anybody want to make some knowledge checks to find out anything? But be specific, don't tell me 'I make a bardic knowledge check to see how I can get out of here', or 'I make a knowledge nature check to see if there is anything I can do'.

I could've updated a lot more than what I did. But perhaps there are possibilities that you haven't thought of yet. This is creative roleplaying, guys. Don't just go with the stats and 'special abilities' that are on your character sheets. There is so much more to roleplaying than casting spells and swinging a sword.

Most important: Talk. Use your wit. Anticipate.

Topic: The Chakran Portal - an Adventure in Audalis
Subject: more orcs, unusual captive

Goblin Encampment
The Chakran Mnts
18th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
8:02 pm

Though the group of orcs was mostly quiet and observant, but every now and then wisps of words and phrases could perceived inside the cage. They were words of destruction and beating, killing and overpowering. The harsh language of the orcs was one as wicked as the race itself; grunts and guttural noise mixed with the grammar of the Sylvari speech. As the orcs spoke, even the captives that did not know their tongue recognized the reoccurring use of the term ‘Bootskull’.

When the day broke, the orcs remained seated. Every now and then one of them left, to be replaced by another.

An hour after the dawn claimed the Chakran Mountains, two goblins in ragged clothes came to the cage, carrying four bowls of a potato mush with insects and a slimy sauce to bring the flavor down to a level of acceptance. It smelled unpleasant, and the taste was even more revolting than its substance and texture. With it came a bucket of water, which was splashed over the captives rather than given to them. Kurok could tell the rest that now was the only time during the day that they were given anything to drink.

It was at the splashing of the cool liquid, which seemed to come from the icy streams of the mountains, that the strange creature in their cage stirred for the first time. It was humanoid, but the head was longer and completely bald, save for a small patch of rough, short hair on top of the slightly tanned scalp. Simple bindings of cloth covered its privates, and assuming it was somewhat human, the companions could guess that it was a male. He opened thick eyelids and peered at his surroundings groggily, and let out a serious of weak chirps. Then he bunched himself up in his corner as good as he could with bound hands.

(OOC: I didn’t know whether or not you had freed him or not.

Also, let’s do a short HP count:
Thondrek: 4/61
Malius: 6/42
Geim: 7/64
Elessarae: 8/53
Draven: 3/42
Kurok: 11/91
Loda: 5/51

That’s after Elessarae healed some of you. You have to remember that now the orcs are watching, healing will not be easy to do without anybody noticing.)

Suddenly a rapid footfall comes from the stairs, and Almerin comes running into the common room. His eyes are wide and an expression of horror edges his face. Seeing the faces of the regulars, the newcomers and the pieces of furniture, he calms a bit, and takes a moment to catch his breath.

Taking a few steps into the room so that everybody can see him, he holds up his hand in a request for silence. He is still breathing heavily and pale as a ghost.

The barkeeper, a thin girl with dirty blonde hair and mousy features looked at Percy as she addressed her.

"I'm a bit woozy at the moment, but I know I came here for something. Do you know what it was? Did I tell you about it when I walked in?"

The girl started pouring a drink for another customer but stated:
"No, you didn't tell me. Perhaps you just came for another drink?"

"Drinks? Sure. But I could swear there's something else."

Percifeer paused, as if in deep thought. "Perhaps I came here to meet someone tonight. You know, that sounds like that's it."

She stumbled over her words. "I can almost remember a name. Foo...Moo...Blue....Stu...yeah, Stu...Stuart, that's his name! Do you know if there's a Virgin named Stuart in here tonight?"

The barmaid laughed at Percy's drunken misunderstanding of business; she bought the act completely.

"You mean Virgin Stuart? Just a second."
She went over to the celebrating man to fill his mug and the glasses of two people who had joined him. When she returned it was with a pointing finger aimed at the sorceress. But her face was not accusing, but wore an expression of girls-among-girls confidence.

"So what do you want from Virg?"

"What do I want?...Wait...What did I want from him? You know what, my friends know what it was." She reached into her bag again and pulled out bit more pocket-money. "Send him a pricey drink on me and invite him to my table. I'm gonna go ask what it was I wanted..." Percifeer trailed off and wobbled over to her table, falling on Miran as she attempted to sit down.

A moment later the barmaid was at their table too, with a steaming hot brew in a glass which she put on the table.
"You bring him his drink. He's sitting over there in the corner."

She pointed in the vague direction of the other end of the room. It was the shadiest part of the tavern, and it was hard to see through the smoke and darkness, but there were several figures sitting at tables, and none of them was alone. The maid smiled and returned to the bar without waiting for a reply.

It took her a good part of the night, but after a long time of struggling, wriggling and stretching of muscles, Elessarae got one hand out of the knot. Quietly she celebrated her freedom by undoing her other hand as well. Now she was ready to release the bonds of the other captives. The knots proved tough, well placed and tightened securely, but her two able hands had her companions loose before the first sunrays.

The sky was already colouring light blue, but in between the mountains, day was a long way from breaking. The goblins guarding the barred wagon had not noticed the careful escape of bonds that had been going on. The campfires in the distance had reduced to embers, and activity in the camp had slowed down. Goblins and orcs still walked from tent to tent, but they weren't in such a rush.

When all were freed, except for Kurok who was bonded in chains, a pair of orcs walked by and suddenly halted. The goblin guards eyed each other carefully but did not say or do anything.
The two orcs stared at the wagon and its prisoners, and then mumbled something under their breath. One of them walked on, but the other one sat down on the floor and put its chin in its hands, peering at the prisoners with a daring smile.
Several minutes went by when the other orc came back, and brought five more orcish warriors with him. They all sat down, and stared at the group.

I always played druids and clerics just like wizards, and I DMed them the same way. You decide on your spells in the morning, and you only have access to a limited amount (spells per day). You can't pray for more spells than your limit.

And the wood is not frustratingly thick.... but to say it is splintered and rotten is another thing. This cage seems to be in a better condition than you would expect from a bunch of goblins. Perhaps digging would work, if you use pieces of armor, you certainly will be able to dig away splinters. But it will take time, just like rope-gnawing (well, perhaps not that much ).

Topic: Greetings
Subject: Welcome

Welcome Markos,

The Red Dragon Inn is mostly a place for play-by-post dnd games, with the sporadic chat-game breaking the habit. So all you need is a good imagination and the will to type the actions your character makes. It's a perfect substitute for people who can't find gaming groups or who are interested in writing. But the main group of visitors are people who just enjoy roleplaying games, and the company of other players.

Audalis is the world that is created as a joined effort after the webmaster started its basic outlines. Though many people have contributed to the setting, it is not required to run games in Audalis. In fact, we host a lot more than DnD. There is Star Wars, Star Trek, Cyberpunk, Horror and a whole lot more to enjoy.

Hopefully this helped you a bit. If you need more info, never be afraid to ask.

too bad Brianna deleted her post... I liked it there

and I didn't know the cage thing was a question... hehe. Yes, metal bars on a wooden surface and wooden wheels and wooden roof.

And Jozan: why are there x2 and x3 behind some of your spells?

No problem Tann, hehe.

I sent Brianna a PM about it earlier today, figuring she would delete the question after replacing it... I guess not. But it doesn't matter. We should keep it here, since we're all one big family.

I can see why you would rule that... but I don't think I'll change that kind of thing. If you do that it makes the feats for that purpose kind of useless. Besides, you reduce the amount of challenges the party faces. I'm glad I had your hands bound otherwise you might've ran out of this goblin encampment already. Where's the fun in that?

Oh well.. it doesn't even matter that much in this situation. Casting will not come easy.

Suspicion rises, as Bards have a habit of misusing their talents, but is there any truth to the speculations? The players are hired by the Bard to prove his innocence, but can they convince the city council, upset merchants and themselves?

Goblin Encampment
The Chakran Mnts
17th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
10:27 pm

Their will to fight returned with their consciousness. Bound hands made it hard to get up, even though they were desperate to take in their surroundings. A short inspection told them they were all still alive and present, except for Alyssia and, as Loda found out, Gothard. They had been graced with two fellow captives, one of which strikingly resembled features as they were described on Chakrandrum. But could it be? Perhaps a far descendant? It was the least of their worries now.

They were bound, and bonds prevented hands from weaving magic. And without weapons, magic seemed the only way out of this cage. But as broken as their bodies felt, as groggy were their heads, and spells were not newly gracing their brains. What they had left were the few reserves they had not been able to wield in the fight against the hordes. A meager sum, but possibly helpful.

Whispering softly, Elessarae urged the others to gnaw on each others bonds. Those who obeyed had to bite through the horrid taste of the goblin ropes. It seemed they were drenched in blood and earwax, a sickening combination. But even the most persistent of them found that teeth would take a terribly long time to cut through the thick and well twisted rope. And the prisoner who had introduced himself as Kurok was bound in chains. It would take more than teeth to get him loose.

(OOC: In other words: it might work, but you’ll be gnawing for days maybe. If that’s what you want to do then that’s your decision. If others have a different plan, or maybe an addition to this, please post it. Also I would like to know what you’re planning on doing once your hands are free, so I can update a bit more at a time)

Brianna and Dragon Mistress... you guys have played dnd for years, right? I think DrM used to or still DMs a lot? Then you guys should know the answer to these kind of questions.

anyway... I'm not too good to type them or anything, so:

No, you can, and ANYbody can only cast spells that don't require a somatic component. Unless you have the Still spell feat and can use it without memorizing it beforehand.
I just thought of something: you guys don't have any new spells, but just the spells left that you had at the end of the battle, since you haven't had a good rest or time to pray or study. And I don't know how it works with duskblades, but I would imagine that they work like wizards.

Jozan: Gothard is not around. Maybe he's dead, though you don't feel that he is, or maybe he's somewhere else in the encampment. Or maybe he's in the wild, with Malius' ferrets.

as far as you can tell, they healed you with bandages. And yes, you are awake, otherwise my post would've included... 'but Malius was still unconscious'.

And a bard can't cast still spells as a class feature. You need the feat, or you need to free your hands to include the somatic components.

Sorry Guys,

I was in such a hurry this evening that I didn't get to put in the Q/A that we do have a new player. I didn't think Kuriosaki would post so soon. But it doesn't matter.

So yes, give a welcome to Kuriosaki! Hope he'll give us a nice addition and an extra pair of fists that we can use.
