Oops! Was looking for a different-looking dwarf and picked up the 3e Monster Manual by mistake (I have books for 1e, 2e, 3e, and 3e5, and more...)

Mountain Dwarves are just a dwarven "offshoot" race that works the deeper caverns, but not as deep as he duergar. Except for appearance, the stats are no different from the Hill Dwarves ...

3e5 don't have them, so I just made his hair (formerly) black, but now mostly prematurely gray with black streaks ...

Subject: Maaht saves the day

The light seemed to be enough for Gorshak and Drassar to find nothing at all. However, the sharp eyes and intuition of Maaht brought him a certain amount of satisfaction when he found some scrapes that seemed odd.

Bracing on hand against the top of the up-pointing cone of rock, he leaned in to examine the scrapes he had found more closely. As his weight shifted, the entire stalagmite leaned away from Maaht, canting back toward the rock face. Then it began to open. Maaht could not keep the look of surprise off his own face, but was able to manage changing it to smug satisfaction relatively quickly.

Maaht heard Gamiates praise him, "Congradulations, Maaht, you found the trigger." He returned to Gamiates a large grin of thanks.

Maaht suddenly remembered how quickly the door had closed before, and he burst into motion, grabbing is gear as he ran toward and through the opening. He spoke as he ran, "No time! It closes quick! C'mon, C'MON!" He ran through the opening and a short distance into the new tunnel, then turned to make sure the others were following.

Subject: I think I can see where this is going ...

I just hope I'm wrong.

I have been trying to wangle a way for me (and the character) to "fit in", and get a feel for the game. In my opinion, there hasn't been enough interaction since my introduction for my character to get developed or or me to develop a repoire with the players.

I feel my only fault has been the lack of back-reading to help both of those issues along. Doing so would have helped to get a sense of the "history of style and method" used by both the players and the DM.

Unfortunately, it seems to be too late to correct that oversight. Regretful, that, because I have been truly impressed by the players, the DM, and the storyline.

Subject: Okay where is it ?

Been fippin' bacl and forth through the Q&A thread to find the reference as to weapon costs (or lack of them). I though I had seen something claifying that.

I can no longer find it, so I'll ask: Was there a mention of obtaining from the Armory free, or will there be a charge for what we choose (if we choose) from said Armory?

(projected) Post will contain:

If "free":
Tersoal will look in the Armory for magical staff (or staves). He will be looking for a Staff of Passage. Is one available in the Armory?

If not available, he'll look for magical bolts for his crossbow ...

If NOT "free", or after he returns from the Armory:
Ters will turn to Dusk and offer to attempt to identify at least some functions of the item he is curious about, at no charge. After all, he's one of the "company". What you have, you gift, if you can ...

I, too, would like tos see this get underway, and my forgetfulness has helped cause unnecessary delay. Will post soonest after answer ...

Subject: And it begins.

Keeping his eyes on the orcs as they moved to the far end of the "field", Kurok spoke at the same time as Elessarae, so he didn't hear her words. He spoke to no one in particular, but loud enough for all to hear, "Bootskull, eh? Got a game named fer 'im. Kinda like Rollerrock back home. Okay. No rules and they ain't gonna give us no time fer plannin'. Get the -- ummm -- skull to the other net."

"Right. Okay, don't think I need ta tell ya people that they ain't gonna leave ya alone just 'cause ya ain't got the skull. And we gotta play the same way, or we're had, fer sure! Gotta keep the thing in motion, keep passing it, if ya can. Run if ya can't. One of us'll try ta get to a place where we can be given the skull ta keep movin it."

Firstest:
[[ That said, he bounces once on his toes and Charges for the "skull", attempting to pick it up on the run and change direction to avoid being hit. Failing that, Kurok will keep his momentum to Charge the nearest orc to simply take out one of the "enemy" by making his knee bend the wrong way by fist or body-slam ... ]]

[[ If they get it first, he will simply Charge the skull-carrier, to body slam him in the knees and take him down. After all, he has to use at least one hand to carry the skull. He is actually expecting the carrier to hit him with the doggone thing ... ]]

Nextium:
[[ Getting up, he will Feint agin the next orc in range of him, while glancing about for the "skull" (assuming he doesn't have it). If he has the "skull", he'll Overrun any orc in his way, attempting to shoulder the orc's knee to bend the wrong way ... ]]

[[ If no orc(s) in immediate range, he'll Charge one to body-slam his knees as above (if without the "skull"). If he has the "skull", he'll run full-bore toward the "goal". I know, he's not the fastest, but if he can move it, it's worth the effort ... ]]

[[ It's a start ... Okay, so the role-player has never been a Bootskull-player ... For the record, I am aware of the attacks of opportunity my actions will draw, but if I can keep a few off of some of you, it's worth it. And I'm hoping for luck, while Kurok silently prays to Kharox for the same ... ]]

[[ And, Almerin, if any of the above is not correctly stated, please let me know. This "totally unarmed combat" is a weakness of mine. I am not "up" on all the "finesse moves involved, but will learn quickly. I figured the shoulder thing was possible to knock the opponent prone without tackling or grappling ... ]]

Subject: Another pair of eyes?

Maaht didn't like it, but searchng for hidden entrances or traps was not his particular strong point. But he did have considerable observational skills available. And he had to admit -- begrudgingly -- that Drassar was right. The cat-man and the dwarf could use their skills in tandem and maybe find something that Maaht could miss. Maaht had already proving his skill in battles and defense, but other, less visible skills often frustrated him, and much more often lately. But did the cat-man have to be so sure of himself? Sometimes that was really aggravating. But the worst part was that he was most often correct when he was sure he could do something. But I'm still gonna look, too, also, anyway, just for my own stab at it, he thought smugly.

<"Thank you, Gamiates. Good lad! Opportune and helpful that light will be! So! Well now, Drassar-laddy, Let's get to it, eh? Your tracking, my detecting, and Mister Gamiates as our torch puts us off to a better start than I had imagined when our friend disappeared on us. 'Scuse us , please, Mister Red-Leather. We got a job to do."

Oh, now that was gonna earn the dwarf some sleepless hours again for the next few nights! he thought. As if he had no skills at all to offer, eh?

Maaht had developed a subtle way (to him) of aggravating those who aggravated him. While on watch, he would lob tiny stones at the heads or bodies of those who had dared to arouse his wrath. Sometimes it would wake them up, sometimes not. And if it woke them, Maaht received a small satisfaction that they hadn't got a full night's rest. No fool he to do it only on his watch. Sometimes he would wake up and toss one from his own pallet at an offender, then roll over and go back to sleep. His particular favorite target was Grakh, for he slept lightly, as their kind was wont to do. But Maaht hadn't yet been able to get the goody-goody to lose his temper. And he hadn't earned Maaht's "punishment" lately ...

As the Gorahak, Drassar, and Gemiates approached the wall to make their attempt(s) to find the door again, Maaht stepped slightly to the right and moved with them, and the light, to look closely and find what they could not ...

[ Search +10 (hoping for a good roll), looking for footprints or drag marks, since that is more within my skill range (I hope). Specifically searching for footprints or drag marks that are not ours and/or not made by any of us. ]

Then why does the description state:
... when ever you successfully use your artificer knowledge class feature (ECS 31) ...

?

You don't see a that as a related prerequisite? For some reason, I do. But then again, I dont have the volume reference(S) to explain the context, now that I think about it. Nor can I find them online.

Therefore, not having the necessary reference(s), I can't, in all good conscience, use the skill or the item.

Sorry.

Subject: Monocle?

While wearing an artificer's monocle, when ever you successfully use your artificer knowledge class feature (ECS 31) to detect
an item's magical aura or you cast detect magic and have at least 5 ranks of Knowledge (arcana), you can spend 1 additional minute studying the item. If you do, you can identify the abilities of that item as if you had cast identify upon it.

Tersoal doesn't have Knowledge (artificer), as I don't have the volume with the info. The skill is a "class feature" (class unknown) and a prerequisite for use of the Monocle, so Ters couldn't use it if he had it ...

However, now that I have submitted the correct spells list for him (still waiting on acceptance and/or approval), he has "Identify" ...

Topic: The Red Dragon Inn
Subject: And then Wyrm strings in ...

Wyrmsting entered the establishment yet again after a brief absence for mind-cleansing solitude. Uncertain which door he would pass through first this evening, he instead opted for a short-term decision : he headed for the bar, where he would order his usual glass of warm milk with a mint sprig.

As he had approached the Inn, he had heard talk of a theft involving a cake, Alaccrity, Grugg, and a hithertofore-unknown hero. By the time of Wyrm's arrival, though, all evidence of any set-to or brouhaha had been cleaned up and out. Looking over the large common room as he passed through it, he noticed quite a few of the more popular of the Inns "notables", as he called them. Some he knew, some he didn't -- very well. Others he knew not at all, but those were just friends he hadn't met yet. Also present were quite a few that he had "seen in passing" but had never been able to pin down for a conversation -- not yet.

He always enjoyed his visits to the Red Dragon Inn, never having to bring money for drinks, or pay for the beverages of others. He didn't gamble, either. Any gear he needed was held in lockers in the respective rooms he gamed in, the contents of each depending on the persona he was assuming at the time. And while he had noticed provisions for locks on the lockers, he had seldom seen any used. Such was the air of trust and comraderie at this wonderful, and sometimes wondrous, establishment.

Picking up his glass of milk, Wyrmsting lifted it in salute to Lysk and Sibelius, then "offered it" again at Meri and Dragon Mistress. As he pulled the glass to him to take a sip, he caught the last of loud words upstairs. It sounded like the voice of Almerin, but Wyrm souldn't be certain of it. 'poke Grugg with his scepter?". Yup, that would be the Toad King, alright.

Wyrm hadn't decided yet as to where his presence would first be felt, so he remained at the bar until the decision was made, looking at the rommon room occupants and smiling at the general feeling of good will ...

Sprawling on the cave floor as he did, hard and unceremoniously, Maaht screamed through cleched teeth in frustration. As he scrambled to his feet, frustrated, he watched the thief use a device to open a section of rock wall, pass through, and close it before he could move a foot.

Maaht sat down on the floor of the cave. He pulled his knees toward his chest and placed his elbows on those knees, looking sideways and up at Drassar.

"Cat man? I think you're right about huntin' him down. But we can't follow his trail without passing this wall. We can either try to open this again, or sit here until someone from the other side opens it. And we know someone is on the other side. Or we can try to find another opening to that area. any thief worth his salt would not have only one escape route. What'cha think?"

"Hey, Gorshie! Drassar and I have an idea. Wouldjz go ask the others to join us here in our new digs?" Chuckling at his own joke, he waits to see what ideas Drassar has to add to his own.

Subject: I disagree, Kaelyn (but I'm checking to make sure)

So far that's two people who have referred to my thinking (or lack of it).

Whether or not chain-wrapped hands would make me "armed" or not, for me to hit them, I would have to be in range for their own AOO's because the chains worn as wraps would NOT extend my reach ...

And using the chains as weapons would cause a non-proficiency (unfamiliarity) penalty.

But setting the chains aside for a bit: You mention dimension-hopping? Can someone who would recognize a spellbook be "hopped" outside to retrieve one for all casters to use?

Are there any Illusion or Alteration spells available from any of the casters that could be used to make one or more of us look like them?
