Subject: Hoping for the best

Saying a quick prayer for the man's recovery (just a role playing prayer) Agela nodded to the man holding the antidote. It may be best to get him to the church .. but in this weather I am afraid he might freeze and slip into an even deeper unconciousness if we try to move him. The antidote might work and it is our best hope. I'm sure that if this man survives he will repay you for the antidote in the very least. Agela stayed with the man holding his hand and continuing to offer prayer up to Pelor.

Subject: Allustan's Proposal

As Allustan's house guests get to know one another, another elf enters the room. Elves outnumbering humans in this part .. and a dwarf and half-orc to boot. Even this human seemed special for some reason unknown to even the elven eyes. Allustan entered the room as the newest arrival just made her introduction. Ah .. please come with me. I see Purple Prose has received my proposal. You must be Trialliane. This way
He escorted the motley crew down a hall to a room that appeared more a board room than anything else. A mirror on the southern wall seemed to offer no reflection. Allustan ushered each guest into the room and the soft and decorative chairs around the dominant table in the center of the room were filled one by one.
I'm sure you are anxious to find out the reason for my summoning you. Some of you were hand selected while others have fallen into this fate. I understand if you are reluctant to assist me .. for this mission may hold some amount of danger. But I have confidence that each of you holds some small part of a puzzle that just might save the entire realm from a horrible danger He paused .. looking around the room into the eyes of each individual observing their reactions. Then he continued A great evil is building force in magical ways beyond even my scope. The first signs of a weapon against this evil are shown to me in an ancient tomb of mighty power. I was uncertain what this tomb might be until word of the recent adventurers in town came to my ears and I heard their plans for the Whispering Cairn. I believe this Carin might hold the key for a weapon that could be used against this evil. Allustan waves his hand and the mirror on the wall begins to depict a scene. A battle of wind warriors against a raging chaotic army. The rod of law thrust into Miska and shattered into pieces. As you heard Auric explain at the Feral Dog, the Rod of Law is a potent artifact. Although its pieces were scattered throughout the land, the Whispering Carin may hold one of these pieces. Even one piece is a very powerful item. I cannot, however let it fall in the hands of this adventuring trio. They are no doubt an unscrupulous bunch and I would fear to venture they might sell such a rod to the highest bidder. I cannot let this happen. So He looks around the room once more. Your task .. if you accept it .. will be to go to the Cairn, beat these other adventurers to the prize and return it safely. This is no easy task but I think you are the right ones for the job. What do you say?

Subject: Allustan's Invitation.

Grakk, Brahm and Aldaris walked towards Alustans home in diamond lake. It was not a far walk from the feral dog but far enough that they could stretch their legs and talk a bit more before arriving. As they approached the main entrance, the door opened and Allustan stood at the doorway. Come in, quickly .. He motioned to the three as they made their way up the walk. You too He spoke as if to someone in the shadows. Come on .. come out .. you have hidden long enough from their eyes. Join us. I have work for you all. Very important work. Come in and have a drink, play some dragonchess. I will explain it all when our last guest arrives shortly from the garrison. This last guest he spoke of was Lar'd Ner who was receiving instructions even know from Captain Tolliver Trask.

Back at the Garrison
Lar'd. the Captain began You are a good man .. and a fine guard. I understand you got in a bit of trouble this evenin' He stopped Lar'd from saying anything by raising up his hand as he continued quickly Nevermind that now .. I got a summons from Allustan and that takes priority. Actually .. You got a summons. He wants you for one of his wild ideas I imagine .. but if Allustan wants something, I'm not going to argue with him and he wants you. Tolliver scratched his red beard with his hand and continued Don't have the slightest idea what he needs from you Lar'd, but I know he always gives out the best rewards so I'd head on over their real swift like and see what he wants. Close the door on your way out He waved his hand as if to dismiss Lar'd and looked back down at his paperwork which he proceeded to pour into like a long dreaded assignment.

Allustan's sitting room was cozy and a small fire roared at the edge of the room. Although its flame had a magical quality to it and gave off a blue color instead of the typical red. A dragonchess board sat on a small table with a chair on either side. On either side of two couches in the parlor sat tables with books and trinkets. Some, sculptures of different materials in the design of dragons and griffins and other fantastic creatures. It was obvious by the decor that Allustan was quite and eccentric and indeed quite wealthy. He had set out food and beverage for his guests on a silver platter and had left them to their conversation while they waited.

Subject: Almost to the garrison

As Lar'd Ner walked the road from the Feral Dog to the Garrison, shaking his head at his misfortune and his bruised face and ego he sighed loudly upon approaching the garrison door. At the door he approached as two guards nodded at him. Before he could enter the garrison however, the guard spoke up. Lar'd .. Captain Trask wants to see you urgent like This couldn't be good. Lar'd gathered himself together and entered the garrison.

Centuries ago, long before the foundation of the Free City, a petty lord comanded the shores of the lake and the nearby iron and silver mines from a sturdy hilltop keep. Today, the refurbished ruin served as home to many of Free Cities militia and soldiers. They chiefly keep watch over the Liardfolk-infested Mistmarsh to the south. The bored soldiers of the garrison presented a rich soil for the cadre of clerics and paladins of Heironeous who provide much needed spiritual and magical aid to the warriors. A chapel to Heironeous was an obvious addition to the garrison.
Captain Tolliver Trask, a seasoned human warrior always encouraged his men to stay out of local business. He wasn't one to look kindly on drunken men getting into barfights, for example. Lar'd knew this and prepared himself for the worst.

Subject: A swift message

Aldaris , the message entered swiftly into the mind of the stone elf as he was getting acquainted with some new friends at the bar. Come to the house immediately. I have some important news to go over with you. Bring your friends if you want. We will need more help than you alone can provide The voice of Allustan was distinct in Aldaris' mind and Aldaris knew he had been sent a message of some urgency through a telepathic bond from his patron at his mansion. It seems that very little escapes the knowledge of the towns chief wizard.

Subject: A Hearty Meal

Agela walked up to an empty table and took a seat. She searched her coin pouch and found 1 shiny silver piece. She set the piece down on the table and settled into her chair rubbing her hands together to thaw off the cold. The fire was a welcomed site and the warmth of the room filled her with a rush of comfort.
A well needed meal would provide her the nourishment she would need for the journey home. She waved to the patron of the establishment. 'Ello friend. I would like to have a hearty meal of whatever you have cookin' on the fire. It sounds delicious and I am starving!

Before she could even receive a proper order .. Her thoughts were interrupted by a scream. A man had been stabbed and right away the door had closed as the attacker had fled. Agela rushed to her feet, running over to the fallen man. She lifted her hands in prayer to Pelor
Pelor, great and mighty sovereign power of all that is good and holy, I beseech you to save this man from this horrible fate that has befallen him. I call on your healing power to provide help where it is most needed
With the prayer completed Agela's hands glowed with a surge of healing power which she layed down on the wounded man saying gently in his ear Help is here sir .. stay with me ...

As peace was mentioned .. and the town guard shocked by the display of barbarism, the wizard waves his arms to complete the spell. In a flash, the three heroes vanish out of site as a magical energy envelops first the wizard and then his companions.

The spellcraft confirms that this is a trans location spell commonly known as Dimension Door.

The entire pub grows silent. Many look around for the heroes who are obviously not there anymore. The bartender shrugs At least they payed their tab

We are going into rounds now on the hunt so remember to edit in to your post each additional round as the rounds pile on.

Ariellyn and Welbry sneak ahead into the woods. They move quietly and swiftly and at last they see a movement in the underbrush ahead about 200 feet. It is a boar, and it is well hidden under the underbrush and apparently eating some roots. It might be the boar they are looking for.

Round 1> Wild Boar > 25/25 > None > Eating Roots

Round 1 Synopsis:
Ariellyn finds a good climbing tree and climbs to the top. Searching for a good branch, she finds a spot that she could easily survey the area and get a shot off with an advantage. Welbry gets his bow ready loading an arrow and waiting for a good shot. Grush also slowly heads towards the boar, ready to attack.

Round 2> Wild Boar > 25/25 > None > Listen: 12 (Hears Nothing); Continues Eating Roots

Round 2 Synopsis
Welbry's first arrow flies straight into the heart of the thicket where the Boar is eating his roots. It flies so directly that it hits the boar square in the side even though he is mostly covered by the underbrush. As the elven archer makes her way into a good vantage point she see's Welbry's arrows fly off in a blaze of glory. She wasn't quite ready, but I guess the chase is on.

Round 3> Wild Boar > 27/31 > Rage > The wild boar rages and charges
With fury the wild boar charges out of the underbrush. He see's only Welbry standing in the woods launching arrows at him and charges through the underbrush with a load squeal.

Round 3 Synopsis
Before the boar even reaches welbry his heart already stops beating. A number of arrows fired down into its neck stop send it careening towards Welbry in a dying heap. The boar lands just a few feet from the group. His body .. lifeless.

Auric's fist was already leaving his side before the guard even knew what was happening (A readied Attack) His fist swung squarely at the guards face landing a near perfect blow.

Auric's Attack 14 + 12 = AC 26 (Hit) (5 From str, BAB 5, 2 From Belt)
Dmg = 3 + 7 = 10 Subdual Dmg (3 from Fist, 5 from str, 2 from belt)

Auric's Initiative = 12 + 11 = 23
(4 from belt, 4 from improved initiative, 3 from dex)

The wizard and the rogue have gathered their things and head over to behind Auric. The wizard holds his hand out to Auric's leg as he weaves a spell in the air. The rogue calls out to Auric to calm him Not the time or place my friend .. lets go

As another figure from across the room began to detect her thoughts he began to hear a quiet voice Every time Auric tries to go on about these stories he always seems to get into trouble. This guy here can't even listen though .. what does he think .. we're just some thieves or con-men. If they knew what this Carin had they would .. Her thoughts stopped abruptly as she turned sharply in the direction of the man who had cast a prying spell on her. She whispered something to the wizard and they began to gather their things.

Perhaps if you had a brain in that head of yours you would realize that the whispering carin is a legend .. one we intend to unveil. We only stop in Diamond Lake because it is the closest town to the Cairn and we were sent by the Free City itself. The discovery of the Cairn treasures will bring fame and fortune to your tiny town. As the friends sat around the campfire and discussed the strange events that had been experienced .. They slowly one by one fell asleep. The morning came quickly but in the darkness of the forest, even as the sun broke it seemed dark and still. Aldern called to everyone. It is time. With a composite longbow strapped to his back and a quiver of arrows .. He motioned to a blanket on the ground which held more arrows and simple bows for anyone who needed one. We are at a loss without my dog but we will still be victorious. Some of the other groups have already headed out. We should make haste.

Subject: The rumor of the Cairn

Standing atop a table at the Feral Dog, Auric barks out a tale of adventure for the entire room to hear. Having already bought a round of ale for the entire pub, they are listening quite intently at the show. The Feral dog is the busiest and sleaziest tavern in all of Diamond lake but the large crowds make it ideal for storytelling. Especially since this lot is exceedingly gullible and wanting for a tall tale. Auric clears his throat with a swig of ale and continues the story
So, you ask. Why would a brave and well known band of adventurers like us seek out a place like Diamond Lake. I'll tell you. For you see, you are not just a place of mines and ore, but a place of rich history. Many thousands of years ago, long before the rise of human civilization, two ancient powers struggled to determine the fate of the still-forming multiverse. On the one side was a primal being called the Queen of Chaos, a tentacled horror from an age before ages With this, Auric reaches his hands out into the crown and a couple of men jump back in their seats at the sound he makes from his gullet. Against her stood the mightily rigid legions of the Wind Dukes of Aqua, the most cultured of the elemental lords who ruled before th birth of the living races, and who yet controlled an empire that spanned worlds Auric held his hands apart to show the vastness of the Aquan empire. Centuries of stalemate collapsed when the Queen of Chaos recruited her most potent ally, a ruthless Prince of Demons named Miska the Wolf-Spider. Miska and his demonic legions laid siege to the Wind Duke's territory, routing the elemental armies and snuffing out the culture of Aqua one world at a time. Something had to be done The entire tavern was on the edge of their seat entralled in the tale that the mighty adventurer wove atop the tavern table for all to see. The Wandering Dukes had to strike back so they wove a mighty weapon to undo their hated foe. Drawing upon the lore of a hundred different cultures, they constructed one of the most potent artifacts in history - the fabled Rod of Law Auric raised up his fist as if holding a rod in his hand. Eventually a great battle took place. On the fields of Pesh, the greatest of the Wandering Dukes plunged the Rod into Miska the Wolf-Spider. When the absolute Law of the Rod mixed with the Chaos woven in Miska's blood, a great planar rift erupted, shattering the Rod into seven pieces. The prince of Demons and the Aquaan Duke vanished into the rift while the parts of that rod were scattered. Silence came over the Feral Dog as Auric continued So, you may wonder what this has to do with us .. These dukes, you see, were buried in mighty tombs. The greatest tomb of all honored Icosiol. We believe that the very resting place of this tomb is nearby, burried and lost in time itself. With this he raised his ale mug high as ale sloshed out on the people gathered around. To Adventure! A roar of thunderous applaud could be heard through the town square from the pub as drunken men sang songs of Adventure to the hero in their midsts.

Act 1: The Whispering Cairn

A trio of Free City adventurers have come to Diamond Lake. Three unique members of an order on an important quest. These adventurers have made themselves quite visible amongst the town spreading their adventuring ideas. One, a human gladiator who wears a unique red and black leather girldle topped with the representation of a haunted female face goes by the name of Auric. He fancies himself the leader of the trio and wears the Champion's Belt from the Free city arena. A second Khellek, is a balding, dark haired human wizard. He wears a high collared red cape fastened with a skull clasp over a green jerkin and pants. His receding hairline reveals his advancing age, as do the white streaks at his temples. Khellek promotes a group called the Seekers, an adventurers group that is known to seek knowledge regardless the cost. He recently heard a rumor of a new chamber discovered in an allegedly "empty" tomb elsewhere in the cairn hills. It is one of the destinations this band of adventurers seeks. The third is a vivacious elven rogue and archer named Tirra. She is quiet but as a member of the Free Cities Thieves guild is not to be trifled with. As the three spend their excess of money in the town taverns, the buzz starts to circulate the town about a whispering Carin.

At a perfumed arcade known as the Emporium, Governor Mayor Lanod Neff rubs shoulders with common laborers awaiting appointment in the veiled corridor. in an adjoining antechamber, snakes and exotic dancers gyre to a sonorous weave of cymbals and seductive pipes. A floor below, a gaggle of grasping miners presses against the windowed door of a darkened cell, impatient for a glimpse of a two-headed calf.
Out in the street, a gang of rowdies screams obscenities at a curmpled halfling,, kicking it as if scrambling for a ball. Their drunken laughter echoes off shuttered windows and bolted doors.
In a tower-flanked fortress across the shadowy square, filthy men with nothing to lose, shout hymns to St. Cuthbert, clutching to their idealism and principles like cornered animals. Their wild-eyed chief minister smiles as he draws a cat-o-nine tailes across his bare back, awash in their adulation and in the spirit of his god.
Sounds horrible, but it's just another night in Diamond Lake

They sound quite mad and full of rage
They want to see us in a cage
We must depart this awful place
Or gruel on toast we're going to taste
