Okay, some “behind the curtain” stuff from me, here, by way of trying to put some “perspective” on things… Before I get started, though, I just want to point out that nothing that I put in the Q&A or nothing I tack on to the game thread is ever intended to come off as Eol trying to monopolize the game or bash anyone else’s RPing or anything of that nature, I promise… I’ve loved this game from the outset and I’ve enjoyed the hell out of everything about it so far, I just kind of thought that it might help if I tossed out a few things in regards to events so far in hopes of mitigating any ‘misunderstandings’ IC or OOC that may be threatening to (or have already) rear their ugly heads:

Murph: At the start of all this, Murph was just a guy who decided that 9 days in the basement was enough… he couldn’t stand to watch Emily get any sicker, couldn’t look at Amber worrying over her phone, didn’t want to sit there and watch Alaster drink himself to death, etc… Help obviously wasn’t coming and, given the type of guy he is, figured that anything would be preferable to dying of starvation down in O’Brian’s cellar. So, when, he tore down that barricade and stepped out into the ‘apocalypse’ there wasn’t a single thought in his mind about being any sort of ‘leader’ to the rest of the folks in the basement… he just wanted out and, if he could, once he got out, find some help to bring back to the others. Thing is, the rest followed him out of the basement, gave him more to worry about than just himself, and that kicked his “Sgt Murphy” thing into gear… and, following that, it seemed that everyone else kind of started looking to Murph for the “now what?” moments. Given that, he kind of went; “Okay… I guess if I’ve gotta do this, I’ve gotta do this… let’s do it right”… so you get Murph in his “take charge” mode, etc….

With that in mind (and taking into consideration the ‘freak outs’ between the beginning of the game and now) let’s flash forward to where we are with the entry into the Save Rite, the “pissing match,” and Murph’s reaction to it… The way I saw it, everything with Mac’s enter strategy was cool with Murph (it went right along with what I imagined would have been laid out in Murph’s ‘this is how we move, this is how we defend, this is how we blahblahblah’ army-man demo back at the police cruiser) up until the point where Mac gave Alaster the ‘go ahead’ to go in first… had Mac looked at Alaster and said; “Get yer hoopty-walla-cha-cha back there and cover those people… we’ve got a plan, let’s stick to it… whatever” I don’t think the “surrealism” issue would have popped up…

Now, that said, I can completely understand where the thoughts/ideas came from… it’s the end of the world… we’re all freaked the frig out and we’re all hitting those primal instinct moments and everybody’s doing what they can to hold it together and show that they’re useful to our little band of hapless survivors buuuut… given what had already happened up to this point, I can see where Olan got the “surreal feel” from. We, the party, should have gotten any of that “I go first… No! I go first!” toe-stepping stuff out of the way a block or two back, probably…. Soooo, again, not trying to monopolize or be the big man on campus or anything of that nature, at all, but here’s Murph thinking that the survivors have ‘nominated him leader’ (even if it wasn’t what he wanted to happen) and doing pretty good about it all the way up until we have to make entry into the Save Rite… then it came unhinged when a case of the “I got giant cajones” broke out…

Which, I guess, would segue into…

Murph and Amber: Yep… there apparently is a little something going on there… as things have developed it’s been revealed that Murph and Amber knew each other before any of this happened and, even though it was only a ‘waitress/regular customer’ type thing (at least on the surface) before the ‘end of the world’ hit, both of them had entertained thoughts of something else (and are, perhaps now regretting not acting on when they had the chance)… Even if they hadn’t, though, Murph would still likely prioritize Amber first due to that existing relationship giving him an ‘anchor’ in reality, so to speak… Nothing he’s done so far should be interpreted as trying to be the “Alpha Male” and win the girl… Just some modicum of familiarity that he’s clinging to… So, is there a romance brewing between the mechanic and the barmaid? More than likely, yeah… assuming they live… But Emily being sick and needing medicine before he feels the group can make a good “run for it” or a “decent stand” at the very least, and Amber ‘needing’ to get to her son are the two BIG things driving Murph through all of this…

Goldingit! I think I rambled my way into a loop there somewhere… derailed my train of thought or something… ACK!!!

Anyway… bottom line, Murph’s doing what he’s doing not because he wants to be the boss or even wants to be a bad ass… what he really wants is to wake up and find out this has all been a bad dream, but, as long as the nightmare goes on, he figures it’s his ‘duty’ to get Amber and Emily taken care of even above the others… he’d like to help the guys, too, but when it comes right down to it, he figures the guys’ll do all right on their own if it comes right down to it and, most likely, if he ever feels that the “sausage fest” is getting too far out of hand, he’d probably be inclined to ‘ditch’… taking Amber (and Emily if she didn’t out and out refuse) with him just to insure that it wasn’t bravado/machismo/whatever you want to call it that got them all killed… Safety in numbers, you know, unless those numbers keep tripping over one another.

Okay… Eol shutting up… sorry for expounding out loud and, again, no offense or anything like that intended… just hoping for a somewhat more stable ‘group dynamic’ and such… You don’t want Murph leading? Let him know… he won’t cry about it. You do want Murph leading? Go with “the plan” and keep the primal instincts at bay unless we’re getting mauled by zombies…

Who knows? One of our two new additions (or one of our already existing group) may just nudge Murph out of that ‘de facto leadership role’ anyway… Who’s to say Murph doesn’t buy the farm in the back of the Save Rite?

Okay… seriously… I’m zippin’ it, now… [/runoffatthemouth]

Hmmm

"...my character's name is Murph Murphytommy. "

You should ride a Raptor, wielding a toilet plunger, screaming out your name all day long. It'd be pretty impressive!

"I AM Murph Murphytommy! Cower in fear!"

Say huh..but..but.. I thought..?

I really Don't wanna push the issue here, I REALLY don't, but a lot of that sounded like it may have been aimed at me. Which makes me have to ask...

Did I send you the same PM as I sent T_catt11, or did he foward it to you?

For the record, I believe I'm guilty of one of the worst mistakes a role player can make. I've seen it in one of my games and it wasn't pretty. From the beginning Alaster, the character, NOT the player of the character, has been somewhat a constant source of irritation to Mac. Finally it happened at the Save Rite, I got a little TOO into my character and my RL/OOC feelings merged with my RP/IC feelings, and I believe thats where Mac's reaction at the door came from.

from the beginning Mac was with Murph's logic on the matter, but it was just frustration that got to him. So much so, that he allowed his rear to be unguarded (Oh and T_catt11, thanks for not having Emily pay for Mac's mistake).

Just keep in mind, Mac has been a loner, for the most part. He never had a partner so he was never much of a team player. This is new for him and he's TRYING.

ok now on a lighter note, If the message was forwarded to Eol, T_catt11 see what you did? All that writing energy could have been put into one of those epic novella game posts, but Nooooooooo, it had to wind up HERE!

Nope, I didn't forward it. We discussed what had been going on in game, but I kept your PM to me as a PM.

Seriously, though - I think we are, indeed, getting a little too caught up on what is, overall, a minor deal.

I just thought it was a really odd time to have the pissing match, since a plan had already been made. I had no zombie planned in the building or street at the time, so no harm, no foul.

Now, let's get on with it so I CAN harm you guys.

Useless

Emily: Emily was the scared 'little girl' with major health problems and was expected to die. She shut out the rest of the world and let everyone else deal with their problems, and it wasn't until their first encounter she really recieved her wake-up call and threw her butt in gear.

It's revealed Emily's attending Harvard as a med student, and knows more about medicines and injuries than she likes to let on. Becauzse of her reclusive tendencies, the group isn't able to see her quick-wit and good memory, let alone her talent as a potential doctor. The only peeks they have are when Emily talked about the medicines they needed, and when she wasn't worried about Jake's wound getting infected.

Emily's temper has also burst through. With a mother who constantly travlled when she was a child, Emily spent alot of time with good ole Dad and developed a little anger problem. She conceals it very well, but she will explode and can fight with the best of them when she's beyond reason. It's also been shown she doesn't really like weapons; however, she used to go to a shooting range with her father when she was little, leading to her (Very limited) knowledge of guns. At least she knows her to fire and what direction to point it!

As mentioned before, she is a recluse, but for some reason, has began to open up to Alaster and attach herself to him and Mac. She'd be a surprsingly good friend if given the chance, but doesn't want to be buddy-buddy with anyone in particular, save for the two already mentioned. She's loyal to Murph only because he's kept them out of danger; and she has a thing for the bounty hunter. This impairs her judgement a bit, but she means well.

Yes, I decided to give y'all a peak, much like Eol, just because I've been working a bit on developing her.

As for the surrealism, I take the blame for starting it... But I'm being good from now on!!! Don't want a party wipe...

And I should be posting soon, but I'd love it if someone wanted to collaborate!!
