Subject: About setting

Is this mirror universe campaign going to be set before or after the Terran Rebellion? If before, then has Spock become the Terran Emperor? And, if after, then how far along are the rebels in their cause? I ask for sake of motivation for my character's goals- and hope it isn't a trouble!

Thank you in advance

This is sounding better and better. I'll be checking out those links soon enough- in the meantime, I might play me a command officer, sneaky and devious enough to stay above their cutthroat crew while trying for a place in the bigger scheme to cause corruption...

That sounds like a lot of fun. Alrighty, I'm on board. I'll check back for updates on things such as timeline- actually, I'll need a sample of our timeline for my research and character creation. Hope it's no trouble!

Ooo- freeform gaming, here we go!

I'd be delighted to join!

I've always wanted to play a game like this, Star Trek style, being a big fan of TNG and TOS; however, I know virtually nothing of the other series beyond their basic premise and cast, putting me at a disadvantage with the mirror universe. Still, I am more than willing to scour Memory Alpha to get the grit on it all. I am also willing to download the appropriate PDFs; which ones would I need?

That, and is Star Trek RPG similar to any of DnD, WoD, or True20? Sorry if it feels like I'm babbling- but I hope this guages more interest!

Topic: Make an Evil Core Class!
Subject: Interesting stuff

You know, I'd just been thinking, for whatever reason, about how it would be like to play in an evil game. I know they exist, and that some have been successful, but I'd always figured it'd be significantly more challenging to play an evil game right, let alone in general, than any good game; one would suppose there'd be a much higher propensity for backstabbing, betrayal, infighting, and more of the same to occur in such a setting (and, by the sound of what Alacrity, Tann'Talas, and Schnozzle are saying, it's fairly true).

I do quite your suggestion, Keeper, and give you props for playing evil in a good group for so long! It sounds like you really need to know what you're doing, but that you had a lot of fun with it, too!

What I would contribute, if it were possible and alongside Keeper's no-kill pact, would be something along the lines of a direct reason in the plot for the characters to cooperate with one another. Whatever it may be- who knows; say, overthrowing a good government in place of a divine tyranny they all believed in, or slaying a benevolent faction in order to gain a shared villainous power- I think there'd have to be something to turn these guys into partners. They'd be evil, sure, but evil with similar intentions- maybe think anti-heroes- do you suppose that would be an achievable scenario?

I'd also imagine that chaotic evil would be discouraged in such a game, unless the chaotic evil character were forced to comply with the rules through intimidation. (Which may end up producing some sort of bizarro Stockholm syndrome situation.)

I must say I have never heard of this stuff, living too far away from Pittsburgh, but I always love a bit of local trivia here and there!

I personally thought for sure, Odyson, that you had just made that up. Must have been a lot of fun to bring Froth'n'Slosh into the inn like that.

Schnozzle, that really is a terrific find you've stumbled upon!

Hahaha-- SirSadaar knows his Star Wars backwards and out, he's my favourite bet for a good game of SWRPG. I implore you to join us-- you'd be a perfect fit, and it's a unique setting for us all (I think)!

I'm no D/GM, and I'm not setting anything up anytime soon- but best of luck in your game search!

Heeyy, good to see new faces at our inn!

An enormous man with black hair steps up from a table nearby and claps you on the shoulder. "Good day to you, friend," he says with a broad smile, "and welcome to our inn. In the words of my director, a miss I-Binary, may you be alive and well in days to come."

Evidently the subordinate Halvard Bell has missed the pamphlet on the wall...

That's very true. In all truth, I'm not exactly sure how domains truly work, but am overhauling the character to go with something a little more in the buffing department. Protection should be key, I think.

I looked at a cleric of St. Cuthbert, but found it too restrictive for RPing. Might go with protection and travel if I follow Fharlanghn.

My account is called IBinary; I haven't started a sheet yet, but I am progressively working on a cleric for the game.

He's a pretty typical cleric who worships Pelor (chosen domains are good and healing); I'm not very experienced with this sort of thing and thought a more conventional approach would be best as a learning curve. I hope that's okay with you.

I've never played 3.5 ed, so, like SirSadaar, I think I'll need a fair lot of assistance with character building- but I'd absolutely love to join.

I can play a male sorcerer, bard, or wizard, likely specializing in team support/defence or magical healing, but I can definitely take an offensive position. It honestly depends on where the game is going.

Astrid, these are beautiful knits you are doing, and the drawings are quite lovely! I had no idea you were such a jack of creative trades! The dragons are quite nice, the detail you put in their scales in particular really makes them pop, and the colour bug is always great^^

If you wouldn't mind, I'd love seeing more of your art; that, and I'm very sorry to hear about your RL situation. All the best

Topic: Memorial Day
Subject: Contribution

I am not of military heritage; I don't come from a line of fighters but of poor farmers and merchants. I and my folks in Canada don't have much to say about this sort of thing for the most part, but I feel it appropriate to contribute to this thread with a story of my own family.

My mum's father- we called him Papa- was Russian, and he was enlisted in what I would guess would be the Russian army in those days, likely under the earlier Soviet Regime. He later escaped from Russia, changing his last name in the process, but during his days in the war he never fought at the front lines- I believe he was a part of those who managed one of the Russian concentration camps around Siberia.
Even as a younger person, Papa had an awful upbringing full of brutal, nasty things that were done to him that I never was able to hear about; he died too early, and my mum's mother (Oma) was never interested in telling them to me; but I do know that the war left deep and terrible scars upon his memories which haunted him all the way to the grave. I don't know what he did at his camp, or how he escaped the war, but those are very dark places...

I wish I could have known him better. I wish so much that I could have heard his stories, because they now are lost forever. Maybe I will find them somewhere from someone who knew them or Oma herself. I think it would be wise for all of us to learn of these stories from our elders even just to receive a simple reminder of the luxury we have of peace and freedom-- it didn't come at an easy price for most of us.

Wishing you all well on Memorial Day.

Subject: I can think of some

Although I don't have any RP resources myself- no books, expansions, or anything, besides a few Star Wars Saga Ed. pdfs- I would really like to try out a different approach to Star Wars with a more exploration-type theme. Something with cliffs, caves, grappling hooks, and big evil things lurking around corners I'd try playing a scoundrelly treasure hunter myself.

Wouldn't mind doing something with ghosts and spirits in World of Darkness, too!

As for DnD- I've never really gotten a chance to play through a complete (or even reasonably paced) game of DnD, but I do want to try DMing someday. Probably 3.5 or even 4th ed to begin with.
