I'm finally back in the game! Haven't been able to log in for quite a while, but now the void has been filled with a me-shaped presence.

Subject: now stay down!

As the captain had anticipated, the approaching bodies no longer inhabited a living soul. Whatever remained inside was driven simply by a desire to consume him and his team. And he was quite sure that though such driven vigor was to be applauded, he was not going to comply.

As the back of his rifle caved in the skull of his aggressor, he felt a twang of guilt. He had come to fight this war to punish the men who started it, not the unwilling victims of their expanding terror. But as the dead man he had bludgeoned to the dirt tried to stand up again, he let go of remorse and bashed his rifle into the man's brain until he stopped moving.

(OOC: He'll help the rest of the team out, if need be. He'll even let one of the zombies alive on the ground if somebody is in dire need of rescuing. When the fight is over he'll scan the surroundings and order Corban to find higher ground (assuming there is any).)

Subject: bashing heads

Something was off. It might have been the fact that the men approaching didn't seem to fit together at all, if might have been their strange, uncontrolled movement. It might just have been the fact that these people were on foot in the darkness. Their dark silhouettes against the moonlit sky felt like a scene from a horror motion picture, or something from the Terror Tales magazine Luke sometimes read. Or anyway, he had read before he had joined the army to fight for freedom. After that, reading had become a luxury that he didn't permit himself.

Corban was quick on the draw, asking permission to test if these were indeed zombies. There were two reasons Luke didn't want to engage so soon, and Doc voiced one of them. These men looked like something was terribly wrong with them, but they might, if there were still alive, have needful information.

"Get ready to engage them, if they are unwilling to cooperate!" he hissed at his team. "You can test your theory, Private McGuinness, but not with gunfire. We shouldn't give away our presence just yet if we can help it."

He reached for his Carbine, holding the back end forward to bash in any skull that needed bashing. Then he called out to the approaching men: "Hands in the air! If you comply, you will find us merciful"

Subject: It starts

Twelve hours on a plane is utter torture, Luke thought. If he didn't know what he was doing it for, he would've gone crazy long ago. It wasn't just the tight space, or the suddenly increased need for stretching his legs. It wasn't even Miller's dangerous habit of keeping a cigarette in his mouth on a plane oozing gasoline. The cap didn't say anything about it. Let the man have his own sort of sanctum. It was the flying over hostile territory that made his stomach cramp into a right rubber ball.
Down on the ground he would be able to have some form of control over what would happen if an enemy decided to target his team. Up in the air he would A: not see it coming, and B: not be able to do a damn thing before being engulfed by a sudden inferno. He had first-hand experience in suddenly leaving a plane during enemy fire and it was not something he wished to experience again. The feeling of not being able to save his men ate him up on the inside. The good thing about his entangled intestines was that at least he wouldn't have to use the lavatory during their journey.

He felt only relief when it was time to turn the chutes to good use. Though he had no love for parachutes, for they offered no complete control either, he knew that it was the last of the necessary steps to begin their mission.

Once on the ground he made certain his team had all landed safely and none of them was missing. He asked each of them personally if they were alright and if they were armed and ready.
Then, as Corban discovered the tracks and Miller inspected them, he called them all together for a final brief.

"Alright folks," he began. "This is it. If anyone needs to pee, now is the time. Judging from that cloud of smoke we already have trouble on our hands, and we aren't even there yet. There won't be any rest until we know what we're dealing with."

He looked at the sky for a moment, noting how the final remains of twilight were giving in to total darkness.

"We're going to follow these tracks for as long as they lead us towards that pile of smoke over there. Keep an eye out for lights and your ears pricked for anything that could indicate enemy movement. Brannigan, you're in the front with me, following the tracks. Miller in the back. Doc and Miss Thanatos keep your eyes to both sides. McGuinness, you'll be sixty feet behind us, keeping an overview of the situation. Any questions? No? Good, we move out."

I'm going to step away from continuation. I've liked playing Gamard, but time is always an issue. Good luck, and best of travels and adventures in the future!

Subject: healing

A sigh of relief escaped Gamard's throat when the last of the iron men fell. He felt as dented and bruised as the defeated constructs looked. They had been defeated not a moment too soon.

Leaning on his staff, which was still vibrant with Solanis' divine energy, he tapped into the spirit of the sunlord. A wave of warmth engulfed his body, spreading like the light of a rising sun. Where it touched him, his bruises shrank and his scraped skin healed. He felt refreshed, and thankful for the fact that he could call upon such a miraculous recovery, where the constructs they had just destroyed could only obey orders until they perished. A sudden desire to be free broke its way into his being. He felt, for the first time in his life, enclosed by the walls surrounding him, keeping him in this underground maze. A Khord should not feel such a claustrophobic sensation, but there it was. He wanted to feel the sun on his skin, to breathe fresh air and to sample the natural light and comfort of his God.

Looking around, he noted the contents of the glass cabinets. The one where the sword came from contained a small sphere of yellow light. Slowly he moved towards it, eyeing it curiously. He wondered if the could grab it and bring it with him. Knowing full well this was just a magical lightsource, it was the closest thing to a real sun and he suddenly coveted it with all his heart.

(OOC: Gamard will try to take the yellow light sphere. After that he will go and examine the silver ball.)

Subject: off we go

The captain was lost in thought for a moment when Colonel Darling pulled out the aerial photos of the site they were about to visit. As Miss Thanatos relayed her knowledge, he could see the ghosts of roman soldiers roam the buildings and find their way inside. One by one the legionnaires disappeared from his mind's eye, only to be replaced by echoing screams, the clash of iron on stone and whet thuds. Through the chaos of battle a voice, not unlike his own, yelled:

"Run! That's an order. Once you're safe, I'll blow the charges!"

It was swiftly cut off by another; Corporal Clements.
"No, you go. It's been an honour to serve with all of you."

A handfull of legionnaires reappeared from between the stone architectural remains on the photograph. Last was their Centurion, looking back as he ran. Then the building exploded in a black and white mix of fire and dust.

"Hey Cap! Never heard tell of any 'Coven' during my days with the British 'Rat Patrol' units! But there be plenty of Scurvy Cut Throats roaming the sands! They be ready to slit yer throat for yer canteen of water! Any strategy suggestions Cap?"

Luke Edintore shook his head. The picture was a still image, too gritty to even see any good details, let alone the ghosts of his guilt. This was not how it was going to be this time. This time, they would be prepared.

He looked at Corporal Miller and pointed at the folder of papers containing Howard Carter's notes.

"Any suggestions? Sure, Corporal. We take those and we take them to heart. If salt is what they can't bear, we better load up the dried pork. We better stock up on anything these creatures can't bear. And the ‘Coven' does sound like an assembly of German witches, which isn't so strange after what Miss Thanatos just explained about the magical powers of this staff of Mo-Pelar. Since I don't know if witches have any weaknesses at all, we suggest we make haste and make sure we get to that staff first."

He turned to the group as a whole.

"Alright team, we have one hour before we're expected at airfield 4. I will see all of you there in thirty minutes, fully prepared. Bring whatever you can to destroy or repel this ancient Egyptian vermin. I'm sure they're still in there somewhere. They always are. Bring ammo, bring light. Bring your guts and bravery. Let's go!"

I'll try to fill in any gaps I have in my sheet, somewhere this weekend. Also, do you need a new visual on the front page? The castle is in ruins, so we probably need something new up there. I'll see what I can do.

Are you picking up where we left that time, or is this a new thing entirely?

Gamard hit another solid blow and hoped by Solanis that his next would end its aggressive life. He had no hate for the thing, understanding that it was designed to protect the items at display. He knew that it wasn't acting out of anger but out of servitude, and he felt a little dismayed about having to destroy the thing. Why couldn't it have an off-button or something?

He noted the focus of the iron men now lay on Crow and Wembley and thought that if his next blow did not cancel the machination before him, he would instead focus his healing skills on whoever needed them most.

(OOC: one more attack and then healing (probably Crow) in the next round.)

Subject: golems? Give them the Precious!

The fight with these metal men proved to be a tough one. Those constructs seemed bent on acting rude, which they emphasized by breaking gas in a full room. Gamard's brain was racing while he fought, trying to figure out a smarter way to deal with these things. He found he could not. Sometimes a stone wouldn't form unless it was hammered into submission.

Then one of the creatures struck him hard in the chest. For a moment he lost his balance and breath. Standing up, his eyes gleamed with the fire of his God. At home, somebody would've told him he was already Seriously Wounded and should consider healing himself. But if he took the time now, his friends would be in danger even more. He could not allow it. Not when they were finally showing progress.

Raising his staff he took another swing at the iron man before him, throwing all his weight into the blow.

(OOC: Through all his heroics, Gamard will heal himself if he goes up one step on the ladder towards death, but hopefully that will take another few rounds).

Gamard took a glancing blow from one of the metal guards, but he was not ready to let himself be so easily diverted. He tried hitting the guard who had attacked him and then backed away from it.

"Dudley!" he called out. "Place the statue back in its place!"

For all he knew it would trigger something in the iron men, possibly a retreat.

Subject: Iron men? As long as they don't send the Hulk...

Gamard had watched events unfurl. He had not said anything, yet silently praised the two Cidals for keeping their fingers where they would cause no harm. It must not have been an easy feat for both of them.
Their restraint appeared to have been in vain, though, when the portals closed and four Iron Men appeared. Gamard had heard tales of the Iron Golem, a construct said to be invincible and stoically indifferent. He didn't dare hope these four Golem-kin would be any more inclined to be open to parley.

He grabbed his wooden staff and with its tip touched the golden orb on his headband. After a short prayer to Solanis, the weapon began to glow with a metallic shimmer. He was now ready to face whatever these creatures would try. Solanis was on his side. What did these constructs have?

(OOC: Casting Shillelagh on the staff. +1 bonus to attack and 2d4 dmg)

Subject: first short film

Hey Everybody,

I haven't been very active on the inn recently. Though I'm still lurking and checking updates and posting on Alacrity's game, I can't find the time to do much more at the moment. There are a lot of times when I regret not having more time to host games or play in them, but I have a lot of other (most of them cool) things on my plate.

I wanted to share one of them with you.

A few years back, some friends and I decided to pick up our ambitions and try and make a short film. With no background in film-making whatsoever we started a process and eventually created something we can be proud of. We finished this in 2012 but were unsure what to do with it. We know it's not perfect, but for a first attempt it's pretty nifty. Now we are continuing this process of getting better, of learning to work together better and to focus more on what we want with our short films, and the time has come to share this first product of our shared creativity.

I hope you'll enjoy it.

See it here!

With that he went through the East door.
