Freekin > Illithid > Moves to B9 (folowing path, k8,j9,i9,h9,g9,f9,e9,d9,c9,b9)> attacks Azure Sky

The little fury screams forward towards his enemy, raising the hammer side of his weapon high above his head. "I'll KILL YOU!"

Subject: Rolls Highest Initiative!

Round 1
Freak > Moves to n15

Freak reflects on the heat of the sun, taking in the surroundings of the arena. The turf is solid, and with the exception of the water pit, it seems a good place for a battle. Though he can swim, Freak dislikes getting wet, as it tend to make his hair quite stinky.

Round 2
Freak > Moves to k8

As the gnome walks toward a spot where he spots a particularly red pebble, he revels in the thought of bloodshed to come.

Round 3
Freak > Pick up item: little red pebble

Picking up the red pebble, he wipes the dust off and blows on it. He likes the pebble, it reminds him of bloodshed. He likes bloodshed too! Freak is looking forward to cutting into some of the other contestants. He wonders how many he can kill before they take him down... maybe three?

Round 4
Freak > Sheathes: little red pebble

The red eyed gnome stashes away his new found pebble, the token of time, the memory of this battle. The hardy gnome has fought many a battle, and has jars full of pebbles to prove it, many of them were fought against his older brother Liurel, all of which young Freekin had lost, but alas, it was the curse of sibling rivalry. "One day," thought Freekin Saer'voch, "one day I'll kill you brother."

Round 5
Freak > takes a full round stretch action

Freekin brings his hands up to the sky, stretching out his back muscles and twisting his torso. Then he brings his hands down so his fingers can touch his toes. Doing all of this fighting without a good stretch, and he could pull something... he would want a back ache to cramp him up when after gutting some taller folk. He may have to go up on his tippy toes after all, and he'd hate to look any more foolish than that already did while clobbering someone's head...

Round 5
Freak > Draws Gnome Hooked Hammer

Pulling his gnome hooked hammer from rest on his back and into his hands, the gnome keenly prods at the end of the pick to ensure it is sharp, and inspects the rest of his weapon for marks and bends. He emits a wicked grin of approval among further inspection, and talking to himself he says, "This shall do just fine..."

Round 6
Freak > falls over bored

As Freak stands there in waiting, he is quickly bored by the minute passing of time. He wants to fight. He sits down on the turf, and reflects upon his arrival here. In fact, it was due to that thrice damned brother of his. After their last fight, Liurel had sold Freekin into slavery, and seeing as his master could think of nothing better to do with him, he sent him away to the arena. It wasn't all bad. After all, free food, healing and whatyamacallits... His master told him, that if he wins the championship belt, that Freak would be a free man once more. This too was a relief. All Freekin had to do was eradicate his foe at every turn, and then the chains of bondage would be unloosed.

Round 7
Freak > Picks his nose

Green and golden globs of succulent beauty erupt from his nostrils as he contemplates the taste of a particular nugget with hair encased within, and a vein of clotted blood to boot.

Round 8
Freak > Eats his boogers

'Nuff said.

Round 9
Freak > Stands up from Prone > Scratches his butt

Sensing the imminent beginnings of a battle about to unfold, Freak stands up, not that he is much taller standing than sitting. He picks at an old scab from where he used to scratch his butt, and opens up the old war wound... after cursing about that for a while, he picks his breeches out of his crack, thinking about how hard it would be to do that in mid swing. It is a necessity however, can't wait... whenever that kind of thing happens, better to take care of it right away.

Round 10
Freak > Takes a Ready Action

Standing with his feet spread shoulder length apart, bent at the knee, he holds up his weapon, distributing the weight evenly in both hands. This freak is ready for a fight.

Though Llammoth could not overhear the conversation between the two thieves, she could detect no treachery coming from their leader when he agreed to the offer. She approached Pio and whispered in his ear, "He seems genuine, though fifty guain is an outrageous amount to pay a cutpurse."

Glancing back at Percifeer, she also came to the conclusions that the dragonsblood was gunning for a fight. "Our sister seems adamant on attrition, and may ruin our chance at finding out what they have to know."

Llammoth spoke out to Percifeer in Draconic, so as not to be understood by the thieves around them. "Percifeer! This may be a great opportunity to flush out knowledge that is helpful to our father. If we kill these vagrants we may be worse for wear in more ways than one. It was you who suggested that we get in touch with the district of thieves, well, here they are now, and though fifty guain is a high price to pay, it would be just as high if we appealed to the guilds themselves. I know you're feeling slighted, but what the girl did was clearly an amateurs mistake, and no harm came of it! Before you start shooting, consider that we have no idea which one of these thugs knows what. We need all the help we can get."

I like the Chaotic Neutral alignment. I am especially fond of crazy! I remember making a character I called a gnoblin. he was a goblin/gnome who literally hated himself. He wasn't really sadomasochistic or anything, however he did tend to put himself in fights that seemed to have no purpose other than to be punished. He was a cleric who used his armor and shield as weapons, and his deity was a god of pain whose name I have long since forgotten.

Subject: The Wisdom of Knowledge

After Vatta had said, “A man dying of thirst in the desert, would gladly give up that book of knowledge for a drink of water.” Cerric had the compulsion to interject with the fact that he was more than a simple scholar, and in fact a priest of Oghma, such a man who could create food and water from faith, and that power came from the knowledge of his patron. He didn't however, though it may have seemed at first to the elven lady that he had wanted to say something, he bit his tongue. It was unwise to progress an argument for the sake of ill will. She was right, in all manner of ways that did not involve him, but perhaps he should be humble, and heed the lessons of an ageless beauty.

Smiling at Vatta, he instead replied,"Perhaps," and with his last words he looked into her amber eyes and winked,"there are more important things in life."

When his ale arrived, he took a sip, and then stood for Lorae's toast. These people were still quite foreign to him, and with Vatta aside, who had come with him from Asbenford, all the others seemed well acquainted with one another, though Logan had chosen to sit alone. He looked to the table where he had been sitting, and noted the man's departure from the tavern. A slight of concern fell across the priest's face. There was so much he didn't know about these people. There was much he did not know at all.

After he sat back down beside Vatta, he raised his glass to her in toast. "To wisdom, and to long life... though I suppose I will never know the meaning of that as well as you."

I actually speak Draconic =Þ

Not that it matters for the sake of spellcasting. Magic words aren't really supposed to make sense I don't think. Each spellcaster uses the magical language embedded in the universal flow of creation, and though each uses it differently, or at the very least writes it out differently, only other spellcasters, or fakers with really good spellcraft can actually "Understand the words that are coming outta your mouth!" At least, that is what I have been raised to believe.

Llammoth, realizing that for the time being, the battle may not even occur, redirects her focus on the conversation between the head thug and Pio. She reads the bright expression on the leader's face, and attempts to listen in on the whispered conversation of the two thieves. When the head thug returns with his proposal, she studies the man's body language and tone of voice for any signs of a bluff. She needs to make sure that they were not being misdirected.

Cerric nodded to Xuor, whose toast was a fine one, and then turned his attention to the elven mercenary Vatta, who was teasing him over his overly zealous concern for meaningless valuables. He rose from his seat to hover over her, brushing his hand down her arm as he said. "You are quite right dearest mercenary. Though in truth, you may be remisce in one minor detail. The books of knowledge I so endlessly prize, happen to be among the most expensive items a man could ever buy!"

He looked to his comrades gathered around in celebration and sighed. "Perhaps," he began, with an air of reluctance, "It is a question for another time."

Laughing in his throat he called for the waiter to bring him some ale. He took the seat next to Vatta, and struck up conversation with her while he awaited his refreshments. "You were truly astonishing out there. I do not believe I've ever seen a shot so fine! I suppose it is true what they say about elves and bows..." He smirked at this minor stereotype, hoping to get a rise out of the lady. He was beginning to enjoy her company, as opposed to his lack luster solitaire. The life of a wandering scholar. A sage who was far too young to be known as such.

Subject: Careful Now...

Devalero, I of course submit to your rule of this particular game, but I have to say this in good conscience.

I cannot see how a "riding dog" is the statistic block for a "guard dog". A riding dog that is given the skill set "guarding" would still cost the same as a riding dog given the skill set "riding". Think of it this way. The DC for Guarding is a 20 Handle animal, whereas the DC for Riding is 15. It takes 4 weeks to train for guarding and only 3 weeks for riding. Now, granted, Combat riding takes six weeks, but the DC is still only 20, and this is considered an "upgrade" to the riding skill set.

The difference in skill for riding and guarding would actually make guarding MORE expensive than riding because of the extra week of training, food, and etc. Thus the only logical conclusion is that the guard dog is a regular small dog with 1HD.

There is a severe repercussion to the allowance of a riding dog with war abilities to come onto the field for 25gp, even if it can't be ridden. You are giving a character a 2HD creature with decent stats and multiple attacks. PLUS, if any attack hits, that dog can make a free trip attack attempt WITHOUT causing an attack of opportunity against themselves, and without the chance of the opponent trying to counter that said trip.

All that being said, I think it is an unwise choice. The normal dog still provides a flank, a distraction, and a decent attacker that acts like another 1d4+1 damage. It's like a rogue having a magic missile that allows it to get a sneak attack as well. That is unbalanced as is.

I hope you reconsider.

(P.S. Drawing a weapon as a part of a move action is only considered free if the character has a base attack bonus of +1 or more. So at first level, only fighters, rangers, paladins, and barbarians are allowed to do so.)

Perhaps Cerric had Oghma to thank for his safe returned, completely unharmed, or perhaps he ought to give thanks to the skillful fighters in which he had joined. Though, in his heart, there was a twinkle left aside for Vatta, who had promised to protect him in the battle. Her dextrous use of that bow was a undeniable force behind his safe return. Now that he had returned to town however, he would once again put on the facade of being no more than a meager priest of knowledge. Addressing the raven, Char, who was resting placidly on his shoulder, he said. "It is time for you to go out of sight my friend. I do not want the townsfolk thinking of me as a mage. They tend to distrust what they do not fathom." His draconic was fluid and flowing, the soft hissing s sound rumbling low into his tongue.

Char's reply was, uncannily as fluent, if not moreso than his master's "Very well, I shall be black against black sky, the shadow in the rafters, far enough from their suspicions, but close to you, ripe for beckoning."

Cerric was always pleased with his familiar. He had heard many tales from other wizards that their companions were not so obedient.

When the mystic theurge dismounted, and allowed the stable boy to tend to his extraordinary horse, he followed the group into the local tavern, and sat down at a table beside them, smiling when they questioned his motives so as not to seem contemptuous. Truth be told, he wasn't fond of drunken gluttony. He would prefer a quiet evening in his room studying books. He did have a question for them however, one that he felt was a necessary one. "So, my companions... Not to sound obtuse, but how exactly are we planning to split the spoils of our victory?"

Her very first reaction amongst the thieves was to make herself small. In earnest, she was far more effective with words than weapons. Her expertise had been forged in the pit of politics, and not the field of battle. This was not to say she was being a coward... just, pretending to be a coward. It was a clever tactic that she had found far more effective than the direct approach to combat. In addition to her apparent reproach to fighting, she added with a squeak of fear in her voice, "N-no, please don't hurt me!"

She waited for the right moment, judging the effectiveness of her feint against the nearest male. If he showed any sign of weakness, showed that he was letting his guard down, she would strike forth with her shortspear.

In anticipation for her strike, she paid heed to the gaps in his armour, and the most vital areas in plausible striking distance. His neck seemed a particularly juicy target. Through her periphery, she watched the soft pulse of his flesh, the whole world tunneling into this small distinction. Wait, and strike.

If he was not showing any sign of belief in her weakness, if he maintained his full caution against the small half-orc female, then she would be forced to strike out without the element of surprise on her hand. She would be wary in striking, keeping her guard high; not risking any exposure on her part. This particular focus on safety may have the tendency to decrease her accuracy, but it would increase her reflexive reactions against attack. By far, survivability was more important to her. After all, she had her brothers and sisters with her, and they would assist in the fight, perhaps more effectively than she could ever muster. (If the feint fails, she will strike using her +3 attack bonus as a dodge bonus instead, via the combat expertise feat)

Of course, she would take no action until the battle was a determined fact. She had no intention of putting her kin in any more harm then they need be in. Pio had seemed to incite a peaceful reaction in one of their leaders, though the tension did not lessen after the accidental misfire of one of the young females. Whatever the decision made by the others, she would follow accordingly. (She will take a ready action until the battle is decidedly on, at which point she will strike. If the battle does not proceed, neither will she.)
