Well, I know what Calopee would be most interested in doing in her free time, though its dreadfully dull to anyone else I imagine.

After though, what is our plan? Are we going to be heading off to face this Jaron fellow? Or had anyone considered another plan? If we're establishing ourselves here, we may want to uproot any threats to our position sooner rather than later. On the other hand, his castle may be a lot to handle.

It hasn't quite made it off the ground floor, so to speak. I haven't officially thrown it in hiatus or fizzled status, but there's been no activity. I think I owe everyone a map...

Sorry. The pentacle encompasses the well you drop down from. It's in a 15' diameter. The room is ~30x40 feet.

All right. I posted into the entrance of the Dungeon. If I can get some free time over the weekend I will map out the room for you. Give you a better visual representation of the area you are in. Anyways. Here's to making it to the start without killing each other! :p

Down a hundred rungs of well aged, yet surprisingly sturdy hempen rungs, lay a room that at first glance could best be described as a foyer, as if it were the entrance to a grander structure. The floor directly below them, lit aglow by the discarded lantern, showed a perfectly illuminated depiction of a pentacle. Surrounding the circle in the common tongue, was a message, or perhaps a warning. It read simply, "safety within, danger without."

Leery eyes scanned the room, instantly picking out the remains of three lost souls, picked clean to the bone. One rested in a chair, face down upon a wooden table. Another hung from a sturdy sconce. The last lay bitterly broken, with a sword through his spine. This one stood apart from the others because his bones were glowing florescent green. It lit up that corner of the room.

With regards to the room, it was rectangular, and differed from their point of origin in that the walls were constructed by square stone blocks. The whole room was crafted, and likely well, before it was lost in time. Dust covered all things, but what could be seen were the doors that rest in the centre of all four walls, made of thick looking wood, with ornamental lions heads for handles. Beside the table that was the resting place of the one who'd passed, lay another table with bowls and jars scoured across the face of it. A stack of yellowed old tomes lay haphazardly beside it, piled nearly to match the height. On the opposite wall, flanking the doorway, were a rack of weapons, or to be more specific, a rack of spears.

On the short walls there were two coat of arms. One of a dragon, and the other a wolf. Across the dragons crest rest a mantle, that shimmered finely in the twinkling light of the lantern. Across the crest of the wolf, was a sword, longer than the standard fair, with a fair sized hilt to match. Green and gold banners flanked the coats, depicting the images of unrecognizable heroes... Or perhaps villains?

Hey guys! I'm thinking about getting you guys into the next room. Unless there are any specific objections, I will let you sort out the order of your descent, and perhaps the different reactions to some of the characters and their outbursts/actions. This will leave me a little more time to focus on all the little quirks of the room.

All that said. Look for an update Wednesday night. I'll be working on it throughout the day when I get the chance.

Subject: Shall we be off?

From the comfort of the shade, the young Calopee Kindric watched the interactions of the townsfolk and her fellows. Sehanine masterfully spun the tale of the evening’s events, and though she didn’t lie, her voice was as velvety as ever when denoting the bad bits, such as the shed and ransacking that had taken place. Isaiah was bitterly displeased at the loss of his shack to be sure, though his offer seemed to stand through the test of this disappointment. Calopee ceased her polishing for the moment, and gently replaced her kit within her pack and considered the scene. He’d managed to wrangle up a good chunk of townies, and she wondered if they were to be given a cut of Isaiah’s harvest as well. Hardly seemed worth it, but she could see how the mind would fret at the site of smoke lining the sky above. What would have happened to these people if they had come across the raiders that her and her band tussled with the night before? A small grimace was the answer to her rhetoric. We had a tough time of things, outnumbered as we were she thought, These folks and their pitchforks would have been short work for these hardened murderers.

As Sehanine tried to maneuver her way into the proposed trial of the foul mouthed survivor, Mal was ingratiating himself with the common folk, giving away what little gains they had made from the spoils of war. ”Shoulda pocketed the gold when I found it." Still, it wasn't a bad idea to establish some modicum of efficacy in the town's militia. Perhaps she could teach the young ones the masterful art of stone throwing. That would be sure to keep them safe from any future raids. First she'd have to teach the kids how to sap their parent's coin purse. Nothing for free in this world. Why would you give yourself away?

With the gear being given away, and Sehanine bowing to mob justice in her own manipulative way, there was little else to do here but await payment. Seeing as the wheat was still standing tall, she didn't see that money lining her pockets anytime soon. Isaiah laid bare the question of the day - Where are we staying? She thought this odd, after all, hadn't he sought them out? She stood up and brushed the grass off her backside before approaching the farmer. "The Bearded Dragon, aye!" she replied, with a telling eye that darted towards the always suspicious Sehanine. "We'll be there contemplating the next chapter in our legend."

She'd wait for the others to make up their minds, and help escort the prisoner, be it to their base, or whatever posed as a cell in Schell, but mostly she was concerned with two things, where she could find more rocks, and what was to be done about the threat just beyond the horizon. If they didn't deal with Jaron swiftly, Calopee feared, he would be the one to make the next move. This was essentially the worst possible scenario for a small contingent facing off against a numerous foe.

After some of the rough and tumble, and another helping of farmer's delight, Calopee slept like the dead. It wasn't until the quiet of the humble farmhouse was abruptly disturbed by the putrid mouth of their captive that she stirred from her deep slumber. Flashes of the most terrifying nightmare crossed through her mind in the dark hovel that was her hiding hole. Fraudulent memories of feisty goats and their devilish yellow eyes, always staring her down, brushing up to her, and nipping at her... Backside. A shudder passed through her, and her reality came back with a start. Where was she? In the house for sure, but why was it still so dark? She felt around the walls that caged her, only to lean against a cupboard door and fall out onto the simple floor. Right. She saw that none of the others felt a watch was necessary, and elected to stow herself away in the cupboards... She figured it was possible to go unnoticed in case another contingent of bandits came to determine the fate of the farm.

Groggily she rose to her feet and headed towards the door to greet the morning sun. Finding a nice spot in the shade, she sat down and fiddled around with her rock polishing kit and began her never-ending practice of creating skip rocks. She barely raised her head to glance upon Isaiah and his host when they came to inquire about the happenings of the night before. Better to let the silver-tongued Sehanine deal with them. She could learn a thing or two about diplomacy from the wispy enchantress.

Subject: Into The Rabbit Hole.

The drow, who proclaimed herself to be "La Lalalalaa" had discovered the floor to be hollow, and asked the hound, in a somewhat brackish manner to see if he could sniff anything out. The hound did obey, and moved closer to the pedestal to investigate. The search was a bust however, all the scents in the room were somewhat confused, and the air became thicker by the moment as the lamp burned its foul oil, and the smoke mixed in the air. The kobold, questioned on an affinity for Celestial twitched his head as though to say no, but then, surrounding the words, the emptiness between the carvings, was the written tongue of ancient dragons. Alas, it was syllabic, and he could take days pondering the ways the sounds formed words. It was of little consequence at that point though, for the mongrel had been lurking around since attention became drawn towards the centre of the room.

With what little patience his twitchy form could render, the mongrel watched as the kobold examined the rings, revolving them around the pedestal and searching for shapes and words. Perhaps something to explain this room, this prison, or even a way out. What hit him instead was a story that belonged within the confines of a holy book, or perhaps a rendition of a holy war. Either way, the perversion of holy words did not illuminate an escape. Well then. Enough of this patience crap!

The mongrel moved around the pedestal, perhaps looking for traps, or pressure plates. Finding nothing of it, he lunged for the burning lamp, yanking it from atop the pedestal and lording over it's contents. How now, will he get the key out of the bottom of a burning crystal torch?

A question for later perhaps... When the mongrel removed the torch, it set of a mechanism underneath the pedestal that caused the whole column to lower into the floor, revealing a chamber below. The light did not touch the floor of it, but there was a tattered hemp ladder staked to the side leading down into the darkness. Only the drow could see to the bottom. It was a long drop through what seemed like an old refashioned well. At the bottom there was a pattern, a pentacle, and some writing that she could not read from this distance. The enclosed tunnel of the well's walls did not allow for anything else of note to be taken in about the room.

So if I understand correctly, the Mongrel is snatching the lamp from atop the pedestal, and taking possession of the key?

If this is the case, I can draw up another update, though I may wait until Friday/Saturday. I've been invited to a private event today!

Chessic, we shall deal with your nose in said update.

There does not appear to be any form of aperture to the key aside from the top of the lamp. One may very well be able to remove the top, or perhaps tip the lamp for an easier way to access said key.

The rings do revolve around the top of the pedestal. To be clear, however, the images you have found do not appear all together. It is also relevant to note that the images do not appear in just a 'normal' fashion. Some are upside down. The more you play with it, the more images you see, and your kobold can even begin to make out a few draconic syllables, not in the words, but in the absence of their engravings.

PS: Mr. Grugg. I've updated about as much as I can see from the most recent actions. Hopefully the next update may reveal something further for the group.

I haven't been pressing for updates because I was still pretty busy the last few weeks, but I've found some free time again. Haha. Well. If we get this pile of bodies sorted out somehow, Calopee will be polishing stones until his arrival. Of course she may grab a nap, but she could do first watch. I'd like to claim... The gold!

While Mal followed his grumbling gut into the hut, and Sehanine led her 'captive' towards the same rutty house, Calopee's eyes lingered upon the mess of bodies that had been collated by larger beings.

Questioning eyes looked up at Relos, who she momentarily recognized as the proper moral expert with regards to bestowing ceremonies upon fallen foes. A slight twinge of culpability could be felt in the stutter of her inquiry as she spoke. "What do we do with them? Surely this pile cannot stand as their last vigil? They were scum to be sure, but what are we if in our wake is left a pile of bodies?"

Her eyes waited expectantly for an answer. She'd rejoiced at the fall of them. But gazing upon their bemused faces, left her recognizing the weight of lost lives.
