Subject: Revelations

As Alôndas continued to examine things in the room he spoke aloud, more to the room than to anyone directly, as if trying to figure out something that was trying to come to him.

“This place is brought about by Strong Magic,” he said glancing at the black portal, “very powerful magic. There aren’t many mages who could have done something like this here.”

“You know,” he said suddenly stopping as if something just hit him, “when I was at the academy, there was a story of a great Mage named Putnam who was a very powerful wizard and necromancer. He was obsessed with Amer’loc, the Witch Queen of Sendria, and he tried to challenge her but he was defeated. He escaped and the rumors were that he went into hiding far away from civilization. No one has heard from him sense that great duel.”

“I’ll bet,” he said turning back to the group, “this could be his place. Amer’loc ruled Sendria from an Island so it only makes sense that Putnam would have an affinity for Islands as well; his own island empire, per say.”

“This must be the Isle of Putnam,” he said, a faint tone of awe in his voice, “this could be wonderful, or … we could all die horribly from the traps and great magic which no doubt protect this place.”

He gave a lopsided grin and then turned back to examining the room again, but now he was trying to find any evidence that his assumptions were correct.

“I think before we go through any doors or portals we should eat. There be no telling what we will find behind them. So if there is danger let us not let hunger defeat us.”

Hearing talk of eating, he walked over to the table and grabbed a couple slices of the hard cheese and tore off a hunk of bread and continued his observations as he nibbled.

Alôndas sighed, a bit disappointed that the portal didn't take him someplace; he assumed that one needed to insert a bit more of one's body before the portal would pull you in to complete the transference.

Hearing a sound he turned and saw that Wembley opening the cabinet. Walking over the mage looked into the cabinet and examined the bottles.

“You should be careful,” he told the Cidal, “this place has some powerful magic and these potions just might be a bit more powerful than you might think. They could have extreme consequences if consumed.”

Turning away he started to walk away then turned back (A Columbo moment), “Then again, they just might be very beneficial.” He grinned slightly and then continued to examine the rest of the room looking for anything 'unusual'.”

Hey nobody said anything about dying! I mean what kind of adventure is this?

Looking forward to the lengthy update; I just finished reading a novel and need something else to read.

What year is the ROC adventure? I am working on my character and need to know for his age purposes.

Also, I copied a character sheet of a tech guy in your character and an adapting that; can I assume starting equipment within reason? I was thinking of using the equipment listed on that Tech guy's sheet with a few modifications, with your permission of course.

Please send me your character generation guidelines for this Rocinante game and I will start working on ideas for my character. Probably a Pilot/Tech type guy.

Consider that position filled for now. I will work up a character and you can let me know when the game is ready for him.

I would definitely be interested in that position. I hope the crew survive as I have been reading that one from time to time and it doesnt look good.

Would you need just a Straight pilot or something of a mixed character? Pilot/Gunslinger, Pilot/Engineer, etc.

Subject: Throwing caution to the wind

While others were intent on feeding themselves and picking locks on wine cabinets, Alôndas was excited about the magic that this place exhibited. He walked around studying everything closely, he even studied the little cleaning machine after it had cleaned and dried his robe.

“Fascinating!” He replied again.

He closely examined the magical black portal; he was sure that it went someplace else and was curious to see where it went. He doubted he could talk the others into going through this one. They would no doubt wish to try the more mundane passage of the normal looking door.

“I think,” he said as he looked over at the rest as he stood before the black portal, “we should go this way. The normal door is the obvious choice and therefore most likely the more dangerous one.”

Alôndas turned back to studying the portal and slowly reached out a finger and gently touched the black surface.

(OOC: Hey Cidal's arent the only impulsive ones. )

I am afraid I am not good at understanding the opposite sex, I mean really who is?

Last time I tried it everyone said the woman was a little too mannish. I mean what do you expect, I am a man!

I have read some of the adventures with her and think it would be best is a woman played the character. I dont think I could do Tess any justice.

But if something else opens up, pilot or otherwise, let me know.

Nothing personal there Tohmas, just as a young boy like Amur sees things. Perhaps Tohmas could educate him, though I doubt it!

Amur stayed low to avoid the arrows but when he felt the ship pulling away and heard a might crashing sound he popped his head up and saw the beaded Dragon attacking the enemy ship.

“YEEAAHH!”, he cried out as he leaped to his feet and pumped a fist in the air. He stood there smiling as he watched their ship pull further away from the enemy as the enraged dragon tore into The Stomper.

As they ship drew away from the battle Tohmas softly addressed the mage. “My friend….. the use of fire in battle is taboo to my training as a Shaman. Its effect can often do more damage then was intended. You must know that I am sworn to attack any enemy that should bring flame to battle….. The burning of a section of the land for any reason cannot be done even by a friend….. You must use great caution with that device for its misuse will turn Altar’s favor away from us.” Looking down slightly on the Elven Illusionist Tohmas smiled grimly, “I will pray to Atira for guidance”.

"Hey lighten up” Amur turned to Tohmas, “he just helped save our lives. You should be a little more appreciative.” The boy shook his head as he walked by Tohmas and clapped Areldor on the shoulder.

“Great Job!”

Subject: A resting place?

Alôndas took up a position midway of the group as they made their way down the stairs towards the doorway. Holding his staff in his left hand he stood ready to cast a spell if needed. When Mel walked up to the strange doorway, the Sylvari mage was about to ask if perhaps Wembley should check the doors for traps when the warrior reached out and touched the door.

He blinked at the sudden change in location; they had been transported, all of them, beyond the door. At least they thought it was beyond the door, it could be anywhere really. The mage studied the room and thought the designer of the room's decor needed some help. But before he could finish his investigation, Dudley stepped forward and the strange rolling item zapped him with some kind of light. Before any of them could react, the Cleric as suddenly Dry and clean.

“Fascinating,” Alôndas said appraisingly, “some kind of magical cleaning device.” His tone said that he found the magic behind this device to be astounding.

Taking a step forward as Wembley ran up and cried out to be next, he moved slowly around the room studying everything closely but touching nothing.

Subject: Leader

I just want to point out that my character is Lawful Neutral, so the appointing of a leader is important to him. Except maybe for the Excitable Cidal.

Subject: Leadership

"I'll lead this party! Oh! Oh! Pick me, Alan! Pick me! I can do it!" The excitable Wembley volunteered happily.

Alôndas almost smiled at the thought of Wembley being the leader, but then he realized that he was referring to him when he said Alan.

“Wait, what? No, my name is Alôndas,” he said putting a strange ‘closed’ sounding accent on the ‘o’ which is common on Sylvari from the Northern Kingdom, “and I think it best if someone a little…. taller be leader. They’re better able to see over everyone and see the entire picture. You see?”

Speaking up for the first time to the others, Mal leans on the wall before the door and says, "It hardly matters, so long as we all be knowin' we'll need each other to survive... assumin' that is even an option at this point. If'n we keep a warrior at each end o' the group, and ya magical beings in the center, we should be fine."

"I be willin' to take point, if'n you be willin' to guard the rear, Syl" He says to Crow, nodding to the bow. "You bein' the best armed to help any position, 'specially bein' most o' the others are short enough to shoot over."

“While I agree that, until we know the situation here, it would be best for us to work together,” he addressed the group, “but order is important and if we get into any situations, it is always good to have someone to make the tough decision.”

“Since you seem to have an understanding of tactics,” he said to Malrinn, “and you appear to like to give orders, perhaps you would to volunteer to lead us.”

“Plus, you do seem to be tall enough for the job,” he added with a faint smile as his eyes flickered to Wembley.

Alôndas Lantalhûn, Sylvari Mage staggered ashore leaning heavily on his staff to keep him upright.  He tumbled to the dry sand and coughed mightily for over a minute as he got the last of the salt water from his body.  His stomach churned but he managed to concentrate and keep from losing the last meal he had aboard ship.  He rolled over onto his back and looked up at the sky; grateful for what little warmth the sun gives him.   A cool breath makes him shiver as he rises slowly to a sitting position.  He looks down at his sodden robes, once a grand blue with intricate gold thread filigree, now filthy, torn and hanging limply on him clinging to his thin frame.

Looking about he sees others moving around on the beach; it looks like there were some other survivors.  He suddenly began to search his body frantically and look about him on the sand and then groaned aloud.  All his belongings were gone; his pack, his spellbook!  Other than the wet robes he had only his trusty staff.  It wasn’t just a plain staff, but an intricately carved staff 6’ long piece of slim Sylvari Ironwood; nearly as strong as metal.  It had no magical properties, but it was kind of a family heirloom.  His father, and his father before him, had carried this staff when they were young mages and it had been handed down to him.  He doesn’t know how he managed, but he held on to it throughout the storm and was still holding on to it tightly when he washed up here.

Where was here?  Rising slowly to his feet with the help of his staff he took a look around. Nothing but a spit of land; a tiny island it seemed. Taking a last look around his area for anything else that might have washed ashore. Not seeing anything else of value he started off down the shore to where he saw other survivors gathered.

As he got closer he saw they were other adventurers from the ship. He didn’t see any of the sailors or crew from the ship; looked like only 6 of them had made it.

“Well,” he said as he limped closer, “I am glad to see that we at least made it.”

After they had all gathered, Alôndas inquired of what supplies they had found. It seemed like only a small backpack of food a skin of wine to drink, and very few weapons. Looking around the isle they didn't find anything else of use; but just before nightfall they did find a strange depression with a stone door. The night was growing cold and after a brief discussion they opened the door and saw a stairwell. At the bottom of the stairs was another door but one made of some strange material.

“Well now,” the mage said with a smile, “shall we see what lies beneath? Perhaps we can find out what happened to the other people that appear to have been shipwrecked here before us.” Referring to the obvious signs of other ship and boat wreckage that was scattered about the island.

"One other thing," he added before there was an answer, "who is leader here?"

(OOC: I am kind of assuming that we know each other from the ship and got acquainted on the journey but maybe not all of us have adventured together. Therefore, he has to know who is leader of this group.)

Subject: Amur is back, baby!

While Amur was glad to away from the beaked dragon, he wasn't too glad to be back aboard the ship with word of another ship closing on them quickly. He clung to the railing and waited the other ship draw closer as the wind was definitely to their favor.

“They’re gaining on us!” He stated the obvious.
The boy turned to see Tohmas doing ‘something’, praying maybe, and looking out towards the approaching ship. Suddenly a huge wind struck and the other ship was in trouble. His eyes grew large as he watched the wind extinguish the visible fire arrows that were aimed their way and caused them to fall harmlessly short; and then the Toothless Dragon turned to aim its ram at the other ship.

Amur grabbed on tight to the railing and braced himself for the crash that was coming. Even so he was thrown to the deck but not seriously harmed; scrambling to his feet he saw Areldor nearby stand and point his new ‘Fire Stick’ at the other ship and speak a word. Fire leaped out and struck the other boat amidships and its mast burst into flames. He let out a whoop of triumph and cheered wildly for a moment. Then he turned to the others as he ducked down in case any archers remained able to fire.

“We might want to get out of here now while we can!” He yelled hoping the captain would make to right choice and back oars and get them away from their seriously injured opponent who would hopefully be too worried about putting out fires than storming their boats. The boy was afraid that if they stayed close the flames could leap over to their ship and then they would all be in trouble. Fire was the worst thing that could happen on a ship at sea.

(OOC: Sorry for the lame post, I will do better as I get back into the character and the game. Glad to be back! )
