rolls a 5. (six-sided, right?)
He will use his sling.
If it comes close to melee, he will hop/sneak off the cart, hide under the wheels or somewhere, and backstab where possible; he really wants to get one of those ugly behemoths in the achilles

He also thinks those hungry magic trees ought to grab the orcs for lunch!

just got a note from relatives in upstate SC where gas lines are long, pumps are out and 10 gallons cost $51, He said, "By the gods! That's 10 rollup teams!)

offense? No offense was taken or even considered. It was a fun give and take of words creating a cute conversation. I loved your "comeback"! (As you can see from my formal post, it made an impression!)

Rat loves this group and the conversations.

scurries to the front with Anvil's message, and then follows behind Hammer hustling back to the "rear" for the fight. Rat will hold back initially during the action flinging with his sling from the rear. (rear compared to the fight locations) Rat has never seen an orc before, and he had thought them to be something like wild hogs, but a conversation with T'Sal sort of put the fear of the gods in him and he is anticipating 10 foot behemoths with tusks and fangs. He envisions back-stabbing one with a slash through his achilles heel. But first the sling.

a good manager offers proper bribes to the RUGs and always gets a good roll. I think we NEED the initiative.

On the other hand, with the 5 of us, and the 5-8 wagoneers and two fierce dogs, we can take 8-10 of Slugbait-type Orcs!

acting on Anvil's direction runs 15 feet behind the last cart and begins igniting timber and brush to deter or slow down the orcs. He is quick with his flint. He drags some smaller pieces of timber and logs and brush across the road and assures they are lit. It may not be a magnificent pyrotechnic job, but it is the best he can do in less than ten minutes. Out of the corner of his eye he sees Anvil watching out for him. When he is done, he intends to hop on the last cart with sling readied. (and maybe with the stones from Hammer available) Rat hums "Come On Baby, Light My Fire" to himself as he works. (Is he thinking of T'Sal or the fires he is igniting, or both?)

give me five minutes, with my tinder and flint, I have it all to start 3-4 brush fires; someone cover my back, I will scamper around, light them and then hop on a wagon for us to 'trot' with my sling out .....

that said, I will do whatever Anvil decides

and concurs - stay together. Concurs, head to the camp. Concurs, leave nothing for the Orcs if possible. Suggests setting fire to the forest/road which the loggers just came back from to stop/slow down the Orcs. Would only take moments and then we bug out.

makes sense to Rat. We should make sure to not get lost, and with 10 (the wagon 5) we have more power in numbers. HOWEVER, let's warily approach the wagons and the friendly voices, just in case they aren't "taken over". (We don't have these silver weapons and stuff for nothing.)

Rat says lets approach the wagon and "wait" with hopeful friendlies.

Subject: Rat heeds Anvil's directions.

He moves to the side of the road, stays low, keeps his mouth covered as best as possible, continually checks warily in all directions, and keeps pace with Anvil and his calling out to the beings ahead. Rat, can barely see anyone other than Anvil, Hammer, and the dogs, and he is probably very hard to see himself.

He will rush to support Anvil, if attacked, or will move quickly towards any Adventurer on the team that calls out. He will not approach the presumed wagon group unless Anvil directs. His mode will be to sneak behind any enemy and get in a serious backstab.

the more it seems time may be of the essence, so perhaps a verbal answer and movement to save the wagons and supplies nd people, etc..... is in order. Let's adventure!

fanning out - two left, one right (Rat?), and Anvil + 1 responds from the middle of the road to the "camp". If OK, we all go in. If not ..... Anvil's call. Dogs with Anvil.

T'Sal's suggestion is as invaluable as her fine lookin' body. (sigh)

Rat knew Anvil wasn't chastising him and was merely jealous of the halfling's cunning, aggressiveness, and dexterity.

Rat hears Anvil directing them to follow the wagon tail after the wagons. He secures the satchel with his knapsack, so it easy to cary, leaving his hands free. With his sling in hand, and the silver dagger readily at his belt, he heads off with the group. Rat keeps his eyes and ears cautiously on the task at hand, but can't help occasionally glancing at the alluring T'Sal. He wonders if either of the two dogs are big enough for him to ride .......

who would have guessed it? The whole idea of the diversion was to get us off and to miss the "train". He wonders if it is closer back to town or to the camp? Is the wagon trail so obvious that we cannot miss it? How do we blend the new member into the team?

Thoughts from the youngsters?????

diligently checks out the captured, interesting satchel for traps or alerts. They have agreed Anvil, as leader, will open it, if deemed safe. Whatever is in the item will be appropriately used and/or shared.

Then he understands the adventurer team will head back from the diversion to the carts.

But first, Rat runs over to T'Sal and pats her on the back (He is yet too shy and awkward with the opposite sex to cop a feel) and says "I'm glad you are OK. We were worried."

As he does so, he sees Anvil go to retrieve his spear and the tree high-tailing it away.

He addresses the satchel .........

to first check traps and open satchel and then head back to the carts and tell them about the tree-monster encountered.

Roll has been sent to SD.

the only "die roller" Rat can find (and used before with SD) is in the armoury section of this site, and it asks for the number and die size to roll - and there is no place to list "checking for traps". That Rat must be one dumb adventurer, and he needs further detailed help.:-/

nears full recovery, he breaks into a big smile, especially as he sees that T'Sal and the others are all OK. He places the satchel on the ground where he picks up his knapsack and personal stuff and puts himself back together. He looks to everyone, especially the pretty Dark Elf, and says "Guess I'd better check this thing for traps and hopefully we can see what's inside. Do you guys agree?" He awaits their comments or affirmation.

Rat is thinking the satchel had better be checked for traps before opebibg. He is also thinkig he should check for traps, and then let the "strongest/most con (Anvil?) then open it for the group. Rat is presuming that if there are "rewards" inside, then they are shared by the team, with getting 'first preference" for the bigger risk. Thoughts?

Should we follow the tree? Should we return to the wagons? Surely not much time has passed?
