DM's dearly love these sorts of encounters. No matter what the party does, someone is going to get hurt - providing the DM with some serious comic entertainment.
Of course, any good player worth his salt relishes in the chance to smack his annoying party members without fear of any sort of retribution.
It's a win-win,right? Well, except perhaps for the poor sap getting smacked around.
