USS Peregrine;  Sickbay - 1100

=/= Now hear this. This is Commander Silas Drake. Effective immediately, I am re-assuming command of the USS Peregrine. As I understand it, Starfleet Command is anxious for us to stop taking up space here at Starbase 118, so as soon as our refit is complete, we will be making weigh. Captain Drake out.=/=

Chief Cook sighed slightly as the Captain signed off; she didn't know how others felt, but she was glad that Drake was back in the Captain's chair. She liked Drake, and didn't like change, the worst change was one of command. Having a new CMO was bad enough, well she had to admit in the last couple days, she had come of like Melody and thought she was going to be a good doctor. Of course, the real thing would be when things came to a head; they would all see what the new Doctor was made of, for sure.

She turned as the CMO's Office door opened and the Doctor walked into the Sickbay. Chief Cook was the only one there, standing with PADD in hand, going over the final list of supplies that had been received from the Starbase.

“Good Morning Doctor,” Cook greeted Melody as she walked into the room, “we received the final supplies we were waiting on and everything is squared away and ready for departure. I let the remaining staff go and resumed the standard watch rotation.”  

Dana had sent the new watch schedule to the Doctor yesterday and was sure she had already gone over it.  Since she hadn't gotten back to her with any changes, Cook assumed the Doctor hadn't had any issues.  The watch rotations in medical were 12 hr shifts, and the Lt. had the 1st shift today, while Cook had the 2nd.  Of course, this was for standard operations, if there was an emergency, all medical staff could be recalled as needed. 

(OOC: I'm not sure what day of the week this is, so I'm not sure of the watch schedule right now. Perhaps someone could let me know? )

(Edit: Ok, found out the day is Friday according to page 1 of Q&A.  So edited post to remove other medical staff as the Doctor and Cook are the ones on duty today.  Another edit, as I noticed I had the wrong Deck listed as Sickbay, seems it's on Deck 3 according to the ships plans. Oops!   I'm just going to put Sickbay as there is only one, right? )

Yes, I know Cook has a habit of using Ma’am, sorry about that.   I knows it’s Starfleet protocol, but there is a Canon precedent; Captain Janeway didn’t like to be called Sir, she preferred Ma’am or better yet Captain.

But knowing your problem with it, I’ll try to refrain from having her do it again. 😊

I want to point out that while Tal is extensively combat trained, martial arts isn’t boxing. A martial artist fighting under boxing rules is at a disadvantage; just ask Conor McGregor. 😏

I see someone noted the Chief's Poker night.  Sweet!   Yeah Cook has a rep to uphold, but Poker isnt the only thing she's good at, she doesn't fence, but a nice friendly boxing match is certainly easy to arrange.

USS Peregrine; Deck 4 - Sickbay – 0618

Chief Petty Officer Dana Cook stepped into the Sickbay aboard the USS Peregrine and glared around; anyone seeing her would know she was not in a good mood. They were getting a new Chief Medical Officer today and Dana was not happy about it. She had just started to get used to Doctor Moore, and they had gotten along well enough; more so than some of her other CMO's. Now suddenly there were all these changes, the Captain returning after being hauled off on charges that had him facing a court marshal. Cook was glad the Captain was coming back, she liked the man, even admired him for being willing to stand up for what he believed was right; you couldn't fault any man who did that, not in her book.

“ALL RIGHT YOU LAZY LOTS,” Dana barked out at the entire medical staff she had assembled, “we have the new CMO reporting today and I want this place tip-top when she gets here.” With her emphasize on the word 'New' it was obvious she hated yet another change in the medical department, but her job wasn't to question these types of assignments, at least not openly.

Chief Cook began to dole out assignments, checking the status of equipment, medbays, scanners, supply closet, etc. As the others bent to their jobs, Cook stood for a few moments and watched, then sighed as she watched them efficiently and effectively turn to tasks. They were some of the best staff she had worked with, but she wouldn't tell them that. She couldn't show that she was soft on them, she had to keep them sharp if they were to be an efficient team. They had been rather sloppy bunch when she had taken over the sickbay aboard this vessel, but she had whipped them into shape, figuratively rather than actually. While she might verbally berate them at times, she would never take it too far, and never physically. Not that she was against violence, but unnecessary violence was to be avoided. Never strike a subordinate, or a superior for that matter; she had learned her lesson when she was younger, never again was she going to risk her career for which she had fought hard.

Dana stood watching them for another moment, before nodding slightly and then went to her desk and sat down at her terminal. She began to call up the Medical staff records and went over them to assure everything was in order. Toriak was very efficient with his files and reports, but she gave them a once-over to ensure they were up to snuff for the new CMO. Thinking of a new officer in medical made her shake her head slightly; she hoped this Lt. Reine was a competent Doctor. Not that Dr. Moore hadn't been one, but Cook had dealt with all kinds in her past, some excellent, others made her wonder what they did at Starfleet Medical sometimes.

Cook pulled up the file on this Lt. Reine; she seemed good on paper, but time would tell how she handled her first crisis. She knew that small ships such as the Peregrine got lower ranking officers, and low rank usually meant low field experience. Well, hopefully their would be ample time to find out what kind of Doctor she was before anything 'hit the fan', but knowing this ship, it usually didn't stay quiet for long. Now that the Captain was back in the driver's seat, it probably wouldn't be long before they found some trouble.

Chief Cook sat back in her chair for a moment and watched her staff working hard to make sure everything was how it was supposed to be; she nodded her approval. Maybe some of them would see it and realize that she was pleased with their efforts; it was about all they had come to expect from her, and it was often good enough.

((Just a little something to get Cook started and hopefully on track.  Now awaiting the arrival of the new Doctor.   I dont know about the other new additions made to the Medical department, will let breebles or Olan determine that.  Once the final Medical Roster is set, Cook can work on making adjustments to the duty roster, if necessary. ))

I spoke to Olan and he said it would be ok if I played Chief Cook in medical.  I'll try to do a good job and not disappoint.  

I do have a couple of questions about what's going on:

The CMO will be a new arrival I take it?  Has she reported aboard already?  I didn't see a post yet regarding it.

The current events seem to be shortly after the last mission, correct?  

I look forward to rping with everyone and I'm sure that the new CMO and Cook will have a lot to talk about and collaborate on. 😏

Hello all.  Sorry for my sudden departure and for leaving any games hanging, but I'm sure my shoes were filled easily.

I've been reading some of the stories still going, and I'm enjoying what I see.  I don't know if I will be looking to play in anything at this time.  Still some turbulence going on my life right now, and I dont want to commit and have to leave again.   I think I'll just lurk around and maybe I will start a solo story, if the mood strikes me.
