Is the city question directed at us?

If so, I say we pass through. Not like we've had the opportunity to spend our resources.

Subject: After-party

As the party listened to Landiir’s responses, Draven cracked his neck impatiently and let his fire-flicked eyes bounce from one member of the party to the next. The settled on Nel for a moment, and followed her clear emerald eyes to the figure in the corner of the room. He could read her face well enough to know she had been watching the figure, and if there was one member of the group who’s insight Draven trusted most, it was Nel’s. It had been years since the two had met; or rather, Draven had met Nel and her friend Adysine; but since that time, the two had had their own share of adventures into the shadows. The two were similar in many ways, and when it came to infiltrating, spying, or overall sneaking into other peoples properties and businesses, and coming back out with either a sought after item in hand, or a corpse in their wake, there was no better duo. Not that Draven had met.

Yet the two were alike in other ways as well. The talents they possessed both came from a shadowed past, and while Draven had never cared enough to ask; he could read that she held many a dark secret of her own. It was no secret that Nel d’Denieth was not only a part of House Denieth, but also possessed one of the linear marks, and yet clearly she came from a past that was shadier then the sun baked courtyards and gold-laced halls of the Denieth enclaves. Draven knew enough about the woman’s history, and knew about her struggles at a young age. They almost rang home with him…almost. Yet he was certain there was a shadow in the young woman’s past that she was trying to outrun.

There had been times where he had almost been tempted to offer his aid to her. They were nearly kindred spirits, and he knew full well what it was like to flee from a shadowed past. However, with the burden that Draven Ire’Dante carried, his empathy for others was always short-lived. Hide from your past, while you can, M’dear. It always catches you. Be grateful for the shadow that haunts you. There is a much deeper darkness out there then you can imagine….

And while there had been times when it seemed a true friendship, perhaps more, was beginning to evolve between the two, Draven had never failed to step back into the shadows, and to erect a barrier that could not be penetrated. Nel, would never guess why. Could never; and it was better that way. Some evils should never be brought on others…

A loud slap drew Draven’s attention, and he found himself smirking at the wounded bard and the offended elf. Landiir stood to rise, and Draven watched silently as Nel so graciously bestowed her affections on him. Draven knew Nel well, and he knew her motives. He wondered silently if she succeeded. The Gnome stood to rise with his arms around both the women. Draven felt the rising urge once again to stick a dagger in his forehead, but his thoughts were drawn back to Nel.

“Unless absolutely necessary, I’d say we adjourn here and discuss anything further back at headquarters.”

Pushing his chair back, Draven stood. He was a tall man, and immensely menacing when at his full height. Grabbing his massive, sheathed blade from the back of his chair, and downing the remainder of his ale, he cast a glance once more at the lone figure in the booth. His eyes narrowed, and a flicker of yellow light danced for a moment behind them.

The group was busy staring at the bard. Nel spoke again.

“Disqc was shown up by a man half his size with twice his skill, let us buy him a few more rounds that on the morrow he need not remember this embarrassment. Barkeep!...”

Draven sneered and slung his sword over his back.

“Perhaps he would learn from the embarrassment.”

Without a word he headed for the door.

Both men stared at Teros incredulously. He could be uncertain what they thought, but both of them had their weapons sheathed. In the wake of the holy flashed, the courtyard was washed in the deepest of shadows, and the sun had finally sank beyond the western hills.

“Hajin Ra?”

The knight studied Teros, as if measuring him.

“Defiling thief or not, what would bring you to those grounds?”

Suddenly, one of the great wooden doors of the cathedral creaked open, and an old man swathed in silk robes of deep blues and rich bronze shading emerged. His white beard flowed to his stomach in great braids, and around his head was a bronze circlet. The two knights who had been questioning Teros knelt to him, and he casually waved them to their feet.

“You have played your part, Sirs, but I will take it from here.”

Though he was older, he descended the steps with the grace of a man half his age. Teros caught the glimpse of a blade at his hip, beneath his outer robes. He approached and laid his hand on Teros’ shoulder.

“Come with me, young warrior. You will tell me how you came to aquire such a sacred artifact, and I will help to guide you on the ladies path.”

With that he lead Teros away from the two warriors, who stared after the old man with a deep respect Teros had rarely seen. Though it was dark, the old man lead him through the courtyard and between the towers of the cathedral, to a garden encircled by towering pomegranite trees. A circle of stone benches lay within, encircling a stone statue of a warrior, dressed in ceremonial robes, and wielding a curved sword towards the heavens.

Gesturing for Teros to take a seat in one of the benches, before following his own advice, the old man said

“I am Headmaster Suten Kar’noth, and I am also head of this most sacred of Cathedrals. I am a member of the ring of Elders, of the Order of the Golden Dawn. Will you tell me why you were in The Land of Glass?”

“Murderer or not, you’ve shown yourself to be the most cowardly of dogs,” Marie all but growled. “Let the woman go and I’ll stand with you until the watch arrives. Harm her and your life is forfeit. How many others here need to face you down before you realize you haven’t a choice? Set the woman aside and you won’t have her blood on your hands.”

The man looked at Marie in surprise.

“Who are you? No it doesn’t matter. Don’t come any nearer, or the girl dies.”

The girl squeaked. A small streak of blood ran down her neck.

“Are you deaf, soldier?”

The man was shouting at the knight who stood in the doorway, as if in a daze.

“I said move away from the door. Do it now, or I’ll cut her. You all think I’m afraid to die? I’ll bring as many of you down as I can with me!”

He was panting, and his eyes were fervent. He was drunk, and possibly under the influence of else, and he was very serious.

Subject: Enter Draven!

He had been the first to arrive, earlier in the day, and with his arrival, half the tavern had cleared. He had found the darkest table in the nicest plot of shadow the Lone Tower Inn had to offer, and had spent the time since, hunched over a mug of ale. His raven hair spilled over his shoulders and back, and hung like a veil around his face, nearly to the table, and his golden eyes, though not currently burning, gleamed in the lamplight like a cats. Discq had arrived shortly after, and Draven had made it an objective to point out

“When last I saw you, your tunic was a bit tighter round the chest and looser round the waist! Good to see you’ve been eating well.”

Ah…the evening may hold some entertainment after all. Not that Discq would have any luck with his usual wooing at this table tonight. He would flash a bar maid an inviting grin, only to have Draven flash the same woman a most cynical grin, accompanied by a flash of his eyes. Needless to say, the only people joining them were the others from their old group, whom Draven didn’t bother greeting.

They talked idly while Draven watched dully as a gnome groped two humans, and wondered if he could stick said gnome the booth with a dagger. When Landiir d’Tharashk and his war-forged bodyguard strolled into the tavern, Draven had only nodded to the man in greeting, but listened intently.

The news he heard was dire, and Draven felt the typical ‘very little’. He eyed the man with cold eyes, and thought about the dead half elf for a moment. He had never liked Maurd Dalaan. Had always been about as frooty as the man currently leaning back in his chair, eyeing the backside of a half elf maid…which Draven would not deny, was in far better taste then some of his (Discq’s) previously escapades. Nomatter, his death should have been unsettling. Draven resisted the urge to tip the bards chair, and instead spoke with his course, gravelly voice.

“Maurd Dalaan survived the Great War, to die in the grandest city in Breland. Despite the Irony, death has a way of catching up with us…don’t you think? If his killer had been so careless as to let herself be seen, and to hand the weapon to the hands of city watch, then she was either being oh so generous, or she’s a sloppy little amature…Now which do you suspect?”

A drunken elf struck the table and Discq caught himself loudly. Draven cast him a glare before taking a sip of his ale and finalizing.

“No doubt she was hired by someone, and a someone who can afford to pay to end anothers life.”

Draven grinned wolfishly and added

“Funny bit that is, aint it?”

“No matter. You have not told us what business Maurd Dalaan had in the embassy, or what motives may lie behind a sloppy little killer with a crossbow…”

Draven threw his hair over his shoulder, took a swig of his ale, and glanced sidelong at the bard, as he began to speak, already volunteering his services, before standing and making his way towards the elf-wench he had been eying earlier. As he passed, Draven muttered

“Fix yer hair mate. Looks as if you've been stranded in the rain.”

Draven had just started walking away from the group, and the dead badger, when a flood of Syls washed over him, along with the others. A young Sylvari woman flung her arms around him in an embrace that had him holding his arms out and scowling. His arms were caught and his hands kissed by others, before he was relinquished and could break free of the grateful mob, with scowls and mumbled “Don’t touch me”s and “It was nothing.”s.

Of course he was lucky only a small percentage of the village actually approached him. The rest avoided his dark demeanor and glowing eyes. Draven was perfectly content with this, and stood on the sidelines, watching as the others were smothered with ‘thank you’s.

The feast, however, Draven attended, dragging a chair and towards the nearest keg of wine, and indulging in a plate of food followed by many, many cups of wine. He listened to the speech, as if bored by it, and he shooed any approaching females. He was in no mood for fun tonight…even with an elf wench.

By the end of the evening, Draven was well on his way towards full fledged inebriation. The first opportunity he had, he had pillaged a keg, and had rolled it off to a nice dark patch in the forest, away from the commotion. Here he would spend his evening, leaning against a tree with one arm resting on the keg, and the other cupping a wooden goblet. If there was one thing elves were good for, it was wine.

“If there really is a large tribe of lizardmen going to attack the humans than they want to know about it. If you can tell the humans all you know, they will probably let you stay, perhaps as a special ‘guardian’ of their ruins? Would you like that? You wouldn’t be bothered by people coming here so much, and they would be grateful and perhaps even try to find your tribe for you?”

The creature regarded the kender silently for a long moment. Turning it’s head, it regarded the hooded figure of Scourge, and then his bird. It’s insect eyes returned to the Kender.

“If Kshhhtakekekuk tribe live, then Kshhhtakekekuk find them. Kshhhtakekekuk not need help. Kshhhtakekekuk not want remain in ruin long either. But Kshhhtakekekuk not go to soft skin hive. Kshhhtakekekuk be attacked by soft skins. Soft skins send one soft skin to Kshhhtakekekuk and Kshhhtakekekuk tell it story of lizard men.”

September 7th/Sunday Evening

Gnomefeld Embassy/Inenhallas Shrine

Her newfound friends were both obviously excited by the approval of the song by a cleric of Inenhalla, and they eagerly granted her the time and privacy of her goddesses Shrine. Finishing her meal and rising, Rinrin and her large, canine companion approached the garden. Compared to the starkness of the desert, the lush, gentle of the swaying willow eaves, and the dance of the tall grasses and brilliantly colored flowers were a living, welcoming greeting. Even the stone wall and it’s owl sentinels seemed flourishing. Rinrin didn’t hesitate to pass beyond the wall and onto the thin, moss carpeted path that led into the peaceful blanket of darkness the willows cast at this hour.

In the center of the garden, was a clearing; and lit illuminated in with the silver glow of the moon stood a white, stone fountain. A spring surfaced here, and the water rolled gently over the smooth edges of the fountain and into a pool that mirrored the stars above. It was here that Rinrin could truly feel her goddesses presence, breathed through the watchful trees.

She lingered a while, with nothing but the tranquility of the garden, and the embrace of her Goddesses presence, when suddenly, Conjori stirred, and darted for a nestle of trees. Before Rinrin could stop him, a creature stepped from the trees and towards the dog. The creature, could best be described as a deer, perhaps the size of an elk, and similar of stature, but it’s fur was white in the moonlight. It had antlers, but they branched and tangled, and poured down along the creatures face. Ivey hung, intertwined with the antlers, and almost giving the creature the appearance of sporting flowing hair. Ivey also flowed down it’s back, in slender tendrils. It’s face, Rinrin could see, was also not entirely like that of a deer, but almost humanoid, with large, almond shaped eyes and an aura of pure serenity. Rinrin could feel the presence of her Goddess flowing through this being. The creature lowered it’s head, and it’s nose touched Conjoris up reaching nose, and he licked it gently and lovingly, as if he knew this creature and adored it.

The creature lifted it’s head and regarded Rinrin, and she knew she loved this being with all her heart. Was it Inenhalla herself? Was it an aspect of the goddess? Some being whom the Goddess had sent to her? Rinrin knew in the least that this creature was holy. For a moment the creature and Rinrin faced one another, unmoving. Conjori stood beside the being, before suddenly it turned and disappeared into the shadows of the trees. Conjori returned to Rinrin and nuzzled her hand. She was alone in the garden…

(any attempts to communicate with the being are in vain, and you cannot find it if you seek it.)

Subject: Draven...From What You Guys Know....

None of the group knows Draven very well, and from what you can gather, it doesn't seem like many people outside your little "family" do either...His history as far as any of you can gather is as follows...

He has worked for a number of different mercenary, bounty hunter, and even assassin guilds and organizations. He has worked for house Deneith in the past, but he has also informed you that he has worked against house Deneith, and infact, has sabotaged the mercenary house in the past. He seems to get pleasure from his lack of allegiance, and you all know full well that he is an master of war, as well as an ingenious 'rogue', capable of getting in and out of places others would dream of going. It's no wonder his services are valued by great powers...thought it is odd that Draven seems to take greater pleasure out of pitting these great powers against one another, or backstabbing one for another, then he does from actually receiving his paycheck.

You don't know anything about his childhood, or his young years. He once told you that he wasn't yet 30, and yet he's lived a life eternal. You don't know his birthday, and he's never even verified what nation he was born in. It's clear he holds no loyalties to any nation however. You do know he was working as a freelance mercenary and assassin when you met him, and you had heard rumors about him, before you even met him. You had heard that he was a Demon, and that the war must be providing a profit to even fiends, and the denizens of Khyber. You had heard he torments his victims, drinks their blood. You had heard he sends their souls to hell after he has slain them. He spent years working for the Nation of Karrnath, already feared for it's armies of the dead. Enemies of Karrnath also feared being the target of the "Infernal Soul Craver". There was a fate worse then death, and for a time, Draven was one of them.

Of course these were more or less local rumors in the area of wartorn lands that Draven currently occupied when you encountered him. None of you can be sure why his eyes glow, or what dark secrets his past holds. he doesn't talk about it...and none of you can even defend him against these rumors...because you can't be sure if they are correct or false! He does seem to savor battle more then anything, and he has a passion for hired murder, but in recent years he seems to have taken on something of a code of morals, and he seeks a good valid reason to kill, rather then killing for the sake of it.

Draven is prone to slipping off on his own and being gone for weeks or months on end. He comes and goes without informing the rest of you, and you do not know where he goes or what he does. Only that he often seems restless beforehand, and relieved upon his return.

As a group....
Trust is up to the individual. After all these years, you are still unsure if Draven holds any loyalties to you or not. Your inclination is that he does. He's never betrayed any of you, and he has never acted in a way that compromises the safety of the group. He does MUCH to compromise his own safety, however, whether it be charging recklacely into a horde of war-forged, or heading into a crumbling building to fetch a meaningless token, or bit of money.

Draven is VERY agile, and very stealthy, and he can be trusted with getting places others cannot. He is also a merciless, brutal warrior, and comforting to fight beside. He seems to have a sixth sense that none of you can explain, in that he can sense others before he sees them, whether they are behind walls, or not.

Draven does have a charm about him. Though he seemingly doesn't mean for it; he tends to attract the few women who are not terrified of him, and you all can remember past adventures in which he has brought home (intentionally or stalked by) women with a mad, fervent lust for him. Ironically enough, one thing most have in common is that they are part of cults, or are part of dangerous criminal underworlds.

He has a sense of humor, though it tends to be dry and cynical; but he also has violent mood swings, and slips in and out of a range of emotional balances.

He doesn't seem interested in entertainment, aside from reading, (he has a dark taste, and a fascination with the hells, and undead, and whatever happens to the soul of a person after death), but hes been to brothels (and been followed home), and he's been to pubs in which whole, street burning brawls were blamed on him. These seem to be the forms of entertainment he savors.

Oh..and he drinks. Draven enjoys drinking, and he can be a mean drunk.

It's clear to all of you that something terrible has happened in his past. You suspect he was once a normal man, and was changed by something. You do not know what his lifes goals are, but you suspect he is tied in with something that he is fighting...

At first glance, Draven is terribly dark and intimidating, with perhaps even fiendish blood. Yet there is an exotic air about him. He is very handsome, with broad shoulders, and a slender,
agile frame. He is very tall, and his skin is terribly pale, and emerging from his sleeves, and up his neck from his chest and shoulders are an array of knot worked tattoos. His
face seems etched from stone and void of emotion, save perhaps cynicism or anger. His features are angular and his cheekbones and jawline are carven and strong; and Two braids hang from his chin. Each ear is adorned with 3 silver hoops. His most striking facial feature though, are his eyes. Completely inhuman. They are golden, and catch the light like a cats would; and in fury, they glow like those of a demons. His
raven black hair flows over his shoulders like an ebony cascade, and runs to his lower back. He wears beautiful, intricately laced and patterned, black Darkleaf armor.
Cloaked over his shoulders is a
flowing, open fronted, long black, cloaklike coat, which hangs booted ankles. His right hand is gloved in a black gauntlet, yet the other is bare and tattooed. Hanging over his back is a massive Dai-Katana, sheathed in black leather.

Subject: The concept

Firstly, sorry if anything is not matching..I actually found all these stats, (and the backstory) perfectly fitting, from the game I had entered him in before that was in Eberron...so if money is too much or something, thats because i didnt think to change it and it was accepted in teh other game.

However, his class concept...is simple. I looked at his lifestyle, and decided what skills and feats he would learn for such a lifestyle. I think you are correct, in that he is based on Warrior, rogue, with the assassin spell list. Except I strongly limited and cut out abilities from every class. For example, Instead of getting a bonus feat every three levels, Draven gets one every 4 or 5 (have to look that up). The spell list he can choose from is VERY VERY limited compared to that of an assassin, and he is missing some very key Rogue abilities (Uncanny dodge and sneak attack for example). Tried and true, this has proven to be very fair, and Draven isn't remotely stacked. The reason the skills are so varied are because of his unique history, but they roll together nicely.....Looking over them though, I may just decide to change him around and turn him conventional....I'm noticing weaknesses that I don't like -_-. But if I don't change it, then we'll just go with this .

As for the poison-I've never heard of it losing it's effects after any period of time, and I know of real life situations in which applicable poisons don't wear off (save perhaps rain or something).....No DM has ever questioned this before. He keeps them on the inside of his coat flap, on either side...but there is a typo. I didn't mean 20. I meant meant 10, and since my money limit is lower in this game then the last, we can have them be typical daggers.

Bahhhhh...this was written long ago. I may change it around also....Im thinking of sacrificing poison darts for...you know...better armor....Since I dont remember even using them in any of my games. We shall see!!!

And as for serving with them in the last war-
Can Draven have not served with them DURING the war...but has worked with them as a mercenary (in their current mercenary group) since the war? That way they are familiar with him, as a work partner, and a fellow mercenary, but not necessarily a war buddy (as we know he was a bit different during the war).

APPEARANCE

At first glance, Draven is terribly dark and intimidating. Yet there is an
exotic air about him. He is very handsome, with broad shoulders, and a thin,
agile frame. He is very tall, and his skin is terribly pale. His arms and chest are
entirely covered in scrolling, black knot work and spiral designs. His
face seems etched from stone and void of emotion, save perhaps
pain. His features are angular and his cheekbones and jawline are carven and strong; and Two braids hang from his chin. His most striking facial feature though, are his eyes. Completely inhuman. They are golden, and catch the light like a cats would; and in fury, they glow like those of a demons. His
raven black hair flows over his shoulders like an ebony cascade, and run to his lower back. He wears beautiful, black leather armor.
Intricate braids and patterns run along it. Cloaked over his shoulders is a
flowing, open fronted, leather coat, which hangs entirely to his
ankles.(It‘s a trench coat). Slung over his shoulder is a massive, onyx
Dai-Katana, sheathed in black leather.

Darkvision-Draven is cursed, and a part of it are his eyes....which..aside from appearance, are more of a blessing.

(I think thats everything. If you disagree with anything, lemme know! His class was custom made, and has been approved in every other game, but of course, every DM is different . )

Action points are friggen awsome. Trust me, they make for a hell of a time! Also, Eberron CR are often configured with AP in mind.

Oh, and yeah Draven's the fighting type, but hes about as much a fighter as sayyy....a Ranger..and where the ranger is good at wilderness stuff and has wilderness type magic, Draven has a variety of "Soul Reaper" abilities and magic....so hes good at sneaking and doing other such things. I'll have to dig up his stats.

If grugg pokes out one of your eyes, you could always just say that you're one of Mighty Odins most blessed followers! And we all know that Odin's mastery of the runes means he can get ANY woman he wants.

Ayrn I'm honored that you have read about Draven and seem to know him well .

Take your time Skari. Don't want you getting bogged down.

AND AS FOR YOU, GRUGG!!! If you don't post to Noldaria, it will be YOU with a missing eye. Be sure you can handle this before you join!..Or Draven will gut you.

(PS...FYI Skari, Draven IS a dark charactor, but he can fit in a good to neutral campaign..he isn't necissarily "evil" per say.....well...I guess taht depends on your point of veiw . ANyways, point being=dont worry about having to have an evil campagin..all campaigns dravens been in have been good. with him being that dark evil bastard in the corner.

ME! And Though I'm using Draven in a different game currently....I've always felt like Eberron was his setting...it's pulpy/dark/intrigue atmosphere and setting are good for one such as he....Though he IS a very customized charactor..I'll run everything by you and see if you will allow it or not. If not, ill just think up someone else!
