I feel like an incomplete FAQ with so many questions. o_o

Kay, I need an honest answer(s) - Does Ortlieb's speech seem off? I originally tried to tone it down, because he's a half-orc and and all, but he just seems to want to talk like a rigidly polite butler or something. Does this seem disparate given his character? Or does it fit with how I've described/played him so far?

Also, unrelated, is it possible to do italics and such in posts? I vaguely recall someone using them, but standard "[i][/i]" code did not work, which is the only way I have any clue how to do it. >.>

As for the character speech, I would say it all depends on what his background is. So you are going to have to figure it out. I just assumed there was a backstory to how he came to speak so well.

Alchemical?

Yeah, I'll have to think about that then.

Thanks for the info about the italics.

Regarding the fight, this is presumably a question for Sib - Does alchemical fire count as regular fire, or would it be considered magical?
(Also, does running closer to something count as an action in and of itself? As in, would use up my "turn" so to speak?)

Nature of the alchemical

99.9% sure that the flames are of the non-magical variety; the thing about alchemical things is that they're supposed to be able to work in non-magic fields, since they aren't made from magic, just (sometimes) volatile compounds and chemistry.

Basically, can think of alchemist's fire as a sort of malakov cocktail type thing. Kind of.

Either way, not magic.

Another analogy, would be like if someone dropped a firecracker/candle thing in a wood shed.

Not sure if I'm helping or not at this point, but I ramble sometimes.

Can Lloyd see it?

Wondering if Lloyd can see the fire. If he can, he will let out some curses and then go try and put the fire out... either using his own shirt or grabbing some furs and seeing if he can smother the fire out that way. Just let me know what Lloyd sees, and if there is anything in the storage house that can be used... I am wondering if empty means empty xD. Also please let me know where the furs are on the map, so I can tell if Lloyd will want to run over and pick some up before dashing into the very inflammable stable.

Answers!

Alright, let's get these questions dealt with and see how much time is left over for mapping and editing my late-night posting failz.

I personally think Ortlieb's speech fits; he sounds like he is concerned with establishing a polite basis, being a little unfamiliar with social norms, and knowing that his reserved tone may serve to counter the common stereotypes about his kind. Like he carefully considers everything he says. I like it, anyway.

Also, you have been well advised. Alchemical fire is indeed non-magical, and at any rate, even if it was, it would be the mundane fire that would be the bigger concern in the next minute, as the stables catch on mundane fire ^-^

As for moving closer, you may move up to you base speed (most hominid folk of humanoid size have 30ft.) as one move action. On any given normal round of combat, you typically have a standard action and a move action, two move actions, or a full-round action (You also have up to one swift action, should you have anything that takes that time, and as many free actions as you like within reason). Long story short, you can move 6 spaces (every other diagonal counting as two) and still have time for a standard action.

As for Lloyd... hmm... no, it seems he would not be able to see the fire, just the Alchemist's Fire flask being thrown, though he did hear the crash. Give it maybe a round (in time for his his next turn) and he'll probably hear the crackle of the fire, and maybe by the round after that he'll be able to smell the smoke. While we're in the field of sensory perception, give it about a minute and he'll be able to feel the flames, and not too long after that, taste them, too ^^.

Some furs are at the feet of the bandits, but the majority of the modest pile is on the table, available for pick up but safely well out of the fire's way . . . for now.

The storage hut is normally where the Levetons would put their furs and such things to pile up before going to town, but since the bandits have started collecting, they haven't had anything in there. They do have a supply room in the main hall with some barrels of drinking water, though.

FYI

I am coming on RDInn about 2-3 times a day. I ain't posting cause I ain't seeing much for Lloyd to do until he either sees an opening in an opponents guard, or he catches on to the whole fire ordeal.

So if at any point you think Lloyd can sneak out and attack someone without them noticing, let me know Sib. Otherwise I am pressuming that people have 360 degree vision at all times and perfect hearing... even in combat. :3

Fire in the Kitchen?

I've updated the map up to the hooded bandit's turn where he whips the flask and moves away. I've begun working on what happens immediately after, from Ortlieb's spell and Sylvia's attack.

Does Lloyd still wish to partake in the fire-fighting efforts, or will he choose to remain hidden in the case of opportunity?

EDIT: for information for Lloyd's sake. The fire leftover from Ortlieb's spell is a ring of hotspots and low-level ground fires from the outer-range of the flask's splash that are no threat to step over right now. If left unchecked, though, they will slowly pick up vigour again. They're pretty tame right now, though.

Health and Grace

*posts extra notes from OoC here*

You may have noticed I’m not quite following a strict line of ‘loosing hp means getting wounded’. Rather, I’m following what I find is a rather elegant system called ‘Grace and Health’, which you don’t have to worry about knowing beyond a couple aesthetic effects. The run-down is that it splits common hit points into ‘grace’, which is a combination of skill and stamina, and ‘health’ which represents how physically hardy the character is. Grace comes from class hit points, gained as you level up, as defined by your combat experience and training, while Health is Constitution-based, as well as other sources of physical hardiness (also increases as you level, but not as much.

Grace is lost first and when it runs out, the idea is that you are slower to dodge or block attacks coming at you (see the bandit woman, who blocked the first, but suffered the second attack by Aria). Of course, it makes no sense that you might dodge all the various kinds of attack just as long as you have remaining grace, but generally in my description I’ll try to specify how superficial or minor the injuries that do happen are.

Just think of it in a kind of theatrical moment—when the good or bad guys start spraying blood, you know they’re getting close to their limit. Of course, you’ll always know your own exact hit point total, so the distinction between your grace and health is purely cosmetic for you.

Of course, when it comes to your enemies on the other hand, it can be quite useful. Note that only enemies with classes have grace. Huge monsters have the amounts of hp they posses just because they actually are that buff and thick-skinned; not half the result of their physique and half their skill (well, quarter-physique, health is usually quite a bit lower than grace).

Anything unclaimed just gets shunted into 'party loot' for wholesale later (Oleg offers to buy anything from you at full price up to the maximum gold he currently has at the fort, which I believe is ~200G) Note that claiming your personal wealth isn't particularly important; leaving it in the group cache leaves it available for anyone who needs it on the party's behalf to use it (Gold for buying adventuring supplies, potions for the most mortally wounded, etc.)

He also has stock you can purchase from him. I'll just throw it here for convenience.
