Last night we had "Menu Sezchuan" from our favorite chinese/indonesian restaurant. We mostly always get that, unless we go in to dine and wok. You pick the ingredients yourself from the raw buffet bars, and they cook it for you. It's just like an american buffet, all you can eat, except it's finer and nicer and they do crazy tricks with the woks, haha. But you pick your sauce also. Like Sezchuan sauce, or garlic, or Kanton, or any of the other 10+ sauces they have. It's lovely, yes. And they always have the best part: The sushi.

a fan helps a lot of people sleep. Helped my dad. And cold rooms also.
When i was younger i had a friend who did the same thing you do. I would stay at her house occasionally and I slept in the same bed with her, and i thought i was going to freeze to death, and if not that, i thought i would die from all the snot and sickness i was getting, haha. It was cold, and the fan was just making it worse. But i made it through the night.

oh, right, Nori. I know nori. At the time however, i didn't, and recipes online weren't exactly helping me for some reason. Probably because i wasn't wise on japanese terms and foods like i am now (well, I'm not like you though!) I made the sushi long ago. Well, maybe just 8-9 months ago. When i went in the asian specialty store i was in a heaven of all kinds of things. And since this is the netherlands, they call things differently here than in english and chinese, japanese, etc. So i looked around for some farmiliar words and i recognized some words on the konbu. So i just picked that. It looked like the right stuff when it was dried Little did i know.

so nori it is! That will make my sushi perfect if i ever make it again. I really got tired of the kunbu. ick. But for now, I'm in love with sushi already made for me. It's expensive here, but i dish out the change once a month if i can for a little sushi or some maki. mm mm. This new store opened near my house just a couple of weeks ago, and they sell 10 pieces of sushi for only 4,98 euro. That's -amazing-. The rice isn't the best though. Falls everywhere. But I can live with that once in a while. Michiel and I are pretty darn good with the sticks! We eat with them 2-3 times a week. But with that crazy-rice sushi, chopsticks are pretty useless when trying to dip.
I prefer the maki they sell in the other store. 6-7 pieces for 6 euro. It's amazing, trully.

On Wasabi...wooo! I love a kick in the face with wasabi paste! haha

Oh, and no, i didn't use any sake for my rice. If i remember correctly, i used some suger and some kind of vinegar. It was great sushi rice though! very sticky and very tasty. I've never even tried sake before. For drinking or cooking.

yes, i believe it was kunbu. Some sort of kelp/seaweed anyway. I didn't like it very much though. It was ok at first, but the thickness and the specific flavor wasn't good for sushi (in my opinion). *Shrugs* First time for everything. you live and you learn
Miko, what should i use instead? I'm not even sure what to look for or buy to wrap around my sushi.

I like sushi rolls, myself, rather than draped fish over rice, but don't get me wrong, i like that too. Sushi can be pretty much anything you know. Sushimi is the raw fish. Sushi is all about the vineger/suger rice. At least, that's what i have recently learned on a show about sushi, lol.

Oh and where does Kung Pao come from? Japan, china, indonesia? Do you know? We just had it for dinner. All the directions were in some asian language, (it was a box with spices and rice and whatnot) and i just looked at the picture, figured out the ingredients, and cooked it up the way i normally cook up box dinners like that. They have tons of that kind of stuff here in Holland. Anyway, i was wondering where Kung Pao came from.

Miko, you can come cook at my house annnyyytime!

I've made sushi before. That was the most difficult food I've ever made i think. It took forever and I made wayyyy too much of it and like half of it went moldy in the fridge before i could eat it, haha. Michiel doesn't like sushi. Hmm, i can give you guys a link straight to a picture of it. I made lots of pictures, as there was a lot of sushi.

I also love to hear the soft rustle of leaves on trees in the summer. It's like they're talking to each other sometimes. And when the trees are swaying in the wind and the branches are moving around, it's like they're dancing and talking and interacting with each other, or with you. I get the same feeling in winter. It's haunting when they creak, but exciting too!

ok, I'm a little weird on the imagination side. It happens.

I'm an asianiac.
Love most all foods and things asian. I'm becoming quite the chinese/jap chef these days! ask Almerin....he's even getting tired of it i think. But who could get tired of delicious chinese!!?

Oh well, tonight we're having nice, boring lasagna cabanerra. He should like that. hehe
