Subject: I didn't actually lose anything. ^^'

Hang on a minute, I never put up the lore for any of our material adventure characters on the Lore article. It's practically a spoiler to detail heroes from 200 years ago that may or may not become relevant in an adventure. ^^'

I can put up some brief descriptions...once they become relevant/found in one of the TSC adventures on this inn.

(Takes a nearby seat, raising an eyebrow)

The Reaper, eh? Gracing such an establishment with his presence. Well I'll be...

(Bows politely in greeting, eyeing the skeletal hand and scythe suspiciously) Welcome to the inn then, good sir. Forgive me if I don't shake your hand. Not here on business, I hope?

Oh, and of course, while you're here, feel free to sample this inn's excellent selection of wines. (Hands you the wine list)

Anyway, good to see another innmate, as always! I see you've met some of the crew already. Enjoy your stay at the Red Dragon Inn!

Happy birthday to you, DA. Be well, take care, and have fun!

P.S. I brought the wine, if anyone's interested.

"No. I can vouch that making this alliance may be necessary, and I can vouch that even the League has reason to offer it. I can even vouch that the Celians will undoubtedly try to damage such an alliance. But I can no more verify his precise words as a diplomat would. In this, I a warmage, not a mindreader."

Crystal raises herself, heart beating. So far, this was going better than she could have hoped. This alliance was needed, but forcing Coast to trust a Sevaraii can only backfire eventually. Some instinct of hers drew her to respond on Takra's behalf, but be it protective or contemptious she herself was unsure.

Subject: Is she *lecturing* Monarchs? Oh dear...

"Does the Sevaraii truly wish to help us, your majesty? Unlikely. But this may be the turning point of the war regardless, and they have every reason to support us, even if for their own benefit." Crystal began, speaking loudly. She was not normally so unwise as to speak to his majesty, Skantea, in such an open and direct fashion, but they would listen to no less. They will not accept any lie or flaw in logic, but they may consider a disciplined, detached proposal.

Crystal cared remarkably little for the other lords of Coast in the room at this time. Not because she did not hold them in the highest of regards - for she did - but because they are by far the least likely to sentence her to execution for Treason. Even if they had the mindset of her own King, whom she knew so much about; she is a citizen, a mage of Valsavathar first and foremost, even before Coast.

They wouldn't dare execute her if Skantea did not already agree...right? She just had to convince him, from a survival point of view.

"The war will go badly if we do not take this deal. Ask any general. We are caught between two powers greater than us, of whom we speak of both as utterly devoid of reason or morals. If the Celian empire were to be driven out of our lands by this alliance, then both the League and Coast have only to gain...and they gain nothing by betraying us, particularly if the Celians are no longer a threat to us, as a needless war against our lands can only lead to vast losses to their army, if such a war is successful at all to them."

Crystal was desperate. That mind-link had unlocked...something within her. She needed to live. She needed to fight. She needed the League to stand by Coast.

"Certainly the League is seeing our situation and giving us the opportunity to cease hostilities and ally against a common foe. Certainly the Celians would never give us such a chance, not unless we were willing to go on genocidal rampages throughout our own lands. This will save our lands. This unwinnable war can be salvaged. Our way or life will be preserved, our lines go down for generations more, our histories written and preserved."

Crystal had never spoken so much since...her trail. In some ways...it was like her trail all over again. Certainly she was representing herself once again, though in a somewhat stronger state of mind.

She stepped back, eyes not breaking with Skantea's, before giving a deep bow without returning upright, eyes affixed to the floor.

"Your Majesties."

Topic: Favorite Homebrew
Subject: My two cents.

I feel my post is rather...late. Incredibly so, but it's a topic that interests me, somewhat.

My favourite homebrewed race, which I have mentioned on another forum topic due to my use of it in my current 'world' of adventures, is as much a state as an individual race, just like liches or vampires.

Known by a variety of terms, from Godtouched to the Hopeful, the race is comprised of either fanatically loyal servants to Gods or else people attempting to steal power from a God, and having had their attempt end...poorly.

More specifically, they are created when a God is killed through some method; usually by the rare occurence of successful violence. Essentially the divine power of a god blasts outwards, and certain priests/clerics/paladins/other may attempt to harness the sudden overly powerful surge, perhaps trying to capture the energy in order to somehow preserve their God, or some part of it. Inevitably, it often ends badly, with results ranging from insanity to violent tendencies to straightforward death. However, a rare few survivors actually succeed to some level, even if their mind is the cost, and become walking embodiments of a dead God, with a fraction of the Gods power and a slight element of the Gods persona. The specifics of being a Godtouched vary greatly from sufferer to sufferer, but almost all are powerful...and every last one is dangerous.

Well, I suppose I'll point out in this thread that I have been, and may be for a bit of time yet, somewhat quiet in the threads.

Er...not that I was ever a remarkably prolific poster anyway, I imagine, and for that I apologize.

But anyway, I probably won't be seen in Chat or forum topics for a while. Basically, I've been growing busy, I have more things to plan than I usually do for D&D both on and off the inn and a few other things.

I'll continue posting, as frequently as I can, on the actual games I play in and GM on the site, though. They shouldn't be affected. And this isn't an official 'going': I may still get time every now and then to chat or post on miscellaneous topics. It's just pointing out in advance my apologies if my number of weekly posts significantly drop, at least for a while.

Also, on a completely different note (since I can't find a forum topic for bugs or support), is anyone else having a problem with the 'Subscribe' feature of the rdinn? Any of my more recent forum subscriptions on this site, starting from a few weeks ago, don't appear to notify me when there's a new post. At least, I can't find anything in my inbox or spam, besides notifications of subscriptions I've had for a while.

Subject: Gah! Why do I always write such LONG posts?

The nearby clerics gave Matrim a polite nod as he passed them to reach the main doorway. Walking through the heavy wood-and-iron door, Matrim found himself in the more traditional 'Tavern' area of the Waystation. Wooden floors, basic seating and cheap tables showed it was more suited to survive spilt drinks or angry soldiers than cater to nobleman and scholars. Though not advertised as a feature of Waystations as such, common rumor speaks of minor enchantments through the means of Divine Runes to resist fire and other more magical means of destruction in a Waystation, to prevent any in the chain of expensive buildings from simply collapsing under the influence of an angry - or drunk - wizard.

At such a time of morning, with midday yet to strike, many who would otherwise be drinking in the Waystation are out to work or travelling, and so - despite the size of the room - Matrim could count the patrons on one hand. Two men, possibly mercenaries, undoubtedly gambling, considering the petty coin on the table and the strange mix of dice and cards between them. A casually dressed orc sitting at the bar quietly, and a female human, probably younger than Matrim, speaking with the dragonborn behind the counter, acting as both barkeeper and innkeeper. Little attention was given to Matrim as he walked in, though as he approached the occupied innkeeper he could not help but hear some of the womans's words.

"I am aware of my chances of speaking with him, but I would like to make my way to Bahamut's Rest regardless. If I must wait, then I shall make use of the Great Library there. But may I once again implore you to reconsider the cost of immediate transportation? I believed and still believe that 3gp should be well within reason, and even for that I must take from my funds for food."

The woman did not look overly desperate, nor poor. Indeed, if anything she looked as calm as a priest, if not far more so. Her loose but lengthy linen leggings and shirt looked functional beyond all else, suggesting freedom of movement and lightweightedness above warmth or fashion. No visible weapons, and her hair was cropped remarkably short, an inch long at most, leading to a wholly unremarkable appearance.

The dragonborn was shaking his head.

"I'm sorry. At that distance, this early, that is below the rate that we would charge. As expensive as the cost seems, the administration efforts, as well as the unscheduled hired cart, horse, driver and security adds up quickly. I cannot allow below four gold pieces." The innkeeper clearly held no glee for turning the young woman away, with his grimace. He whispered two words that Matrim suspected was 'I'm sorry', before turning to armor-clad newcomer.

"A bit early in the day for a drink, good sir? Or do you wish to hire transport?"

The woman regarded Matrim with interest, keen eyes looking him over, before stepping to the side politely to let him talk directly to the barkeep, drumming her fingers softly along the counter as she waited for the two to talk and finish.

"Yes...I will vouch for him, or at the least his suggestions." Crystal spoke, tight lipped, preparing to follow the Captain, concealing her emotions carefully, taking in the happenings of the antechamber quietly and quickly. A technique many in the Valsavatharian military would do well to learn.

Even as she took the recent occurences in his stride, Crystal's mind was carefully working on several levels at once...a depth of imagination that is helpful when being a professional warmage.

On one element, she was foreseeing possible outcomes, and fearing for where this may lead. On another, more logical element, she was racking her mind for anything she knew of the King that may become essential. Skantea is an individual to be treated...carefully.

The Deva did not break stride, but he blinked nonetheless at one particular passing comment. His most common expression of surprise.

"-blessed by the gods-"

It reminded him of something he had forgotten, or neglected, to do in the past weeks. He had grown too accustomed to tribal life, he forgot to regard the Gods the proper respect, even by a Primal Shaman. He would remember that for his next meal.

Expressionless still, Serrah made his way slowly through the market district, heading north. He kept on the lookout for some landmark or clue to direct him to the Estate he sought.

The Deva remained stationary as he answered the guard politely. Time was not a current concern.

"Yes, I shaped the wood myself, though the copper tips of the javelings were made with the aid of a mixed goblinoid tribe."

The Deva bowed politely to the guard. The city's welcome was warmer than some he'd had in the past, after all.

"Thank you, I shall make my way there immediately." Serrah said, stepping past the guard and into the city at a slow, dignified pace. He closed his eyes momentarily, communing with his spiritual companion for strength, before continuing to make his way through the city, eyes straight ahead and unheeding of the glances thrown his way.

Serrah stood almost entirely motionless, a tribute to his Deva heritage, before blinking once, slowly, his mind thinking over each word before they are spoken.

"I understand your confusion. I am here because I had heard that Lord Banum was seeking aid against the attacks." Serrah spoke, tight-lipped and almost emotionless. He waited for several seconds, before raising his chin ever so slightly as his only expression of emotion.

"May I presume I am able to enter the city?"

Serrah briefly wondered if the javelins attached to his back by a leather strap may become problematic...though he didn't see why, as he knew many bastions of civilization saw it commonplace to carry weapons such as swords. He held no malice towards cities, but being so near to one made him feel cold. The spirits felt...dead.

Sorry, but could I ask for my character sheet to be edited slightly? Solely the background, that is.

For lore purposes, could you replace the words 'Creator' in the background with simply 'lord' or some other arrangement of words? I was thinking of something else at the time of character creation, and was thinking that all angels were essentially beings created by their God, but a recent look at the Monster Manual leads me to believe they are agents, but not necessarily creations of.

Sorry if sound picky or critical, but...

I notice a lack of speed values, special Senses/vision, languages spoken and certain features (such as the Dragonborn Fury with extra attack bonus when bloodied, or the halfling Bold and Nimple Reaction benefits) in the character sheets.

Are they just irrelevant info for this game, or...? I sorta regret making my Deva character if so, since it means my 3 languages are rather much of a waste, and the dragonborn Dryt gets an advantage since his heavy armor doesn't penalize him on movement/speed.

Topic: Aftermath: The Scarred Continents (LORE ARCHIVE)
Subject: Arvale Waystations and Taverns

The sheer size of Arvale - over 300 square miles of land - means that normal travel is often inconvenient or impossible throughout the city, just as hiking across a country may be. In addition, the urban nature of the city makes owning a horse or a mount even more difficult, unlike in the open countryside. To combat this, as Arvale expanded its ruling Council began to fund the construction of a chain of buildings based on the 'Taverns' and 'Inns' seen throughout the continents and even realms, naming them 'Waystations'. These Waystations are not as numerous as basic Taverns, but are much larger and are designed to cope with large numbers of any race or traveller, and always offer a variety of methods of transport across the city as well as security, maps, and overnight resting spots.

Waystations tend to be cheaper than your average Tavern to stay or sleep in, and attempt to cater for all races and diets from minotaurs to halflings. However, stricter supervision means they are often quieter and do not have the same selection of drinks as you may find in other taverns, and are not quite as popular as a gathering place, particularly since you may not stay more than a couple of nights in a single Waystation bed.

Freelance taverns in Arvale are far more common, some which offer bedding or rooms and many that don't. Freelance taverns vary wildly in terms of funding, selection of food and drink and also construction, just as any other Tavern. It is not uncommon to see freelance taverns specifically designed for certain patrons, from the seedier and less-than-trustworthy rogueish congregations to ones favouring a race such as goliath or elves.

Topic: Aftermath: The Scarred Continents (LORE ARCHIVE)
Subject: Libraries in the Allied Kingdom

Purpose and Implementation

In the Allied Kingdoms and surrounding nations, ranging from Kar-Me to Ceme to Tamjar to Paradise, certain Gods of the pantheon have become so widely worshipped that their temples become centers of governance or monarchy. In particular, this has been Bahamut and later Sra-Amun for Tamjar and Silverveil/Arvale, but Kar-Me in recent years has turned to Io, just as Paradise have always revered Kord for that purpose.

Regardless, all gods of the pantheon have always been accepted and worshipped to various extents, even if they lack the dedicated following of the major gods of a nation, and temples to all but the cruelest of the most known gods can be found in any land around the area if you look hard enough. Even if not as centers of governance, many temples integrate into day-to-day life even with those who are not direct followers, largely in order for funding and purpose. Temples to Pelor are often centers for the trade or discussions on farming and agriculture, temples to the Raven Queen are still used for funerals and burial rites and temples to Moradin are used as congregation for tradesman and blacksmiths. Indeed, in some cases temples have become tied permanently to more mundane roles, and gives thanks to their god in the process of mundane tasks.

An example of this were the temples to Ioun. The word "Library" in Arvale, Tamjar or Kar-Me was once a synonym for a temple to Ioun, in truth. Almost all libraries would have had a shrine or an altar of some form to him, and in many cases those responsible for the upkeep and administation of a library would be priests. Normally, as per the teachings of Ioun, these libraries would be free to the public to give the chance for others to learn, research and archive, and they acted in the trade of history and information, buying and selling scrolls and teachings to expand their collection and fund themselves. In many cases, the ruling class of a nation would aid in their funding.

Of course, since the God Wars and Ioun's destruction, many temples have converted to the new God of Knowledge, S'hiras Ahrân. However, the new controversies that his teachings spark has meant that many libraries have instead chosen to seperate from the 'temple' image they once had, and simply become mundane centers for learning. Now, both religiously kept and mundanely kept libraries exist, though the differences between the two are minor. Libraries devoted to Ahrân tend to be larger or have larger collections and be better kept, but also will be more likely to lock much information behind restricted areas for trusted priests or friends of the temple.

Historical Information

Perhaps the largest historical library in the Allied Kingdoms was the Great Library of Ioun, placed on the small, mysterious island of 'Thieves Sorrow' across the bay that made up the coast of Arvale, the library having been built centuries before the God Wars. A center of learning and arts, the Library was known for its collection of religious texts for many Gods, as well as its impeccable historical archive and Arcane knowledge written down, even if much of it - curiously for Ioun followers - was locked away from the general public.

However, tragically, nearing the end of the God Wars the library and all within it was burnt down by an insane priest of Ioun following Ioun's death.

Currently, the largest Library in Arvale is the Great Library of Bahamut's Rest, connecting to the tower of Bahamut's Rest, though dozens of smaller ones are throughout the city, commonly trading and cycling books and scrolls that have yet to be copied and redistributed. The sheer volume of writings and libraries mean that Scribes are common within the city, particularly linguists.

Topic: The Scarred Continents
Subject: More lore entries in the archive, and bonus exp.

Matrim stuck to the docks, knowing the fastest route to the nearest waystation tavern by memory, no map being necessary in the slightest. Twenty minutes should be enough, most of the wait will probably be for a wagon going in the direction he wanted unless he paid for a private one. It's not the most comfortable or cheapest way to travel, but it'll keep you out of trouble and it is the fastest unless you're some kind of mage. Certain individuals have been known to make their way across the roofs so as to move as the crow flies, but few are athletic or acrobatic enough to brave such heights and distances without growing tired.

The walk along the docks was uneventful, despite the variety of cultures that make their home in the area. Knowing the streets well, Matrim turned to the left to leave the docks, and instantly saw a mere hundred meters away one of the famous Arvale Waystations.

Where a normal tavern would, typically, be sizeable enough for a tightly-packed crowd of a couple of dozen, with a half-dozen rooms or more and a basement to stock food and drink, a Waystation was designed somewhat less reservedly.

Taking up the majority of its side of the street was a two-storey wood and stone construction. As with many Arvale buildings, the doorway was larger than expected, and the sign stating 'Waystation Inn and Travel' was higher to match - a testament to the races that dwelled within Arvale at a height of seven or more feet.

Unlike most taverns with shuttered windows, the Waystation had geniune - if murky - glass. The ground level alone, seperated into a more traditional tavern as well as a common room, would be able to comfortably contain 40 seated people, and all Waystations often had at least 20 small rooms on offer on their upper story, with larger rooms for the well-paying customers.

Beside the Waystation, though, was another building of identical height and similar width. The lower 'storey' of the second building was completely open to the street, no wall blocking the view of what was clearly a huge stable complete with horses and wagons off to the side, along with sacks of equipment ready to be carted off and all of the tools and food necesary for the animals. An open staircase led to the fully walled upper story, held aloft with many structural pillars and beams, where certain items were stored and administration was taken care of for hiring or buying. Standing around both buildings were 6 Clerics of Sra-Amun, along with two Paladins acting as guards.

The cost of hiring a wagon, if he were willing to wait, would be a mere 5 silver, Matrim knew. Expensive for day-to-day standards, but perfectly reasonable considering the safety and speed they provide and the effort of maintaining the horses and wagons. If he wanted to hire a horse or one of the horse-drawn carts designed for one or two passengers in mind, it may reach into the cost of several gp. It was usually considered good manners - though not strictly necessary - to check with the Innkeeper inside the Waystation before going to book travel arrangements, to prevent unnecessary queuing.
