Topic: New Spores of Itanlok Q/A ~ 1
Subject: khord khord away!

Well hello everybody! I hope I'm not taking too many liberties in posting here but I've just finished the first draft of Odin Foxblade's character sheet and fired it off to Almerin. I'm awaiting approval now but I thought I'd sneak into this thread and say hello to all my fellow players. Speaking of, I'm not exactly sure who's still in this game and who's dropped off as I've not quite caught up on the Q/A yet, so hello to whoever you are! Basically however I just wanted to tell y'all that this khord's all saddled up and ready to go!

Well I wasn't trying to bump anyone off or anything! Thank you Ayrn, it's very kind of you... I hope you are not leaving simply because of my interest and I trust you aren't. I hope all goes well, things get less busy and we can game together some day. In the meantime, thanks again.

Okay, screw it all. I have to join this game... I just can't resist. I've been waiting for a level one campaign focussed heavily on the characters and their development with an in-depth story that is oriented more towards plot and events than battle &c... not to mention i'm running a game set in a world where magic has been outlawed as well and I just can't resist seeing how Tek does it.

If it's alright with you Tek, I would like to throw my hat into the ring, for a chance to join the game. All I have in mind is a druid right now, as I've not played one before but have always been intrigued. If you want an example of my writing ability you can check out Dying of the Light, there's only one post there but that is roughly how I would post for this game, though it would vary in length I won't post anything shorter than one page, arial, size ten font. I hope all of these things help give me a chance to join the game. I will begin work on a character and PM you more about what I need/what I'm thinking as I progress.

See you there,

Hey everybody. I know I'm in a couple games, so I apologize for my unexplained disappearing act. I will return to join my games and catch up on whatever I missed (looks like only Trek) but it will take me another week. I have had no internet. I hope this isn't a big deal.

See you guys soon

Meri! That's a secret! Now everyone knows... geeze...

I'll incorporate those things into both Bio and maybe a couple side notes. I think they would be important for Rowdy.

Oh alright. Good to know. I don't have any secrets but I still have an unfinished bio which I've neglected. I'll get down to that and send it in. I was just wondering if there would be some psych analysis that previous counsellors have done with the characters and if that information should be included?

I was wondering if we should all put up a short little summary of the information our counsellor would have? I really did like this one, the art totally blew me away. Especially when it blends into realism in the clouds at the top of the picture. Also, Steve totally makes this picture, so... so... bad ***!

-Dragonblood

ps. totally unrelated (and not a big deal) but your first post is still misspelled. I thought it was the whole thread until I realized the title of the first post didn't change when you edited the post name, which I realized when i clicked on reply, so the add a message message came up and it was spelt right. Thoroughly confused I went back and did my homework to realize that the title of the first post was misspelt while the thread name was proper. Umm... Ok... I guess I went on a bit of a rant there... just take a few deep breaths and back away slowly a few deep breaths and back away slowly...

Alright, got a little human interaction going, show everyone their Helmsman in action. I hope it's not too ridiculous, I think it suits the character... if it doesn't get him shot by our lovely Western State over on Deck 25.

Anyways, wanted to bring him in with a bang and give him some friends before all hell broke loose (or should I say, lose him some friends...). Hope its up to par and in line with everything else going on... I believe the time frame works. I also just wanted to clear up the reason why Clint's allowed to smoke.

Subject: A Little Gratitude

Stardate: 2368.04.10
USS Discovery, Lt. Royal's Quarters - 0730

Clint Royal pressed the red glow, eating away the last taste of tobacco before burning the filter, into the glass tray on his end table. The crumpled centimeter of cigarette joined the thicket of other crushed tubes tumbled and tossed, standing in circles and slanting over each other, the small soldiers and their makeshift graveyard.

As he let the funnels of smoke flow from his nose, Clint rose slowly, smiling with satisfaction. He stood solitarily, still sporting solely his underwear, tight briefs that had the american flag around both sides. Clint held his breath briefly, allowing the electricity of action course through him for his short, silent moments before the day.

The last succor of his cigarette spent itself out as Clint considered the luck that had landed him the illegal leisure of an occasional smoke in his quarters. The silent smoke alarm was born from luck of a liquid form, and it came in shots or on the rocks. That and Commander Kennedy’s engineering finesse. A well advised force field was all he’d needed to save him from a ringing bell and a reprimanding.

Cabin fever had caught Clint just after his cigarette situation had cleared itself up. Clint, crazy enough in top form, had shut down and turned silent when faced with the dreary display of the same shift day after day and the same stars night after night. Looking on it now, Clint had neglected every other crew member on the ship, responding only with the bare minimum ever required of him. It wasn’t a concern for the feelings of others but Clint didn’t like the idea of gaining a reputation for the quiet closed type and, more importantly, he didn’t like the idea of unfinished business.

Just after the force field had found itself in fine form, Clint had receded from view, cutting off all unnecessary communication and disregarding the gratitude he aught to have expressed. Clint didn't like being to blame for a broken friendship and he knew uncleared debts and undelivered thanks were sure path to a bitter relationship. Locked on to the damn Starbase, like umbilical chains, hadn't done much for Royal's attitude but, he thought, it was time he paid what he owed and admitted his mistake.

Commander Kennedy would just be heading off to work, perhaps he could slip in a quick thank you before she ended up wired up in Engineering. Besides, he himself had to find his way down to Main Bridge. As he dug through the clothes on the floor in search of his uniform, he tapped his combadge, "Royal to Commander Kennedy." His thick Texan accent let the words loll out slowly, like honey. Clint had intended on showing an honest display of gratitude but when the connection was made he couldn’t help but letting the jester within, which had been waiting to rear its ‘rowdy’ head, out for a stroll. He smiled broadly as his madness emerged and stretched its cramped bones, Clint was back.

"Well hello Miss Frisco Bay, how are you this morning?" Clint grinned to himself, knowing the murderous thoughts he was working up inside Commander Kennedy's mind.

Before she could squeeze a word in, his charming and charismatic voice, dancing between a Texan sweetness and a sharp firmness, bounded on, "Rowdy here, jus’ wanted to let you know how grateful I am to be enjoyin one’a my faithful American Spirits out on the USS. Disocovery. Me and my little soldiers would be estranged if it weren't for you Commander and I truly can't thank you enough for showing me how to sneak in a little secret time with those boys. Don't mean to be tying you up but I thought you might want a mental picture’a me and me little lads suckin’ face all night long. That said, if there's anythin you want in return just pass it down the grapevine sweetheart." Clint's playful smirk was spreading across his whole face and lit up every word. Before he terminated the discussion, Clint couldn’t help but add a serious addendum, the reason he had truly made contact, "I mean that Commander. I'm truly grateful and if there’s anythin’ I can do you for, you got an ace up your sleeve or, as I like to say, a rowdy little Texan on your main bridge." Royal did not forget about debts and if he owed somebody he would make sure he paid them back in full, perhaps with a little extra to keep smiles on everybody’s faces.

(OOC: assuming she responds and perhaps after a little more brief discussion - this can be edited in after Meri posts her reply, I hope Clint is alive by the end of page two )

Clint finished pulling on his uniform. He sighed and straightened himself out. He knew well enough that he could stretch up and expand himself just right so that it was a giant people saw, and not the 5'8" young adult. The Helmsman smiled, glancing over at his pack of cigarettes, "As much as I'd love to lock lips again boys, I'm off to work, hope you can hold down the fort in the meantime." He winked silently to the tiny carton, another one of his energetic grins spreading across his face. Now, off to the Main Bridge for more fun.

Topic: ... forth from the Garden... Q&A
Subject: specific

Briefly, and I'm not asking for it all right now, what I'd like is a little more of the character's thoughts. The game is more focussed on the development and relationships of characters. The actions that their personal situation produces is secondary and, though it moves the game forward, less pertinent to how the entire structure of both the story and the rule system work. We need to understand what the character is thinking and going through.

If and when you get the chance I wouldn't mind hearing a little more about what she thought about what has happened since she offered the orange (the last moment in your previous post). Lots happened in my update before he was carried away, I would love to follow her from Mathias rejecting her, through the town streets, into the town hall, and then hear what she does. Remember, for example, she scared Mathias, does she make any further attempt to connect with him or does she back off. Basically, because the characters are the centre of the game, we need to follow each one through the story.

Lastly, one of the reasons I started this campaign was for an opportunity to really encourage and improve my writing skills as well as those players who chose to join. I'm not asking for a novel every time but around half a page (at the least) shouldn't be hard to write, especially when so much happens. I understand you're really busy so I'm not trying to put all these expectations on you right now, but as the game continues, I must say, that it won't work unless we hear a little more about how Rowena thinks, feels and reacts to things. Thanks very much. I don't mean to pressure you because I know usually you fulfill all these things, and are having a hard time right now. I wouldn't ask for these things unless they were necessary to the game.

Again, thanks,

Hey Dragon Mistress, thanks for the post! I know it was hard to get it in and it's great that you found a little bit of time to do it, it must get busy between all the health business and trying to keep up in all your games. I'm really grateful that you made the time for this, I really appreciate it. I have to say, and I don't mean to hassle you, some of the details are a little unclear. I was just wondering if you would prefer to wait it out until you get more time and you're really settled so you can get a good post in. I know things are really hard for you right now and I just don't want to rush you when you're so busy. I just know that I need a little more information from you to update but I, by no means, want to press you for it right now. Basically, I'm asking if you would rather hold off until you have a little more time, we're still waiting on Fears as it is anyway.

Loving all this info. I'll do as Eol did and type up a quick list of some NPCs in the flight control department. In the meantime, I'll try to keep up with the rapid-fire posting! This is probably one of the most productive, most fun, most committed games I've ever been a part of! It seems like years since Olan opened up an "interest-check" in the recruitment threads, saying that he wasn't sure if he had the time but wanted to see if there was interest. Well, we've come a long way and *sniff, sniff* I'm proud of you all!

Anyways, I'm really enjoying playing, and shocked at the commitment everyone's made to both game and character, everyone is so well-developed, interesting and supportive.

I guess that kind of turned into a bit of an inspirational speech. Well, just a couple thoughts from one player to the others, over to you coach.

Alright, I was unsatisfied with my first post, perfectionist that I am, and though I'm sure I could still rewrite and rewrite it, I edited it and put up the new one. Not a lot of new information for those who read my old one, just thought I'd give a heads up. The action is the same but it gives a little more into Clint's mind and a physical description. Thanks everybody! And yes, there is still more coming, but I'll put that in a different post.

Topic: Star Trek: No Good Deed
Subject: private quarters

Stardate: 2368.04.10
USS Discovery, Lt. Royal’s Quarters - 0715

Clint Royal sat on the edge of his unkempt bed, feet amidst the swirl of his dresser's contents, which had tumbled from their neatness to the chaos that held sway over his floor. He reclined coolly over the scantily clad mattress, which sported the only blanket he ever slept with, snaking off the bed's end and diving into the pools of clothes that covered the floor. There was no sheet beneath the rough, woolly blanket that had been kicked off the bed days ago in the heat of the night.

The private quarters had passed the last eight hours under the same dull light of dimmed lamps and as it heralded morning it showed no change. The grappling arms of strewn t-shirts slid out across the floor and up and out and over and under the pant legs that lay hollow in the labyrinth of fabric. Socks and underwear poked their noses out of the oblivion fostered beneath the heaps of clean and dirty laundry indiscriminately mingling. Clint's crazy assortment of outfits were spread out over the ground, like a kaleidoscope of his own dizzying array of different appearances.

The dresser stood resolutely, still surviving the onslaught of exiled clothing, though now it was a barren chasm that contained nothing but the last memories of order and its gaping drawers. The top was congruently blank, looking up sullenly and uselessly. The closet door was closed and held in its darkness only shadows, and Clint’s prized possessions, hidden from the lamp light and cherished above everything else.

The stagnant light had witnessed more than the stillness of the room. It had witnessed, in its gloom, the unmoving form of Clint, statuesque in his posture, like a primitive symbol of the ancient gods who the archaic ancestors of humanity had worshipped ritually and piously. The shadowy icon had perched on his own mountain top, staring out in the murk and moving only gentle at different times.

Clint sat in only his loose khaki cargo pants that hung around his ankles gently lapping at his feet, Clint's short body seemed magnanimous, spread out as a deity. Only 5'8", he appeared now to extend on forever in his relaxed position, peering out. His body was rippled and knotted with lean muscle that chased itself up his arms around bone and vein and across his chest, filling his abdomen with a shocking display of physical fitness. It climbed up over his tight shoulders and towards his thin neck that gave way to the face of Clint Royal.

The man had a deceptive face. He was sharply handsome but the appearance could never be poignantly described with one piercing word or another brilliant sentence. In one instant he could have a serene demeanor that allowed his brown eyes to show an immense depth and interest: an introspective intrigue. However moments later his long nose can have a crooked terror to it that strikes out with his pointed jawline and high cheekbones, carrying the burning embers of two eyes dancing with a wrathful flame. In every spot on the spectrum, Clint's face is strikingly attractive and fascinating.

There is purpose now. The thoughts drifted imperceptibly behind the handsome face. Action approached and Clint could smell it, like a wolf stalking its prey, the animalistic yearning filled him. The Desire was entering him again, the need to move, to fight, to act. Now that they were preparing to leave, Clint’s muscles had stiffened with eagerness and his unreadable brown eyes had taken that hungry, wild look of excitement.

The stillness had grated Clint’s nerves, and now there was a great relief that was beginning to wash over him and this satisfaction brought with it bounds of energy. Clint had receded into his silent, unapproachable self over the last weeks and left those on the crew that knew him, wondering wear the madman they knew and loved had gone. Now his whole body buzzed with the Desire again.

Clint found no pleasure in spending idle time with crew mates. He was happy for the rest at first and the chance for true solitude, and the nights of drinks with a couple other members of the crew had been equally enjoyed. But there was nothing that could match the pleasure that he felt when he was active, when he had a purpose. Nothing else could satiate the Desire.

Clint never truly connected with people, it was a fact that was inalienable. Constantly present in his life for the good or for the bad, he knew he was bound to his singularness. He couldn’t deny his love for playing with people however, toying with them. Whether entertaining or terrifying them, he found great pleasure in performing. He felt a cunning power over them, and though he never meant it in a malicious way, he could not stand the idea of being vulnerable or intimate with someone.

Clint mused silently as he leaned over to his end table and plucked an American Spirit from the pack that had accompanied him through the night. He flicked the lighter quickly, a spark shining before the glow of flame rose up sharply. As the tobacco crackled, Clint breathed in slowly, the smoke filling his mouth and shooting down to his lungs before his lips unchained the tube and the white ghosts of smoke slid out in wild rivers that filled the air. He blew out a long cannon of smoke with a smile and leaned back a little farther. The day would be fun. If nothing else, the day would be fun.

OOC: just a short intro post - acquaint everyone with the character. There's more to come... trust me... there's more to come!

Totally random here but I had a thought and wanted to share it, I'm sure there are others with similar thoughts. I was just finishing up a post responding to the newest Loaded Dice comic and was looking at the site as a whole for a second and it struck me: What a cool website.

Honestly, it's such a great home here that many wayfaring role-players have found. A fantastic host for all sorts of different games. Stream-lined and well organized with quick links that can guide through its ins and outs rapidly. It doesn't have the same coldness of other forums I've stumbled across but a tight, caring community and a format that resembles the warmth I experience from all the members here.

I thought perhaps, and I'm sure other's would agree, our lovely staff deserve a mighty 'Thank-You', that will resound in the inns halls and, though this may not be mighty, and probably won't resound I'd say thank you. I've really enjoyed the gaming I've done here and everyone I've met through it so thank you to Olan particularly for the imagination and the effort (as well as all the time) that he's willing to put into such a great resource for all us drifters out on the role-playing road. Thank you Olan and thank you Inn Staff! And of course, the whole community is very kind and welcoming and they deserve a thank you as well!

Anyways, just a thought that I stumbled across and decided that maybe I could share because I don't always express my gratitude for this site and the fun it has given me. Thanks everybody.

Still enjoying the strips! This is the kind of role-playing I enjoy. Where the stories and interaction between characters are as interesting as the what's happening in the game. When tensions run high between people that's when the game becomes truly fun to play... especially as the DM, pitting people against each other!

Also, I like the comments at the bottom. As that just a bit of the sadistic DM peeking through? Of course we'd love the party to split up! They cover more ground when they're corpses, laid out on the floor... The classic horror movie giveaway: when the characters split up... someone dies!

Last couple things, I promise. I love the wizard's lines in the third panel: "That's because this is foolish." That and his appearance make me think of Gandalf all the way! Also, loving the chips in the first panel. No game would be complete without consumption of the closest, unhealthiest form of junk food.

Regarding Star Trek... well I don't have much to say. Still slaving away at Clint. Glad to see we have an actual game going!
