Subject: The calls were so bad . . .

At one point I was just like, "Yeah, sure, you're all going to die. And you know what? You deserve it."

Only really one person that did the best they could and made all the best choices they knew how to in the moment and that person got the +25 flanking bonus they deserved in the end.

Oh, if we aren't spoiling stuff until Wednesday, there was also that one person with the eye-pokey thing that was severely done with everyone shit and went out like the goddamn bad ass they always were.

Man, what a show!

*enter breebles, with the rain for this parade*

It was super alright.

The pacing, like Infinity War, was done really, really well. It did not feel like a 3 hour movie.
The scene where all of the Strange portals open up and the recovered armies come barrelling through is so satisfying.
Rescue's suit was dope.
The WOMEN ASSEMBLE moment with all the ladies backed up Captain Marvel was bad ass .

Hawkeye's path after the snap was interesting--if not random AF. I understand if he took that path in the comics, but there was no build up to that in the MCU. Per the movies he lost his fam, got a haircut and I guess decided to take down drug lords? I dunno.

Black Widow! Man, that one hit me harder than I had expected. Her and Hawkeye's fight to throw themselves off the cliff was so oddly sweet and sad. Man, that one was difficult.

They, re-fought? Thanos? This could be in part because of my ever-growing cynicism toward time travel in stories, but I didn't care about this Thanos. He hadsn't had the development or anything that old gardener Thanos at the beginning of the movie had. He was strangely more powerful than 4-stoned Thanos though, so that was interesting.

So, Steve went back and lived out his days with Peggy? Had she just pretended the entire time with young Steve then in the movies whenever he came to visit? Did she found S.H.E.I.L.D. and just never mention Captain America was still alive? I did like Captain Falcon and all, but time travel, man, I am disliking it more and more.

Captain Marvel. What a nuke. She frustrates me because I've liked Larson in the past, and Captain Marvel is pretty cool, but I feel like Marvel is just dropping the ball with this character. Maybe because she's too much like Superman? Wherein she's so overpowered she's boring? So they take her out of the game until the very end to help them with the hail mary?

These guys explain my thoughts and feelings pretty well (it's about 35 minutes but they're pretty entertaining and I generally appreciate their analyses):

Half in the Bag: Avengers Endgame

And, of course, Tony.

"I am Iron Man"

His moment was so great. I really really reeeeally wish he didn't have to die. There's still so much potential for his character and everything. They could have even let him go out to continue living in the woods and pass on the mantle to Riri Williams. I understand the symbolism of the franchise beginning and ending with him, but it was still such a bummer to kill him off. Siiiigh, beautiful and sad.

I echo Tann's sentiments, I'm going to miss these people. We've been with them for so long. I hope the new group takes their time in building themselves up and all, and I'm hopeful for their future, but yeah, reeeeeally going to miss our OGs.

Lol I thought that maaaaybe you were joking, but it's getting real! And who knows what's going to happen?!

Also, I wanted to edit an earlier comment I made about Jon: he can ride the dragons because he's a Targaryen, but not all Targs are fireproof, so I'm retconning my proof-of-Targaryen-ness via fire immunity. HOWEVER, it would be dope if Dany tried to kill Jon by having one of her dragons spit fire on him and him walking out of the flames butt-naked like, "There's a new bish in town!"

But does Brandon care about taking the Iron Throne?

Who even is Bran anymore? He's said multiple times in the last two episodes that he's not Brandon Stark. Regardless, whoever he is he doesn't seem to care about ruling the 7 kingdoms. What would his motivation be? What is his motivation in general? I think he just wants to stop the white walkers, but it's difficult to say.

Subject: In response to Tann

pretty much have thought about and agree with most of your predictions Tann, so I'll just write about the ones in which I diverge:

First and foremost, I didn't realize this until someone pointed it out yesterday, but are the women and children and all the vulnerable people safe in the crypts? How does the Night King raise the dead? Is this a touch spell? What are the limits to his powers? I've seen that if a White Walker takes a living person down, they can rise as one of the Night King's army, what effect is there on the dead? How many dead are in the crypts?

I mean, if the White Walkers get to the crypts, those people are done anyway, but if the Night King has any sort of range on his #RaiseDead magic, they're also done.

"Brandon, and Sam Tulley, survive. Why: they are the only two who can confirm Jon is actually Aegon Targaryen."

I agree that they're the only ones who can confirm, but Jon can ride a dragon, and he should be immune to fire. So despite Bran and Sam likely living due to their +1 Plot Armor, Jon could build a case in his defense as well. I'd say Bran is probably more safe because of everything going on with him, Sam I'm not too sure about. It could really go either way. His death would be brutal to Jon.

"Arya Stark, dies. Why: One of the Starks has to die to make the episode that much more intense and as the last season and considering how many fans love her it makes sense. Her dying will be one of the most heart wrenching scenes of the series not since the red wedding."

I have issue with this just because HOW DARE YOU?! It's mostly just me being a lifelong Stark fan and really really really not wanting to lose any of them. The thought of her dying and rising to fight against them is just devestating. So no real reason she couldn't fall other than I super don't want her to. Plus, I know it'll likely be Jaime to kill Cersei, putting a nice cyclical bow on his storyline, but Cersei has been on Arya's list for so long, I'd be cool with her killing Cersei too.

"Jaime, and Tyrion, both live. Why: Makes no sense to kill them in battle as Bronn is hunting them and the rest of the show will concentrate on Cersi and her army. Tyrion will die later in the episodes to come. Jaime survives up till the last episode and will come full circle killing Cersi and himself, thus removing the Lannister line from the 7 kingdoms."

Just because I'm about 60-40 in favor of Tyrion living through it all, just to spite his shit family. Still not feeling too confident about that, but I'm leaning in his favor.

"Grey Worm, Podrick, Beric (one eyed), Jorah all die. Why: Podrick will die saving Brienne, Grey Wolf at the head of the unsullied, Beric as its his time. He came to fight the Night King and will die helping to defeat him. Jorah will die somehow defending Daenerys though not sure how he does so."

Jorah I've been waiting to die since season 1. Grey Worm basically told Missandei he only had 2 more weeks until retirement.
But I hadn't. Even. Thought about Podrick, who's now a bad ass, giving his life for Sir Bri Bri. And now I'm crying AND writing about GoT at work. ;_____;

"Eddison, and Tormund, live. Why: Need some beloved characters to die in the final battle against Cersi. Plus makes for a good fun three way drama between Brienne, Jaime, and Tormund in the remaining episodes."

Tormund will live and keep Sir Brienne company as she grieves over Jaime and Pod.

"Strange Possibilty: Melisandre shows up bringing or giving some kind of help in defeating the Night King; Her character is still listed as a main character so she has to show up soon."

I was wondering when she'd pop back in. This seems like a good place.

Just a sidenote I don't want to come true: We're all assuming Cersei is going to die, which makes me second-guess that because this show has done me a lot of psychic damage, and Cersei living would be completely on brand as far as that goes.

Those are my thoughts, and most of my disagreements are emotional regurgitations, though really it's so up in the air. I have no idea. I just feel like the thousands of us watching across the world are going to be doing a lot of weeping together this Sunday.

Best of luck!

Subject: Favorite Parts of S8 E1

I'm going to try not to just recap the episode because despite the relative lack of action, I truly enjoyed most of it.

The dragons staring at Jon while he made out with their mom was pretty hilarious.

I really liked the Arya/Jon reunion, for a couple reasons: one, Arya's been trying to find Jon for so long. He meant so much to her when they were growing up, and she had gotten so close before, that it was a really great moment; and two, I like the tension that came out of that moment--Arya sticking up for her family (which on another level is so wonderful because she and Sansa had been at such odds in the beginning) and basically letting Jon know that he should evaluate where his alliances are. And now that I'm thinking about it, Sansa and Arya both sort of had a Family > Everything chat with Jon, but now he knows he's a Targaryon. So will that further solidify his standing with Auntie Girlfriend Danaerys? Will his being the "true" Targaryon heir put him in contention with Dany? Will it affect his ties with the Starks (he's half Stark, so I'm not too worried about his feelings toward them?).

That scene brought up a lot of things I cared about so I really liked it.

Theon rescuing his sister and them teaming up? Top!

Sam's scenes. Excellent.

I was going to bring up Sansa's interaction with Tyrion and how it showed her growth as a person even more, but really I liked most of the scenes with her a lot. It could be because I used to despise her and now I'm just, ya know, so proud and happy about who she's become lol

Bran just popping up everywhere and scaring the shit out of people was priceless--and yeah that includes the end with Jaime.

Ginger Viking shouting, "MY EYES ARE ALWAYS BLUE"

I don't know, I think I'm just excited the show is back haha, but those are the bits that really stood out to me.

Tann, there's been so much build up for Arya wanting to kill Cersei. If Cersei kills Arya, I don't know what I'll do. Everything will burn! *goes super saiyan Dany*

But that IS an interesting take. I haven't given any thought to Cersei winning. But, "when you play the game of thrones, you either win, or you die", and Cersei has certainly played it hard.

Man, there was so much on that first episode, I'm not sure we've even discussed how creepy super sneaky Bran was the entire episode, or how-holy damn yes-Theon rescued his sister and they team up (), or if we think Cersei is playing the weirdo pirate rockstar, or if she's actually into this gross "imma put a baybeh in ya" dude.

Ah! So much!

Topic: Game of Thrones S8 *SPOILERS*
Subject: Mother of Braggin's

If Dany didn't have her dragons, she'd be nuthin', a nobody. She's not incredibly strategic (which is generally fine because you have advisors for that), and while sticking to your guns is usually a decent trait, showing mercy is also cool at times. Dany, however, is really just a one-note character: "BURN BURN BURN MY DAD WAS ON THE THRONE, IT'S MINE. Oh, you don't agree with everything I think and say? TELL IT TO MAH BIG BOIS."

It is just my opinion, I think she's become really cocky because she has her dragons to back her, and too ruthless a ruler for me. I do think some of my opinion is based on some of the writing. Like when (I think it was) Sansa asked Dany in the first episode of this season what her dragons eat, and Dany turns to her and just goes, "Whatever they want."

Okay Dany, yeah, we know, are they going to eat the good guys are not? You know that's what we mean, stop trying to be cool. You have dragons and are immune to fire, we get it, you're a bad ass.

Obviously, again, this is heavily just my opinion of how her character has progressed, and it's really just with the last couple seasons. She freed Meereen, but didn't prove herself to be a very good ruler. She burned Sam's pops and bro--they didn't bend the knee, but even Tyrion tries to persuade her to at least send them to the wall (which is why I wouldn't really mind Tyrion on the throne, though he is a Lannister). Dany just leans on her dragons for everything. Can't really blame her, because that's cool, but the dragons in Jon's control (since he's a Targaryan) I think would be put to better use with his calmer head, than in Dany's control.

Again, I think she has a bit too much of that mad king blood, and is too hot-headed (lulz) to be a good ruler. I used to be fully in her camp, but I'd even prefer Jon than her.

I forget if you said no spoilers, and I can change this if that's the case. But to be safe:

SPOILERS

AHEAD

The Starks are the most interesting family--though I agree with Eol about Jon Snow. I started to like him in the later seasons a little more becausense of his bad assness in a fight, but he's such a tropey character, I just don't care.

Arya is interesting. I like her as continuing on as the Stark assassin haha-after she kills Cersei, of course.

I will just come out and say this though: I doubt she'd take it because she loves the North so much, but I want Sansa on the Iron throne. She has been through so much and to me, her character has grown more than any of the others-especially in terms of ruling and seeing straght through peoples' bullshit. I hated her for most of the show, and was juuuuust starting to let myself like her before it seemed like she was going to let herself be manipulated by Little Finger again. I was SO mad, until that reveal of the Stark wolf pack, her and Arya and Bran, working together to take him out unfolded. So good.

Dany is pretty much the opposite of Sansa. She started out SO COOL. Kahleesi of a wild Dothraki clan, a meek girl transforming into a kiiiiller woman, immune to fire, DRAGONS. But the last couple seasons have, to me, really started to show her Mad King blood come out, and now I can't help but root against her--at least after the White Walkers, Cersei, and the rockstar pirate are taken out. At least if she's gone, Jon can still manage the dragons.

I could go on, but my thumbs are tired.

Who do you all think deserves to be on the Iron throne at the end?

Who do you think will actually take it?

“And what do you think of all this? Will you join us tomorrow and help us to hopefully find and prove the young lady’s innocence?”

The Aes Sedai replied with her impassive gaze before answering with her words, “Riddles in the dark, secrets upon secrets… I will join you to find the truth, whatever it may be.”

Cho'Ra nodded, "Splendid, we shall be a formidable troop on the young woman's behalf."

The rest of the night proved far less eventful once the woodsman departed to his room. The crowd and her table mates slowly dispersed as the night wore on and she sipped her ale. Cho'Ra finally turned in when only a few remained conscious in the common area of the Gentleman's Abode.

Sleep was often difficult to come by, and she tried to avoid it whenever possible. But when it finally fell upon her in the near silence of the inn, she clutched the sheath of the dagger that hung forever from her neck, and let the oblivion of unconsciousness take her.

Her dreams were typical: pain, death, revenge. The typical fair. Though the play swirling about her head was just bending in her favor when a savage rapping and barking of some beast drew her from her dream’s last act. She sat up and her long hair fell over her squinted eyes.

Was it truly morning already? Why was that bear of a man so jaunty? What did he want?

“If you wish to spare the youngling the headsman's ax,” the deep, gruff voice of the woodsman said, almost in reply to her thoughts, “we best be about it.” His voice faded down the walkway as he disturbed the rest of the guests and Cho’Ra lumbered out of bed.

She had once been a morning person, truly. She had woke and praised the Wheel for her fortune, her family, the grace she had been shown and had not deserved, coming from such a modest upbrining. The praise was much more difficult to even think of uttering these days.

Cho’Ra donned her her dress and traveling garments, did what she could to brush the sleep out of her hair, and joined those already downstairs, waiting for the rest to arrive.

She had thought it before, but the tapestry of colors they presented, both in palette and in personality, was wide and varied. It would be a very strange group that bore down on the Maeldon legal system today, and that strangeness was surprisingly exciting.
