I've completed all of your character sheets and sent them to you all for review. If you have any questions relating to those, please let me know!

Other then that, once you guys let me know you are good with your characters, then we are good to start and I'll get a post up. I plan to have something up by Sunday at the latest assuming there are no problems with characters.

Also, the computers having a problem! Every couple of hours it is just spouting off a random fact across the ship with no prompting. Ops will be looking into it, rest assured!

Stardate 2365.02.19
USS Peregrine; Deck 3 – Corridor – 1155

“Absolutely, Lieutenant,” the Trill nodded gesturing toward the turbolift, “the Captain wouldn’t have it any other way, we’re sure. I’m on our way back to the bridge, myself.” With that, the XO resumed his path back to the lift with the new Ops Chief at his side.

Silence fell as the pair stepped into the turbolift. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence, at least not to Nyle. He was aware that many other species felt the need to fill the silence with 'small talk', but that was never something that Nyle had been good at. Nor had he ever really wanted to become good at it. He normally would have made an attempt, however, mostly just to be polite. He enjoyed the company of his shipmates, but he just couldn't understand how they were able to talk about nothing. It was really much easier to just listen.

Wait, did he refer to himself in the plural? The thought suddenly popped into Nyle's head, and without realizing it, Nyles eyes shifted to look at the Trill standing next to him. That was certainly strange. I wonder if he is healthy in the mind?

Nyle opened his mouth then, but stopped himself short. That would certainly be an impolite question. Quickly closing his mouth, the Daa'Vit looked away from his XO, hoping that he had gone unnoticed. That would be something that he would have to figure out later, perhaps a little more circumspectly. As for now, he needed to focus on his station.

Nyle did not have long to mentally prepare himself, however, because as soon as he set his mind to that train of thought the turbolift gently halted, and the doors swooshed open.

Commander Zai barely waited for the doors to open wide enough for him to slip through before striding onto the bridge and heading straight for CONN. Nyle stepped out, hot on his heels, but paused upon seeing the man seated in the Captains Chair looking in their direction.

He was a fit, brown haired man with blue eyes. Blue eyes that looked rather stern at the moment. Nyle didn't need the three golden pips on his collar to know this to be the Captain of the Peregrine: Commander Silas Drake.

Quickly, Nyle snapped his best salute, and staring straight ahead, he stated, "Lieutenant Nyle, reporting for duty as the Chief Operations Officer, sir."  He didn't even think of smiling.

The Captain returned the salute before asking, "Cutting it a bit close, aren't we, Lieutenant?"

"Sorry, sir. It won't happen again, sir."

"Take your post, Mister Nyle.  We are ready to make weigh." Captain Drake replied, waving his hand what Nyle took to be a dismissive gesture.

"Aye aye, sir." quickly striding to the opposite side of the bridge, Nyle relieved Petty Officer Amai, nodding his thanks to the Betazoid as she slipped past him and off the bridge.

Glancing back at his CO, Nyle wondered if the captain felt a little slighted. He had reported in to the XO, not the Captain, but LCDR Zai was who was on his orders, so that was who he reported to. That aside, Nyle felt very... dissatisfied with the first impression that Captain Drake must have at him. Arriving a mere five minutes before takeoff to assume the watch. That was just bad watchstanding. If you weren't 15 minutes early to a turnover, then you were late. And Nyle didn't tolerate tardiness.

The Captain spoke again, breaking into Nyle's thoughts, “Maneuver us clear when you’re ready, Commander Zai.”

“Aye, sir,” Tochi responded, “All moorings and gantry-ways are clear, RCS and Impulse engines are online. Taking us out, now.”

Putting those concerns from his mind, Nyle turned his full attention to his panel. Silently, Nyle tapped his screen, pulling up the Sensors Diagnostics page. Both short and long range sensors where operating at optimal capacity, no error codes, and internal self tests were returning satisfactory. Excellent. He tapped again, pulling up the actual Sensor Display. The passive scans clearly displayed the Starbase behind them, just over 3 kilometers behind them, showing Nyle the distinct electromagnetic and heat signature that was common to most Starbases. An active scan would give him more information, but that was unimportant.

Another order from the Captain broke the silence, "Tochi, take us out at heading 225, mark 110, one quarter impulse, please."

“225 mark 110, one quarter impulse” Zai acknowledged, “Aye, sir.”

Nodding to himself, Nyle tapped out of the Sensor Display and brought up Communications. The system also seemed to be function properly. Nyle tapped through the subspace channels, verifying each was capable of recieving signal and verifying the readouts confirmed the ability to transmit communications. Pulling up the Communication backpage, Nyle verified that they were able to connect to the nearest subspace relay. All satisfactory.

Backing out of the Communications page, Nyle was about to pull open the Universal Translator diagnostic when the Captain spoke up again.

“Commander Zai, I’ll be in my Ready Room,” Silas stated, “Let me know when we hit about thirty million kilometers from Starbase 118; that ought to put us safely out of any traffic.  You have the CONN.”

“Acknowledged, Captain,” the Trill returned, “Present velocity should see us at your waypoint in 26.7 minutes.”

Nyle watched Captain Drake leave the bridge, before returning his attention to his panel again. Where was he... Ah, yes, the Universal Translator...

USS Peregrine; Deck 1 – Bridge, 1228

The soft hiss of pnuematics drew Nyles attention away from his panel, everything there was fine anyway. Captain Drake strode back onto the bridge, setting himself down in the Captains Chair.

“Commander Zai, lay in a course for the Trevil system please,” he spoke.

Nyle couldn't help but watch as the Trill in the CONN seat began to tap his panels. This was it, after over three years at in this one location, he was leaving. Perhaps never to return. He felt... well, not melancholy, but there was a small pange of something. It had been his home, after all.

“Course laid in, Captain,” Commander Zai said, glancing back at the Captain, “we are good to go.”

The pang faded, as Nyle too looked at the Captain, replaced by a strong sense of anticipation. This was it.

The Captain hesitated a breif moment, drinking in the view in front of him, then he spoke four clear, precise words. “Warp factor five; engage.”

Nyle watched the stars in front of them distort into long lines before snapping into the almost phsychadelic view of space in warp outside them. It really was a beautiful view, up here on the bridge. Just absolutely magnificent.

“Commander Zai, I think I will drop by and introduce myself to our new Chief Medical Officer,” Silas intoned after a moment, “Once again, you have the CONN.”

“Of course, Captain,” Tochi smiled, “We think you’ll find her quite interesting.”

Nyle returned his attention to his panel again. He hadn't found anything of concern, so he opened up a sub window and accessed personnel files. It was time he really learned about who was in his department.

USS Peregrine; Deck 1 – Bridge, 1443

"I'm ready to relieve you, sir."

Nyle looked up, unsurprised to find Petty Officer Amai standing before him. This was good, as he was supposed to assume the Command watch in about six minutes if the duty schedule was anything to go by.

"Excellent, Petty Officer." Nyle replied, standing from his station and stretching. "You have the station."

"Aye aye, sir." Amai replied as she sat down at the panel.

Nodding to himself, Nyle walked towards the center of the bridge and addressed Commander Zai.

"Commander, sir. I believe I'm due to relieve you as Command now." he said, saluting formally.

(OOC: So, I'm making the assumption that Zai is still in Command at the bridge, and assuming a positive confirmation. I will edit as necessary.)

"Thank you, sir."

(OOC: I'm assuming again that it is not a faux pas to sit in the Captains chair while standing a Command watch.)

Nyle strode back to the captains chair and sat down. It had been a long while since he had stood a watch like this, but it was not to hard to maintain the current heading and speed. In fact, it was downright easy. He just had to sit here and --

=/= Murinite is a mineral that can be found on Rigel IV. The Hill People of Argus River region of Rigel IV often used this mineral in the handles special knives. =/=

What in the world was that! Nyle stared up at the ceiling. That was the computer, but no one had called on it.

Nyle let the silence sit for a moment before breaking it.

"I am assuming I'm not the only one who heard that." he stated, peering at the other watchstanders on the bridge.

"No, sir." Petty Officer Amai replied. "I have pulled up the Computer Diagnostics page, but see nothing abnormal, sir."

"I see." Nyle stood from the chair and strode over to the OPS station. Amai had not missed anything, the computer was functioning properly by all indications. Internal Automatic Self Tests? Satisfactory. CPU Usage history? Peaked at 19% three hours ago, but now steady around 8%. "Petty Officer Amai, pull open computer operation history."

"Aye, sir." With quick, practiced hands, Amai tapped the screen, pulling open the requested window.

Nyle quickly scanned through the list. Not one mention of.... what was it? Some sort of mineral?  On Regal Four?

"Petty Officer Amai," Nyle said, straightening from the panel. "Set the computer to record all program data and operations for the next twenty four hours. I expect this was merely a small blip and an isolated occurance, but should it happen again I would like a indication of what the computer thought it was supposed to be doing."

"Right away, sir."

"And find out if other spaces heard the same announcement."

"Aye, sir."

"Computer, who is the Commanding Officer of the USS Peregrine?" Nyle asked as he walked back to the captains chair.

=/= The Commanding Officer of the USS Peregrine is Commander Silas J. Drake. =/=

So the computer was definitely still functioning then, perhaps its not cause for too much alarm, Nyle thought as he settled back down into the Captains Chair. That was definitely most strange, however...

With his thoughts on the computer, Nyle settled into his watch, waiting until the meeting at 1600 that the Captain had invited the Department Heads to.

Subject: Just a little clarification...

Hey, I just wanted to clarify something about Nyle real quick.

So I'm worried that the description I gave in my character roster gives the impression that the Daa'Vit are humanoid wolfish type people. Unfortunately, that is a misrepresentation.

The Daa'Vit look very similar to humans except their skin is a greenish gray hue and their bone structure gives them a gaunt, almost haunted looking face; which is why I refered to Nyle as looking almost wolfish!

I hope that clears things up if there were any misconceptions! My dad was kind enough to 'shop up a character for me that closely represents what I had in mind. I'm going to try and add that to the roster so you all can get a better idea!

Anywho! Great posts everyone, I intend to have a post up tonight. I think that I'll take it up to the 1800 meeting, but I'll edit if anyone wants to interact with him at all in that time frame.

Subject: Finally got my internet back!

And was able to post, too!

I just have a quick question or two, then I'll edit and add to the post as appropriate.

First off, since the ship is not underweigh, would Nyle be wrong in leaving the OPS Station unmanned to try and find CDR Zai?

Second, is there an Ops Office aboard? Or, like, an center area where they work from? I checked the Tech Specs on A Call to Duty but there were a couple of offices with acronyms that I didn't know so I'm wondering if I'm missing something there.

Finally: I know this isn't a super big thing in my post, but I have someone refering to CDR Zai as Captain Zai while he is in command of the ship. I know that officers given the command of starships are referred to as captain, no matter their rank, but does that apply when one is only temporarily in command or would Commander Zai remain Commander Zai?

Thanks guys! So sorry that took so long.

Stardate 2365.02.19
Starbase 118; LT Nyle's Bunkroom - 0855

Today is the day, Nyle thought, peering at himself in the mirror. He had checked out of his previous command here on Starbase 118 yesterday, and he had spent his morning packing up the last of his belongings. It was humbling to realize that all you truly owned would fit in 2 large bags. Altogether, he was ready to go.

Nyle smiled to himself in the mirror. Or, at least, he tried to. It looked strange. Maybe my eyes are too wide?  he thought to himself, squinting a bit. No, that doesn't seem to help much, now does it...

Softly, Nyle reached up and touched his pale greenish gray face, leaning closer to the mirror. Eyebrows down? No, now I look angry. Up? Now startled! Maybe if I opened my mouth more? Showed more teeth? Hmpf, that will have to do, I guess.

Nyle just did not get it. Humans showed emotion on their face so much more openly then he was used to, even now with over ten years in Starfleet. He had found out very early in his career that his general stone faced appearance quickly put people off, but try as he might he could not bring himself to emote like other races. It wasn't like Nyle was some sort of Vulcan, supressing emotion for the sake of logic, but all the superficial smiling or frowning was beyond him. Nyle would smile when he found something funny, and laugh as well, but what was funny about greeting a friend at the start of a day? Wiping his horrific, forced smile from his face, Nyle turned away from the mirror.

It is odd for such a small room to feel so empty, Nyle pondered as he grabbed his bags, but almost as soon as he entered the passageway outside the thought was gone from his mind. Next stop, USS Peregrine.

Stardate 2365.02.19
Starbase 118; USS Peregrine Spacedock - 0934

With an immensely satisfying hiss of hydraulics, the airlock door slid open giving Nyle the first look into the ship he would be serving on for the foreseeable future. The passageway in view was clean, and relatively uncrowded, so Nyle was noticed before he had a chance to step aboard.

"Good morning, sir," a yellow suited human woman called, smiling as she strode forward to meet him with a salute. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Yes, in fact, Chief," Nyle replied after returning her salute and giving her collar a quick glance. "I'm Lieutenant Nyle, I have orders to report aboard today."

"Ah, Lieutenant." the Chief responded, shifting her PADD to her left hand and offering her right in a handshake. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you. I'm Chief Petty Officer Tara Palmer. I'm your Personnel Management Specialist. Can I point you towards Captain Zai?"

Nyle took the outstretch hand, giving it a firm shake. All most too late he remembered to smile, and quickly put the practiced expression on his face. Ignoring the startled look on that bloomed on Chief Palmers face, Nyle shook his head slightly and said, "All in good time, Chief. I will see him before we go underweigh, rest assured. First I would like to quickly get aquainted with any current operations and systems that the department is handling. Can you direct me towards the Operations Office?"

"I can, sir!" With her free hand she gestured down the hall. "Go that direction until you reach a turbolift and take that to the fourth deck. Your office will be close to the other Department Heads offices; and, of course, if you ever get lost you can always ask the computer."

Nodding his thanks to the Chief, Nyle turned down the passageway and made his way towards the Ops Office, giving each person he passed a nod and smile. Somehow he managed to miss the strange looks that were returned.

Stardate 2365.02.19
USS Peregrine; Ops Office - 1103

Rubbing his chin, Nyle sighed softly and set down the PADD. It seemed that overall all the work on Operations Systems was either finished or being closed out as he read. There certainly wasn't time for an in depth review, as he was want to do with any files that were routed through him, but he had had enough time to do a cursory overlook, as well as take a brief look at the system specs.

The computer systems he didn't even bother looking at. They were the same as the cores used in New Orleans class frigates and a New Orleans class frigate was the first Starship he ever served on. Granted, that was a long time ago, and he was a Tactical Officer then...

I shall have to give computer technical manuals a brief look. A quick refresher. Nyle thought, leaning back to stretch his arms out behind his head. That would have to come later, however, as it was getting later in the morning and Nyle still hadn't spoken with, well, Commander Zai now. Nyle could remember the announcement made, informing the ship and crew that Captain Drake was taking command again. Apparently the Coart Martial went well, then.

Nyle had heard vaguely about the Court Martial held on Starbase 118, but he hadn't cared to really delve into the specifics. He was sure that any information that mattered to him specifically would make itself known.

"Computer, where is the location of Commander Zai?" Nyle asked, standing from his chair and rising to his full 6' 2" height.

=/= Commander Zai is currently on the bridge. =/=

Excellent, Nyle mused as left the office to head towards the bridge. I can officially check in and formally relieve... What was his name, LT  Lasam? Lasat? Lasad? Las-something!

Onward Nyle marched towards the bridge, so absorbed in his thoughts that he forgot to smile to the crew members as he passed by.

Stardate 2365.02.19
USS Peregrine; Bridge - 1118

The turbolift doors slide open and Nyle stepped out onto the bridge. The first place his eyes were drawn were the Ops Station. He would undoubtedly be spending a fair amount of time stationed there. Currently, however it was manned by a Risian male. Nyle needed to remedy that, and as such, he walked across the bridge to stand next the panel.

"Lieutenant Lasad," -- After an unfortunate amount of thought, that was what Nyle believed the Lieutenants name was -- "You stand relieved."

Lasad smiled and stood. "She's all yours."

After Lasad and Nyle exchanged a brief handshake and smile -- why did the Risian look confused? -- Nyle turned his eyes to the Captains Chair. It was empty, as was the First Officer's chair.

"Do you know where Commander Zai is?" Nyle asked, turning around to speak to the departing Risian's back. "The computer told me he was on the bridge."

"You just missed him," came the reply. Not from the Risian, but from forward on the bridge. An Andorian was looking over her shoulder at him from the CONN station. "He left the bridge probably about five minutes ago."

"Ah, thank you." Nyle said, and offered her a smile. She was being helpful, after all.

Looking back at the OPS Station, Nyle thought for a moment. It didn't take him long to make his decision, however, and with a slight, decisive nod he spoke.

"Computer, who in the Ops Department is bridge qualified?"

=/= Bridge qualified Ops personnel consist of Lieutenant Candar Moriden, Petty Officer 1st Class Miahaya Amai, Petty Officer 1st Class Darasterlee Brok, and Petty Officer 2nd Class Travis Warren. =/=

"Which of those personnel are currently available to stand watch?"

=/= Petty Officer 1st Class Miahaya Amai has completed her assigned duties for the morning and is available to stand watch. =/=

Sitting down at the OPS Station, Nyle tapped the comm-badge on his chest.

"Lieutenant Nyle to Petty Officer Amai."

The response came after a brief pause, =/= Petty Officer Amai here? =/=

Nyle could understand the confusion in her voice, he had not had time to meet all the Ops personnel. In fact, other then Chief Palmer and Crewman Natasha Pierce -- who had breifly come into the Ops Office to grab some paperwork while Nyle was doing his department review -- Nyle had not met any other people from his department.

"Petty Officer Amai; report to the bridge for temporary watch relief."

=/= Aye aye, sir. =/=

With that taken care of, Nyle set to taking a much more thorough look at the OPS Panel. As he tapped through the panels different displays he felt a trickle of memory come back to him. He remembered the long hours he had spent in front of this panel. Well, not this panel, specifically, but panels very similar, if not identical.

It is going to be good to sit this station again. It is going to be good to serve on a ship again, Nyle thought. He did love his job. The technical side of it was interesting, but not the real reason he woke up each morning to start the day. That reason, the thing that he knew would keep him in Starfleet until the day he died, was the people. Good, solid, dependable people. There were some bad ones, of course, but the environment that Starfleet cultivated eventually weeded them out and left only the best remaining. And a large part of his job was keeping those people supplied and happy. Making sure that they had what they needed to make their miracles happen, and even doing his best to make sure that they recieved things that the didn't necessarily need, but wanted. Like softer pillows, -- I've never seen Crewman Daniels look happier -- or even a shipment of fresh produce and meats. Oh yes, its going to be very good to serve on a ship again.

The tell-tale sound of hydraulics brought Nyles attentions away from the panel and his thoughts and turned them towards the door. A black haired female human -- no, not human, a Betazoid judging by the iris -- of average height was walking towards him, her head tilted sleightly to the left. Upon reaching Nyle, the woman snapped stiffly to attention and gave a prescise salute.

"Petty Officer Amai reporting to relieve you, sir." she stated, still stiffly standing at attention.

"At ease, Petty Officer." Nyle replied, standing from the OPS chair and returning her salute. "We have not had the oppurtunity to formally meet yet. I am Lieutenant Nyle, I will be assuming the role of Chief Operations Officer. I will be holding a muster with all off watch department personnel later today to make formal greetings and my expections known. As for now, I need you to temporarily station yourself at OPS so that I may find and speak to Commander Zai. I have yet to formally check in. Do you have any questions, Petty Officer?"

"No, sir. You are relieved."

Relaxing, Amai exchanged places with Nyle. She quickly went rigid again as they passed, however, which was strange, because Nyle had given her his best smile.

"Computer," Nyle said as he entered the turbolift. "Where is Commander Zai?"

=/= Commander Zai is in Transporter Room 1. =/=

"Computer, what deck is Transporter Room 1 on?"

=/= Transporter Room 1 is on Deck Three. =/=

"Take me to Deck Three then."

It would probably be easier to have the computer just show me the way, Nyle mused. But that was no way to learn the layout of a ship. To learn the layout, one had to get lost every now and then.

As the turbolift moved towards him towards his destination, Nyle thoughts breifly wandered to what he was going to say to the First Officer. Probably just a formal greeting then Nyle would return to the OPS Station. He wanted to be there when the ship left Spacedock.

With an ever so slight jolt, the turbolift came to a halt and the doors slid open. Nyle stepped out, catching a quick look at the time as he exited: 1155. Nyle was cutting it close, his orders had instructed him to report no later then 1200 today. He supposed he might be cut some slack, as he was on board after all. All the same, however, that was not a first impression he wanted to make.

Striding down the hallway, the thought crossed Nyle's mind that Commander Zai might very well have left the Transporter Room. Trying to avoid missing the Commander again, Nyle decided to repeat his previous question and asked, "Computer, where is Commander Zai?"

(OOC: So, if I've got my timing correct then I figure Commander Zai and Nyle would run into each other as Commander Zai headed for the bridge and Nyle for the transporter room. That being said, I'm going to assume that Commander Zai is near enough to hear and makes himself known to Nyle.)

"Ah, Commander, sir!" Crisply, Nyle offered a salute. "Lieutenant Nyle, reporting for duty as the Chief Operations Officer."

(OOC: Assuming a formal reply and returned salute.)

"I just missed you on the bridge, sir. I have already relieved LT Lasad and reviewed all ongoing operations. As I'm sure you know, sir, all maintenance and repairs are finished pertaining to the systems that Operations Department controls." The report came in a crisp, flat voice. Probably too late, Nyle realized that he hadn't smiled. His deadpan face was not going to give the first impression he wanted; he was excited to be here, after all. As quick as that realization had dawned on him, Nyle forced his face into the postion that he had been practicing all day. "It's a pleasure to be aboard, sir."

(OOC: Assuming some sort of affirmative response to Nyles report.)

"Respectfully, sir," Nyle replied, letting his smile drop off his face. "I came to find you to report in. If I may, I would like to return to the Bridge. I would like to be at the OPS panel for our departure."

Hey, so I've been pondering a question pertaining to the duties of the Operations department. Some of the duties confuse me a bit, mainly that of supply, requisition, and food services. As I understood it, all that would just be done using a replicator and there wouldn't be a need for Catering Specialist or any sort of requistions.

I imagine I'm missing something here, anyone able to help me out and clarify for me?

Chief Operations Officer Nyle, respectfully requesting to come aboard!

I'm excited! I cannot, however, figure out how to add LT Nyle to the roster. How would I go about doing that?

I'm fine playing Ops here too if that is what is preferred.

I'll try to get a character put together by the end of the week, however I'm moving tomorrow so time is going to be a little tight for the rest of this week.

Alright, this thread didn't get a lot of attention, but that's fine. I believe we have 4 players, possibly 5. I'll know for sure by the end of the week.

As I understand, the players that will be participating are:

Bromern Sal

Eol Fefalas

Breebles

Nomad D2

There is still room for more if anyone else wants. I've created a Q&A page with some applicable information and class and background options if everyone would like to check that out!

Topic: Lights Last Embrace - A Wheel of Time Q&A
Subject: Lights Last Embrace - A Wheel of Time Game

Welcome one and all and may the light shine upon all of you! This will be our general Q&A thread for the Wheel of Time game. In this particular post I hope to tell you all a little about the world and list off some of the classes and nationalities that you can play. Everyone is welcome to create their own character, or tell me what they wanted to play and I'll create the actual character. The rules are based off of the D&D Version 3, so those of you familiar with that should not have a difficult time picking up the rules.  Alright, lets get started!

THE WHEEL OF TIME RULEBOOK

The World of the Wheel of Time:

Magic: I think it would be best to start out by discussing how magic is done in the WoT. It is unlike any other system or story I've ever read or seen. In fact, it isn't even called magic in world, it is called Channeling the One Power (or True Source). There are two different sides to the One Power, saidar and saidin. Only men are able to touch saidin and women saidar. Saidin and saidar are vastly different from each other, both in the way its controlled and how it is used. Because of this, women cannot teach men how to channel saidin, and men cannot teach women how to channel saidar. For example, when a woman that is able to channel the One Power wants to channel, she is said to embrace saidar. In order for a woman to get saidar to do what she wants, she has to completely surrender to it and gently guide it. Men, on the other hand, have to seize saidin. They have to wrestle with it and force it to do what they want. Often, in the books, it is compared to fighting for your life, and if you make one mistake, relax for one moment, then saidin will consume you. Both saidin and saidar are broken up into five different threads, that of Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, and Spirit. In order to do things with the One Power, channelers must "weave" these different threads of the power into a "weave". Such as weaving a fireball, the channeler must use threads of both Fire and Air and weave them in a specific way. How a man weaves a fireball will differ from how a women weaves a fireball, but both of them will use threads of Fire and Air.

Channeling isn't something that everyone can learn. Of those that can learn, a very few have "the spark born in them" which means whether or not they are taught, they will Channel. If those with "the spark" are not taught, often times the One Power (or colloquially, the Power) will destroy them as they are not able to control it. A few of those with "the spark" may learn to control their abilities without being taught, and they are called Wilders. Wilders usually have a block which is something that they've created in their mind that only allows them to channel under specific circumstances, often because they do not realize that they are channeling. For instance, one character in the book, Nynaeve al'Meara, was a wilder, and she could not channel unless she was angry.

Long ago, during the Age of Legends, in order to end of the War of Power, and Aes Sedai ("Servant of All" in the old tongue) by the name of Lews Therin Thelamon (also known as Kinslayer or The Dragon) led the 100 companions to Shayol Ghul to seal the holes bored in the Dark Ones prison. Unfortunately, he was unable to convince any women Aes Sedai to come with him, and as such the Dark One was able to get in the final word. The Dark One tainted saidin, the male half of the True Source, causing all male Aes Sedai to go mad with the One Power, effectively Breaking the World, and bringing the Age of Legends to a close. The Taint is still present in the Third Age (the Age we will be playing in) and as such, male channelers are hunted down and "gentled", which means they are cut off from the One Power (This often results in the channeler losing the will to live and eventually either taking his own life, or wasting away. The female equivilant is called being Stilled.) It varies how long a man can channel before going mad, sometimes within a year, sometimes it takes 10. If a channler overextends themselves, then they are in danger of Burning Out. They essentially scorch the ability to channel from themselves and find themselves in a situation not unlike being gentled or stilled.

The most well known, and often believed to be the only, institute where channeling is taught is the White Tower in Tar Valon. There reside the descendants of the Aes Sedai from the Age of Legends, now an exclusively female group. I will discuss Aes Sedai more in another section.

Channelers often live a much longer time then normal folk, some even past 400 years old. They're aging begins to slow, so a channeler of 90 years old may only look to be in their late twenties.

There are items that use the one power, called either angreal, sa'angreal, or ter'angreal. Angreal increase the strength of a channeler by a huge extent, and sa'angreal even more so. Ter'angreal are items that use the one power to do specific things (i.e. one ter'angreal allows someone holding it to enter Tel'aran'rhoid (the World of Dreams) when they go to sleep, whether they can channel or not.)

Aes Sedai: As mentioned before, today's Aes Sedai are descendants of the Aes Sedai from the Age of Legends. Now a female only group, Aes Sedai refer to each other as "Sisters" and are notorious for their political maneuverings and power. Marked by their seemingly ageless face and "Aes Sedai tranquility," many people find themselves on one side or another when it comes to Aes Sedai. Either one trusts them, believes that they know best and will do as they are told, or they deeply distrust Aes Sedai, and look try to look at even the simplest statement from 20 different sides to find how they are being tricked. No matter which side a commoner falls on, however, there is always a healthy amount of caution or even fear. It is most definitely unwise to anger an Aes Sedai.

To become an Aes Sedai, a hopeful women (usually between the ages of 16 to 1 would need to travel to the tower and first be excepted as a Novice. After she has proven herself to be adequately knowledgable and strong enough in the One Power, she takes a test to become an Accepted and is given a golden Great Serpant ring which is required to be worn on the third finger of her left hand. After she has progressed far enough in her studies and the Aes Sedai believe she is ready, she takes another test and becomes a full Aes Sedai. Once she passes this test she takes the Three Oaths on the a ter'angreal called the Oath Rod which prevents her from ever being able to break those oaths. The Three Oaths are "To speak no word that is untrue, to make no weapon with which one man may kill another, and to never use the One Power as a weapon except against Darkfriends or Shadowspawn, or in the last extreme defense of her life, the life of her Warder, or another Aes Sedai."

After taking the Three Oaths, she is then "raised to the shawl" and is allowed to wear the Great Serpant ring on whichever finger she so chooses. The now Aes Sedai then gets to apply to join one of the seven Ajahs. An Ajah is essentially a sect of the White Tower, each with its own distinct purpose. There are the Blue, Green, Yellow, Gray, Red, White, and Brown Ajahs, as well as the unofficial Black Ajah.

The Blue Ajah concerns itself with the worlds problems, sending Sisters out into the world to help specific causes.

The Green Ajah is otherwise known as the Battle Ajah. The only Ajah that allows the Sisters to have more than one Warder, they stand ready to face the Dreadlords during Tarmon Gai'don (the Last Battle, during which the Dragon Reborn will die to seal away the Dark One, or the Dark One will break free and destroy the world.) During the Trolloc Wars, there wasn't an army marching that didn't have a Sister from the Green Ajah with them.

The Yellow Ajah concern themselves with healing sicknesses of the body and mind.

The Gray Ajah are negotiators. They work to broker treaties and deals to prevent wars before they happen.

The Red Ajah are have one singular purpose, which is to track down men that can channel and gentle them. Red Sisters do not take Warders and are often disdainful of men.

The White Ajah focuses purely on the pursuit of logic, philosophy, and reason. They often tend towards emotionless viewpoints and decisions based solely off of what is logical.

The Brown Ajah are concerned with the gathering and preservation of knowledge. Often times they are so wrapped up in their thoughts or research that they don't notice the going ons of the world around them.

The Black Ajah is an Ajah full exclusively of Darkfriends (People sworn to serve the Dark One.) The quickest way to get on the bad side of an Aes Sedai is to even suggest that the Black Ajah exists, as many Aes Sedai claim that it does not.

Aes Sedai of most Ajahs may bond a Warder. A Warder is a man that is tied to a sister through the One Power. The Aes Sedai and her Warder always know where each other are, as well as feel any strong emotions or pains that the other experiences. This is effected by distance however, and the further away they get the more vague the feelings become. Warders often gain increased endurance and resistance to pain through this bond. When an Aes Sedai dies, her bonded Warder often lose their will to live, and get themselves killed trying to avenger her.  When an Aes Sedai's Warder dies, the Aes Sedai is wracked with incredible grief for months afterwards.

The Aes Sedai and the White Tower are led by the Amrylin Seat and the Hall of the Sitters, both of whom are constantly locked in a battle to determine who will actually lead the White Tower.

Asha'man: Asha'man are the male equivalent of Aes Sedai. Founded by the Dragon Reborn, Rand al'Thor, and led by the M'hael, Mazrim Taim, the Asha'man enter the Black tower as Soldiers. They undergo extreme and brutal training, and casualties are not unheard of. After advancing far enough, the Soldiers are given a silver sword pin to wear on their collar and they are given the rank of Dedicated. After further training, they will get a golden dragon pin to wear on the other side of the collar and they are full Asha'man. Training at the Black Tower is much more militaristic then the White Tower, and madness is always on the horizon. When someone at the Black Tower goes mad, something is slipped into their drink and they peacefully drift away to death. Many Asha'man consider this a kindness.

General Culture: So, Wheel of Time's whole deal is that Time is cyclical. An age will come, pass, be forgotten, then come again. It is this constant battle between the Dark One and the Light. It is this unbroken pattern woven by the wheel of time, indeed, it is not uncommon to hear someone say "The Wheel weaves as the Wheel weaves." A saying meaning that whatever will come will come, no matter what anyone does.

This great weaving is called the Age Lace, or the Pattern of the Age, and each person alive is a thread being woven into the Pattern. Some very rare people, called Ta'veren, are spun out and used by the Wheel to redirect the pattern back to where the Wheel needs it to be. Ta'veren change the probability of something happening, (i.e. they can cause a person to fall off a house and then get up without a scratch on them, yet someone else can easily trip over a stick and break their neck. Ta'veren don't make the impossible happen, they just make the improbable much more likely.)

It is said that the Dark One resides outside of the Wheel, and if he gets his way he will destroy it and remake it in his own image. Although talk of the Dark One is considered bad luck, and mentioning his name, Shaitan, will turn his attention onto you. The Dark One and the Forsaken are said to be bound in his prison at Shayol Ghul, although (unbeknownst to the common folk) the Seals to the Dark Ones prison are weakening and the Forsaken have escaped.

There are many prophecies in the Wheel of Time, but the most important one is the Prophecies of the Dragon (or the Karaethon Cycle.) It is said that Lews Therin Thelamon, the Dragon, will be reborn and fight Tarmon Gai'don, bringing about a new breaking of the world, and sealing away the Dark One. There are many different omens to indicate that the Dragon has been Reborn, but the most blatant one, the one that would cause most people to acknowledge that the Dragon Reborn had arrived, would be the Stone of Tear falling and the Dragon Reborn will wield Callandor.

Shayol Ghul is the point where the Dark Ones prison meets our world in the pattern, although many just think that it is actually where the Dark One actually resides. It is in the Blight, which is a place where the nature has gone... wrong. Or sick. Even more dangerous than the Aiel Waste, it is where the Darkspawn reside and other nasty creatures (from bloodthirsty trees, to giant, practically impossible to kill, worms) are rampant. Slowly each year the Blight creeps slowly downward.

There are many other more specific details depending on what nation you are talking about, I'll try to briefly cover those when I get to the different nationalities you can be.

World History: Long, long ago, there was the Age of Legends. During this age, the One Power was used to do amazing and wonderous things and both men and women Aes Sedai where the most respected of individuals. In fact, things were so good for so long that the Dark One was forgotten to have exsisted. However, in the arrogance of the Age, a bore was drilled into the Dark Ones prison and he was allowed to touch the world. This began the War of Power, some Aes Sedai turned to the Dark One, 13 of the most powerful becoming known as the Forsaken. The War of Power saw the creation of Trollocs (half animal, half human abominations. They are the most common of the Darkspawn) and Myrddraal (Frighting creatures, they resemble pale men with no eyes or eye sockets. They tended to be the Captains of Darkspawn armies) and other unholy abominations before Lews Therin Thelamon, The Dragon, The Lord of the Morning, led the 100 Companions to Shayol Ghul where they caught the Forsaken and sealed them away in the Dark Ones prison, leaving 7 seals made of Cuendillar (an unbreakable, powerwrought material) as the focal points of the Power used to seal them. However, as mentioned above, the Dark One was able to taint saidin, causing all the male Aes Sedai to lose their minds and destroy the world. This time was known as the Breaking of the World. Indeed, the breaking was so powerful that the very landscape of the world was changed. New continents were raised from the ocean, and entire pieces of land were swallowed up in return. People were scattered and for a long time the world was dark, dangerous and chaotic. Eventually 10 Nations arose from the ruins of the world and civilization seemed to begin again. However, this tragically ended when Darkspawn armies invaded, leading to the beginning of the Trolloc Wars. Eventually, the Trollocs where repelled and 29 new nations arose from the ashes of the original 10. After some more warring, the 29 nations eventually became united under Artur "Hawkwing" Paendrag, creating a united empire. Hawkwing then sent armies across the Aryth Ocean to colonize, while laying seige to Tar Valon. Artur Paendrag dies, however, apparently only able to be saved by Aes Sedai of who he despises. The following  100 years sees only war, as one person or another tries to take control of the empire. The end result was many of the nations we have today. Most recently, the greatest conflict seen was about 20 years ago when the Aiel came over the Spine of the World to kill King Laman Damodred of Cairhien for cutting down the Chora Tree to make a throne. Many nations joined forces to repel the Aiel, but the Aiel chased King Damodred to Tar Valon before finally killing him and then leaving.

The Forsaken: Half history, half legend, the Forsaken are often used by as a threat by mothers to get misbehaving children to behave. There are thirteen of them: Ishmael, Rahvin, Demandred, Sammael, Aginor, Balthamel, Asmodean, and Be'lal where the male ones, and Lanfear, Greandal, Moghedien, Semiraghe, and Mesaana were the female. They committed great atrocities during the war of power before Lews Therin was able to seal them away.

Okay, so I know that was a lot. Feel free to read at your pleasure, or not and just experience the game. If you have any questions feel free to post them here! Now we are going to cover some of the different classes and backgrounds you can have for your characters. In the interest of not making this post more ridiculously long than it already is, I will be very brief with the nationality descriptions and then I can go more in depth with the ones that are selected if desired.

Classes and Nationalities

Nationalities:

So each nationality, or background, gets a choice out of a list of background feats and background skills. I'm going to include a link to the rule book I have so that you all can take a close look if you want. All of these backgrounds (with the exception of Ogier) are human.

Aiel: A tough and violent people, they reside in the barren and harsh Aiel Waste. They are tall, with typically red or blond hair, and blue or gray eyes. Every Aiel knows how to fight if needs be, but most of the fighting is either done by the Algai'd'siswai or Far Dareis Mai (The Maidens of the Spear.) Blacksmiths and Wise Ones will not participate in combat, and you will never see Aiel holding a sword. They fight with shortbows or short spears typically. Their entire culture is governed by  Ji'e'Toh, which is a incredibly complicated system of honor and obligation. Before the Aiel kill, they veil their faces.

Atha'an Miere (Sea Folk): Dark skinned and tattooed, these people live for the sea. Their entire lives revolve around the sea, in that they are born on a ship (in fact, if a pregnant women is shore bound, she will specifically go out to sea to give birth), they live most their lives aboard ships, and, when they die, they are given to the sea. They refer to their ships as "him" or "he" and are incredibly rigid in their social status and order, and even more rigid and unforgiving in negotiating trade.

Borderlander: Borderlanders actually refer to four seperate nations -- Saldea, Kandor, Arafel, and Shienar -- who border the blight. Each country has slightly different culture, but all have a militaristic mindset and deeply seated senses of duty and honor. They are the defenders against the Blight and rarely does a week go by without Trolloc raids or attacks in their lands.

Cairhienen: These people tend to be smaller in stature, with pale complexions. They are a reserved and subtle people, but great players of Daes Dae'mar (the Game of Houses) which is full of political maneuverings, assassinations, and that sort of thing. They were originally the only nation to be allowed passage through the Aiel Waste, however, that ended with Laman's Sin and the Aiel War. Although, it is said that Cairhienen festivals can be surprising wild and uncouth.

Domani: These people hail from Arad Doman, a land well known for their women and hedonistic ways. Domani women have a reputation of being some of the most beautiful, intoxication women alive. Indeed, mothers teach daughters the way of seduction almost from the day they are old enough understand it. Domani men also have this reputation, but to a much lesser extent. Indeed, Domani men are known more for their temper then anything else.

Ebou Dari: Hailing from the land of Ebou Dar, the people are generally polite, and rather easygoing... if you are able to keep track of their elaborate code of etiquette. Once you cross a line, however, you are very likely going to find yourself in a duel. Upon marriage, the man presents a marriage knife to his wife, asking her to kill him with it if he ever displeases her. While it is not likely for her to actually kill him, it is not unthinkable for her to give him a cut or two with that marriage knife that usually hangs around her neck.

Illianer: The people of Illian prosper mainly due to the booming sea trade they are able to provide. They have a strong hatred for Tairens due to many wars that have been fought and the general competition for sea trade that the Tairens provide. It is in style for Illianers to wear a thick beard with no moustache, and they have a very distinct accent.

Midlanders: These people hail from the nations and cities in the center of the Westlands. Nations and cities such as Andor, Far Madding, Murandy, Ghealdan, and the towns along the Caralain Grass and river Manetherendrylle, such as the Two Rivers and Baerlon. Midlanders are your salt of the earth type people. The ones that work hard and could teach mules how to be stubborn. They have indominable spirits and will always pick themselves up and get back to work after hard times hit.

Seanchan: The Seanchan are unlike any other nation in the Westlands. Indeed, although their origin dates all the way back to the armies that Artur Hawkwing sent across the ocean, these people's culture is starkly different. They see channeling as a wild and dangerous thing, and as such they catch any woman who can channel and force her to wear a ter'angreal called an a'dam. This allows some women, known as Sul'dam to control how the wearer acts. The woman forced to wear the a'dam is called the damane, and she is treated like property. Like a pet, and many damane that have been born and raised Seanchan act like one. The Nobility of the Seanchan is called the Blood, and they are said to have descended from Artur Hawkwing's son, Luthair Paendrag. The Seanchan has travelled back from across the Aryth Ocean to reclaim the lands they believe to be stolen from Artur Hawkwing's empire.

Tairen: The people of Tear like a clear distiction in the classes. Nobles and Commoners do not mix, and the Nobles certainly get their way. The style for nobles is to where a pointed goatee and sleak moustache. Tairen law forbids channeling, although it isn't a crime to be able to channel like it is in Amadicia, and Aes Sedai are generally mistrusted. In Tear itself lies the Stone of Tear, a fortess of untold magnitude, you would be forgiven for mistaking it for a small mountain. Said to have been built using the one power near the end of the Breaking of the World, it has never fallen, although the Prophecies of the Dragon say that when the Dragon Reborn comes, it will fall.

Tar Valoner: Much like the Midlanders, the people of Tar Valon are hardworking, adaptable, and dependable. However, unlike the Midlanders, Tar Valon people tend to have much more diversity and world knowledge. The White Tower itself lays at the center of Tar Valon, and those within the city see the tower as the protector and diplomatic might that it is and trust Aes Sedai almost explicitly.

Taraboner: Taraboners are known mostly for the fact that they find it rude to show their face in public except for eating and drinking. Because of this, they tend to wear veils. They have a great pride in their heritage, flouting the fact that their rulers can trace their ancestory back to the Age of Legends. Although, not to the extent of Arad Doman, they do tend to have a tendency towards lifes pleasures. Indeed, much of their entertainment takes place inside large stadiums where anything from a non-lethal gladiator match to an Illuminators display can be shown.

Ogier: These non-human creatures live for many, many years, not even considered an adult until they are 100 years old. Although they are renowned stonemasons, what Ogier really care for are the trees. Ogier reside in Steddings, places where Shadowspawn cannot enter, no one is able to channel, and violence is forbidden. In fact, if an Ogier stays away from a Stedding for too long, they begin to feel a Longing. If the Ogier ignores this Longing and does not visit a Stedding, it will kill them. Due to their long lives, Ogier consider humans to be very hasty. They themselves are very patient, caring, and calm, although an enraged Ogier is an enemy you'd best not underestimate. Ogier have the same bodily proportions as a human, although they are 8 to 10 feet tall, have long ears with little tufts of hair at the end that will twitch with their mood, bushy drooping eyebrows, and broad flat noses.

Alright, that was the different backgrounds you can have. If you want a little more in depth information about them feel free to ask me!

Classes:

Algai'd'siswai: These Aiel warriors come from the Aiel Waste, or the Three Fold Land as they call it. They wear no armor and refuse to touch swords, instead using short spears, knifes, and short bows to get the job done. Females in this class would be referred to as Far Dareis Mai, or a Maiden of the Spear. The Algai'd'siswai differs from an Armsmen in that it focuses more on speed, agility, and skill to get the job done then strength and armor.

Armsmen: This class is your typical fighter type deal. Whether he be a Whitecloak, or just a city guardsman, he would fall under this class.

Initiates: This class would entail those that wish to become Aes Sedai or Asha'man. Channelers that focus on their intelligence and training to defend themselves and others. Keep in mind, however, that if you wish to play a male channeler, then you will be dealing with the possibilty of going mad.

Noble: A noble will fill the role that a bard would typically have. Focusing on intelligence and charisma, while a Armsmen may charge in, the noble might be the one to talk his way out.

Wanderer: A mixed bag of people, the wanderer typically encompasses one who focuses on a nimble mind and nimble fingers to make his way in the world. Although it doesn't appear to be a direct correlation, this class seems most like the rogue equivilant.

Wilder: A wilder is someone who learned to channel by themselves. Not subjected to the rules or rigors of an official training regime, the wilder learned from experience, trial, and error. Without the training to fall back on, Wilders know less weaves then Initiates, but they have a easier time overchanneling.

Woodsman: Capable in combat and proficient with a variety of weapons, woodsmen tend to be protectorates. Helping those transit in their terrain, a woodsman knows how to survive off of the land, find his prey, and avoid being seen. Woodsmen don't necessarily need to be experts of the woods, any terrain that works with character history could do just as well.

Alright, that was a lot. Below I've included a map of the world. Let me know if you would like to create your own character, or just give me the character details and have me create it. I look forward to starting the game, guys!

"...and like the singer here said, keep your eye out for on-site security. Let’s go in and move quickly but quietly. Remember we still have another team on our heels and a kid who could be about to die somewhere."

Bloodbank nodded to himself silently. The thought of onsite security worried him slightly; more the result of any confrontation that might occur than the actual danger. They were trying to do a good thing here and it would be... tragic if their presence caused any undue harm. Probably best to just be as quiet as possible and avoid that incident.

In an attempt to put that thought into action, the MedTech crept forward, following Echo through the window into the office building. He tried his best to avoid the tangle of wires that Fixer had fashioned out of the window's alarm sensor. Bloodbank just wasn't sure how much jostling the wires could take before they decided that they wanted to alarm after all.

The inside of the Upstairs Downstairs office building was practically silent. All that Bloodbank could hear as he entered was the soft pat of rainwater dripping off of him and his companions onto the carpeted floor; indeed, even the sound of the rain and city outside seemed to drop off as he went further inside. It was almost as if the dim overhead lighting of the office building formed some sort of shield to the outside bustle and noise of the city. In fact, the quiet added to the dim lights gave the whole area a feeling of solemnity, a heavy solemnity that pressed down upon Bloodbank as if it wished to suffocate him.

Vegas and Echo crept forward, each with their respective weapons in hand. Bloodbank grimaced slightly behind his battlemask. His pistol was going to remain in its holster at his hip, no matter the circumstance. Removing the weapon, having it in his hands, might result in a situation where Bloodbank would feel obligated to use it. That was something that he absolutely refused to do, he would not shoot at someone whose only crime against Bloodbank was that of trying to prevent him from further committing a crime himself. He was here to ensure that those with him made it out alive, not to make sure that others didn't.

Bloodbank stopped short of the first door set into an alcove on the right and watched as Vegas quickly moved across it to position himself on the opposite side, peering around the corner to look into the glass panels in the door. With Echo positioned on the other side of the alcove it looked almost as if they were ready to storm a fortress. Indeed, the MedTech felt as though he was looking not at two people but two jungle cats, ready to pounce.

Leaving the two of them to peer through the door, Bloodbank looked further down the hallway. Looking for any signs or other security equipment. If they were lucky, HR would be clearly marked and they could just sneak in, get the info, and then sneak out in little to no time. Bloodbank didn't think that they were going to be that lucky, but he could only hope.

So, at least one? Eol were you also wanting to play or just commenting on the idea of it?

I'll send a couple of invites to see if anyone else is interested. I was thinking 3 to 6 players or so if there was enough interest. Maybe more if there was enough.

I hope this works out, I think it would be a lot of fun!

May you all walk in the light!

Anyone would be welcome, knowledge of the series and the world isn't required. Although, for those that haven't ever read it, I would strongly recommend giving it a go!

From what I understand, the rules are based off of 3rd edition DnD, so it shouldn't be too hard to play either.
