Topic: I am new to the inn. Hi how are you and nice to meet you.
Subject: Hi

Hey, welcome to the inn.
Before we continue I suggest you take this towel as my first piece of advice (you'll need it)!
If you're looking to chat with others about gaming, the Common Room's probably the best place to go, if you're looking for a game, check the General Forum and recruitment threads or, if you want to share ideas, head round to the creativity forum.

Enjoy your time at the inn.

Hi, it's good to have some new blood here, I'm sure you'll find the Inn a great and friendly community like all us regulars do (you've clearly worked out how posting works which, like computers, is still anathema to me).

"I see how it is..." Markas nodds, leering at the guard, "Following the Apocalypse so closley you can't see past the ideals? Ever tried helping someone who can help you back? Or is that too far for you to go? After all what have we Remenants ever done for you? Won't you let me in because I didn't fight at Hoover Dam? Or is it because unlike your precious Arcade I've got blood on my hands?"
Setting his jaw, the Remenant looks up, fighting down a few choice words before hissing.
"I'll be waiting here unless you let me in, just tell Arcade when you've got the chance: 'Amicum obses conscienta est. Fratum Militum obses praeterium tempus est. Amicum in ostium maneat.'"
Taking the defender, Markas goes to lean against the wall, hoping his mangled Latin would suffice.

OOC: I knew those Latin lessons would come in handy.

Vengance, it could be said, was a more powerful force than any mage could harness...so when faced by a vengeful mage...run. Leaping forwards, Takra swings her sword down, catching the unsuspecting celians off guard with her ferocious countercharge. As it swings down the blade plunges deep into one of the men's shoulders, sending him staggering backwards onto the ice...and falling beside his other injured comrade.
Meanwhile, the Celian mage screams as his feet and ankles are torn up by the spikes of ice and he writhes in his prison, definetly unable to cast.
As Lantaris struggles to his feet, lashing out at the downed Celian and knocking him back onto the ice, you hear a shout from Rege',
"Everyone back...this is going to hurt!"

Reaction check results
Tarka: 10
Crystal: 18
Lantaris: 24

Despite the alchohol in her system, Crystal manages to stagger back into the mouth of the corridor, whilst Lantaris also dives to saftey, however Takra, perhaps too caught up in her rage to hear, only staggers back a second too late...as the Greenjade Quarrel slams into the ice-encased mage...and sends shards of frozen shrapnel hurtling accross the room.
As the dust clears, you see bodies sprawled accross the entire chamber...none of them Takra's...

"Sheul damn-" Rege' doesn't get much further as there is the sound of footsteps behind you and voices conversing in a foreign language...Celian from what you can tell.

"It seems that time has not improved Anchor...nor mellowed it." Karrain shakes his head, turning from Barbant to Thomas. "...already we have lost two good men today, if we are going to face this threat then we must at least match the rate of attrition they inflict upon us. That means finding this Khan...then ramming the information he gives us down whoever's responsible's throat...hard."

"Oh, trust me, he's available." Markas looks up at the guard, his eyes gleaming. "And as for the NCR...if the sixty shots I carried were enough to stop them, then they wouldn't be around to agitate either of us."
"As for my reasons for seeing him...I've got something for him, from Nevarro, don't worry, it's not a weapon, you took it already, remember? So, unless information is lethal you'll let me in."

"Alright." Markas grimaced, handing his weapon gingerly over to the guard. "Now, perhaps you could tell me where the...warrior who fought at the battle of the Dam could be found?"
What was it they had called the man...a 'Remenant' an all too accurate description of what was left of the Enclave for Markas' tastes. One that would change.

Alright, now suspecting that one of my players has dropped out (sorry if I'm wrong Haruspex) I do need a 3rd player for Flux Wars. Preferably not a mage but having 3 wizards in one group is always fun.

So, anyone up for some RPing? In a semi-freeform world?

Subject: For the Enclave! ...by the way, here's my gun.

"Well..." Markas pulled out the plasma defender, one of the last things he had left to remind him of his old life...and one of the last things he had to keep himself safe.
"...are people likley to attack me with a gun like this by my side...and are they more likley to attack me without it? So, if you do let me in with my sidearm, then will that not serve to reduce violence? Also, if I do decide to fry a few brains with this weapon, since this place is so violent it'll probably be those of the more...destitute, ie: those who can't afford weapon like this to keep themselves safe."
Markas' vaguely unnerving grin hung between the men. He had hoped that his words would, at the very least distract the two guards from his still-concealed trench knife, reffering back to the defender and how he was likley to use it 'should' imply that he had no other weapons...should being the operative word in that assumption.

Considering that Chambers is your closest current approximation to a psychiatrist I'm not sure where Crystal's mental state lies...

Anyway, here's some more lore which will probably become relevant later on.

THE LANDS OF SIREN

The world that Coast is part of is known collectivley amongst scholars as Siren. It has many lands and many seas, however the ones nearest to coast are as follows.

Celia
The term for the lands controlled by the Celian Empire, such territory is mostly fertile and temperate, attributing much to the power of its people. It stretches from the north of the Inner Sea, in which Coast lies, to the rugged Tundra of Arkos, to the east, the deserts of Sulthein, to the south east and the misty valleys of Marin the rumoured land of the elves. It is not mountainous, save to the far north and the extreme east, where its Greenjade Mines are situated, here thousands of Vekth, Myanmade and Elfin slaves toil in hideous conditions with the mortality rate only just lesser than the influx of new slaves.
Celia is divided into several provinces, each ruled over by a duke or prince of one of its noble or royal families, its capital constantly moves between which dynasty is in power, currently the Allerion Family from the north eastern province.
Currently the Celian Empire is seeking to expand its territory, invading Arkos and Sulthein (as well as Coast) from where it can launch strikes upon the League Entire and sieze yet more seams of Greenjade to fuel its war economy.

Kech
The Myanmade homeland, Kech is a jungle-wrapped province of the continent of Fior, which lies to the south west of Celia and the direct west of Coast. Completley overrun by the Celians the Myanmade who survive in their ancestral home live a pitiful existance, their population being steadily whittled away by their conquerers' purges or by the monthly slave convoys that bring much needed manpower to Celia's Greenjade Mines.
When Kech was origionally invaded by Celia the dispirate Myanmade tribes united under their Puth'Ashal (which literally translates to Mighty Overlord) Kilbiaz Thrullwing who was elected to that position by their Elders. Leading a brutally effective campaign against the Celians, Kilbiaz was eventually ousted when, after prompting from the King of Fior, the Elders surrendered. However, Kilbiaz took what was left of his tribe and a few others and cut through the Celian lines to their docks, escaping accross the sea. Kilbiaz now serves as Dragon's High Marshall and Guard Captain in Coast, determined to bring the Celian Empire down in flames.

Sulthein
The home continent of Kravos Al'Ral, Sulthein is home to sevral unique races and, as such, has been targeted by the Celians as appropriate for conquest as they seek to stamp out all opposition to the 'true' Panthenon.
Arid and inhospitable, save for its networks of canyons, Sulthein will be difficult for the Celians to subdue, however with a massed legion of Elves promised from Marin the fall of this land seems far more likley than before.

Pandrakkar
A continent south even of Fior (yet to the north west of the lands controlled by the League Entire) Pandrakkar is, apparently, a wilderness made from glass which constantly cracks and reforms due to arcane pressures, much like tectonics, below it. Little else is know of it save, that the last explorer to venture there was slain the first mile in from the beech by...as his few recovered notes said...Glass Revenants. No-one has been foolish enough to send an expedition since.

"Quite right." Karrain refocuses his mana, hissing a new string of Anathemum, this time directing spikes of mana directly at the floor around Barbant, magical force shield or no gravity would still take its toll on the assassin...or at least on the masonry that would strike him. With a final control word the Sacrelarch sends his power down into the spikes, having them detonate.

"No, why is that?I only showed up to see if a hunch was correct. Kinda new to the area, hope to be gone soon."

Grendar eyes you wryly, straigtening.
"Hunches in Moonstair will see that you get to know the area very well...starting with its cemetaries. Certain knowledge is all that counts..."

"Well, Grendar, I don't think i've been shot at yet.Almost stabbed, potentially poisoned, blinded by the light of the surface among other things. But not shot at. That would be a new one."

"...Blinded." His frown deepends before clearing all too quickly. "Hopefully you've learnt to keep your eyes open then, if your escape last night was anything to go by."

*looks at him and sharpens his dagger*

"I read a book in the library at the academy there, but it only had what the legends that people say in the streets. How do I know I can trust what you say. The last person who said that tried to poison me. So you need to give me more than that."

"I wonder why," Grendar mutters, looking closley at the dagger.
[Passive Perception Success: You notice that below the cloth of his impromptu eyepatch, Grendar's muscles are moving as if a second eye is regarding your weapon.]
"Consider this...Takley, you can take up my lead, follow me on this and potentially find the last copy of Lolth's Codex...yes, the holy book of a fallen god and history of your people all in one bundle, gorgeous isn't it. Or you could try to get to it again tonight and perhaps even survive."
He continues walking from the camp, dissapearing into the shadows.
"Oh, and incidentally, if you point that butter knife at me again my advice will become distinctly more...unfriendly."
--------------------------------------------------------
Cassandra whethers Thassal's outburst well over the first few minutes of their travel...however as those minutes begin to stretch to an hour she finally reins your horses in, turning to the mage with narrowed eyes.
"Alright, two things, Thassal. First, and most importantly, we are on a road frequented by bandits, unless you want to be ambushed I strongly suggest you be quiet. Second, as patient as I am the people I work for are not, whine every second of the way and you'll end up more miserable than you were in that tower. Now," Cassandra's voice softens, "I know you're a nice man and haven't led the easiest of lives but please try to adapt to this new one. I'm giving you a chance to change, please take it with minimum fuss..." She stops suddenly, whirling to look at the semi-circle of men that have gathered before you from the shadows.
"Oh, go on m'am, we want to see the bit where you kiss his ego better." The brawniest of them chuckles, fingering a massive club. "Although there are certainly others more deserving of the silken toutch of-" His leer and words are cut off as a throwing dagger plunges into the man's throat, sending him crashing to the ground as Cassandra rises up to stand on her stirrups, an elegant, thin blade in one hand.
"Yokel wretches! Do you not know the import of your actions? The very Gods themselves will curse your names for daring to insult I, Princess Avessia of Oe-Lec! Behold, as my Archmage and guide summons his fell powers to summon a servant that shall strike the down."
Even as Thassal registers his companion's verbal cue, he suddenly feels a pulse, the remanents of his Detect Magic spell picking something up...normally its duration should have worn out, unless something really dangerous or powerful was coming their way.
---------------------------------------------------------
Looking up, the Pilgrim smiles at Damir, gesturing for him to take a seat.
"Wise words, my friend, and not wasted upon my ears. Here, you must be hungered by your travels." Looking to the side, Damir notices a plate of food that he was certain wasn't there before steaming on a rock. Looking back at his newfound companion he gets his first good look at the Pilgrim's features.
"Please take a seat...the wilderness minds not whether you sit upon a fallen trunk or overturned bolder."
A Half-Elf, tall, black haired and with a noble complexion, around his neck rests a green scale as would an amulet. Damir also notes a blade slung on his left (making the Pilgrim presumably right-handed) and a series of rings marked with strange symbols save for two, one bearing the symbol of Avandra, the other of S'hiras Ahran.
"So, tell me, what brings you here from...the north if my estimates are correct? Not to many travellers come that way."

It was, Razor hoped, a familiar sight to see a man carrying a bundle through the streets, a child's body wrapped in the cloth of his cloak. Perhaps the people thought him mad, perhaps not, after all, man was inclined to believe in ludicrous tales as long as such tales didn't involve him.

So, on the assassin strode, making for the city gates, his eyes regarding the guards coldly.
"On the authority of your king I will pass." Half way an order, half way a threat, just as it had been long ago.

Damned garish assassins these days, Karrain mused to himself as Varis' desperate words bought him a few seconds to cast, you wouldn't be caught dead in Old Ethros City with a cape like that...probably because Sy'karios or I would have set it on fire...
"Immolate." The word was barely a whisper as Karrain guided the mana up Barbant's cape with a few mental pulses of Anathemum, unless the man's ungodly fasion sense or tools prevented the spell's climax, at the very least the garish cape would be reduced to ash in a brief, ferocious inferno, if the spell did come to some fruition, those same flames should play out accross Barbant's body, the streams of mana acting as conduits for heat like columns of hot air.

You've now all got basic traits (including Rege') mostly this is presenting you with a vague outline of either how you can effect, or how you can develop your characters as they level up through RP experience (remember that your trait-based powers will evolve through RPing and your basic powers will evolve through conventional means).
Speaking of which, I'm also adding experience into each character...

Lantaris' hands shoot down, plunging into the pressure points deep enough to cause pain, but not quite deep enough to incapacitate the Celian, who lashes back with his only weapon available, his head, striking Lantaris and dislodging him from his position on top of the man, leaving the two sprawled upon the icy floor, scrabbling to counterattack.

Meanwhile Crystal is shocked as the mage opposite to her curses as the power he begins to draw upon disperses, the Celian perhaps revealing his instability by failing to muster enough power to even raise a spark, let alone cast anything.

On one side of the room Takra's spar swings through the air, however, as with the Celian, the spell is less than impressive and the soldier is easily able to dodge, although he struggles to keep his footing whilst several of his comrades advance. Some making their way past Lantaris and his struggling foe and to where Takra stands, vengance blazing from her eyes, before combat is joined, however, a second quarrel hurtles between them, missing its mark before ploughing into one of the soldiers still on the ice, burying itself in the man's abdomen, sending him sliding back a few paces, on his last legs.

Reok nods to the nobleman before striding off in the direction he had indicated, whichever idiot had decided to build a city this big was fooling themselves...a few determined men with torches could bring the place to its knees in a matter of hours...continuing along the train of thought Reok began to idly search the streets for about a dozen other prospective arsonists, just in case, giving up when he heard the clatter of hooves...one of the wagons that had been mentioned no doubt.
Turning, the barbarian steps out in front of the horses holding up a hand.
"If you're going to this library of your's then I'll jump on board..." He trails off when he notices the familiar armoured figure from Trean's boat sitting in the back. "Big city, small world, eh Matrim? It look's like everyone want's to go to this library today."

Had Telas been in a rational frame of mind, he would probably have tried to talk the men out of their current course of action...then again, had he been in a rational frame of mind, he wouldn't have been on that road at that time...with a large sword close at hand.

As such he didn't so much as reply as launch himself, screaming, at the closest man, blade sliding from its shoulder sheath with the hiss of pure steel, swinging at Bem. Men like him had murdered his family then expected to be hailed as heroes, at least, the farmer consoled himself later, he didn't try to justify his actions with hollow words.

As for a CE group, you could always have some kind of enchantment preventing them from killing each other, perhaps amulets they couldn't take off or something...

Celtia and I looked into this a few days ago for the TSC setting, we reckoned that 200 years from when the game's we've got running are over black powder will begin to be used.
Since we're using the 4e rules we then went and worked out an actual class that could use it and unique weapon rules (it didn't count as a melee or ranged weapon), Celtia has more details though, I might ask him to post...
