Topic: Check interest in Free Form Game
Subject: TWO

OK that's 2 people.   Let's see how this goes.

Well, my personal favorite is a syfy setting, actually I am a big FireFly/Serenity fan, and I've seen that there have been a couple of games here that kind of fizzled, but it there is interest in that, I think I can come up with some good stories there.   Plus there would be no issues with OP powers or magic.  Sort of the whole western in space thing.

If people don't like that, I could work on a fantasy setting, though I don't have a whole world to work with just now.

Let me know what you think and waiting to see if more are interested?

Subject: Check interest in Free Form Game

Hey peeps, I'm checking to see if there is any interest in starting up a free form game.  Don't have to have a ton of players to start, maybe 3-4 would be nice.  I'm thinking a Syfy or fantasy adventure game.  I could be the 'story teller' or DM or whatever you want to call it.  I've got some ideas for the stories, I just need to know if there is anyone out here that wants to join in.  You would design and flesh out your own character, for the world/setting.  I would want you to be realistic and not have any OP characters of course; they would be subject to my review and approval.

So if anyone is interested, please post here and let me know what you think, and prefer for the setting.  Thanks!

Glad to see the air is still going.

Unfortunately, I'm not really a rules RPer, and D&D is a rules game as far as I know.  I don't know anytabout the rules and frankly, not interested in learning a bunch of rules.  I'm all for the RPing aspect. I love getting into the character and playing them, and not worrying about rules.  I wouldn't know the first thing about how to use the rules, especially during like combats and such.

I'll keep my eyes open for something free form I guess. ?

Hey people, I'm checking in again but this site seems dead now.  I keep hoping to RP here again, but nothing appears to be going on.

I'll keep my eyes open, and check back later.

I hope this place can be revived.  I want to play!!!

USS Peregrine; Deck 4 - Sickbay - 1900

Veen watched the tension leave Cook's shoulders and forehead. The anxiety had been replaced by relief. She had been very open with him, which was not really rare when people talked with him. But from what she had told him and how she had opened up on her terrible experience, Amris knew it had not been easy and he felt gratitude and honor for being worth of her trust.

"Chief... I had no idea." The Doc held her gaze, now slightly softer he imagined. "You have experienced something so very few of us ever have. Conversing with the Cairn, I am sure, must be quite unsettling for most people. Even for me, their way of communicating with visions takes some getting used to before I can feel comfortable with it. And being hit by a projection of the terrible moments he had gone through and especially unprepared... I can only imagine what it must have been like."

Cook remained silent, and her gaze was directed to the floor as if she had nothing to say at this time.

The smile was still on the handsome, bearded face as Amris continued. "Thank you for sharing this painful memory with me... Chief. I am honored by your trust in me and I want you to know that I do not mind, if you cannot completely trust me yet. That is quite natural. But I also want you to know that you can always, and I mean always, let me know if you do feel uncomfortable. And you can always come and have a chat with me even if you do not. We will be working together hopefully for a long time and getting to know you better would make me very happy."

Cook looked up then and offered a faint smile and a nod to the Doctor.  She felt that maybe things would work out, but she had been too optimist in the past and paid for it.  Only time would tell.

"And Chief, if it is ok with you, I would very much like you to call me Amris at least when we talk in private. I do respond to Doc, Doctor, Lt, black-eyed dude, hey you and various other names as well." The Doc chuckled slightly at his stupid attempt to lighten the mood.

One corner of her lips lifted into a small smirk, she knew he was trying help her move on from her memories and add a little levity to the situation.

"As you no doubt have noticed already, my former colleagues, especially Neiman and Peter, often use Amris in the Sickbay and definitely do so off-hours. During an operation I prefer Doc or doctor for clarity's sake, but outside any situation requiring my full concentration, that is not needed. But, I can also totally understand if you do not wish your relationship with your superior officer to be too casual. Your call of course."

“That’s a..” she began, then paused a moment before continuing, “.. nice of you Doctor, it’s just that I’m a creature of habit and I wouldn’t feel right in addressing you so, during work.  Now, while off duty, and in a a non work situation, I might just take you up on that.”

“So Doctor,” Cook said as she straightened herself and unconsciously adjusted her tunic, “if there isn’t anything else, I’ll go grab a bite to eat before turning in for the evening?”

The Doc looked at the schedule, thought about it for a while and nodded at his PADD before raising his eyes to meet Cook's. "Looks good, Chief. As everything seems to be clear to everyone, as expected of course, the Sickbay is yours."

Amris looked around the room at everyone present. "I will be in my office for a while longer before I head out for dinner. If you have any questions or anything you wish to say, do not hesitate to drop in."

“Ok people,” the Chief raised her voice enough for all to hear her clearly, “since I don’t hear any questions, I assume you are good with the schedule.  Adjust your routines, and get things in order and don’t be late for your shift.”

Turning away from the others, as most of them take a few moments to talk amongst themselves before filing out.  Cook hit her comm and spoke, “Chief Cook to PO Barrett,”

=^= Barrett here, Chief =^=

“There is an emergency situation pending, a new Sickbay schedule is now in efffect,” Cook said, “and you’re on the current shift.  Check your PADD for details, and report to Sickbay within 15 mins.”

=^= Understood, Chief.  I’ll be there in 5 =^=

Cook nodded as the channel closed.  She turned in time to watch the last of the medical personnel leave Sickbay.  She walked over to her station and began to run through the latest supplies inventory.  She was kind of looking forward to spending some time with PO Barrett; they hadn’t really interacted since the new personnel had come aboard.  She wasn’t exactly nervous, she didn’t get nervous about meeting new people, but since Barrett knew their new Doctor from their previously assignment, she was curious about how open the PO would be with her about the Doctor and the other new personnel.  Time would tell.

((OOC:  Raven, I figure you could RP those personnel that came with the Doctor, and I’ll keep my other personnel posts to the older medical personnel.  That’s not to say you can’t also RP any of the medical personnel, well all but Cook of course. . ))

Once dismissed, Amris gave the Captain and the XO a nod and headed out with his hand on his comms unit.

“Veen to Cook and Adama.”

=/= Cook here. =/=

=/= Adama here. Can I help you, Sir? =/=

“Chief. Mr. Adama. The Sickbay will be on Yellow Alert from now on. We will begin preparations for an emergency response and will change the rotation from 12 hours shifts to six hours for the next 73 hours. Chief, make sure the rotation is as efficient as possible with either you or myself as the backup for the nurse on duty. Minimum 12 hours of rest for everyone. Two nurses on duty at all times. Meet me in the Sickbay as soon as possible.”

USS Peregrine, Deck 4, Sick Bay - 1640

A few minutes later Lieutenant Veen, now fully in control of himself, stood outside the Sickbay door. He waits for the Chief to arrive and beckons her to enter.

Chief Cook came down the hallway with her PADD in hand; she nodded to the doctor as she continued past him and into Sickbay.

Amris took a deep breath, followed Cook inside and headed straight to Nurse Adama. He called in the staff members on duty with him as well. The Doc looked everyone in the eye, before speaking out.“The Captain has just briefed the senior officers about the situation on Calican II, or rather in its immediate vicinity.” The Doc cast a look at the clock on the wall while he considered his next words and fought down the emotion of despair of his own.

“In the next 73 hours all sentient life on Calican II will cease to exist. There is an asteroid called…”, Amris glanced at his pad. “2365 C41A3 DN17 heading straight at the planet. It is over 30 kilometres in diameter, so the impact will be an extinction level incident. Now, we all are very well aware of the Prime Directive. We cannot let the Calicans know of our presence and following the directive to the letter, it would indeed be forbidden for us to intervene. The General Order 1 clearly states, that the Starfleet is prohibited from helping a society escape a natural disaster known to the society, even if inaction would result in a society's extinction, unless the society had warp technology and had formally requested aid. Unfortunately the people of Calican II do not possess warp-level tech and as they are as of yet unaware of our presence, could not formally request aid anyway.”

The Doc sighed. “So according to the Prime Directive we cannot do anything… But the Captain is not willing to let the people on the planet perish. His plan is to find a solution that allows us to do both: save the Calicans without breaking the PD. So any ideas that could help us accomplish that are most welcome. My mind seems to be still in shock and I cannot think of anything useful on that department.”

Cook noticed the Doctor’s apprehension, and she wasn’t a Betazoid; that thought brought a faint smile as she remembered her conversation she had yesterday with the Doc about emotions and telepaths.  She had no such reservation about what the Captain planned to do; saving the lives of billions of people was the Right thing to do.  The Prime Directive made sense, but it was crazy to think that a bunch of aging Admirals, and leaders back on Earth could understand the decisions that had to be made out here.  Easy to sit at home and blindly decide the fate of other planets, without knowing the facts, and watching whole planets die when you could have done something to stop it.  She liked the Captain, and this was a good decision he was making regarding the fate of this world.

“The XO has asked us to prepare for quick response. I am therefore putting the Sickbay into Yellow Alert. While there is no combat to be expected, things may go wrong in many ways when we try to stop the asteroid from destroying Calican II. We need to be prepared for anything that may come down our way and we need to be as ready as possible until the alert is over. In roughly 72 hours we have either saved the planet or watched 7 billion people die. I would very much prefer the first option, PD or no PD.”

“Questions?”

Cook looked about and let any questions from other people be spoken before she would speak up.  She had no questions, but actions to put into place.

“Okay,” Cook began as she addressed everyone, “the Doctor has declared a Medical Emergency Alert.  We have done this before, and so all I had to do was replace some of the staff names with the new personnel.  We will be working four 6 hour shifts per day; and since we only have 4 nurses, other than myself, it won’t be a difficult schedule to remember.  The Doc and I will be the working 12 hr shifts along with the nurse on duty.  As always, be aware that everyone will be on-call, if an emergency does occur.”

She lifted her PADD and made a few taps and then with a swipe on the screen, she continued.

“I have just sent you the schedule,” she said as she watched them all refer to their own devices, “I will notify those not currently present of their assignment.  The lab personnel will remain on their normal schedules, unless an event occurs that requires their assistant.  PO Barrett will begin watch immediately on the Charlie Shift; alongside of me.”

“All yours Doctor,” Cook finished as she turned to Lt. Veen, in case he had anything to add to her orders.
“If anyone has any issues,” She said after giving them time to look at the simple schedule, “let me know.  For now, be alert and be ready.  Make sure all trauma supplies are ready for immediate use.  Let’s hope for the best, that our services won’t be needed, but be prepared in case they are required”

Stardate 2365.05.14

USS Peregrine; Deck 4 - Sickbay - 18:50 – 19:00

Chief Dana Cook walked into Sickbay at her usual 10 mins prior to the start of her shift, and paused in place.  The new CMO was walking about the sickbay looking at everything as if appraising the readiness of the Medical equipment.

Look all you want, you will not find anything out of place. She thought as she continued into the room; her pride in the efficiency and training of her medical staff was shown in the rising of her shoulders slightly.  If anything were out of place, she knew it would be the newly arrived staff.  She had instructed them on what she expected of them in regards to the Sick Bay and staff's readiness, but thus far they had proven themselves just as reliable as the old staff.

“Evening Doctor,” Cook said as she walked in and approached her workstation.

Amris looked up from the scanner and smiled to the Chief. He had felt her approach a moment earlier, but sensing her irritation, he had kept his eyes on the devices. “Good evening, Chief.” Waving with his arm around to indicate all the equipment around the room. “I was just admiring the impeccable state of everything. I was not expecting anything less of course… To be honest, I am actually fairly hungry and was simply biding my time until the end of my shift.”

Logging into her station, she looked over the day’s medical log of patients and saw that it had been mostly minor injuries, and such. Her eyebrows narrowed as she saw the appointment of one crewmember with the Doctor for a ‘consoling’ session.  Her eyes darted up to glance at the Doctor then quickly back to her screen.  She wondered if his sessions consisted of his probing the patients mind; though that might help in the treatment, if given voluntarily, but she suspected that Betazoids often did it without permissions.  This was the reason she was uncomfortable with the new Doctor; he seems a decent fellow so far, but she had a distrust of people who could read your thoughts.  She took her privacy, especially her thoughts, very seriously.

“Any instructions,” she spoke up and said to him, “or anything I should be aware of before you leave?”

Her tone might give it away; but she seems anxious to have him gone from sickbay.

Dana had not really interacted much with the new Doctor, only seeing each other at meetings or shift changes, since he came aboard.  Her behavior at their first meeting was not the warmest; she had not wanted a new CMO, she did not want to lose Dr. Reine, and then she had learned the new Doc would be a Betazoid.  She did not like that one bit.

Their first meeting had been professional and punctual, and she no doubt knew the Doc could not miss her stiff demeanor when talking with him.  They had not discussed the ‘issues’ yet, but Dana knew that the Doc could not put it off for much longer.  He was not blind, even without his ‘abilities’, and if he had even once ‘scanned’ her emotions, he would know that he had a problem with his Head Nurse.  A personal problem.

The Doc smiled again and nodded to Dana. “Well not instructions as such, but I did actually wish to speak with you.” Amris beckoned her to sit down and pulled a chair for himself as well. He wasn’t sure how the human would react if he looked her straight in the eye as some of her people were not comfortable with direct eye-to-eye contact. He decided not to test her preference and only briefly glanced at Dana’s face before speaking out.

Dana seemed taken aback with the doctor’s desire to sit and talk with her, but she shrugged slightly and pulled her chair from her workstation around to face the doctor, then she sat.  Looking at him she didn’t need to be a telepath to read some sense of unease in his current appearance.  She raised an eyebrow and wondered if they were finally going to get to the crux of the problems between them.  It was about time she figured.

“Chief… and I say this with total understanding and with absolutely zero judgement… I am aware of your… discomfort with my… abilities and I want you to know, that you are by no means alone. And that is perfectly ok.” The Doc raised his hand to stop any comment the Chief may or may not have had on her mind. “I would very much like to put your mind at ease as much as possible. Now, I do not expect you to trust me completely right away after you have heard what I have to say. But I hope in time, you and everyone in the Sickbay and on board can learn to be at ease in my presence.”

The corner of Cook’s mouth lifted slightly when he raised a hand to forestall any response just yet.  She hadn’t be thinking of making one just now; she preferred to hear what people said and gather her words into a coherent reply before giving them.  She continued to listen with interest.

The Doc took a deep breath, smiled again and continued. “As you very well know, my people have the ability to sense emotions and even thoughts of other people. What you perhaps are not aware of is, that not all of us are on the same… well, level, in our abilities. Most Betazoids can sense strong feelings, but only a small number of us are actually telepathic. My empathic ability allows me to feel your joy, your sadness and your irritation.”

Another smile, just as genuine as the previous ones, appeared on doctor Veen’s face. “While it is possible for me to block, in the absence of a better word, the feelings of people around me, it is tiring in the long run. I do not know if you are aware, but emotions are actually quite strong and easy for my people to sense even across distances.  In that sense, as your feelings are.. well, outside of you in a way, my empathy is not breaching your personal immunity.”

The Chief was considering this as he spoke, and while she knew the Betazoids all sensed emotions; she guessed she could agree about them sensing those feelings, and it not being an invasion of Privacy.  After all, most humans carried their emotions outside anyway.  Once could look at someone who was happy, or sad, or irritated, and usually see it in his or her posture, or face.  That wasn’t what concerned her though and she guessed that the Doctor was getting to the part where she felt some anxiety.

Letting it sink in, Amris continued: “Telepathy on the other hand… Reading someone’s thoughts… That is definitely a violation. Yes, I am among the few who have the ability to communicate telepathically. And no, I am not allowed and would never do it without another person’s consent, unless it would be ordered by my superior and it would be the only way to stop something terrible from taking place. And even then I would be forbidden to read the thoughts separate from the purpose of the reading.”

“The Betazoid actually have a thing called the Code of Sentience. It is not exactly a law, but in fact something far beyond any legislation. The main idea of the Code is that reading the mind of another being without permission is taboo and that we must respect all sentient life as sacred.”

At that moment the Doc turned his eyes to his hands and shook his head before looking the Chief right in the eye. “So, Chief. Even if I for some reason I cannot even fathom, would want to enter your mind. I could not. It would be the worst thing I could do to a person, apart from taking a life.”

Amris raised his arms slightly from his lap and beckoned to Chief Cook with open palms facing up. “But please, Chief. I have talked for a long while denying you a chance to comment. Go ahead and ask me anything. Permission to speak freely.”

Chief Cook returned the gaze into those dark eyes and didn’t flinch or shy away from them.  She could understand how some might see such things as intimidating, or fearful, but she had seen far worse.  Lifting her head slightly as she composed her thoughts, she let out a slow sigh before she began.

“Doctor, I just want you to know that my .. feelings towards you are not personal,” She began slowly, “I know most of what you have just told me about your people and their abilities.  I already knew much already about Betazoids, and when I learned you were coming aboard, I made it my mission to learn all that I could, especially regarding your telepathic abilities. I will admit that I have been suffering some unwarranted anxiety about you.  But I have a reason for that, though it isn’t really an excuse for my behavior.”

She paused and seemed to be gathering some courage before continuing.

“Back when I was stationed aboard the Aries,” she began, as her eyes became unfocused as she thought back to that time, “we recovered an injured man aboard a disabled shuttlecraft.   He was a Cairn, and as you are probably aware, they have don’t really have a spoken language, but communicate entirely by telepathy, and then mostly in images.  They consider it a more efficient form of communication.  He was unconscious when brought aboard, and I was treating his injuries, which weren’t too serious.  When he came to, he naturally attempted to tell me what had happened by projecting images of an attack upon his shuttle.  The sudden intrusion into my mind, of images so real, and not my own, were a severe shock to my mind.”

She paused and took a deep breath as her eyes refocused on the Doctor.

“He didn’t intend any harm,” Cook continued, “but harm was done.  My mind had never experienced anything like it, and it was difficult to separate those images and sensations from my own memories. It was as if it had all happened to me.”

“Since that day,” her eyes dropped for the first time, a look of .. what? … embarrassment maybe, “I’ve found it hard to trust being around any species which can get into my mind.”

“I know it’s not your fault, Doctor,” she said as she raised her eyes back to meet his, “and I know my fears may seem ridiculous, but they are buried deep within my mind.  However, I promise I will make every effort to get past these irrational fears, and learn to trust you and work efficiently with you, as you deserve."

The Chief's shoulders visibly relaxed as she got the reasons for her mistrust about the Doctor off her chest. She just hoped that they could work together, and she could made progress in getting over her fears of telepaths; or at least this telepath.

Topic: The Coming of Shadows
Subject: Who is the prey?

The snap of a branch was the only sound, as the large creature leaped through the air with it’s talon’s extended for the kill.  The 10 cm long bringers of death found nothing but empty air, as their target had skillfully avoided the deadly blow.  The cat like creature, landed and whirled around in search of the prey that had eluded it.  The ‘great cat’ was similar to he leopards of Earth, but it was twice it’s size and mass, and had six legs instead of four.  It’s had scales in place of fur, and it’s long tail ended in a barb which dripped with venom.  The head was longer than expected; ending in a long snout filled with two rows of long fangs.  It’s yellow eyes scanned the place where the figure had stood just a moment ago; it saw nothing.

The creature’s small brain tried to comprehend how it’s target had not only avoided it’s attack, but had apparently escaped the area. It screeching roar sounded through the forest as it suddenly felt a sharp slashing pain along it’s side.  It tried to turn towards that threat, but found two of it’s right legs were severed at the upper joint.  The creature collapsed to the ground; unable to understand what was happening.  It raised it’s head to look about for it’s attacker, but only exposed it’s neck to the killing blow which opened up it’s throat letting it’s life flow out onto the soft grass covering the forest floor.   As the beast’s thrashing came to an end; a dark shape took form as if it had melded out of the dark shadows of the night.

“Proc, Identify.”  Sgt. Aayla Anoon subvocalized as she looked down at the dead creature at it’s feet.

The processor buried in her chest utilized the suit sensors and positively identified it as a Tarn, a carnivore native of Cartenia IV.

She shook her head slightly as she lifted the 30cm long blade which had ended the creatures life.  The blade was made of meteor steel and honed to a fine edge, making it one of the sharpest blade know to exist.  She glanced at the edge which glowed faintly, as a monofilament of single atoms moved along that edge, making it sharp enough to cut through almost anything.  With a flip of her thumb, the glow vanished and she returned the blade to it’s stealth on her right thigh.

The creatures here didn’t know that, even it they killed her, they would not like what they found when they tried to consume her.  The protein differences of living beings and creatures, between this planet and those of Earth, were enough that one could not digest the other.  It that Tarn had managed to kill and eat her, that inability to digest her would have caused it to die in horrible agony.  But just because the creatures were too stupid to know that, didn’t mean they couldn’t kill you.

“Proc, scan for life forms and display,” she subvocalized again.  Her processor didn’t need her to speak the commands, she could simply subvocalize anything she needed it to do.  It technically wasn’t necessary while in her armor, as her words wouldn’t be heard outside the suit unless she wished it, but it was her accustomed method so she stuck to it.

Her HUD showed her a 360 scan of the area and highlighted the recognized life forms around her.  She didn’t see anything large that might pose a serious threat; nothing like the Tarn which she had detected moments prior to it’s attack.  Knowing it’s location, it had been simple to avoid the creatures attack.  She had simply dodged it’s aerial leap, and then activated her suit’s cloak and blended into the shadows.  It had been simple then to move close enough to the confused beast to disable, then kill it quickly.

A quick check of the map in her HUD, and Sgt. Anoon stuck out once again towards her target.  She still had over a hundred klicks to go before she was there, then her mission could begin.

Subject: The Coming of Shadows

Cartenia IV was a lively green planet, with vast oceans, and large tracks of fertile land.  That land contained some of the most exotic life forms seen by humans.  But humans were not native on this world; the dominate sentient species were reptilian in nature.  Perhaps the extinction level event that had shaped the course of Earth, did not happen here.  Maybe the dinosaurs had evolved and became the rulers of this green vibrant world; who could say.

That species was locally known as the Bravii, and they were a space-faring race that warred on the other inhabited worlds in their local area of space.  They were a blood thirsty savage race that were experiencing a time of expansion, and they conquered their world and were not expanding out into the stars.  They had been very successful with several worlds of lesser technological advancement.

The Bravii mostly preyed on worlds where they knew they had the advantage in ships and weapons; some of the conquered worlds didn’t even have space travel yet.  Those worlds were devastated by the brief war, and the survivors were now slaves of the Bravii.  Forced to live a life of toil and hardship, the people of those worlds were being used to strip their planet of any resource that could be used by their usurpers.  The natives were dying by the thousands on a daily basis, and by the time the natural resources were depleted, the inhabitants would dead and the planet would be another dead world destroyed by the Bravii.

Other worlds had taken notice of this disturbing series of events; planets as advanced as the destroyers of worlds.  There had been much talk of what to do about this path of destruction, before it reached beyond this local area of space.  Strategies had been discussed, plans analyzed, and finally, decisions made.  Something had to be done to stop the advance of destruction, before it reached the worlds that were not to be touched.

The sky over Cartenia IV was dark and filled with stars; the air was crisp and still and the only sounds that could be heard were those of the native nocturnal creatures that roamed the lush land.  Suddenly the serene quiet was disturbed by a booming sound coming from the sky.  Those creatures on the prowl were startled by the loud noise; many fled in all directions to avoid the unknown source.

A burning brand of fiery light streaked across the night sky; if any sentient creature observed it, they might think it was just a meteor, but it was more than that.   If one could look closely at the heart of the fiery ‘meteor’, they would see a oval shape that was blackened by the heat of it’s speedy atmospheric entry.  As it descended deeper into the thickening air, the heat seemed to burn away parts of it’s shape, which fell behind and burned up by the fiery tale.

As the pieces flaked off, more and more of the shape took form; until a vaguely humanoid shape was visible.  Once the form reached the lower atmosphere, at about the 5,000 meters, it had slowed enough that the fire enveloping it began to dissipate.  Arms were throw out to the sides and the remaining part of the ablative layer was thrown off to show the armored human form as it continued to descend.

A small box like shape separated from the back of the form, and took up a position about 5 meters above it.  The box glowed as the anti-grav chute took hold in the planet’s gravitational field and slowed the armored form even further.  With subtle hand movements, the figure controlled it’s movement to steer it around a mountain range in it’s path.  Coming around the mountain it continued on towards an area of dark forest as it continued to slow.  It swooped low, just above the treetops, until it located the spot that had been chosen.  Then with a quick upward movement to slow it’s speed quickly, the box darkened once more and then quickly returned to the figures back.  The speed stalled and with it’s feet now pointed at the ground, the figure dropped the final 50 meters where it plunged through the forest canopy and dropped to the ground, landing in a crouch to absorb the last of it force from it’s fall.

The figure straightened to it’s full height, of about 2 meters, and looked around at it’s drop zone.  The armor was a mottled gray with black splotches from the carbon deposits from the reentry. It was human in form, with a black helmet the front of which was a black visor which showed nothing of the occupants face.  It surveyed it’s surroundings for a few moments, before reaching over a shoulder where it pulled a large rifle looking object and held it at the ready.  This done, the armored figure moved off into the dark forest towards it’s destination.

Stardate 2365.05.14

USS Peregrine; Deck 4 - Sickbay - 18:50

Chief Dana Cook walked into Sickbay at her usual 10 mins prior to the start of her shift, and paused in place.  The new CMO was walking about the sickbay looking at everything as if appraising the readiness of the Medical equipment.

Look all you want, you will not find anything out of place. She thought as she continued into the room; her pride in the efficiency and training of her medical staff was shown in the rising of her shoulders slightly.  If anything were out of place, she knew it would be the newly arrived staff.  She had instructed them on what she expected of them in regards to the Sick Bay and staff's readiness, but thus far they had proven themselves just at reliable as the old staff.

“Evening Doctor,” Cook said as she walked in and approached her workstation.

((Response, if any))

((OOC: Whenever you can Raven, I know you have to prepare a post for the Senior Staff Meeting. No Rush. ))

Stardate: 2365.05.15 (Saturday)

USS Peregrine, Deck 4 – Sick Bay – 1505

“Petty Officer Adama,” Cook said sharply as she walked briskly into the Main Sick Bay area.

Adama jumped at the sudden unexpected interruption, and rose to his feet.  He had been staring into monitor for one of the microscopes, and had not noticed the entrance of the Head Nurse.  His mind had been focused on his studies, where he was examining the difference of cells between human and Andorian.  He was fascinated in the cell structures, especially in the pigments causing the major color differences between the two species.

“Chief Cook,” Adama responded after composing himself again.

Cook noticed his state of agitation as she stopped before him; she sighed slightly and her rigid posture relaxed.

“Forgive me, Peter,” Dana said as she glanced to the monitor he had rose from and seeing what was presented there, “I don’t mean to interrupt your studies”

She knew that PO Peter Adama, had high hopes of returning to Starfleet Medical and completing his education and coming out a Doctor.  She had no illusions of that herself, she was happy with where she was in her career, and while she increased her knowledge of medicine, she did not want any further responsibilities.  If she were any more responsible for people’s lives than she already was, she did not know if she could bear the guilt of losing any more crewmembers.

“That’s alright Chief,” Peter responded, “nothing I can’t pick back up later.  Is there anything I can help you with?”   He knew she had been spending a lot of her free time her in sick bay, even if she just read or studied on one of the monitors.

“No, Peter,” Dana said softly as she grimaced slightly as she twisted her upper body a little to the right, “seems I strained a little muscle in my workout this morning.  I thought I might get a little Asinolyathin to help the pain.”  Asinolyathin was a mild analgesic commonly used to relieve minor muscle spasms and pain.

“Oh, alright,” Adama said and gestured towards the table where the common medications were kept along with the hyposprays, “you want me to grab it for you?”

“No,” she said with a faint smile, “I think I can manage it, Thank you!”

“I also wanted to check up on what is going on here,” Cook continued and looked around seeing the empty med beds, “looks quiet.”

“Yes, nothing all day,’ Peter said with a shrug as he followed her gaze, “but I don’t mind, lets me catch up on some studying.”

“I heard that we have arrived in the Calican system where I mission has directed us,” Dana said, “I don’t know what our mission is here, as they have not informed me, but make sure everything is ready in case we have any emergencies while here.”

“We’re ready Chief,” Adama said, “always are, as you require.”  He smirked a little, and saw her lips curl up into a slight smile.  They both knew how the Chief required things to be orderly and in their right place.  No time would be wasted during an emergency in searching for anything that was not where you needed it.  It had been drilled into the medical staff; at least the older staff.  So far, the new people had not been any trouble, but he hoped none of them got on the Chief’s bad side in questioning how she liked ‘her’ Sickbay.

“Good, glad to hear it,” Dana answered as she turned and approached the table where the hypos and common medicines were kept.  Grabbing a hypo, she examined the vials there, picked up one, and inserted it; she set the dosage and pressed the hypo to her own neck.  Some tension in her posture was eased as the pain in her back muscle was relieved. She glanced down at the vial as she removed it from the hypo and turned to Adama.

“This is low,” She said as she took the vial with her over to the medical supply room, “I’ll get a replacement.” Saying this she entered the door as it opened before her.

Adama did not respond, he only nodded to himself and sat back down at his monitor and continued in his studies as he had been doing before the Chief’s arrival.

Stepping into the room where supplies and medicines were safety stored, Dana looked around at the secure racks holding vials that served to protect them against damage in the case of violent ship maneuvers.

Dana looked over the vials and removed a replacement vial for the Asinolyathin, she glanced at the used vial, where it still had over half of its contents yet to be dispensed.  Taking a glance towards the closed door to the Main room, she turned and threw that vial in a disposal unit.  Then she reached out and quickly grabbed another vial from the racks; glancing at the label and seeing the word “Felicium”, she slipped it into her pocket before leaving storage.

PO Adama looked up at the Chief as she walked out of storage, walked over to the medicine table where she slipped a new vial of the Asinolyathin into its place.  She ran the hypospray through a sterilization field on the table, before returning it to its place.  She turned and looked at the PO before heading for the door.

“Well,” Dana spoke to Adama as she walked towards the door, “Carry on, PO, If anything comes up, call me immediately.”

“Yes Chief,” was his reply as she walked out the open door and it closed behind her.

Stardate: 2365.05.15 (Saturday)

USS Peregrine, Deck 5 - Gymnasium - 1225 - 1409

Dana had risen early after getting a few hours of much-needed sleep.  She then grabbed a quick protein drink in the mess, before heading straight to the Gym for her workout.

She found the gym mostly empty at this hour, with only a couple people working out with weights.  They looked like security personnel to her; she had seem them here a lot, but when she worked out she often did not talk to anyone, or they did not talk to her.

Dana grabbed a towel, and started out on a treadmill; starting slowly to warm up for a few minutes, then increasing her speed until she was running at a brisk pace.  She had her PADD resting on the treadmill control panel, where she could read while she ran.  Often, like today, she read medical journals dealing with new medications, and new treatments in xenobiology.  Human treatments and anatomy was very familiar to her, so she spent a lot of time learning about the anatomy and treatments suitable for all of the other non-human species.  There was not much new on human as their anatomy has been known for centuries, but alien species are a big part of the Federation and she was constantly learning more every day it seemed.

After running her usual 10k, she went into a cool down period for a few minutes until eventually she turned off the treadmill.  Grabbing her towel, she wiped herself off as she made her way over to her gym bag and sat on a nearby bench.  After a few minutes of cooling down, she pulled out a roll of white tape and began to wrap it around her hands and wrists.  Her wrapping completed, she put the tape back into her bag, and pulled out a bottle of water and downed about half of it before rising and heading over to the Heavy Bag in a corner.

Dana spent the next 20 mins working on her combinations and jabs on the bag.  The Gym had gained a few more participants over the time she had been here.  However, it being the middle of the workday, and them coming up on a mission soon, there were not many here today.  She usually ignored the other people in the gym.  A couple of men were working on the weights, and glancing over at the Head Nurse of the ship.  While she seemed to be doing her best to destroy the Heavy bag, as rivulets of sweat ran down her body.

She finished with a barrage of heavy blows, before stopping suddenly and almost collapsing before hanging onto the bag to keep her feet.  She breathed heavily for a good minute, before she straightened and walked over to her bag, where she collapsed to sit on the bench.  Dragging her water bottle from her bag with arms that seemed barely able to lift it to her lips, where she drank deeply.

After a few minutes of rest, she got to her feet, draped the bag over her shoulder she left the gym headed for her quarters and a hot shower.  Afterwards she planned to head over to the Aerie and see about having a late lunch; she wondered if she might run into that Caitian Lieutenant there.  Not having any real friends left after the losses and the departure of PO Crane, Dana would not mind talking to someone now and then, though she was not sure what she could talk about to anyone.

Ok, thanks!  I just wanted to clear that up for shift purposes.

I've made errors in my past post, thinking it was the wrong day.  I'm going to ignore those, and hope everyone else does as well.

I'll go on from there with it being Saturday.  Thanks for the clarification.

Onward noble steed!

Ok, I know this doesn’t matter for the mission, but for duty roster purposes, I had asked previously if the 15th was a Friday, and that was confirmed by Eol.

But I see Brom stating in his time date stamp that the 15th is Saturday.

So, which is correct please?   Thank you!

USS Peregrine, Deck 3 - Chief Cook’s Quarters - 00:55

Dana entered the living area of her quarters and looked about at the stark furnishings.  She had yet to be assigned a new room mate to share these quarters, so the other bedroom remained empty.  She had not brought much with her since returning to the ship; there were no pictures, or other knickknacks adorning the room.  She had no desire for such things right now.

She went to a cabinet in the central living area, and opening it withdrew a heavy tumbler glass and a bottle of bourbon.  She pour herself a hefty double and tossed it back quickly.  Inhaling sharply as the strong whiskey burned it’s way down her throat.  She pour another large draught as she walked over and  collapsed into the couch.  She sat the bottle on the table in front of her, for she was sure to need it again soon.

Dana sipped on the second glass and savored it; she looked at the glass of amber liquid and realized that she was drinking more than usual.  Or more than she had previous to the Incident. She knew that she drank too much, but it helped to calm her nerves and helped her sleep and avoid the horrible nightmares that plagued her sleep.

She knew it was about 0100hrs, and that she had to work her shift tonight starting at 1900hrs.  She would be ready for it; she had never let her drinking interfere with her work, and she wasn’t about to start now.

Dana rose from the couch as she took another sip and stepped in front of the oval mirror which adorned one of the walls in the shared living area.  She hadn’t brought it, but it had come with the place.  She looked at the right side of her face; at the ugly scar that ran down her cheek from the outer corner of her eye to her jawline.  If she were a vain person she would probably get it repaired, but she wanted it where it was for now.  It was a mark to remind her of her helplessness to stop the death that had befell her staff and crew.

She downed the rest of her glass as she turned away and returned to the table, where she poured another hefty dose of her self-medication.  With slow deliberate movements, she placed the stopper back in the bottle and returned it to the cabinet.  Returning to the couch, Dana sat and slowly sipped on her drink.  She let her mind relax, in an attempt to clear it before she would try and get a restful night’s sleep.  She silently prayed that she would be successful tonight, and her sleep would remain peaceful, for just one night.
