, or the planet has been struck by an asteroid, or a large object has passed within the vicinity pulling the planet very slightly off its axis.  Looking at these readings, it's not a very severe wobble at all, it's equivalent of what Earth experiences with her moon.  As for affecting lunar conditions, it'll make high tides higher and low tides lower assuming there's an ocean."

"Very interesting, thank you, Lieutenant."  Standing straighter and addressing the next individuals in turn, the captain continued. "Lieutenant Siric, once we arrive I want you to perform some short-range scans to determine atmospheric conditions and weather patterns on the surface and gather data about them. Let's see what conditions an away team might have to contend with."

"Of course Captain."

"How long before we arrive Lieutenant?"

"We will arrive at Rho Puppis I in 3 hours, 17 minutes, 27 seconds." The Vulcan stated.

"Thank you, Lieutenant." Turning to Maximus, she continued. "Commander Cole, can you start preparing an away team to gather more information about the surface once we get a handle on conditions down there? Lieutenant Siric, keep Commander Cole informed about what his people will be up against."

"Lieutenant Wilhelm, once we arrive you'll be able to fully investigate the hiccups we've been experiencing. When the Ada Lovelace arrives, contact their Engineering officer to compare notes about these problems. Let's learn from each other. Get me a report of your findings as soon as you know what happened."

Wilhelm tilted his head to the right as he listened. It would be very interesting to coordinate with the Engineer on the Lovelace and to see what problems they had run into. He couldn't wait to see what issues turned out to be a problem with ships design and what issues turned out to be isolated to particular components that had managed to scrape past Quality Assurance in the Shipyards.

"Lieutenant Stark, rumors on board tell me that drills have become too routine. Now's the time to shake things up. Come up with some new drills that stir things up a bit. We don't know what we'll encounter on the surface and we need to be prepared for anything.

"Lieutenant Falcone, I want a full inspection report of the Waverider. This is a brand-new atmospheric shuttle and we should know what it's capable of. I want to see a plan for short-range testing soon after we arrive. Let's see what she's capable of, shall we?"

"Aye, sir," Jenna replied. "It'll be ready."

"Doctor Draci, you'll be ready for anything once our away team has left the ship. Also, please recirculate that Councilor Young is available to all crew, we're going to be out here a long time, I don't need my men getting cabin fever while they're trying to do their jobs.

"Keep up the good work and welcome to Rho Puppis. What questions does anyone have?"

"Just one, Sir. What is your plan for the approach? Just so I can determine when to release the Waverunner?" Jenna asked. "She'll be ready regardless, Sir." Jenna was already running schematics through her head.

"That will depend on the short-range scans, Lieutenant Falcone," Cmdr. Cole answered for Captain Rouhani. "Provided that the scans work, they'll show us where we can set down and what kind of atmosphere we're to expect on the surface. From that data, we'll be able to extrapolate the correct entry angle and plot a trajectory for the Waverunner to the landing site.

"I'll be putting the team together over the next three and a half hours, or so," Max continued. "I expect I'll need you, Lieutenant McGinty, you too Lieutenant Draci, and Lieutenant Stark as well. Lieutenant Falcone, of course, will pilot the Waverunner. Mister Stark, if you feel it proper, you can bring along another from your department. Lieutenant Wilhelm, please work with Lieutenant McGinty and put together teams for proper surface scans. We may need to set up multiple sites for science relays in order to get a detailed report and with as mysterious as Rho Puppis I has been thus far, I don't imagine we're going to find it much more welcoming on the surface so we'll want to make our initial stay as short as possible.

"I know it's not a contest, but it sure would be nice to have a leg up on our end of things that push the Ada Lovelace. There's absolutely no reason why we can't have a really solid lead after three days."

"It vill be done, sir." Kurt nodded and turned his attention to the red-haired McGinty. "I vill hafe to look at tse roster and see who I can spare. Tsere are still many different operations tsat I need personnel for, but I am sure tsat tsere are a few. I vill hafe some names for you vithin tse hour. How many do you predict you vill need?"

I'm not gonna let the work get in the way of what's important, though! I'll try to keep my posts coming at a steady pace. Unfortunately, though, I may not be able to maintain the usual level of detail I try to put into my posts.

So, Dragon, your character isn't an Aes Sedai. A Wilder is someone who has had no formal training, whereas an Aes Sedia has gone through a momentous amount of training.

Just an fyi, otherwise great post! Great posts from everyone so far!

So, unfortunately with the character class you have you aren't proficient martial weapons which is what a longsword is. If you check out the equipment in the rulebook, you can switch to any simple weapon, which you I believe you do have a proficiency in.

You can always use a weapon you're not proficient in, but it would result in a negative modifier to attack rolls.

Also, as far as you're weave affinity is concerned: women generally dont have an affinity for fire. That doesnt mean you cant use weaves with fire, you just dont get the bonus.

I tried to give you weaves that pertained to protecting or aiding, as that was what you had expressed earlier. If you want to check out the other weaves that are available you can find them in the rulebook or if you have trouble with that, I can list the ones you'd be able to use.

Subject: The game is up!

Alright, everyone! You all should have your characters and we should be ready to go! I've started the game, so have at it!

One other thing, just so you all have an idea of what time the game is taking place:

This is happening approximately 2 months after the Seanchan has invaded and conquered Ebou Dar. Elayne Trakand, the Daughter Hier of Andor has returned to Caemlyn to make her claim on the Lion Throne, Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, has taken the Laurel Crown of Illian and now calls himself King, and it is rumored that the White Tower is fractured and an army of Rebel Aes Sedai is marching to depose the Amyrlin Seat, Elaida.

So, those that are familiar with the series should have an idea of what is happening in the world, those that aren't, well, those are the hottest topics of gossip right now!

The flickering lamp light cast faint, dancing shadows across her sons face as Irythe Lanara opened the door to the spare room being used as an infirmary. It was a nice room with expensive paintings hanging on the walls, depicting scenes of hunters catching prey and generals leading armies in battles that may or may not have ever happened. Along the wall that the door entered into stood a fine, wooden washstand with a pale white glass bowl atop it. It was not Sea Folk porcelain, Irythe knew, but she took pride in being able to afford even that and it was kept meticulously clean by the serving women. Beside the washstand stood the tall oak dresser. Finely crafted and polished, the light from Iryth's lamp reflected back to her in its dark surface.  Against the far wall lay a large, canopied bed with red silk blankets and drooping gauze curtains tied to the bedposts to be kept out off the way. It was really big enough for three if they didn't mind banging elbows, but now only it only contained one. Her adult son, Rian.

His rooms were much finer, but with the fits he had been experiencing, Irythe had insisted he be moved out into this spare room so that his wife might be able to get some sleep. Oh, how these fits pained her. Watching her only son twist and thrash about, bearing his teeth and contorting his face in horrific visages of agony while foam formed on his lips. It was absolutely horrifying and made her want to faint straight away. He hadn't truly come into consciousness since the first bout and Irythe missed his charming smile and sharp wit.

Dabbing her eyes slightly with a soft cotton handkerchief, Irythe strode across the thick Tairen carpets to the only other piece of furniture in the room: a delicate looking wooden chair with curving legs and arms and soft feather cushions. Pulling the chair closer to her prostrated son, Irythe practically collapsed into it.

With a strangled breath, she stared at her child. He was so pale now where once there had been a fine tan. His sunken eyes fluttered under his eyelids, but they did not open and his breath was so shallow. It came and went in short rasps and slight gurgling chokes. For a moment Irythe only stared, then, as if something broke inside her, she sobbed and threw herself onto her son's chest.

"Why, Rian!? Why must this have happened!" she whispered hoarsely in between sobs, clutching at his sweat-stained silk nightshirt.

She wasn't sure how long she lay like that, crying into his chest and clutching him to her, but eventually the tears stopped coming and she found herself breathing more evenly. With a small sniff, she pushed herself back onto the chair behind her, leaning forward to caress her sons pale, sweaty face.

"I will always remember you as you were, my son." She whispered, her voice barely making a noise. "Always."

She felt the tremors more than saw them begin. A small twitch in an otherwise lax face. It was only a small indication of what was to come, however, as that small twitch was followed by a larger, which was followed again by one even more dramatic until finally Rian was convulsing in his bed, his limbs jerking so hard and violently that Irythe had to release her hold on his face and scoot her chair back to avoid accidentally being struck. Foam began to form in her son's mouth, and he began to gurgle. A terrible, grotesque gurgle.

"Beras," Irythe called calmly, feeling her heart break inside her chest. "Quickly, find Nelelle Sedai! Ask her to come immediately! Tell her that it is Rian! Quickly now, go!"

Beras didn't stay to acknowledge the orders he had been given. He merely sprung from where he was standing beside the door and broke into a steady run, off to find Nelelle Sedai.

**************************************************************************************************************************************************

With a soft sigh, Nelelle Mathera rubbed the bridge of her nose. She was beginning to get a headache. A pity one couldn't heal herself, but that thought had crossed her mind many times over the two centuries she had been Aes Sedai. It was all that Lanara boys fault. Well, not entirely his if she was to be fair. He certainly didn't choose to ill, and definitely didn't choose to be ill with something that somehow Nelelle couldn't heal.

It was infuriating, Nelelle was accounted a fair healer by her peers in the Yellow Ajah, but no matter what she did, the weaves seemed to have no effect. The Lanara boy simply got worse and worse, paler and weaker. He was now at a point where she wouldn't use any strong healing on him in fear that he wasn't strong enough to handle it. It was a problem she had been bashing her head against for 2 weeks now, but yesterday... Yes, yesterday something different had happened. She had adjusted her weave ever so slightly and... Well, it seemed to have worked. Not in any major sense, but when she delved him after, the fever and shakes seemed to be slightly unrooted from within him.

"But why!?" the Yellow growled, looking down at the book that she was unsuccessfully trying to read: The Tales of Jain Farstrider.

It was then that there was a soft knock on the door. With another soft sigh, Nelelle closed the book and stood from her cushioned chair to replace it on the small bookshelf in the room. She had already read it many times anyway. Her room was comfortable, not as grand as some might expect an Aes Sedai to occupy, but she didn't really care for grandeur. Well, not all the time. There were times when grandeur was... useful. A bright fire in the brick fireplace lit the room at this late hour, bringing in a warmth that staved off the chill that had finally come after such an unnaturally long summer. Atop the mantle above it sat a couple of ivory carvings of odd animals that Nelelle didn't truly believe to be more than the imaginings of the carver. After all, how could a horse have a neck and legs that long without crumpling into a heap on the floor?  Tucked away in the corner was a single bed, large enough that Nelelle didn't feel cramped, but not so large to fit more than one. It was covered with a soft quilt with another sheet underneath and feathered pillows. It was all very comfortable, and the best that Mistress Dagagin had. She was a good woman, Mistress Dagagin. Her husband was a rather successful merchant, dealing in furs and jewels that came in from the Mountains of Mist and he had set up a decent homestead for his wife and two children.

Gliding back to her seat, Nelelle Sedai sat down and arranged her night dress around her. Putting on her best Aes Sedai face, she commanded, "Come."

After the briefest of hesitations, the door opened and Millae Velalin stepped into the room, holding a small tray with a pitcher and teacup.

"Nelelle Sedai," She said breathily, dropping into a curtsy that was much better than the first one she had ever made to the Aes Sedai. "I... I thought you might still be awake, so I brought you some warm tea."

"That is very kind of you, child. Leave it on the corner table there then go home. It is much too late for you to be here, and I won't tolerate you oversleeping tomorrow. I have things that need to be doing and will need you with me to attend."

"Y-yes, Nelelle Sedai." Averting her gaze from the Aes Sedai's piercing looks, Millae scurried to table in the corner and laid the tray down, only delaying her exit to shakily pour a cup and bring it to the Aes Sedai. "May the L-light grace you, Nelelle Sedai." she murmured, dropping another curtsy before turning and practically running from the room.

"What has gotten into that girl," Nelelle wondered as the door clicked. She was normally a little fluff-headed, but not nearly this nervous. In fact, she had done an excellent job waiting on Nelelle Sedai for the past month she had been in Maeldon. Nelelle was very seriously considering taking the young girl with her when she left.

With a faint smile, the Aes Sedai took a sip of the tea that had been brought her. Perhaps mint tea was not the tea to bring on such a chilly night, but still, the young woman's heart was in the right place. With another sip, Nelelle stood, meaning to retrieve the book and actually read it this time, but as she rose she suddenly felt very light headed. Her legs didn't seem to want to work as she tried to move back to the bed. What was going on?

Shaking her head, Nelelle Sedai tried to clear her mind. What was she going to do? Something about a book. No, that wasn't it. Light, she was so tired. She couldn't sleep now, though, Jain Farstrider needed her to help him rescue a kidnapped child. But, that couldn't be right. That was just a story, right? That was just... just...

With a stumbling step towards the bed, Nelelle collapsed to the ground, dropping her cup to the ground where it shattered, splashing tea across the nice carpet. Laying there on the ground, Nelelle knew she should be alarmed, that she should call back Millae or someone. Instead, she blinked once, then closed her eyes.

Lights Last Embrace, a Wheel of Time Game

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, and Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Dhoom. The wind was not the beginning, there are neither Beginnings nor endings to the turning of The Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

Southward the wind blew, over the Blight sick mountains, carrying with it the sickly sweet stench of decay and darkness. Down is swooped, over the peaks, brushing the black speckled leaves of trees that weren't truly trees any longer. Down, and down it went, rushing past the Blight Border. The stench of the Blight was only a faint aroma by the time that the wind passed over one of the many watchtowers that ran along the Blight, unnoticed by the Saldean armsmen as they kept a vigilant watch, waiting for the Blight to wake from its unnatural sleep. Down, through the cold land it blew, passing over wary farmers and merchants as they went about their work. Down along the forests and plains of Saldea until it brushed up against the white-capped Mountains of Mist, the tips of which were lost in the clouds. Along the mountains the wind howled picking up speed and shaking the bare branches of the trees at the base of the mountain. Down it blew, buffered by the mountains, bashing itself against their impenetrable peaks until it lost its vigor and settled into a chilling breeze. Down this breeze blew, chilling farmers out in their fields, causing them to pull their cloaks closer and mutter soft prayers of thanks to the Light that the terrible summer now seemed to be over. Down it blew until passed over a town.

This town, Maeldon by name, was neither a large city nor a small village. Not quite big enough to warrant being jotted down on any major maps, it lay perhaps four or five days of hard riding north of Baerlon in Andor, nestled between the Mountains of Mist and the River Arinelle.

Whether by chance or by the strange weavings of the Pattern, six strangers of different paths found themselves in Maeldon this day, each in need of a place to sleep away the cold night that was sure to come. Each had wandered through the town, asking farmers who had come to sell their sickly and shriveled harvest or townsfolk out at the market for directions to an inn. Each was directed to the Gleeman's Abode.

The Gleeman's Abode, located almost in the center of the town was neither impressive in its standing nor concerning in its condition. Well maintained, but a little worn, the three-story building was marked by a painted sign above the door swinging in the breeze and depicting a man in the colorfully patched cloak of a gleeman juggling brightly colored balls.

Again, whether by chance or by the weavings of the Pattern, these six individuals found themselves arriving at the door to the Inn at the same time. In the briefest of moments that it took to decide who should enter first, the quiet bustle of the street was shattered by a heart-wrenching cry.

"Noooo! You cannot take her, please! No! Please!"

The street came to a standstill as everyone paused to look at the source of this cry. Two towns guardsman, decked in shirts of mail and wearing shining steel conical helmets with narrow steel noseguards, each wearing a blue armband emblazed with the image of a white rose flanked a young woman. Each gripped her arm tightly as they marched from a small house carrying her along rather than guiding her, as she seemed to be unconscious, her head lolling back and forth with each step. Following the two guardsmen, pulling at one of their arms and clutching a dough roller in the other, was a woman with gray-streaked hair. Even from a distant, it was apparent that tears streamed down her face.

"Not my Millae, please no! She hasn't done anything! You know her, Jandran! She would never! Please! She is all I have, please!" the woman wailed, pulling with all her might but to no effect on the guardsman Jandran's arm.

"Mistress Velalin," the other guard announced, not breaking stride but looking past his companion to the weeping and struggling woman. "By the order of Lord Lanara, we must take Millae into custody. Your struggling does her, nor yourself any favors. Now step back!"

"I won't let you take her!" Mistress Velalin screeched, releasing Jandran's arm and raising the dough roller above her head as though it were a club. "I WILL NO-"

That was as far as she got, however, as the unnamed guardsman dropped Millae's arm and stepped around his companion to backhand the old woman across the face, dropping her to the dirty street below. Just as quickly, Jandran laid Millae to the ground to seize his companions upraised hand.

"Enough, Dain!" He growled, ignoring the glares Dain gave him. Turning to look and the woman sprawled in the street, sobbing harder then ever he knelt and said something soflty to her, trying to help her to her feet. He rose, however, when she batted his hands away and stated, "It pains us to do this, Mistress Velalin. Millae was a sweet girl."

Together, with Dain, they picked the limp form of Millae off of the ground and continued down the street.

With every step further away they got, Mistress Velalin's sobs got harder until finally her entire body shook as she sat in the street, tears mingling with blood dripping down her distraught face. Diverting their gazes, the townsfolk and farmers began to go about their business, leaving the pitiful woman to her grief.

Alright, I'll get to work making the character sheet after I get back from actual work tonight. If I've heard from Nimu about her nationality as well then I'll get hers made too. All that being said, we should be ready to start either tomorrow or wednesday at the latest.

Expect a post around then!

Stardate 2365.02.19
USS Peregrine, Captain's Mess - 1600

Quietly Nyle sat in his seat next to a blond haired women in a yellow uniform and across from another woman, this time with wavy brown hair in a ponytail. He didn't know who either of them were, but over the next couple of days he intended to officially introduce himself and get to know them. For now, however, he had too much to think about to put forth the effort.

The incident with the computer on the bridge was troubling him. Petty Officer Amai had given him the report; about half of the other compartments on the ship had recieved the same random announcement and nothing in the system itself indicated why. He had never ran into a problem like this before, but rarely did you ever encounter the same issue twice. Well, at least if you were competent in making repairs you didn't. It frustrated him to no end to be presented with a problem with no way to work towards a solution. Dwelling on it now, however, did him no good.

He was spared any further agonizing over the situation, however, as his attention was draw to the Captain who spoke up. "Thank you all for joining me," he stated.  "Once again, the Peregrine has seen a large amount of turnover; I'd like to officially welcome Lieutenant Tal, Lieuteanant Nyle, and Doctor Reine aboard.  Furthermore, I'd like to welcome Commander Thorson back."

Drake glanced down at his PADD for a moment before continuing.  "Let's go ahead and address the elephant in the room.  I am well aware that my face has been plastered all over the holovids of late.  Yes, I was court martialed for my actions in the Gamera system.  I was, in fact, aquitted of all serious charges.  No, I am not particularly intrested in rehashing any of this.  My focus is on the missions to come, as should yours be."

Direct and to the point. Nyle could respect that. He could also respect the desire to let the whole situation be left alone. He had certainly grown very sick of talking about his experience when in a similar predicament.

After a slight pause, the Captain continued.  "Now, then.  Since Lieutenant Lasad has transferred out, I do need to name a Second Officer."  Glancing to his left, he acknowledged his new Tactical Chief.  "Lieutenant Tal, you have tehcnically been a full Lieutenant longer than Lieutenant Nyle.  However, while on medical leave, you did not accumulate seniority, which means that Lieutenant Nyle has a little over three months on you.  This makes the decision very clear."  Drake then fixed his gaze on the new Daa'Vit Operations chief.  "Congratulations, Lieutenant Nyle - you are now offically the Second Officer of the USS Peregrine."

Nyle blinked. That was certainly unexpected, he honestly didn't expect to come near a Second Officer position for two or three years yet. Still, he wasn't going to say no. He did glance at the blond woman to his right, however. Lieutenant Tal may not be to happy to be overlooked for this position. Was she the type of person to hold on to resentment over lost promotions? He didn't know her well enough to say, but he doubted it. Starfleet was quick to quell any of that behavior. Still, his initial instinct, something bred into him from growing up on Daa'V, was to preemptively lash out. Show her that he was not someone to be trifled with. Nyle stomped down on that feeling quite fiercely. There was no room for that at all! Turning his eyes to the man at the head of the table, Nyle tried to smile.

"Thank you, Captain." he replied, trying to nod his head in what he presumed was a gracefull show of gratitude. "I shall not disappoint."

Setting his mug aside, Commander Zai made a note on his own PADD, then, offering the Daa’Vit a faint nod, said; “Congratulations, Nyle.”

Again, Nyle nodded. This time in the direction of the XO.

"Moving on," the Captain spoke as the projector flared to life to reveal a star chart,  "Starfleet Command has ordered us to proceed to the Trevil system, which lies in the middle of an important shipping lane that has come under attack several times by pirate vessels in the past few weeks.  Starfleet Intelligence has reason to believe that another attack is immenent, so we will be patrolling the lane from Trevil, through Akgor, and back as far as Denbir."  A glance around the table revealed less than enthused expressions.  "Yes, we have drawn guard duty, which is hardly glamorous or iteresting - but which is vital to the interests of the Federation."

“At this point, Captain,” Commander Zai scoffed absently, “we think it’s likely preferable to escorting diplomats.”

Nyle glanced at the XO, but returned his attention to the Captain. He said 'we' again. Strange.

Nyle didn't mind guard duty. Honestly, little of what the mission actually was changed his day to day job. Or, at least, that was the case in previous vessels. Either way, his attention would be focused mainly on the maintenance of systems and ensuring that everyone was getting what they needed. If they ran into problems out there... Well, he would adjust accordingly.

Captain Drake's gaze settled back on Kara.  "Lieutenant Tal, I got your message.  I think that drills are an excellent idea.  I'd like for you to put together a proposed schedule, and have it on my desk by 0900 on Monday, please."

Again, Nyle glanced at the woman sitting to his right. Drills? Nyle approved, not that that accounted for anything, but a prepared and practiced ship was all that much more likely to return home after the unexpected happened. Yes, Nyle approved greatly. As his eyes slid back to the Captain, Nyle made a mental note to offer her his assistance after the conclusion of the meeting.

The Captain looked back around the table.  "Are there any other concerns?  Any items I should know about, anything else that we should be preparing for?"

(OOC: So, I'm not sure who spoke first, Zai or Asovil, and as such I'm just not going to include their discussions in this post as of now. I'll edit accordingly when I have a better idea of how the conversation flowed.)

"Also, Captain." Nyle broke in blandly, after everyone else had quieted down. "There was a minor mishap with the computer system approximately thirty minutes ago. It activated without any request and stated some information that was pertinent  to nothing in particular. We are currently investigating the cause, but as of right now it appears to be an isolated incident with no symptoms of further problems. I will keep you informed if anything new developes."

Bloodbank let out a sigh of relief when the door clicked open. He had no idea how Fixer did what he did, but he was obviously pretty good at it.

Bloodbank followed Blossom as she slipped inside and took a good look at his surroundings. The dark, cubicle filled room was deserted, thankfully. It was looking more and more like his abilities wouldn't be needed her after all and he wasn't even remotely sorry about that. Now it was just up to Blossom, and hopefully she wouldn't take long at all.

As Blossom slipped into a cublicle, the Medtech silently peered further into the room. He couldn't see any other entrances in the darkness, and he wasn't about to go wandering off deeper into the blackness to investigate further. He didn't like not knowing if someone was creeping up on them from the hallway, though, so he turned around and crept out of the room, standing by the Casino and the doorway and keeping an eye out up and down the hall.

He wasn't standing there long before Fixer brushed past him, giving him a thumbs up. That had to be a good sign! Bloodbank smiled behind his battlemask as he watched Fixer walk towards the window. This had gone just as smoothly as he had hoped!

His smile slid off his face, however, when Echo and Blossom exited the room, each holding a computer.

"I thought we agreed that there would be no stealing!" He hissed, eyeing them through his mask.

(OOC: Responses.)

"I don't care the stealing is completely unnecessary." Bloodbank whispered fiercely, jabbing a finger at the boxes that they held.

(OOC: I'm going to pause here for any interactions.)

Stardate: 2365.03.28
USS George Washington Carver, Deck 3 - 2025

With a small sniff, Kurt pushed his glasses back up to the bridge of his nose. In front of him the stood open the doors to the Transporter Buffer room where loose objects all seemed to be stacked against a wall. Well, technically the had fallen against the wall. Tilting his head slightly to the right, he extended his arm through the doorway and dropped the tin cup he was holding. It really was fascinating watching it shoot to the right to bounce off of the stack of objects.

"So," he said, stepping back from the doorway and turning to the individuals standing beside him. "Vhat do you hafe in mind?"

Standing in front of him where three individuals, all in the Starfleet yellow that indicated their belonging to the Engineering Department. Standing on the left was his Assistant Chief Engineer, Dolia. A rather tall - well, taller then Kurt, at least - Zaldan, as indicated by her webbed fingers, she had short cut, black hair and a tight, slightly frowning mouth. In the 12 days that Kurt had been aboard he had found her to be a determinded worker, something that he approved of.

To her left stood Crewman Kai Kahale, the department's Life Support and Environmental Systems specialist. A large Polynesian individual, he dwarfed the officer to his right, and seemed to be made of solid muscle. If Kurt was to be honest with himself, he often forgot the man existed.

The final man of the three was Master Chief Thomas Anderson. The Propulsion Specialist aboard, he had more years in Starfleet under his belt then many in the department had alive. He had a hard, weathered face with short cut gray hair. The feature that always drew Kurts eye, though, was the bushy gray moustache on his upper lip. If Kurt wasn't carefull, he'd often find himself talking to the moustache instead of the individual.

The three of them exchanged glances, and Kurt realized he had interrupted them in the middle of explaining what exactly they had in mind. Adjusting his glasses again, Kurt cleared his throat and said, "From tse beginning, now."

"Well, sir," Ensign Dolia replied, frowning slightly. "After conferring with Master Chief Anderson and Crewman Kahale it has been determined that in order to perform repairs on the Warp Field Compensator we will likely have to drop to impulse power."

"Ah, I see." Kurt tilted his head to the left again and rubbed his chin. "Tsat is rather problematic, vouldn't you say? Crewman Kahale, how long do you expect tse repairs to take?"

"Sir, unless the Compensator is completely shot and requires a completely new replication it shouldn't take more then a hour to replace affected components."

With a harumph, Kurt took off his glasses, effectively turning the world around him into a blur of different colors. Wiping the thick lense on his shirt he thought for a moment. He doubted the Captain would be very happy if the ship had to be brought to a virtual standstill in order to make repairs, even if it were for only an hour. However, in order for the gravity to stop being so wonky they would have to drop out of warp. The gravity would have to be less wonky in order to get access to the compartment and open up the deckplates, but perhaps they could --

=/= Cole to Engineering. =/=

-- secure all gravity compensation to that compartment altogether and do the work in zero g's. But no, while in warp removing gravity would have severe negative effects on everything in that compartment. However, if they secured gravity to the compartment and perhaps compensated for the warp field interactions some how. How could they do that? What if they --

"This is Ensign Dolia, go ahead."

-- magnified the gravity in the compartment below. Yes... yes, that might work. The Gravity Plating was rated for up to 3.5 g's before failure. Would that work? Yes, it could, theoretically, if the Generator could handle the strain. The power required did increase exponentially beyond a single g. What was the --

=/= Please report on the situation on Deck 3. =/=

-- design output for the Generators again? 1500 MW? No, 1475 MW! Yes that was it. Replacing his glasses on his nose, Kurt stuck his tongue in his teeth. Well, what would the required Plating output be to generate enough of a field in the above compartment that personnel could safely enter? Perhaps 2.2 g's? He would have to math it out to be sure, but it couldn't be more then 2.5 g's and that shouldn't draw more then 350 MW from the Generator. Normal loading for full ship gravity would be about 927 MW if he remembered correctly. This should work.

"Sir, it appears that the Warp Field Compensator has malfunctioned. In order to enter the compartment to make repairs, we will likely have to drop out of warp. It shouldn't take more than a--"

"Actually, sir," Kurt broke in, looking up to the ceiling. "Tsere may be another option. You see, the Varp Field Compensator is in fact tse problem component. Tsey are a new design, vorking off of tse feedback from tse varp field itself to compensate for tse odd gravitational effects tsat being in varp has on tse compartments. It is a vonderful tseory, quite interesting und vith a few minor adjustments to tse Compensator output gains I expect tsat it vill likely not happen again. However, by moving avay from tse old systems vich used tse detected varp field to compensate power distribution from tse generator itself, ve find tsat it provides us vith a new variety of problems. Such as--"

"Sir!" Ensign Dolia said, stepping forward slightly. "This other solution?"

"Ah, ja." Kurt tilted his slightly, looking at the three Engineering personnel in front of him. "Vell, if ve vere to secure gravity to tse compartment altogether und compensate using the Gravity Plates in tse deck below, I believe ve vill be able to enter the compartment and complete tse repairs vhile remaining at varp. I still have to do some calculations to get tse actuall values ve vould have to input und compensate for, but, Commander, I believe tsat it is fery achievable."

(OOC: Assuming that Bromern doesn't change his reply.)

=/= Understood. Let's make sure that whole thing is put to bed before the captain rises from hers. Thank you. =/=

"Sir!" Master Chief Anderson growled, almost clipping off the end of the XO's reply. "The power required to raise the gravitational field below deck would be extensive. It could easily overstrain the Generator. I'm sure, sir, that I don't need to remind you that that would result in shipwide loss of gravity."

"I understand your concern, Master Chief." Kurt replied, adjusting his glasses so they sat properly on his face and accidently smudging the lense in the process. "However, I believe tsat tse calculations tsat myself and Ensign Dolia shall complete vill find tsat the generator is capable of handling tse excess load."

"Respectfully, sir," Crewman Kahale spoke up, following as Kurt began to walk down the passageway. "The generator already operates near to eighty five percent our normal operation limit. I am worried that increasing the load will put us past that."

"Tsat limit is an extremely conservative estimate, tse generator is rated for power usage almost 200 MW more tsen vhat I estimate tse final loading to be. I vill have a more accurate number for you in about 15 minutes. Now, Crewman Kahale, you are to go to tse compartment below und clear all personnel und equipment tsat may be damaged by tse increased gravitation field tsen return here. Master Chief Anderson, you are to assemble Crewman Jackson. Breif her on tse plan und have her ready to assist Crewman Kahale on tse repairs. Ve vill have tsis done and over vith in less tsan an hour. Come, Ensign, ve hafe some maths to do."
