Subject: Amur makes a Startling Discovery!!

As the Seekers prepared to investigate the distant sound of the Happy Water, one by one they began gathering up the weapons once brandished by the Skeleton Pirates, that now lay discarded on the rubble battlefield. They decided to pile them together, rather than carry them, choosing to retrieve them after investigating the terrain ahead, agreeing that they may be of some use to the Toothless Dragon crew.

But as they finished stacking the cutlasses in a pile and began to follow Crow and Tohmas to explore the distant terrain, Amur decided to kneel down for a closer examination of the weapons. As he randomly chose a cutlass to test its feel in his hand, he was startled to see etched inside the hand guard of each cutlass that he subsequently examined, the Maw of a Toothless Dragon!

"Seekers!" exclaimed Amur as the realization hit his consciousness like a ton of bricks, "I Know Why Those Skeleton Pirates Did Not Attack Any One Who Wore Their Eye Patches!"

As the others gathered around Amur showed them the Toothless Dragon etched into each cutlass, he gave them a few moments to let it sink in and then added.

“I hope this is not the fate we are destined for.”

He dropped the cutlass back into the pile and when the group moved out the once again turned his attention to the rubble over which they passed. His sling not returned to his belt, he left his hands free just in case anything might happen.

Crow and Tohmas determined that the sound of the water was beneath some of the rubble. The Cleric, Bartimeous, seemed to pray for a moment touching his holy symbol and stretching out his hand and chanting. Before Amur could ask what he was doing, a glow began beneath the pile of rubble.

“There if Hidden Gold Beneath This Rubble!” Bartimeous stated.

Amur started forward to examine the area for any traps, but the Gnome Bard Mylos swiftly moved a few stones aside, then reached his hand inside the small space, before letting out a scream!

Amur rushed to his side along with several other Seekers, but a joyful smile followed the Gnome’s scream, as he pulled his hand unscathed from the small space, clutching a Gold Coin between his eager fingers!

Amur punched Mylos on the shoulder but couldn’t help but smile, “It might be a good thing to check to see if there are any traps before you stick your hand in tight places next time.”

Amur bent to examine closely the place where Mylos had withdrew the gold, he was looking for traps as well as any way they could safely remove the rubble. Was there a passage here, or just some gold that had been trapped when this place had been destroyed?

Amur had started looking for anything the skeletons had dropped including the weapons and if they were good he was already gathering them. (Pg 6 last post)

He didnt partake in the Rain Dance as he wasnt wounded but instead kept watch and then once it was over he had already started to move towards the happy water. (Pg 7)

So I think I am set until the next update.

Subject: The Dance

Amur paused when he heard the Shaman Tohmaz speaking of healing the wounded first. It made sense; so the boy paused and since he was not injured, he sat down on a pile of rubble and waited. He kept an eye open for any other problems that might try to sneak up on them while the Shaman did his thing.

He found the ‘dance’ interesting and a little amazing; a dance that would heal all that took part. It seemed a miracle in a way, but he saw it had its uses and he was silently glad that someone in their group had the ability.

He watched the dance, but kept peering about for trouble every so often. Once the dance was complete he rose and when the others were ready he once again started towards the sounds of water.

Subject: The battle done!

Amur turned and looked around and saw the last skeleton pirate fall; he sighed and let the adrenaline rush fade causing him to shutter slightly. He closed his eyes for a moment and took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself. He reached up and grasped one of the dark red buttons sown onto his armor front and gave a silent thanks to Hermes for the luck which has gotten him through this battle.

Opening his eyes, he did a quick scan of his companions and saw they were all still standing, though some of them showed wounds from the recent conflict. He immediate turned to searching for and surprisingly found some of the stones he had used; with the rough strewn, crack filled terrain he was surprised to find as many as he did.

“Is everyone alright?” Elyra the Bard called out. “If so we should investigate the waters. There must be something important there to have such a guard.” After a moment’s pause she added, “And then we should think about heading back to get our wounds tended and report to the Captain.”

As he had no injures or ways of healing other, Amur bent to looking among the rubble where the skeletons had fallen for anything they may have left behind, though he knew they likely carried nothing, except their weapons, he looked away. He tried to gauge if even their weapons were suitable for taking; might they be worth the trouble of taking back to the ship.

Once he was done, he slipped the eye patch once again around his neck; he had to admit it had been a good idea to try them as the battle may have gone differently if the skeleton pirates had not been prevented from attacking those that wore them.

“Great idea about the patches,” he said as he rejoined the others as he wasn’t sure who it was that had shouted out the warning, “I think it saved us from serious harm.”

Tucking away his things once again, he looked towards the North from whence the musical sounds of water came.

“Shall we see what it was these here undead fellows were guarding perhaps?” Amur said as he started off once again in that direction, keeping his sharp eyes open for further trouble.

The battle was very nicely done; I love the fact that it didn’t take us 5 weeks to finish it. Everyone lived so that is another plus.

Now it is obvious that we will need to investigate the ‘water’ but those that are wounded need tending to first of course. So, what type of healing do we have here? We have a Cleric and a Paladin, anyone else have healing?

Subject: Actions

Amur stood atop a pile of rubble; he saw the skeletons advancing rapidly across the rubble with little difficulty. It puzzled him that they, just bags of bones, could move so normally across the rough strewn rubble. He had never seen such creatures before but they appeared to have superior dexterity to move so and not stumble over this hazardous ground.

He looked around and saw most of his companions were moving back and he started to follow but then seen that Crow was still standing there near him. He didn’t know the Ranger well, but he wouldn’t abandon him to stand there alone among the advancing skeleton pirates.

Pirates? Seemed an unusual thing. But he had never really been outside the city much since his adventurous days had begun so what did he know.

Amur heard someone behind them mention the eye patches they had been given, something about ‘Safe Passage’. He reached down with his left hand and found his still hanging about his neck where he had slipped it after trying it on. He thought maybe there was something to it so he deftly slipped the patch back into place over his left eye.

A sling bullet was loaded into his sling, he whirled it and as the skeletons came into range he let loose with the bullet targeting the closest enemy. He followed with more bullets as fast as he could, aiming at one skeleton at a time or the closest as he could. He also kept an eye on Crow, he didn’t want to lose his companion here. If Crow moved back he would follow and would continue to support him in any way he could. He also tried to stay out of reach of the skeleton pirates; he was pretty sure if he was surrounded it would be the end of him.

(OOC: Stated intentions can be found in the Q&A as instructed)

Subject: Amur's Actions

If someone shouts out a reminder about the eye patches then Amur will slip his on; he tried it on and then slipped it down around his neck so he should be able to slip it up with one hand.

As for during combat, he will try to stay out of reach of the skeletons while using his sling to attack any that get within range. He will try to stay near Crow to help support him; if the Ranger moves to join the others than Amur will stay with him. If they group up, Amur will try to stand atop a tall pile of rubble with the other members around as he continues to use this sling. Primary Targets, those coming unimpeded at him, secondary targets those attacking other members.

If you require further details, let me know.

You mention that the skeleton's speed is 30 feet per round just as the party members. Now this I assume is over unobstructed terrain? Since there is rubble everyone, no roads or paths, etc., wouldn’t their speed be slowed down considerably or face falling and causing damage to themselves?

So you dont want us to post our actions in the game thread?

As for Amur, he will stick close to where he is, using his sling and coordinate with Crow on taking out the group near them as they come in range. Will let him concentrate on the ones out of range of the sling, while Amur will pick on the ones that come closer. Staying atop the rubble, using it as cover from the skeletons trying to get to him. If any attempt to climb up after him, he will use his agility to keep out of there physical range by moving from rubble to rubble.

Subject: Let the battle begin.

"We should take one group on, I say the right. Fight them before the rest hit, but we dont' have much time!" Willem spoke up and gestured to the right of the group towards the approaching enemy.

It made sense to Amur to lessen the number of enemies that could attack you at once. He followed the others as they moved towards one of the groups of skeletons. As those more capable of close combat engaged the enemy, Amur moved nimbly to group of tall rubble nearby, from there he loaded a sling bullet into his sling and began to twirl it as he looked for a target. His first choice would be any skeletons that got by the others and tried to come after him. He hoped the rubble would slow them down if not halt their progress all together. His second choice of targets would be any of opportunity that he had a clear shot on. Hopefully his slight elevation would give him a better view and angle of attack.

So we can hear these sounds coming from all directions?

If so, we might want to move towards one of those directions to encounter one of the groups rather than wait in one spot for all of them to encircle us.

Or, if this place is ruins and rubble, we could take a defensive position atop or inside them. If we would stumble and fall moving among them so easily then surely skeletons would also have a hard time.

JMHO!

Backpost to onboard the ship

Amur couldn’t help but overhear as the Elvin Bard and the Half-elf caster rambled on atop deck, he didn’t know which was making him more ill, the obvious flirtatious banter or the rolling of the ship. Finally he shook his head and got up and moved towards the other end of the ship but he couldn’t help but give a parting shot at the two as he passed.

“I really hope there is an Inn in this city,” Amur muttered as he passed Elyra and Areldor, “so you two can get a room.”

(OOC: Sorry, I couldn’t resist! )

Devastated City
Early Morning on Saturday
Marrero 13, 101awd

Amur had, at first, looked on at the ruins of the city and was in shock at first at the utter devastation, but then realized that this was much better for them. If a city was inhabited it would be far unlikely they would find treasure just lying around for the taking.

He listened as others talked of moving on, were they serious? This was the better chance of finding something left behind. It was a huge city and yes, it did look as it had been picked over but surely everything couldn’t have been found in such a large place.

He nodded when he heard a couple state the obvious and their desire to examine the ruins; surely they could find something. To come this far and turn back was a waste in his opinion; at least some of his companions seemed to have some intelligence.

As they moved into the city, Amur fell naturally into a position which put him behind others more heavily armored. He kept his keen vision trained on the rubble as they passed; looking for anything of value or signs of hidden passages. He doubted they would find anything up here; they would have to find some means of entering the ruins and possibly any hidden catacombs that might lie under the city. People didn’t leave their valuables laying about for strangers to find; they hid them away. Some exploring into the ruin’s underbelly might be required if they were going to find anything here.

Word came back from the front that the sound of water ahead; he listened and soon he heard it also. Could be a fountain, or what remained of a fountain, possibly in a park or center square in the ruined city. They continued for awhile, seeking out the source of the sound, before they were all brought up short by a cry from the Paladin, whose name was Jaufre he thought:

"Skeleton Pirates!"

“What?” Amur asked incredulously.

Skeleton Pirates? He had never heard of such a thing; he had heard stories of skeletons that walked like men and who killed helpless folks, but Skeleton Pirates? His keen eyes scanned the area trying to spot these creatures. He listened for the others and what they were going to do? He wasn’t good at combat but he was no coward; he just knew his limitations and tried to live within them. He instinctively pulled his sling from his belt and opened one of his belt pouches and withdrew a couple of stones. He readied his sling just in case battle was inevitable, but if the others chose flight then he would not object.

(OOC: More to come as others post their intents)

City of Heristat
Docks
Dawn on Monday
Marrero 8, 101awd

"Areldor , Areldor Glanolwath nice to me you Amur." spoken with smile, from a young, clean face, gray eyed man. Areldor with staff in his left hand, extended his right hand toward the short stature elf. Then he spoke "blessing and greeting my brother." in elfish.

Amur looked at the hand and he frowned when Areldor spoke in elvish; instead of shaking his hand he reached up with a hand and adjusted his neck length red hair so that it covered the protruding point of his ears.

“Yeah, nice to meet you,” he replied in common and then turned and finished walking towards where the ship and Mad Dog Muldoon awaited.

(OOC: If there are others that introduce themselves, I will backpost to it later.)

Amur remained silent and listened as their employer introduced the group to the Captain and his crew; he did smile a little when Mad Dog lifted the First Mate up in the air which obviously embarrassed the dwarf. He nodded when his name was mentioned, though as far as anyone, including Mad Dog, knew his name was simply Amur. He didn’t know these people well enough yet to impart to them any details about himself; for someone who had been mostly on his own, he was not one to trust easily.

He looked strangely at the eye patches that everyone here wore; it seemed it was a badge of service more than a necessity. When handed one himself he smirked and then slipped it on over his left eye. He left it on only for a couple minutes, finding it blocked his peripheral vision, before he slipped it down so it hung about his neck almost like a necklace.

Boarding the ship he looked around intrigued; he was looking forward to this journey as it was into uncharted territory for him. He had been a small fishing boat once and then not far out of the docks of Eluythus.; this was going to be something much more and it excited him.

He had heard the others mention Tagea as a possible destination; he had looked over the map during the days he had waited for the ship to sail and had thought Tagea a likely starting point. He didn’t object as it was chosen as their first search site, he figured others more experienced and wiser than he could make such decisions without input from him. One place was as good as another in the search for treasure.

Day One
Toothless Dragon
Monday
Marrero 8, 101awd

Amur was enjoying the trip up the river though he found it strange that they appeared to be taking it leisurely when their mission was one of apparent urgency. But he had stored his few belongings, the bag he usually wore strapped around his body, and was now sitting on the deck near the prow enjoying the start of what was sure to be a exciting adventure.

Day Two
Toothless Dragon
Tuesday
Marrero 9, 101awd

Amur was starting to get bored, the crew didn’t seem to in any kind of hurry, the slow pace and now rain was starting to fall making him bored and now wet. He was glad when tarps were rigged out to provide a canopy to keep them dry and take the chill out of the spring air. He was hoping that tomorrow would bring a lot more progress than the last couple of days.

Day Three
Toothless Dragon
Wednesday
Marrero 10, 101awd

He was wrong, the next day the rains were worse and the weather made further progress difficult so the Captain had ordered them to hole up near shore and wait out the storms. This trip was starting to lose it’s excitement, and now the growing storms were making the boat pitch slightly which made his stomach a little queasy.

Day Four
Toothless Dragon
Thursday
Marrero 11, 101awd

This day was the worst thus far; Amur spent most of the days leaning over the rail as his stomach gave up anything he had eaten and threatened to turn itself inside out. The boat pitched violently in the storms and the boy had used some rope to lash himself to the railing feeling like he was going to die at any moment.

Day Five
Toothless Dragon
Friday
Marrero 12, 101awd

The nightmare storm faded and Amur was glad that was behind him; he began to think that a sea voyage was not to his liking. It too him all day before his heaving stomach was able to take on any food and then only a little. When Eluythus came within sight he was sorely tempted to jump ship and swim for the docks and call this mission quits, but a certain sense of honor kept him in place; he had given his word that he would complete this mission and he steeled himself that he couldn’t allow something like this to stop him.

The young boy watched in amazement as the Stout Hearts shouted at the whores on the docks who tried to entice the men much like the Sirens of legend. He shook his head, he had seen such women many times in Eluythus while on the streets. Most had not bothered him when he was younger, but not that he was older he had found some of them calling out to him now and then. He had little interest in women yet, he had started to feel excited by their attention, but usually survival had taken priority over other matters of the flesh. He knew, in time, that he would probably change his attitude towards them but for now other matters such as Gold and riches ruled his thoughts.

Open water ahead seemed daunting to him now, he only hoped they didn’t encounter any more storms; he didn’t know if his stomach could handle any more turmoil. That night, before turning in to sleep, he had sat up and watched as the First Mate Dagger had given directions through the darkness. His own keen eyes also kept watch but the Dwarf seemed to see things even before Amur’s keen sight. Their night passage was quite impressive to the lad and he went to bed that night feeling comfortable that they would reach their destination safely, most likely tomorrow.

Day Six
Toothless Dragon
Dawn
Monday
Marrero 13, 101awd

Amur was up early and again at the prow of the boat as his keen eyes watch as a shoreline begins to emerge from the early morning mists. He grabs his things and is there when the Captain summons them all together and surprisingly gives them 10 GP ea for ‘expenses’.

As the ship enters a harbor, Amur frowns at the sight that is revealed before him; the harbor is filled is now a ship’s graveyard filled with the remains of many ships; this doesn’t look good at all, he thinks. The boy admires the way the Captain and his crew handle their ship and bring them safely to beach the ship; how the First Mate and some of the crew move to set up a defensive position where they are close enough to aid the ship and yet aid the party if need be.

When given the all clear, Amur hops over the side and is glad to feel the sand beneath his feet once again. As the party moved out he took up a position more towards the rear, he wasn’t a warrior, or a mage, his skills lie in other directions and while he was pretty good at scouting it wasn’t here in the wilderness; that was the providence of a Ranger and he was glad that they had one.

When the devastated city came into sight Amur stared in amazement; something had destroyed this city and done a thorough job of it. Surely no people still lived there; more likely other denizens of the wild had moved in to take over. The city looked ripe for the plundering, if there was anything left to plunder. In a city this size there had to be something that was overlooked, some hidden treasure cache perhaps just waiting for them to find it. His heart raced at the prospect; in there, in the city was where his skills would come in handy.

(OOC: If anyone wishes to have interactions with Amur during the journey, please post them and I will gladly backpost during the week.)

Subject: Ready to depart

In the end, Amur had walked up and reached out a hand from beneath his cloak and picked up the sack of gold that was to be his retainer for this mission, he took the map that was offered as well. With that done he reached up a lone hand and withdrew his hood so that everyone could see the one that was joining them. He figured they might not know what to make of him, he didn’t want them thinking he was some mage of the like. He looked to each of his future companions and nodded his head once then turned and left the tavern.

Three days later

Amur watched from the shadows near the dock at the ship that was to be theirs, it seemed small more of a coastal raider perhaps, but it should serve their purpose. He knew little of ships, he had seen them often but this was his first time on one this size.

He thought of the last couple days while he had waited for the ship to sail; he had rented a room last night so that he could sleep once in a nice bed and had eaten a fine meal. Who knew, it might be his last for awhile. He had gone to the Temple of Hermes last night and made a Gold offering to the God of Thieves. He didn’t have much use of Gods but the sister at the orphanage had instilled in him some belief, he had chosen Hermes as it was said he looked out for thieves as well as travelers and such. It figured it couldn’t hurt to have a little backup in case things went wrong. He had stashed the rest of his money, he figured the ship would have stores and stuff for them so he didn’t think he needed any of the remaining money for now. Besides, they might come back empty handed and he would need that for later.

Amur saw others of the group coming towards the ship; he slipped from the shadows when they approached and again he nodded to them and figured introductions were in order.

“I am Amur,” he said simply, “I am your burglar it seems.”

With his hood back and his cloak open, they could all see him more clearly now. He stood a couple inches under 5', was thin and wiry, he wore simple leather armor and the only weapons that could be seen were a dagger sticking out of each boot top. The most notable feature was his shocking red hair which he wore down to just touch the nape of his neck. Though the hair covered his ears mostly, his eyes and facial structure definitely hinted at Elvin lineage.

A small figure stood towards the rear of the assembled people in the back room of the Toothless Dragon Tavern. The hood was up concealing much of their facial features, only a stray lock of Red hair protruded from the hood. The figure was short, several inches below 5 feet, and thin yet wiry. The cloak was long, covering much of the form down almost to the ankles and obscuring much so that perhaps the profession of it’s wearer was unclear. Yet no weapons were visible so it seemed unlikely the person was a warrior, as most proudly displayed their weapons and armor.

"Ye answered me notice fer stout uv heart explorators!

"No experience needed I writes!

"I see by da looks uv ye I got what I asked fer!

"Plus wit Treasures nuff ta make me a gud profit fer me troubles!

As the owner of the Tavern laid out the job to which they had all come to inquire; Amur ‘Nimblefingers’ of the Red Buttons listened intently as he looked around at the others and wondered if he could trust his life to those gathered here if he accepted the job. The young man, kid to some, was not easy to trust, but if he had to travel with others then he knew he would have to learn to trust. He had always worked alone in the past, but this was a new chapter in his life and changes were coming.

Amur had only been in Heristat a few days when he heard of the summons for adventurers; though he had lived on the streets of Eluythus most of his life, this was the first venture outside of that city. He had come to Heristat as it was the closest city up the river and he thought perhaps a fresh start somewhere else was in order.

He had little, all of his possession in the world he was either wearing or slung in a large drawstring sack which hung around his body. The prospect of 50 gold and more to come was intriguing to him; he had never had that much money before having stolen most of what he had on him.

The job sounded like something he thought he could handle, and from the looks of the others there were several who were experienced in fighting. He was not a fighter, actually he disliked fighting, but he could defend himself if the need arose. His small wiry frame was strong but it was built more for speed than attack. If he joined this group he would leave the fighting to those whose had chosen that profession. His skills tended towards gaining access to forbidden places and if they were hunting for hidden treasure they would need his skills.

Amur was excited about the prospects but he hide it well, he listened and watched and waited. He had every intention of joining this venture, but he would wait to see who else of this assembled group would also go.

Tagea is the shortest trip and there are two places there to explore. Anyplace that isnt above our level would be good. I guess we can vote on places, such as Tagea, and let the Castle Keeper let us know if the places we suggest would be above our experience. Wouldnt do to die too quickly.

So I also will vote for Tagea as it is a good suggestion. Any others?
