Topic: The Red Dragon Arena Battlegrounds
Subject: The Arena Calls

The sun rises on the Red Dragon Arena revealing a mighty battleground. Twelve contestants have arrived to pit their strength and skill against one another in combat. Only one will be declared the champion and have the right to wear the Red Dragon Belt. Two huge carved dragons await the contestants as they enter the arena. After registering they have been put together in one room. the challenge will be to know each of the players well enough to be able to work with them if they share a team but at the same time not give enough information away that it will hinder them in the future.

After a long period of waiting it is time for the first battle. The first round of pairings is up (See the Leaderboard Thread For The List) 4 Teams of 3 members each. Each team gathers together and heads to one of four specific rooms with their team name on the door. Only members of that team are allowed into that room. Here they can create a strategy for success (I will make one thread for each Team to talk to each other. Unfortunately I cannot keep other teams from reading your posts .. so you may want to PM secret info to each other)

When the battle begins, each team will have 1 minute to prepare. This includes moving to a location on the battlegrid, casting key spells and buffs etc. (Remember, all spells that last for over a minute will be effective for an entire battle. Other spells that last 1 round per minute will be monitored closely) 1 Minute is 10 Rounds. Please list round 1 - 10 on your pre-battle post. Use the posting techniques I outlined in the rules to do this

I will give 24-48 hours for you to give your first posts before the actual fighting begins. Communicate with each other and have fun.

If you would like to post how you got to the arena .. a background story, if you will, you may do so also. I think I have added everyone permission to post. It is a major arena .. typical sort of thing. Feel free to make up NPCs and stuff like that to add flavor for your background.

Myra

Myra continues to gather her items together and has them placed in either her backpack or one of her cloth sacks. She thanks the man and puts her coin on the counter (PM me your purchase list and the amount) As she turns to leave she hears a chime on the door. It is Ariellyn and Selaro coming in for some shopping as well.

Selaro and Ariellyn
Selaro and Ariellyn continue their conversation as they enter the General Store. As they look up they see a familiar face at the counter. Myra has been doing some shopping as well. The young man behind the counter smiles at the two new customers and remarks Be with you in one second, just finishing up with this customer here.

Welbry

As Welbry plays his lute he he draws a small crowd. Many of the town recognize him as one of the town saviors and stick around to hear his performance telling others who he is as they pass by. Before long a significant crowd has gathered around to watch the performance. When Welbry finishes he is greeted by a round of applause. Coins go flying through the air at Welbry's feat. All together there are 28 silver coins, 3 gold coins and a handfull of copper, too many to count in front of everyone without looking greedy. As the crowd disperses, Welbry and his tired fingers head out to browse the shops. As he passes by the general store he sees some familiar faces through the main window.

The figures are still off in the distance, but having seen the light of the campfire, they are moving in that direction. Sarlana says we may need to move quickly. Load up the cart, fast

The seer smiles as Taden asks his question. This question is age old, the question of love. She pauses for a moment and then continues I will tell you this, love is something earned, not taken, something bought with sacrifice. Selaro's love for you may take many forms. Someday, she may love you, but will you truly love her? Go now, Taden, important decisions await you today

If you grapple them in the 5 foot deep section and then do a second check the next round you would succeed in pinning them and I would assume they would start to drown (based on con and rules for drowning) Does this make sense to everyone else. I would also say that a small character could also pin a larger character .. it's just more difficult .. but still possible

Well, our friend certainly seems to be feeling better Agela commented as the door closed behind the man. I feel with all my heart that he is telling us the truth, and if he is, that means we must do something .. Integrity and conviction pull us in this direction. Agela looked at the others and with certainty in her voice she continued I don't know where this road might take us but I, for one, am willing to find out. As Pelor's mighty outstretched hand guides me, I will follow this lead and bring justice to our friend

Agela picked up the key on the table. The Dream Catcher sounds like as good a place as any to get some rest. It is already late and with this weather, I don't think we should attempt travel. I believe this man has a good heart and Pelor has shown us that we should pursue this. I'll go ahead to bless the room, I hope to see you all there.

Her final act was to pick up the roll of parchment. Once secure in the room, I say we look over this and decide how to proceed further. She tucks it away and opens the door and heads across the street fighting the weather, wrapped up in her woolen cloak.

I don't know what happened to the picture but I have a 54% survival rate .. I'm going after my family too and I don't own a gun with a 2 year old in the house .. so that probably did me in. But I would give myself an additional 80% on top of the 54% considering I am a necromancer in my spare time.

*NOTE* Making assumption the entire party will head this way*

Working their way carefully down the stairs, the party continues further into the cave. Lighting a torch, Aurea follows Jeeves and his master past the cobwebs and down the cave. The torch flames touch the webs and peel them back as the fire dissolves them into nothing. Triallian scouts out the stairs looking for any obvious signs of treachery but finds none. Eventually the stairs lead into a large chamber. (Party at #1)

The stairway descends into an immense domed chamber. Seven short tunnels branch from the room in all directions, extending some thirty feet before ending in rounded walls. At the terminus of each passage, a thick chain dangles from an unseen high ceiling. Five of the chains bear colorful lanterns, but two hold nothing at all . Opposite the entry stairs (6), a bright green lantern containing what looks like a torch casting a weird, murky light about the room. Countless chips of glass and shiny metal inset into the chamber's domed ceiling reflect the light, giving the impression of starlight and fallen snow. The dome starts bout 10 feet off the ground and reaches an apex about 30 feet over the center of the room.
Below the domes peak, a long dais holds what appears to be a marble sarcophagus (2). A milky white bas-relief figure, perhaps a human, rests passively upon the sarcophagus lid. Unlike the rest of the tomb, this room is completely silent.

A&F
Heading along the coastal road, the small traveling party continued east. The journey was slow and could be dangerous since it took them away from civilization. Passing through first the low peaks of Ravenroost and between the forest of Tickwood and Shanks Wood, their travels were mostly uneventful. Enjoying the time together and the fresh air, the three elves felt right at home along the woods. It wasn't until they reached the Thistle River that trouble poked out it's ugly head.

Setting up camp along the Thistle River, the trio prepared a fire for the evening. Elves had little need for rest and a few hours of meditation would be all that they needed to press on. This night, however, as they cooked a hot meal over a hot fire, they were alerted to a sound coming from the woods to the north. Although they had chosen a spot close to the road, their fire had probably alerted some creature as to their presence.

Subject: Actions of a Mad Man

As Gafgarion acted, Nebulos struggled over how to respond to the situation. It was true that Necromancy was a forbidden form of magic, but Nebulos had always found the reasoning for this a bit obscure and unreasonable. For what he could tell it was just another way that society had found something evil in something natural. Why would the magic exist if not to be used. It's not like regular magic was twisted until it became necromancy. If it wasn't forbidden, Nebulos himself may have become a Necromancer.

However, something about Gafgarion's actions bothered him. This young man had been a bit of a coward, that much was true .. but to just kill him for what seemed to be spite. Nebulos didn't know if he had the stomach for such an act. On the one hand, he understood Gafgarion's concern .. but on the other hand .. if Gafgarion was so powerful, he needn't worry about one person going to "tell on him" at all. The more he thought about it the more Nebulos thought that Gafgarion did it just out of pure enjoyment. Any excuse to expand his undead army. He would certainly have to watch his back and choose his words carefully. Nebulos certainly wasn't keen on ending up another mindless zombie pet of Gafgarion, no matter how much he admired the art.

He decided to let it go and support his patron's decision I think he'll be less in the way as a walking corpse. There is no place here for cowards Walking over to the table Nebulos picked up the brooch and examined it. Interesting he thought as he placed it on his cloak. Anyone have any guess as to what this might do? If not, I guess we shall have to wait and see although I'm no good at activating magical items blindly. Perhaps there is some kind of trigger involved

Posting Initiative

The arena will be set the way you see it when you post. If someone posts before you then there actions will be a part of the arena's "current position" So basically it will be posting initiative. I thought of doing it other ways .. but this will be the easiest way and will avoid any conflict of two people wanting to do different things. It also gives you the option of waiting to see what someone else might do before you post .. like a hold action.

Anyone foresee any problems with this method?

Nebulos placed a wicked grin on his face as he examined the others. Nebulos he replied, his rough voice echoing in the chamber.

Stepping forward he continued Lord Gafgerion, your mastery of the necromatic arts is something I look forward to experiencing. I know that I will learn much from your powerful art.

As for you, Parsius, do not be concerned with these
Nebulos walked over to an undead warrior When the enemy strikes, it will be good to have those with no fear. I hope that your fear of the unknown does not slow us down. Next, Nebulos turned to the gnome. Whip, I see you share my enthusiasm for the art our patron has provided to help us. I look forward to seeing them in action. As for you, m'lady, I too am interested in the reward. I wonder what wonderful magic item our Lord has prepared for us. I know that a man of his power and reputation has something quite valuable in mind

Looking back over at Gafgerion to see his response, Nebulos waited patiently for the patron's instructions.
