I just have to chime in to say that I love the logo up there by the title of your blog. Is it also homebrew?

Jozan: Everything is saved only to the computer that you are using. It is possible, though a bit tedious, to transfer adventures between computers by copying a few files from your hard drive. I will try to put up the instructions for doing that within a few days.

Update: It turns out that doing so is really only practical in Google Chrome, so a reliable method for moving and sharing adventures will have to wait.

Jozan: Yes; you can use any kind of sound file. The key here would be to uncheck the Loop checkbox so that the voice clip is only played once. Also, if you already have music playing and don't want to interrupt it, you can set Layer to Foreground and it will play on top of the music. You might also want to adjust the Volume of either the music or the voice clip.

I agree with previous posters that some of the events in this seasons were among the most disturbing that I've seen on TV. I also agree about Andrea being annoying and Michonne being unrealistic.

That being said, I have really enjoyed this part of the season. I don't know if I've ever been that tense during a season finale.

Also, I got my mom to start following the show. Me and my brother were catching up on the season a few weeks ago and after we had finished watching one episode she asked, "Got another one?"

How much geek cred does that give me?

Subject: RPG Ambience - Bring your game to life with music and visuals

Just in time for Christmas, I have a present for all the innmates: RPG Ambience.

RPG Ambience is a media player that enables roleplayers to bring their sessions to life using sound and visuals. It can be used for creating complex audiovisual intro sequences or just for having quick access to background music during play. I've used variants of it in my games for years, and now I'm releasing a free, browser-based version for everybody's benefit.

I know a lot of you primarily roleplay online, but those of you who are interested in adding some ambience to your tabletop sessions should give it a try: http://rpg-ambience.com/.

If you have any feedback, I will be glad to receive it in this thread.

Merry Christmas!

Have you ever felt that your character's name is missing that elusive touch of authenticity? RPG Census to the rescue!

RPG Census is a tiny web application of mine that generates names for characters using data from the U.S. census. Give it a whirl: RPG Census.

Have fun!

Eol: I agree that Rick's description of how Shane died was about as clumsy as they get. In fact, I think most in the group acted quite oddly toward the end of the episode.

By the way, the official Walking Dead talk show (Talking Dead...) confirmed that the "zombie flashes" were what Shane experienced as he was turning. (I never knew about this talk show until now, so I haven't seen any other episodes. I'm guessing they provide quite a few insights as well.)

Hammer: I don't know about Rick spilling his guts to the group. If anyone did that, it was Dale.

Subject: Spoiler-free, hopefully

Without spoiling anything, I believe I can ask this: Why was Lori so shocked over the fact that Rick killed Shane? She had been pressuring him to do just that, and that was back when Rick still thought Shane could be redeemed. (One might say that Lori was simply warning Rick about Shane, but Rick already knew that Shane was dangerous, so her only real reason for bringing it up was to persuade Rick to get rid of Shane.)

Also, I don't know anything about this Michonne thing, but seeing her definitely reminded me that this thing is adapted from a comic book.

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead
Subject: Marathon

Just watched a Walking Dead marathon today of three episodes, after not following the series for several weeks. Pretty big events!

I'm still waiting for that dad and his son from the beginning of the first season to come back. This has got to be the longest set-up in a TV series that I've ever seen. Let's hope the pay-off is worth the wait! If nothing else, they could use two new cast members right about now.

When Shane was turning into a zombie, they showed quick close-ups of a zombie growling. I remember that from somewhere. Did it appear earlier during the series, or is it from somewhere else? It might be from Serenity (where River gets similar flashes about the Reavers from time to time), but I'm not sure if that's it.

Does anyone else think it's time for a change of location? From the looks of it, it will happen whether they plan for it or not. If so, where should they go next? I hear Nebraska is nice, but I'm sure you could make all sorts of zombie jokes about Florida. I would suggest Sweden since I've been waiting for a zombie flick to be set here, but we actually got our own zombie TV series just a week ago. It's about a bunch of washed-up celebrities who turn into zombies. Sounds pretty epic, doesn't it?

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead
Subject: Latest episode

Without knowing what's to come, I think the most important moment in this latest episode was what happened at the very end, with the "visit" at the bar as Eol put it. At this point, Hershel was devastated and more or less seemed to want Rick's group to pack up and leave. When those two thugs entered the bar with their threats, however, you saw how Hershel immediately united with Rick to protect everyone at the farm. When faced with a greater threat, the two groups realize that despite their disagreements they are on the same side - or at least on the opposite side of any thugs out in the world.

Although for story reasons I don't expect Rick's group to stay nor Hershel to leave, I believe this kind of event could make them stick together despite the tragedy at the barn. I'm waiting to see what happens!

Subject: Glenn

Another thing I liked in this episode was Glenn's conversation with Maggie about how the rest of the group had been using him as "walker bait" and so on, and that he basically agreed. Was this in the comic? Because it feels a lot like something the writers could have put in after noticing just how often Glenn really does become walker bait throughout the series—a bit of meta-humor, if you will.

I don't know the publication dates of the comics, so here's another question: If that conversation was indeed in the comics, did he also mention the game Portal? It was pretty funny regardless.

Subject: The girl in the barn

Is there any way to justify the fact that Hershel's family knew whom the group was looking for and still didn't tell them about the girl they had locked in the barn?

It could be a plot hole, seeing as how the family offered to help look for Sophia even though they had reason to believe she was in fact the girl in the barn, and also because Maggie seemed to care enough about Glenn to reveal something like that.

If it's not a plot hole, it seems like an incredibly selfish and shortsighted thing for Hershel to do, and it makes me dislike him even more.

Any suggestions on how to view this?

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead
Subject: Incredible

Incredible. Now that's a pretty damn powerful season finale! The build-up made it even more jarring than the fourth season finale of Dexter, which I know shocked quite a few people.

I would say that it even goes beyond all the bullets fired at the very end. Just as disturbing is the fact that Shane was proven right on one of his points—and the lingering fear that he might be right on the others as well. In just a few minutes, he effectively shattered the faith of everyone on the farm.

The writers did a terrific job on this one. While the first season ended on an optimistic note, this one did the opposite and I'm sure it will keep viewers impatiently waiting for the next season.

Does anyone else think Rick is a lot like Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings movies? Apart from being the group's leader, I think he also has the same demeanor, facial expressions, and voice as Viggo Mortensen. And if Rick had worked in Texas instead of Georgia, he might even have been an actual ranger.

Now I can see why Herschel would want the others to leave as soon as possible. He does seem to be a control freak patriarch in general, though, so it's quite possible he would have asked them to leave even without those walkers in his barn.

I also enjoyed Daryl's meta-humor when he explained why the Chupacabra wasn't all that implausible. If a zombie apocalypse really happened, which other things would you start believing in?

I started reading your first paragraph until I realized that new episodes are shown on Sundays. I don't watch mine until the following weekend (since Walking Dead is not on any Swedish channels). I'll read the rest of it once I've actually seen those barn-dwelling walkers you mention.

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead
Subject: Two questions

Two open questions for anyone who wants to discuss:

1. Is there any reason apart from poetic license that some people have survived so easily while the rest of the world was destroyed? The father and son that Rick met early in the first season had no problem holing up in their house in the suburbs, even taking pot shots at the zombies every now and then. Likewise, the family on the farm don't seem to have had any major problems even though there were clearly zombies nearby (the one in the well, for example). (Not that poetic license is a bad explanation, but I'm wondering if there might be more to it than that.)

2. Why does Hershel insist that Rick and the others leave as soon as Carl is alright? Is it simply because more braaains tend to attract more zombies and more intrigue or is there something more subtle to it? Those of you who have read the comic book might be able to contribute a bit from there, as long as it's spoiler-free.

As mentioned before, there has been quite a bit of faith in some of these episodes. Were these religious themes in the comic book as well or did they add it for the TV series?

I've never heard of that movie—but it sounds like a perfect combination of all the best movies I've ever seen!

If you're in the mood for a less conventional and more Norwegian take on zombies, check out Dead Snow (originally Død snø). How is it unconventional? For one thing, it includes zombie nazis. It also portrays the dilemma of what to do when one's private parts are at risk of being zombified.
